Baptist Medical Center East: Reviews
Fantastic experience: The staff always takes good care of new mothers and very good guidance during labor and delivery
Hi Kaitlyn, we are honored to provide compassionate care always, and value your feedback. Thank you for sharing!
Fantastic experience: I had my baby girl at Baptist East last week. They gifted us with the best days of our life, there is no other way to put it. My husband and I will never forget the love and attention we received from all the personnel at Baptist East, not just doctor and nurses, but everyone. We feel so blessed for having had that experience. By the way, the food was great!
Hi Valentina, we are delighted to hear this feedback and thank you for sharing with us. It is our honor to provide compassionate care always!
Negative experience: On Wednesday October 30th my wife and I went to a female clinic for an official pregnancy test. During the ultrasound sound there was no child found. From that point we decided to go to Baptist east emergency room to insure the my wife was not having an ectopic pregnancy. After a vaginal and regular ultra sounds medical officials decided to take my wife into emergency surgery for an ectopic pregnancy. At this point we are both terrified and we’re praying that everything turns out fine. After the surgery the surgeon Dr. Paula Sullivan told me that she was not having an ectopic pregnancy and claimed to have cleaned adhesions. This was the first and last time I’ve spoken to dr Sullivan and my wife hasn’t spoken to her at all. The next day I called to schedule an appointment with dr. Sullivan we were pushed off to mid November after she specifically stated for us to meet her within the next week. At this point my wife was having gas pains and nausea but she’s slowly recovering. On Sunday November 10th I walked into my home to my wife being passed out on the floor before I picked her up and rushed her to the nearest hospital which was Baptist south. From there my wife was barely breathing and couldn’t walk on her own at all without her heart rate skyrocketing into the mid to high hundreds. We even had to sit in the waiting room while she was fainting and having trouble breathing. Once she got to the emergency room we waited about another hour before speaking with a medical resident. During this time a doctor was also present and he told the confused resident “this is your patient”. Me and my wife were confused the entire time and didn’t receive any answers at all. For the next two days my wife was in the emergency room struggling. She couldn’t move at all, was only provided crackers, and every time I came up there she wouldn’t get a response from a nurse until 10 minutes at a time. It was so bad to the point where I had to change her and help her use the restroom. There was on instance where her heart rate got up to 180 and I had to go out and find the nurses myself. When she was admitted into her room things started to get better up until after a week of receiving no answers. My wife’s room was always a mess when I visited, she had no help with hygiene, and she was crying because she had no idea what was going on. While all of this is taking place my wife is still pregnant and the baby has been growing. This hospital was the worst experience ever!!!!

Fantastic experience: Spent 4 days here with my partner due to COPD Exasperation. Everyone was very attentive, professional and kind. Thank you for the great care you gave my Partner.
Hi Faith, we are honored to provide compassionate care always, and value your feedback. Thank you for sharing!
Negative experience: I was referred to the ER by the Doctor at Urgent care in Wetumpka. I went in with severe abdominal pain. Went in at 1p.m didn't get to the back until 6 p.m The Traiage Nurse was very rude. I was told they had a bed ready for me after sitting for 5 hours. Hour went by no bed. I proceeded to ask the front desk what was taking so long At this point I'm crying in pain. After six hours the nurse called my name very rude and wasn't even concerned about my pain. I can say Nuse Jocline was nice to me But overall this was the worst experience ever .How you allow someone to sit in your Waiting area for six hours in abdominal pain. Come to find out I had Gallstones in My Gallbladder. I do recommend more friendly and concern nurses. I have to give my experience a negative zero.Want be back

Negative experience: terrible experience for a child that is already terrified and they tie her up in a blanket. also they never checked her iv and now she has scabs where the iv was pinching her skin the whole time . so glad we got transferred to children’s. could not voice your opinion at this hospital either. I work in the medical field myself and this is not how i would want to be treated or treat anyone else. amazing how after we stated she needed to be off fluids they wouldn’t but when we get to children’s they immediately take her off fluids. baptist east fluid overloaded her .

