Riverside Regional Medical Center: Reviews
Negative experience: I traveled from Williamsburg seeking emergency relief for migraines. My OB in Williamsburg advised me to go to this facility instead of the local ER, which I followed. After a lengthy three-hour triage process, I received Benadryl and Compazine, which provided significant relief. Upon my discharge this morning, the nurse who assisted me—whose name I believe was Kayla—confirmed that I would be prescribed Compazine to manage my symptoms until I deliver my baby. I am currently 39 weeks and 5 days pregnant, experiencing migraines, and fortunately, my condition does not appear to be preeclampsia, with the baby stable at this point. However, when I checked the CVS app for my new prescription, it was not listed. I encountered difficulties getting my call connected between labor and delivery and the on-call number. This experience has led me to feel that the level of service here could be improved. If I had the option to choose a different hospital, I would consider it; however, as a veteran, this facility is within my financial means. Unfortunately, I have found their approach to inducing labor and prescribing medications that can trigger migraines toward the end of pregnancy concerning. Additionally, there seems to be a lack of transparency regarding potential side effects or information related to the medications provided, and there is little clarity on various issues. Please pray for me as I do have to come back to delivery my second child here. This time around I have hired a doula to help with the communication and pushy fear inducing staff.

Negative experience: My husband was transported by paramedics because his feet were swollen to almost twice their normal size and his legs had dents from the elastic on his pant legs. Because he was also quite intoxicated at the time, that's all they focused on. I signed up for their text updates and was waiting for the text that said to come and get him, as he was being discharged. Never got the text. Instead, our doorbell rang after midnight with the medical transport team bringing him home. So, not only was the presenting problem not addressed but now I'm going to have another bill for the transport. All because no one could be bothered to pick up the damned phone. I could not be more disappointed and disgusted with the lack of service and patient care. Shame on you.

Negative experience: Prepare to play telephone and be jumped from line to line. One nurse had the absolute gall to just be like, "I don't know what that is." OK?! How about getting patients in touch with someone who does??? Also, how in the hell are NURSES not versed in medical terminology that's explicitly stated on their website that they offer care for?

Negative experience: The first time I was here everything was smooth with no problems. The second time was quite a different story. There is no communication amongst the staff, one doctor thought I was a completely different patient, and being told different things from different employees. I would NOT recommend this facility to anyone for health care.

Fantastic experience: I went to the ER over the weekend and was admitted to the labor in delivery floor because I am 25 weeks pregnant. Everybody there from the ER to the L&D floor are great! I want to personally thank those nurses. I was in so much pain and they really kept me comfortable and relaxed while trying to figure out what was wrong. Daphney and Emily are the two that I remember. I don’t remember the other two nurses that I had but they were equally great! When I had my procedure the nurse in the OR was great! Her name was Michelle! I’ve been so afraid to have an epidural when I have the baby and for my procedure they had to do a spinal injection since I couldn’t be put to sleep and she kept me so calm and talked to me through the whole thing. I couldn’t have done it without her! Thank you to everyone that was a part of my visit! The doctors are also great! Dr Lunsford in L&D and Dr prillaman in urology are amazing!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Christina Cartwright in the emergency department is a wonderful doctor. She takes time to talk to you about your problem. Always smiling

Negative experience: My nurse doesn't seem to care that I can't sleep. Or that I'm hot in my room. I need something to calm me down and she doesn't seem to give a shit. This is a terrible experience

Fantastic experience: Dr.Leesch Dr. Salvant saved my life when I had a ruptured brain aneurysm and stroke. Riverside is amazing!

Fantastic experience: I want to publicly thank the nurses and staff that work on the fourth floor. My father was under their watch for literally a month, and received exceptional care. A shout out to Brenda, Sarah, and Michael. All of you and your coworkers have my utmost, heart felt gratitude.

