Fantastic experience: I read through the reviews and found some of them disturbing. My experience with the facility and staff was exceptional. I dislike medical facilities to the extreme but UW Health Rehabilitation Hospital staff and expertise was, shall I say enjoyable. I felt safe and as if I was the only patient there. My interaction with the staff was met with concern and an ability to explain to me in lay-mans terms what to expect and what happened to me. The PT and OT Staff took me through steps to orient me to my life. In the near future I will be walking again with little difference to how I was walking prior to the amputation of my left leg. Thank you UWHRH, and keep up with your concern of the clients that choose your facility. Leo M

Negative experience: The CEO is terrible and very underhanded!! They only go thru the motions and then throw you out!! I am not sure how the CEO and the person that is supposed to help the family's and provide the best care even sleep at night!! Very very bad and very very sad experience with these people and the organization!! I always thought the UW was GREAT but they sure have shown me and proved me wrong!! SMH!!! Let me clarify that the care by the cna s, nurses, ot and pt people were AWESOME but the downfall is the ADMINISTRATION!!

Fantastic experience: Very friendly caring and supportive staff. Help and. motivate you to work well to meet your rehabilitation goals. When I found out I needed to go to rehab after my 2nd back surgery, they had been so great for my first rehab stay, that I requested to go their again. I really trusted that they would do a fantastic job to help me get back on my feet again. I cannot recommend them enough. Awesome facility and staff! I would work there if I could!

Fantastic experience: I suffered a stroke and was admitted. The staff, therapists, nurses, CNAs, techs, housekeeping and doctors were wonderful. They are the next best thing to miracle workers. Much love and appreciation to the team at UW Rehab center. Hmm.. about that spa....

Positive experience: The care I have received at UW Rehab hospital has been very good. Caring nurses, NAs and therapy personnel have surounded me on all shifts. The most consistently inconsistent thing has been the food! One dish will be very good, the next ineatable. I have gotten thing I did not order and not gotten things I have. I truly appreciate the care I have gotten.

Fantastic experience: Outstanding team of employees. Excellent therapy teams and nursing staff. Comfortable recovery setting. Fully functional gym to aid in recovery.

Positive experience: Most of the staff were wonderful, thoughtful and helpful. I realize they have other patients but you don’t have to keep telling me. The bathroom garbage can has a cover with a foot pedal. That wasn’t helpful for someone in rehab. The paper towels were hard to rip out of the dispenser.

Fantastic experience: Excellent care- nurses, therapists, CNAs, and support staff! Shendal, Paige, Kaitlyn, and Keisha you were wonderful! Excellent night care throughout my stay and all the staff was super motivating during the day. Nice size room and huge window which was nice.

Negative experience: Nurses take half an hour to over an hour to help you to the bathroom!!!

Fantastic experience: I recieved outstanding care here. The nurses, Nurses aids, and of course the Occupational and Physical therapy. I continue to work on things from home but they got me here quickly

Fantastic experience: Everyone was extremely helpful and very friendly I felt really good about the time I spent there, and really enjoyed talking to the people that work there. The days seemed to pass quickly and I was feeling great about my situation even though it was a very difficult and painful time. It was a great situation and with my pain level it was exactly what I needed even though I didn't want to be there at all before I went there. The facility is very nice and the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly.

Negative experience: On the positive side: The therapists are very good at what they do to get you moving again. On the downside: The night staff is incompetent. They mess up stuff and blame the day shift. Overall, the nursing staff seems frazzled at times. The therapy room smells like b.o. and barf. The building seems like it's run on a tight budget where the showers are barely operable and the food comes from a second hand source (food pantry).

Negative experience: I would give zero stars if I could. My brother is a patient or a prisoner some would say. They have taken his phone away from him. He isn’t allowed to call anyone he wants and he wants to talk to his mom. We can’t even drop food off to him. It’s unreal. They are not advocating for my brother!

Negative experience: Won’t allow family or friends to visit patients or talk on the phone. 100% don’t recommend this facility. Can’t even send my brother a meal, gift or a card. Management will not talk to me or give me an explanation of why.