Fantastic experience: OB Emergency Department and Labor & Delivery staff, RNs down to the patient techs were professional, kind, caring and very tentative! My stay was a good experience.
Hi Lateal, thank you for the excellent feedback. We are honored to provide compassionate care to the patients of Central Alabama.
Negative experience: Baptist East is so sorry I don’t know if I’m having a stroke but my pressure was high when they checked it and I can’t feel my left arm/shoulder and they got me sitting in the lobby with 50 people and nobody doing nothing this is by far the worse hospital ever.
Hi Aria, thank you for reaching out. We would value the opportunity to connect further with you at your convenience. If you are comfortable doing so, please call (334) 747-8558 and ask to speak with our Patient Advocate.
Fantastic experience: Everyone from my nurse getting me ready for surgery to the 3rd floor nurses and techs, were absolutely wonderful. They took great care of me and seemed to love their jobs. I especially love my daytime nurse Kayla. She was such a sweet caring person. Also most hospital food is yuck but Baptist East has really good food. Thank you all for taking care of me!
Hi Jackie, we are honored to provide exceptional healthcare to the people of Central Alabama, and we appreciate your 5-star review!
Negative experience: I would give this GHETTO HOSPITAL a negative 5 if possible. Not to disclose my medical conditions. I went there in a lot of pain and discomfort. Being from Florida I was just passing through for work purposes. Unfortunately had to go there because it was the nearest hospital for me. I was called back after waiting about half an hour. I told the RN about my condition and they ran a few tests. I told them that there were a few things they couldn't do because they would end up just hurting me and making it worse. Go and behold they go ahead and do what I said not to because oh we will be easy and help with the pain. WRONG, then they were going to admit me I stayed in the ER 11 hours and was still waiting on a room. Also the worst part is whenever the RN would come in with her student to do certain procedures they would be laughing at you making you feel belittled and helpless. Long story short they never got me a room and the staff there very unprofessional and hospital was really dirty and old school equipment. If I ever drove thru there again and would end up in a hospital there i would rather take my chances than being tortured and laughed at. They made me feel like I didn't matter as a patient.

Fantastic experience: Baptist east is by far the best hospital in this area. Other hospitals just guessed at what was going on with me and guessed wrong. My situation had gotten so bad that when I made it to baptist east they had to keep me there 5 days. They took great care of me and I'll never forget it! If you or your loved one is having medical problems dont waste your time or risk your health with the other hospitals because they are a joke. Do it right the first time and just go on to baptist east. You might have to wait longer in the er but its worth it. I thought about leaving because it was taking so long (they were super busy) but I thought maybe thats a good sign that they are thorough and I'm so glad I stayed. I could have gotten worse and possibly died but baptist health took care of me! I hope God continues to bless that hospital and everyone that works there!
Fantastic experience: I was at the ER for about 7 hours on 2/27. I was so impressed with my care. My nurse, Amanda, was amazing and deserves recognition for her concern for her patients. Even though the ER was very busy, she was extremely attentive to my needs. I went in very nauseated, and within minutes I was getting something for that. She also checked on me frequently because she knew I really did not feel well and was in a lot of pain. She explained all of the tests that they had to run, and made sure I understood what was going on. I am a very hard person to start and IV in, but she got it on the first try and I honestly felt no pain. I can go on and on about her care, but the one thing that really impressed me as going above and beyond....she knew my husband had to leave work to take me to the ER. She also knew this was a concern. When she brought my check-out papers, she brought him a work excuse. We did not even have to ask. I wish I could name everyone who cared for me, but I can't remember all of their names. The x-ray technician, the CT scan technician, the lab technician, the Nurse Practitioner, and even the triage nurses were all extremely nice, and gentle. Another nurse that came by to check on me was Allie. She was also very, very sweet and took care of my needs. I was also very impressed when the pharmacist came to see me to make sure he was giving me the proper medicine. I have never had that happen before. If I could give you all a grade for this visit, I would definitely give you an A+. Thank you for taking such good care of me. God bless you all!!