Fantastic experience: This hospital has saved my life more than one time. Every single person that works here is exceptional. Dietary came into my room and really worked with me on my menu and the food was superb. Every nurse, physician, ancillary staff, and every single person in this hospital are exceptional.

Fantastic experience: My visit last Sunday was absolutely awesome. Fron the time I checked and upon my release. The Doctor's on duty and the nurse were professional, and I truly felt cared for. Thanks again, Ms Williams

Fantastic experience: A week ago today, my wife and I visited a friend who was in MICU. It was decided between my wife and I that we would go to the Bistro before leaving the hospital. While in the Bistro, my wife suggested that she take the Valet ticket, so we wouldn't have to wait long to get our vehicle. As I am walking in front of check-in, I see our vehicle drive up to the Valet station. I was now 3 or 4 steps behind my wife as she started through the maze of people standing in front of the entrance and Valet area. Like statues, the inconsiderate people stand their ground as my wife is trying to get to our vehicle. As she tries to maneuver through, she unfortunately tripped on the base of the orange cone sitting in the way of entering/exiting visitor's and patients. There was a car sitting at the crosswalk and when my wife tripped and fell, she hit the bumper and license plate with her head causing a laceration above her left eye. I tried to catch her as she was going down, with our food flying, but I wasn't close enough. There happened to be a nurse outside and she immediately called ER staff. I was able to stabilize my wife's head and we rolled her over onto her back. An ambulance was also called, which still confuses me, we are at the hospital. We had to convince them to put my wife on the ER bed, instead of the ambulance gurney, due to having to take her from the gurney to the ER bed. After a CT scan, dressing for her laceration and waiting due to the ER being a mad house we were able to go home after 5 hours. Due to our sandwiches being tuna melts, we weren't able to enjoy them after sitting unrefrigerated for that length of time. My concerns are not with the staff, why isn't the orange cone back where the Valet station is, instead of in front of the doors.

Fantastic experience: I came to the ER recently, it was INSANELY busy. Of course it took some time to get help and even a room, that was how busy they were, and every singer worker was rushing around working so diligently and trying to maintain so many people with so many different medical situations on a multitude of levels. Despite the chaos, every single person there was so polite and friendly and continued to be through being admitted and treated on a separate floor. The nurses, every one of them were beyond incredible and so friendly and accommodating. The doctors were very informative and make sure to cover every base to make sure i was healthy at discharge. Even the gentleman who came to clean my room introduced himself, was kind, through, the kitchen staff feeding the multitude of people in here 3 times a day, incredible work guys. I felt taken care to the best of their abilities, even in the midst of so much going on. Thank you Riverside Team. You guys kick ass.

Fantastic experience: I loved my experience here giving birth as a first time mom. This was back in april, but I was so scared thinking the nurses would be annoyed at me but they were so pleasant and understanding. my nurse was julie and she was so sweet! Did a 12hr shift and then left for the night and came back and i requested her to be my nurse again while i was still in labor and she delivered my baby. Only ‘downside’ was after giving birth the nurses in the recovery area were slightly rude but nothing substantial. I wish we still lived there to give birth there again.