Negative experience: Protocol is prioritized over patient needs and care here. For example, I was admitted from Meriter Hospital on Saturday, July 13, at 12:30 p.m. after a two-day delay in admission because UW Rehab did not have staff sufficient to "legally admit me" until Saturday. This meant I paid $200 to be transferred instead of $105 had it happened on a weekday. When I arrived, I was told it was "protocol" to NOT let patients access the bathroom, even with a walker, until staff had seen how I moved. I argued with them for six hours without success. No alternative, such as a commode, bed pan, or even a catheter, was offerred, only that I needed to "hold it" until the following day, which is in itself contrary to patient hygiene, welfare, etc. This precipitated a psychiatric crisis for me, and I was taken to UW Hospital ER. At the ER, the psychiatric doctor told me, shaking his head in disbelief, "Of course they should let you go to the bathroom!" Because ER needed to do an urinalysis, they brought me a bedpan, and I finally got to pee about 7:30 p.m., SEVEN HOURS after my admission to UW Rehab. I acknowledge I have a complex medical history, including adverse effects to some prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and even some supplements. It is therefore CRITICAL that I be asked BEFORE any medication IF I want it. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN on the evening of 7/15/2024, when without being asked if I wanted it nor being told I was getting it, I was given, WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT, Melatonin, because it is UW Rehab's "protocol" to have Melatonin as a "standard PRN." The Melatonin plus Oxycodone plus Tylenol put me into a stupor, particularly scary for me as a survivor of sexual assault. When I discovered on 7/16/2024 that I had been given Melatonin without being asked if I wanted it or told I was being given it, I told the doctor: I should have been asked if I wanted Melatonin - I would have declined since I was sleeping just fine; been told it was being given to me; and UW Rehab should not have ANY "standard" PRN's when there are risks of possible substantial adverse effects to ANY, or even ALL, prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and supplements. He agreed with me on every point. BUT, will protocol be changed, or must we wait until an unnecessary and avoidable injury or fatality occurs? I have since my discharge 07/18/2024 been drinking lots and lots of water to clear my system of this. As of today, 07/24/2024, I continue to have side effects: muddled thinking; inability to think of the "right" word, and I am a published writer!; difficulty remembering my favorite, self-soothing songs. These symptoms are especially scary as they mirror those of Alzheimer's, which runs in my family. At my discharge a case manager told me she was sorry they did not meet my expectations. My sole expectation was that they "do no harm." By putting protocol over patients, they repeatedly did not meet this basic standard of "do no harm."

Negative experience: My first review was asked to be taken down.by a upper personnel at the Rehabilitation center. After going to my surgeon to check on my wound at a different facility. I found out that I'm alone in the experience of this place.. I need to inform this place really needs to work many things.. communication! Get organized! Need to be human like they are at home! Pride and attitudes needs to be cut off!! Only 2 physical therapist shine this place Marissa and Conner!! This place seems to manufactured medical field and patients need real care. No one should be waiting for pain meds for 2 1/2 hours and no one explains why.

Negative experience: If I could rate zero, I would. The worst care and let’s not start on communication issues. I hope anyone that is there has family to help them with showers, bring food and just plain everyday needs!

Fantastic experience: The people were wonderful caring and very helpful. I went there after being in the hospital for a little bit. I was very optimistic if I'd ever be able to walk again and they got me back on my feet and I can actually breathe deeper feel. More of life and I am so thankful for the whole staff. As I have a ways to go yet but they gave me the hope that the future will be brighter for me.

I want to especially thank Rose (occupational therapy) and Johnathon (physical therapy) for the kind and caring help provided to me during my stay. Fantastic experience: This facility has been Life changing. UW Madison Health Rehabilitation Hospital has some of the best physical therapists occupational therapists and respiratory therapists that we have ever worked with. The physical and occupational therapists in my opinion were world class, the knowledge and effort put into my healing by Maggie and Steph are unsurpassed in quality. I realize that it takes hard work and effort on my part to make sure that my healing goes well but it takes good mentorship and dedication on their part to get me going in the right direction. I will be forever indebted to the team of healthcare individuals at this facility for putting my quality of life back to where it needed to be. Fantastic experience: I had a great stay at UW Health Rehabilitation Hospital in February of 2022 on 2nd floor, everyone was so very kind and patient also very encouraging not one unkind team member in the whole team ! They were out of this world and the physical/occupational team were equally everything l said the 2nd floor team was, l've heard some horror stories of other's at other places, where they stopped pushing their help buttons because some of their NA's were so unkind l'm so great full and thankful that was nothing like my experience

Fantastic experience: Being in a hospital is not fun. However, having wonderful nursing, doctor, and therapy staff makes it a lot easier. The nursing staff at this acute rehab center were attentive, polite, and comfortable to talk to. The doctors saw me every single morning, which made me feel important. The rehab therapists helped me work through my needs in order to get back to fully functioning after six seizures. My Physical Therapist, Maggie worked with me to regain my strength and challenge me to work hard through my exercises. My Occupational Therapist, Carrin made sure I was comfortable and confident so that I was ready to return home by putting me through exercises that challenged my brain to think and work at the same time. Lastly, my Speech Therapist, Allie was the one who worked with me to fix my brain to put words back in my mouth. I will always be grateful for this rehab center, especially the people who practice here. I have never left a review for any place, let this be the first. If you ever have to come here, just know that every single person takes so much care and pride in what they do.