Fantastic experience: I had my first experience with the outpatient services on November 19,2015 which was a great experience . The staff was great. My second experience was August 25, 2023 and again the staff was great. All my needs were met and I had great surgical team, pre-op nurse was great, and I wish I knew her name but my post op nurse was the best. I will be recommending to my family and friends.
Fantastic experience: If I could give the hospital 10 stars I would. I am from South Carolina and was 35weeks and 6 days pregnant when my water broke in Alabama. Why was I traveling at this time because I had court. Anyways. Back at home I was being seen by a prestige hospital but I can guarantee you that the service I received at this hospital would have not compared to the hospital back at home. From the delivery Doctor to the nurses that cared for my baby in the NICU to housekeeping staff, my experience was beyond my expectations. The nurses were super nice, they made me feel very welcomed, they even helped me find a hotel at an affordable price because my baby was in the NICU. I seriously can not be more blessed for giving birth at Baptist Medical Center.
Fantastic experience: Delivered my son on 8/9/23 and couldn’t have asked for a better Labor and Delivery team! Nurse Amy was accompanied by a student, named Jill I believe, both nurses were amazing! They listened to every concern, need, you name it! I had a VBAC and they made sure my experience was fantastic! I wouldn’t choose to deliver anywhere else. Postpartum team could’ve used a few better nurses but nurse Jessica and Harley were great! They had no problem helping me in and out the bathroom, checking on me regularly, or other personal needs. It was two younger girls and one older lady with twists that were less than great but overall, the experience was enjoyable.
Fantastic experience: Not a big fan of hospitals...however, 99% of the staff were polite and compassionate. The nurses were absolutely angels!
Fantastic experience: Best hospital care! Had our first baby here. Wonderful staff, super clean facilities and overall just a phenomenal experience. Highly, highly recommend the OB Triage at this hospital if you are in search of a place to deliver!
Fantastic experience: Our visit to the Emergency room yesterday for a severe allergic reaction went very well considering how busy it was. From the administrative staff to the doctor and nurses, everyone was exceptionally helpful and caring! This was the worst allergic reaction my husband has ever had so we are very grateful and thankful for the fast, efficient and caring reaction we got here!
Fantastic experience: When your family has been military and you’ve been to many many medical institutions you get to see how people are treated. Never ever have we experienced such great service and genuine smiles as we did today when we brought my grandson to have surgery with Dr. George Liles! The staff when you walked in greeted us and directed us the entire time. It felt like a big warm hug. Such a pleasant experience that in my 47 yrs I have never personally had. Dr Liles is amazing and a very kind heart. Thank you thank you My faith in hospitals has been restored. Renee in admitting part 1 with all the beautiful angels on her desk Thank you ☺️
Fantastic experience: This is not just an hospital, it is home away from home. My wife had a baby here, the treatment and hospitality we received were top notch, from the nursing personnels to the kitchen personnels… they were all wonderful people, I will choose this hospital over again. God bless Baptist Medical Center East
Fantastic experience: had my daughter here on 12/2/2022 BEST experience! the labor and delivery nurses were angels! every single one especially nurse Taylor ❤️ . definitely plan on having my second baby here one day .
Fantastic experience: Every time I come here they treat me so good. I couldn't ask for a better staff of nurses and all the supporting teams they have. I'll never use any place except Baptist east
Fantastic experience: I had an emergency visit to the ER for a painful abscess. I was give Morphin and I had a bad reaction. The ER doctor on call that night wanted to give me Narcan which was unnecessary and my wonderful nurse Chris advocated for me when I couldn't. I could hair him in the hallway telling the doctor that giving me the unnecessary medication would be a bad outcome. Not only did this wonderful man advocate for me he stayed by my side and made sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed... YOU'RE AMAZING CHRIS!!!!