Fantastic experience: I have returned to this hospital the past 3 years more than 15 occasions with my elderly father. He has been admitted via the ER most visits. I feel secure putting my Dad in their care, and have yet to experience anything CLOSE to the negative reviews on this site. I have seen a packed ER on several occasions, and Riverside staff has been amazing. On two occasions (once last week) when it seemed like the ER was swamped, we were asked questions out in the waiting room, but nothing NOTHING that broke HIPPA regulations. I wonder if some of the reviewers on this site think that the order in which patients seen should be should correlate with patient arrival.. In return, I witnessed people waiting to be seen VERY rude to the nursing staff (understandable that when one is ill, one can get cranky --but, family or friends accompanying the patient??) Never have I seen the staff respond with anything less than courtesy. Dad, being elderly, usually is admitted to the ACE floor on the Annex. He is expertly monitored. Nursing and support staff are great, attending physicians listen to questions and someone ALWAYS gets back to us. My father's life is still going as strong as it can possibly be at his age of 96 because of this hospital . Our family is grateful to have a facility in the area that is as skilled---and we have been to other hospitals; in fact, we live less than a half mile from another major facility, but we travel 30 minutes to Riverside.
Fantastic experience: Good care.. had pretty bad chest pain and other symptoms that looked like a heart attack. I was brought back right away (within 3 minutes) to get hooked up to a small ECG monitor for a quick read and then brought to a real room for monitoring. From the front desk to the resident doctor and the two nurses I had the experience was as pleasant as an ED visit can be. I was getting a chest X-RAY within 20 minutes of being there. The tech that did my blood draw and IV site was really great, she put the catheter while the doctor was speaking to me and honestly I didn't even notice any sensation or pain while she was taking the blood and bandaging me. The resident doctor was very nice and seemed genuinely concerned about my symptoms, he never once made me feel like I was 'faking' anything or being over dramatic. I actually fell asleep for a bit and the oncoming nurse was very sweet about waking me up to give test results and take my IV catheter out. It may be because I went in at 0520am but the service was immaculate and the rooms were large, waiting room was clean and large.. it was a totally different experience than the hospital I usually go to if I have an emergency (Norfolk General and Obici) Thank you for easing my mind and treating me well
Fantastic experience: Just had surgery with Dr Charle Faulk a Riverside in Hampton. The care I received at this hospital was TOP TIER !!!! EVERY nurse/doctor (,Dr. Caldwell on anesthesia) gave exemplary care! From check in to post-op the procedure was SEAMLESS. THANK YOU for calming my fears
Fantastic experience: I recently went to the ER, and was transferred to L&D immediately after coming inside, I had an unexpected amount of complications and was in labor for longer than I was prepared for. I was very anxious and ended up getting really sick as well as the baby due to infection because I wasn't able to progress in labor fast enough after my water broke and labor stalled several times. The medical team here, every doctor, every l&d nurse, every anesthesiologist, every OR tech every post partum nurse, has nothing but my full gratitude and love. I felt so safe, protected, validated and truly heard out. They explained every option before doing it and making sure they had my consent, listened to my concerns, and were so on top of my health they would notice a change before it even fully hit me. I wish I could remember every single name so I could give them all full credit, (I was in and out of consciousness during the entire thing) but during my stay there isn't a single one of them I wouldn't trust with my life or the life of my baby. They were phenomenal, compassionate, and now I'm at home healing with my lil girl and doing great. Even though all my fears came true due to my body not being able to fully handle the pregnancy, they made my labor process one I can look back on and not hate. They deserve all the roses.
Fantastic experience: I came here to give birth to my son and received a epidural but things went wrong. The whole team was so wondering and took action right away so I can come back to normal. Diana and Paul were the ones that helped me get the epidural. The anesthesiologist Paul was so caring and came few times to my room to see how I was doing. He even explained what might have went wrong. I knew I was in good hands while being at riverside labor and delivery. Thank you for being wonderfully and caring!!
Fantastic experience: My mom was brought in which first thought, stroke, but brain blood clot, operated right away, she was home next evening. Anytime I called for update, I was given information, and call back on her condition. Everyone I spoke to was very courteous, friendly, and informative. I was extremely impressed with the people in the surgical ICU.