Fantastic experience: My son was admitted here in 2019, the care he received was genuine. The Doctors and Nurses were very knowledgeable, caring people. My son had a dislocated knee, he is now walking with a slight limp. But he able to live a normal life now! He has some pain here and there as he has returned to the work force! Fantastic experience: My dad was recently at this facility and I don't even know where to start. Everyone one his care team was absolutely amazing. His therapists truly cared about him and his recovery. The nursing staff and the nurses assistants were fabulous. His case manager did all the heavy lifting so to speak to make it easier on us. Fantastic experience: I was admitted to UW Health Rehabilitation Hospital early July. The staff was phenomenal. The physical therapist was such a pleasure to work with. She knew just when I needed an extra push. My OT was equally a joy to have on my team. I would definitely recommend this place if anyone needs any sort of rehab. Check them out. Maybe they can help you like they helped me.

Fantastic experience: I found the facility to be exceptional, and the staff even more so. I was impressed at the level of teamwork and communication that was happening between medicine, nursing, and physical and occupational therapy. Case management was superb.. My only real complaint was the presence of a highly effective street lamp outside of my window and a woefully inadequate shade inside of my window. Sleep wasn’t easy in a well-lit room! Maintenance tried a fix with a shower curtain rod that didn’t make it for 24 hours. Similarly, the toilet paper dispenser in my bathroom had been removed to accommodate a previous patient. Throughout the length of my stay I was assured that it would be replaced the next day. Never happened. Despite these idiosyncrasies of room 206, I will still highly recommend your facility as one of the most efficient, effective, and patient centered organizations I’ve ever had the pleasure to experience. Fantastic experience: Went here post craniotomy. Liz PT and Rachel OT were absolutely amazing and set me up for safety and continued success at home. They communicated clearly to what I should do when working with other PT/OTs so no time felt wasted. Dr. Deutsch was personable and the nurses and CNAs friendly and prompt. CEO Ken visited frequently and went out of his way to make it work for my 7 wk old baby to visit. Overall it was well worth the commitment to do inpatient rehab.

Fantastic experience: Everyone at this facility is amazing and friendly and helpful. I had a wonderful experience! The therapy is excellent and they are continuously looking for your improvement and keeping you safe. Covid makes things hard and having one person but everyone is very pleasant. Thank you!!

Fantastic experience: I enjoyed my 9 days in the Rehab Hospital. The staff were all wonderful, compassionate, kind and helpful. Their encoragement helped me in my recovery. This included, the doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, housekeeping staff, therapists and all others. Oh, and the food was delicious. I never had a meal that I didn't like. Thank you all for your help in my recovery. I would recommend this facility to any one who may need the extra help.

Fantastic experience: I stayed at UW rehab for about two weeks while recovering from my double lung transplant. I was scared when I first went because I had been warned the work would be arduous. They put me at ease and never pushed me beyond my limits though they definitely pushed me beyond my expectations of my ability. I am grateful for my time there and the people who provided me care.

Fantastic experience: Had a great week with caretakers after a bike accident. My room was comfy n food was GREaT. Worked daily with 4 therapists who completed my leg pain and head pain n almost took away my shoulder pain. What’s left for me to work on is the speech therapy n injury caused by my head concussion. Fantastic experience: I just finished 10 days at the UW Rehab Hospital. Very impressive program. Wonderful staff from top to bottom. Most patients come to the Rehab Hospital at the most vulnerable times of their lives. The overall vibe is extremely friendly, helpful, and compassionate. Therapists are experienced, skilled and passionate about helping their patients. A sincere THANK YOU to EVERYONE at the UW Rehab Hospital! The only negative to the Rehab Hospital, was that the windows seriously leaked! I was there in January, and the cold was seeping in through the Big, Beautiful, cheap, inefficient, leaky windows! Very surprising to me, but the staff was well aware. Probably an odd thing to mention in a review.... but this was actually no small matter. Very odd. Especially at a hospital. Whoever built that building should be held responsible.

Fantastic experience: My son suffered a severe spinal cord injury, I can never thank all of the people there that worked with him and our family to give him the best care possible. Fantastic experience: I've been absolutely amazed at the generous care this staff gives (not to mention the new facility in a beautiful lot). We've seen our share of facilities and this one is at the very top of our list. From the cleaning staff to the CNAs, RNs, OTs, PTs, speech therapy, to care management I've rarely seen such amazing care. I will always feel comfortable sending my loved ones here.