Fantastic experience: I didn't really experience the chaotic part of the hospital - the ER thankfully but I was in maternity section which was rather lovely. I've a fear from childhood of hospitals due to poor treatment I received. For my entire pregnancy I felt certain to avoid the hospital at all costs due to past trauma. In the end I went in for an emergency cesarean and at first I wasn't happy that it was a medical intervention/not natural but the staff was amazing. My experience was very good and I don't regret coming here at all. I am thankful for the doctors, nurses & staff with their gentle treatment. Nurse Ashley on the night shift was especially wonderful.
Fantastic experience: Amazing, loving staff! I enjoyed my stay in labor & delivery and postpartum! Made my birthing experience the easiest it could have been<3
Fantastic experience: I had such a great experience with my surgery. From admitting to the procedure, my nurse was awesome and the lactation consultant was amazing!
Fantastic experience: Baptist medical was first rate when my daughter was there for the arrival of our grandson. Nurses and staff great
Positive experience: Three stars overall because out of all my nurses in Labor & Delivery/Postpartum. Sarah, Amanda, & Malissa were the most amazing, attentive, & caring nurses I had & they, however deserve 5 stars. I cannot thank them enough!! Keep doing what you’re doing ladies.. ????????
Fantastic experience: I was in the ER yesterday afternoon with severe pain in my abdomen. Every doctor, nurse, patient care tech, phlebotomist, and X-ray tech were beyond caring, kind and professional. I was not feeling my best but everyone made it so much better. Not to mention being very thorough
Fantastic experience: My wife just gave birth to our first child. From the moment we entered the hospital to when we left we had an amazing experience! The LD staff were awesome! They kept us informed of what was going on and always asked us if we needed anything. The peds team went above and beyond for us as well as the post partum staff! I can see why this hospital has won awards. I have worked in several hospitals in the US and this hospital exceeded my expectations!
Fantastic experience: We saw Elizabeth Henderson in the ER. She was the NP that took care of my husband and she was wonderful. We got our first real idea of what has been causing my husband's pain and a referral for the next step. She was blunt but not rude or condescending and answered my panicked questions with consideration and honesty
Fantastic experience: Highly highly love Dr Joseph Manzari. He’s the best doctor I think I’ve ever seen. My daughter had to be seen and he was so kind and respectful. He asked before he examined her ears and body and just was so genuinely sincere about wanting to get her well. If he was a family doctor I’d definitely be seeing him regularly. Especially if he was a pediatrician. Took me by surprise how kind and patient he was.
Fantastic experience: The Labor & Delivery nurse Amanda, Dr. Gentry, and my post pardon nurses were the most amazing staff and my absolute best delivery experience of 4 pregnancies! My expectations were exceeded!!!
Fantastic experience: I just returned home from Baptist East after my Covid adventure. Though no visit to the hospital is all that pleasant, the nurses I encountered did everything possible to make me as comfortable as possible. Starting with Brooke in the emergency room, she did everything she could for me. She even met my wife in the lobby to collect the personal stuff I needed to be admitted. Parker, Savanah, and and Angelica helped me once I was admitted and also did everything possible to make me comfortable . And then there was David. It was like having your best friend taking care of you. He went out of his way to help me with anything I needed and although I could tell he was tired, did it all with a great attitude. God bless these hard working people that can make a bad experience a lot better than you would ever expect.
Fantastic experience: All of the staff were very nice and friendly. I especially loved the lactation specialist. She resolves helped me with learning to breast feed.
Fantastic experience: The nursing staff for the mom and baby were exceptional! They definitely have the patients well being in mind. Great hospital!!
Fantastic experience: My scheduled Induction went great from the time I got there. I had to end up having an emergency c-section and even then all the nurses were still awesome and well coordinated along with my doctor Dr.Lawhon.