Fantastic experience: I want to thank all the nurses and OR team that rushed to help me after I started having complications during my discharge. Everyone was so quick to run over and help after seeing how painful and pale I was. Everyone was so nice unfortunately I don't remember everyone's names but special thank you too melany (sp?) In anesthesia recovery and the nurse who loves animals and video games for talking to me to distract from the pain and who was able to discharge me at the very end you are all rockstars. And thanks to Dr. Logan in Anastasia for continuing to check on me though out the ordeal.
Fantastic experience: Everyone was amazing! They were friendly, attentive and helpful. The team was easy going through delivery and we felt like we were in good experienced hands. After our baby was born we were put in a surprisingly spacious room, super clean and well maintained and we were checked up regularly and routinely .
Fantastic experience: Best hospital. Excellent services with a lot of care.
Fantastic experience: My son and I were greeted with TLC when we had to make a trip to the ER for stitches after an accident. Not only were we treated with great care, but I watched as other patients were welcomed and treated by the ER team. The entire staff was respectful, kind, and caring. It's nice to know that we have a good hospital serving our neighbors when they need help. Having a quality healthcare system in our neighborhood - serving our community - is vital for everyone’s quality of life.
Fantastic experience: In the last 7 weeks I have had an experience at Riverside Newport News ER and Riverside Walter Reed Gloucester ER and had surgeries at both. I could not have had better treatment. All the doctors, nurses and staff were respectful, caring and very professional. The only thing I saw were people in the ER waiting room who were not there for emergencies but things I felt could be handled by a PCP. This ties up the facility and the staff.
Fantastic experience: Had the best experience delivering my daughter at Riverside. My care team was amazing I could not be more thankful for each and every one of them. It made me genuinely sad to leave the hospital because they treated me so well.
Fantastic experience: Ohhhhh the memories of this place i owe this place alot of gratitude. the doctors and nurses and probaly the fileclerk knows of me here if you check the date back too 11--11-1994. the day i was concieved in this hospital born still birth born not breathing born d.e.a.d. it was this hospital that braught me back to life. the hospital deemed me a miracle baby here. i would love to meet the doctor and nurses who were there that day i have endless love and gratitude for them i would do anything for them. i would love to befriend them get to know them any person who can bring a dead baby back to life deserves to be a friend and family member of mine.
Fantastic experience: Have to give credit where it's due. The morning staff in the Pavillion were great. Although I can't quite remember everyone's name Ms. Nikki and Ms. Joanne stood out the most because they took care of my mothers needs the entire time. Outstanding customer service never gets credit so here's a little sunshine for those two!!! I hope someone actually reads these.
Fantastic experience: Took great care of me. Most of staff friendly and professional. One young girl takes blood needs some seasoning. Talked to much about personal issues. Overall though was good. The hospital I pref
Fantastic experience: Was taken to Riverside hospital after a car crash. The care I received by the emergency room staff was absolutely wonderful. However the care I received in the observation wing when I stayed for a day and night was just amazing. Jen the nurse practitioner listened to my concerns and was so helpful and kind. Going out of her way to make sure I was not in pain. After suffering a broken rib and bruised lungs and a sprained shoulder. I couldn't have asked for anything else. The nursing staff was unbelievable in the observation wing. Making sure I had my meds on time and there to help me get up and down out of bed as rib fractures are so painful. RN Shenise and RN Lakeisha were just the best. Offering kindness support and helping me with anything I needed to make my recovery easier. The Drs I spoke to were honest and down to Earth and told me like it was with compassion. They really cared. I would recommend this hospital to anyone. Thanks for your support and help after my accident.
Fantastic experience: I had my son via scheduled c-section and it was a wonderful experience. The staff in L&D and mother/baby were amazing, so caring and accommodating. Dr. Casanova was the doctor who completed my c- section. She did a wonderful job. They all took great care of both my son and I. We will be returning for our next delivery.
Fantastic experience: This Hospital is awesome. My Daughter was sick and they took care of her right away . The Nurses were amazing and made her feel really comfortable . Thank You
Fantastic experience: Best er. Loved the front desk ladies that was playing with my son. He loved every second of being there. They gave him coloring book and stickers. Helped him forget all about his eye and made him feel special
Fantastic experience: The best hospital I have ever been to. Hands down. Both of the DR's, I got had been very understanding of me not wanting narcotics for pain, due to my fear of them. They both helped me find homeopathic ways to feel better and advised me to take IBU (that worked btw) AND treated me from a place of great understanding. I wish I would have gotten their names to post here. They didn't just discover that I had three broken ribs, but they also found out I had chronic musculoskeletal problems. Now that I know, I can manage on my own. I couldn't be more greatful. Most DRs will not help the way these men did. Others would have ignored, made me wait hours, told me to go home and sent a massive bill. I would have still been in pain and I would have still never found out what was truly wrong with me. So thank you DRs! Keep going and doing what your doing.
Fantastic experience: Their labor and delivery, post natal, and NICU teams are the absolute best. They were very patient, understanding, caring, and accommodating through every step. Unlike other facilities I have been to, they never made us feel rushed or unwelcomed. From the doctors to the cleaning teams, hands down the best all around and we are so appreciative for their support during our stay!
Positive experience: My one complaint is the cleanliness of the ER area. I was put in the chair area for care which had dirty blankets on it from the last patient. The nurse told me to sit down and I immediately asked for something to wipe the area down at which time she cleaned the space for me. I just feel that if I had not said something she would have put me right on top of someone else's germs. The bathroom was also pretty dirt for it to be a hospital. A gown just sitting in there and paper towels and tissues on the floor. Maybe it was just a bad night, but the walls and fixtures in the bathroom gave me gas station vibes like everything could use a deep cleaning. I think if you are gonna turn part of the waiting area into treatment area it would work better logistically to have a rest room that doesn't require entering the main ER area that needs a key to enter and exit. Staff was okay to me. Seemed a little short staff, but everyone was pleasant. Not my first visit here. Previous visits did not make me feel the need to write a review for suggestions though.
Fantastic experience: The care my mother has received on 5 East has been fabulous. I haven’t had to worry about her getting her meds on time or getting anything she needs. Almost every nurse has gone above and beyond. Their knowledge and competence has equaled their compassion, positivity and care.
Fantastic experience: Recovery ❤️ from my thoracotomy years ago was eventually an easy experience post surgery. Nurses and the staff were very kind and helpful at all hours. A BIG THANK YOU to all of the professional CARE I received.
Fantastic experience: I am so grateful for the experience I encountered. The staff from the emergency room were outstanding . Although I did not want to be there I was treated with respect dignity patience and more importantly, care. To God I give the glory, but to the dr's ,nurses, cnas ,phlebotomy dept ,my ultrasound tech, aides, janitorial dept, financial dept kitchen dept, and even the ladies who came in trying to survey my butt lol ......... LORD I THANK YOU FOR PLACING THOSE PPL IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!! thank you riverside. Alone it was no one team that did...... IT WAS A VILLAGE OF DIFFERENT TEAMS WORKING TOGETHER FOR THE GOOD OF A PATIENT. signed ms hawkins i enjoyed my stay but glad to be gone ......ZOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Fantastic experience: I wanna brag about the nurses in Labor and delivery, Nurse Lauren, Nurse Whitney, and nurse Sara are some of the best nurses I’ve ever got a chance to cross paths with. My delivery was not very easy but those great ladies made sure I was loved on, cared for and went above and beyond to make sure I was ok. The doctor that delivered my baby was so friendly and reassured me that all would go well. Have only great things to say about my experience.
Fantastic experience: A few years ago, My then wife works for Sentara and had severe pain for weeks. Sentara wouldn’t help her… the hospital there didn’t even touch her or examine her in Suffolk. I took her to Bon Secours, which did a lot of tests but still had no answers. One night she had another painful attack and I took her straight to Riverside. Dr Fish walked in and instantly said, “I’m doing an ultrasound on you, I think it’s your gall bladder.” Within 30 minutes we had a diagnosis!! Her gall bladder was removed—problem solved! Riverside was right on it from the get-go…when every other hospital in Hampton Roads was lazy, uncaring and horrible. Riverside is amazing!