Fantastic experience: My experience started in the ER, went to a closed door room, then admitted to a patient room. I stayed 3 nights and saw a lot of people from different departments. Absolutely everyone was amazing. What was a horrible and rough time for me was made exponentially better with how well cared for I was by all staff I encountered. I tried to make sure I told everyone I came in contact with that I'm pregnant so I wouldn't be given anything I shouldn't have but everyone knew when I met them which just shows how great the communication between departments is. Each new incoming shift was up to date with what the last shift left off on. I felt very safe and like me and my baby were in the best care possible.
Fantastic experience: Love this hospital. Staff always so nice and helpful. I had all 3 of my kids here. Great staff and hospital.
Fantastic experience: I was seen in ER 1/9/2022 the nursing staff and administrators were nice and very professional. Thank you,for taking care of me.
Fantastic experience: Second time delivering here and the staff never disappoints. Jill the lactation specialist, stood out to me the most. She was very friendly, helpful, and caring! I enjoyed my 2 day stay.
Fantastic experience: I have never posted a review but I wanted to highlight my own personal experience at Baptist East!! I had 2 outstanding nurses that I would like to thank: Michelle Cucura & Hilda Galloway!!! Both were experienced and knowledgeable about my condition and gave above average care and attention!!! They made me feel comfortable and well taken care of!! Other medical facilities in this area should absolutely take note of these two ladies!!! They would make excellent trainers for new nurses! Their bedside manner and care was the best!! Thank you so much!!!
Fantastic experience: I came into the ER today around 4 or 5ish I was highly satisfied and Felt good All the nurses cared for me. KUDOS TO NURSE MELONIE AND NURSE BRITTANY ON 2ND SHIFT AND NURSE BRANDY ON 3RD SHIFT...THANK U ALL SOOOO MUCH EVEN THE AWESOME DOCTOR PAULA SHELTON...THESE LADIES WENT ABOVE N BEYOND TO ENSURE MY HEALTH N CARE WAS A1!!! EVEN THE TRAVELING PHLEBOTOMIST AND X RAY TECH WAS GREAT!!@ THANK U LADIES FOR YOUR SERVICE DURING THIS PANDEMIC N GETTIN ME BACK ON MY FEET!!! BAPTIST EAST ER ROCKS!!❤
Fantastic experience: Everyone was very professional and excellent at their jobs. Awesome hospital and staff! Don’t believe those 1 star reviews.
Fantastic experience: My mother as sent here for a specific test that was not available locally. I had never been here so the negative reviews were concerning. I have to say that the doctors, nurses, aids and everyone else assigned to her care were absolutely wonderful. My mother suffers from Alzheimer’s and everyone she encountered treated her with patience and respect. It was a very stressful time but everyone at Baptist East did all they could to help my mother and support me as her primary caregiver. You will be in good hands here. I’m sure the bad reviews are valid, there are bad experiences everywhere. But based on my experience, I would recommend this hospital and the staff %100.
Fantastic experience: I have had excellent care when i can for my scheduled C-section. all the nurses in the OB were incredible especially the CRNA Beverly, she really helped calm me down and reassured me everything will be ok.The nurse in postpartum were very helpful and patient.I love their labor and delivery unit they have such an excellent staff.
Fantastic experience: I had the best experience at labor and delivery and postpartum part of Baptist East! Everyone was amazing!! All my family was Impressed with how well staff did and quality of ca
Fantastic experience: I went in there flipping out because my contractions were so bad and the nurses were so good to me trying to calm me down. Once I had my little girl and went to postpartum they took such great care of me for my two day stay. Everyone was wonderful and if I have another Im going to deliver there again I highly recommend Baptist east for every pregnant women.