Fantastic experience: My wife was transferred here for major abdominal surgery and we were very happy with our experience once admitted. The ER was rough to get through (even though her physician called ahead to notify them of her severity), but once she got into a bed things smoothed out. Every staff member we encountered was great. She was admitted to the 5th floor and had a top notch surgical team led by Dr. Irvin. The nursing staff were all very attentive and she specifically remembers night shift nurses Elena and Kimberly, and day shift nurses Catherine, Harley, and Stephanie. Thank you to all who helped her through a tough week, we found the care excellent.
Fantastic experience: I had surgery and recovered on the second floor there for 24 hours a couple of days ago. Everything went well and there were no bad surprises. The nurses, doctors, nutritionists and everyone else there was just wonderful. They either had answers to all my questions or found answers for me. I cant imagine getting better care anywhere else. I know I wasn't one of the more difficult or challenging patients but I still appreciate all the care and attention I received.
Fantastic experience: Just want to say the baby delivery and the post pardon units are the best units in the world. The entire staff was on point from the time we got there and time we left. The only thing that needs to change the security and the front desk need to learn the rules of visitation and need to be inform on changes. That can lead to alot of family drama especially when people know the birth of a kid is special time for the mother and chosen one person over the other can lead to major disputes. Hospital should not be a prison yard but a place to go to say the final goodbyes or to welcome new life. Covid should stop being the excuse for rules that effect lives. Again thanks to those two units and that's the only reason for the five stars . If it wasn't for them it would of been negative a billion stars
Fantastic experience: My experience with Riverside Cancer Center and diagnostic departments including lab, imaging, interventional radiology, IV infusion center has been exceptional. All friendly staff. Always treated with respect.
Fantastic experience: Thanks, Riverside Regional Medical Center, for being the No#1 Top notch Neo Natal Paternity Ward in all of Hampton Roads... We thank you for taking such good care of our family, neighbors, and friends by practicing your "Mission Statement... "To care for your patients, as you would care for your loved ones," My husband was so pleased with your services, he rated your facility 5 stars because of the special care you've given. Including the kindness, empathy, and compassion of community volunteers, and also Pooch volunteers for emotional support as well. And the beautiful indoor spiritual sanctuary of encouragement and inspiration for one's health, healing, and well-being, as well as mental wellness, mind, and spirit... The"Outdoorsey," bench seatings of Abernathy Community Gardens Causey Mills Park & Trail, is absolutely gorgeous! "Just an Amazing breath of fresh air" with trails of abundant greenery trees, local wildlife & migrating species of birds. "A splended delight" for a heart-healthy and wholesome lifestyles of walks with family, friends, & Furbabies. Enhancing ones peace of mind, zen, and tranquility... Last but deff not the least... the lovley remodeled lounge seatings and Pavilion Concierge for patient and guest accomondation's of the "New Expansion Dischage & Transport Lounge Experience"...
Fantastic experience: I had to have a Epidural Steroid Injection at Riverside Physical Medicine & Rehab. The staff there were amazing. It was a very painful procedure, so the comfort that the doctor and the nurses provide made me feel at ease. The office staff was great in fitting me in at the last minute, because I stressed to them how much pain I was in. I have had to visit several doctors in the Riverside group over the last couple of months, and I can honestly say I haven't not one bad experience!
Fantastic experience: Let me start by saying that I think that the medical industry as a whole is the right hand of the devil........ That being the case, my wife and I were planning on having a home birth for our first child. That did not go as planned and we were forced to make a quick decision on where to take my wife. Our midwife recommended Riverside to us and we were so happy that she did. The staff that helped us were absolutely fantastic. They took great care of my wife and were so very kind to us. They found out that it was my birthday and they were really excited to help give me the greatest birthday present I could ever ask for. They respected our wishes and were true professionals at what they did, they even went out of there way to teach me a few things. Thanks to them my beautiful wife and son were both in great shape and we went home as a family the next day. I will be eternally grateful to the doctors and nurses who helped us become a family!