Fantastic experience: I would like to thank and express what a wonderful experience I had at Baptist East on Tuesday, January 28th. I had surgery that morning and from the time I walked through the out patient doors everyone was Surperb and I thank you. You all were warm and caring. A special thanks to the nurse Mista that cared for me the night after surgery you were wonderful an asset to your profession. My Anesthesiologist great job with the pain thank you. To my Dr. Dent Williams you are God sent thank you. To the Nurse Manager thanks for coming by and too my Nurse on discharge day thank you so much God Bless you. The techs that fed me and took my vitals thank you. Baptist East I will always be greatful to you. Thanks
Fantastic experience: Just spent 3 days on second floor with my 5 year old. And I am so impressed with the nurses. Day and night shift were both amazing. Sweet, kind, understanding, professional, and patient. My son has a sensory processing disorder and they were just awesome with him. One nurse even gave him a huge Christmas teddy bear for being "so brave". Thank you to all the nurses on Kids Korner for!!!
Fantastic experience: The Labor and Delivery/ Pospartum Staff we’re GOD SENT. They were absolutely amazing and on point. They made sure My sister was comfortable and well taken care of. They were confident in every action they took and they made her feel safe and that her baby was in the best hands. They checked on her every second and showed just as much care for baby and mother as family would. Absolutely outstanding staff, round of applause to all of the wonderful doctors and nurses that made this once and a life time experience unforgettable and beautiful. To Lauren, Charica, Brantley, Melinda, Erin, Michelle, Christina (anesthesiologists), Brenda, Tammy, Jessica and anyone I may have left out, thank you from the bottom of my heart, you all were amazing!
Fantastic experience: My son just had oral surgery here and he received great care. All of the staff were extremely kind. I'm very pleased with our experience at babtist medical center east (Outpatient services) they even sent my a son a very thoughtful card with his care team's signatures.
Fantastic experience: I have delivered several children at this hospital and have never had a bad experience. This delivery was the most difficult, as well as recovery. The staff from intake all the way through to the nurses and patient techs I encountered in recovery were absolutely phenomenal. I was there for 5 days as opposed to 3 and I never felt as if I was a burden taking up a room. I don’t know how this hospital has consistently caring staff throughout all areas, including housekeeping and nutrition. I can’t speak for everyone’s experience but I would recommend this hospital to everyone delivering children.
Fantastic experience: The ER service is like Chick fil A drive through fast thorough and efficient. Always here less than 4 hours always. Always good quality practitioners and respiratory therapist.
Fantastic experience: I had my daughter at this hospital. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The NICU team was great and understanding. They made my time there great.
Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful experience here for the birth of my baby! They had someone for everything! All smiles, very helpful, and the food was pretty good.Around the clock care without attitudes and positive vibes. Thanks for a great first visit!
Fantastic experience: I've been here a couple of times, 2 of those I delivered my two beautiful children I loved the staff they were kind and generous. Other times we been to the emergency department also very kind staff. Another occasion we were in the kids koner amazing just amazing staff very very generous and kind all of them
Fantastic experience: My experience with this hospital has been nothing but pleasant. The staff is so incredibly nice, supportive, and helpful. My doctor was amazing. I came from a different hospital to this one and it was like night and day. Very, very positive experience at Babtist Medical Center East. I do not have one bad thing to day about this facility.
Fantastic experience: This hospital has been nothing short of incredible. My wife was discharged from another hospital that we had an awful experience with. This hospital was polar opposite. Incredible staff, amazing doctors. Everyone has been so kind and compassionate for us. I would recommend this hospital to anyone.
Fantastic experience: I recently had to have an unpleasant scheduled exam done for my health at the Endoscopy Center. With that being said, one can say everything will be viewed with details over the stress of the process to come. I would like to take a moment and say "Thank You!" Especially to some of the staff who took part in my process, Kelly, Kelly, Claire and Carmon. I know there are more, but I was conscious when I met these wonderful people. I am not saying everyone should have this process done, but in the event where time dictates otherwise, you will at least have some great people who will take the time to take care of you as best as possible. Thank you again:)
Fantastic experience: I've had two grandsons born here... and I got the best care a person could ask for... And the baby came down with type 1 diabetes a they treated us phenomenal... We were respected treated with kind words and kind hearts