Fantastic experience: Amazing staff and hospital. I watched not one, but an entire team of Drs., do everything they could to help my husband. They were caring and treated him with the utmost respect and dignity. Through the years they cared for him and performed expert surgery on his heart, as well as, extensive gastro surgery. I am grateful and humbled that Riverside has such an amazing team.
Fantastic experience: I delivered at RRMC a month ago. I could not have had a better experience. In labor the staff helped to honor my wishes and were the best support system. I was cared for as my family would care for me. I felt educated and empowered. After delivery my postpartum experience could not have been better. The nurses became like friends and helped transition me to a new mother. I was able to heal and love on my baby in the best environment. I was educated on everything they did and felt comfortable when it was time to go home. All of the staff was incredible. Lactation consultants were very knowledgeable and helped immensely as well. My room was always clean and dietary had so many options for wonderful meals. Wonderful hospital!!
Fantastic experience: My mother was in the hospital being treated and it was time to transition her into a nursing home. Not living close and not knowing what to do I hired a patient advocate. We were treaded with the red carpet out by all of the staff at Riverside. The advocate I hired commented on the treatment we received and told me that she normally works in Virginia beach and Norfolk and is not treaded that well at any of the hospitals in that area. They found places she could go gave me time to review them and make a choice. I could not have ask to be treated any better during this difficult situation.
Fantastic experience: inpatient stay had great care. My mom was well taken care of and they communicated with me daily about her next steps. Care manager offered to assist with any home needs as well, helping us set up and assess her for rehab if we decided to take that route. Caring nurses and staff members throughout the hospital.
Fantastic experience: My mom died here. It’s hard to give a high ranking to a place when thinking about being there reminds you of something very painful. It hurts to think about the ICU and riverside hospital. That’s true but there are some other true things too. My beautiful mother battled cancer for 2 years. She was cleared, scans were all clear, but 4 months later it had spread to her brain and lungs and we had to have that conversation about what was reasonable to expect for time left. She woke unable to breath and we called 911, she had pneumonia before and we all hoped thats what it was but she had lost an entire lung to cancer. The nurses always took my call, the physician took my call, the manager took my call. Only one of us could come to be with her each day so sometimes I just had to call, they always took my call, they were always kind to me. Five days later she was delirious and could not come off the ventilator. Her oncologist came and sat with us, kissed her on the head and said goodbye my friend and cried with us. The nurses were so gentle and kind to us. They got approval to let my dad and sister and me be there when we allowed natural death. The hospice physician walked us through what would happen and had really great emotional intelligence, the critical care physician did to. They did not rush us. It took a few hours for her heart to stop. They gave her medicine and kept her calm and comfortable. It was very hard but they helped so much.
Fantastic experience: I’ve had 2 scheduled csections at Riverside Regional, one in 2013 and the one last month (2020) both were amazing experiences. Even during the pandemic, everyone in the hospital was amazing. Everyone on the labor and delivery floor was so kind and made me and my family so comfortable. The housekeepers were even sweet and personable as well as the sweet ladies who bring you food and take orders. I loved every second of my last delivery and hospital stay despite all of the scariness. I had my baby 12/10/2020 and the hospital was completely decorated in beautiful Christmas decorations as well, it looked magical. Just all around and amazing experience and I’d recommend anyone having a baby to deliver here!
Fantastic experience: My husband is currently undergoing treatment with a group of Riverside medical professionals. He just had surgery and spent 3 days in Riverside Regional, and his care was outstanding. Everyone from check-in to check-out was friendly, helpful, and thorough. I wish I could name each person we interacted with, as every one is worthy of recognition. Total professionals!
Fantastic experience: My mother was quickly admitted from the ER and tended to by a great team of professionals. The nursing staff was so sweet and they even had a sitter with her anytime we were not in the room. One nurse was even so kind that she came back, coat in hand before eating for the day just to ensure we were taken care of. They didn't give up when they couldn't pinpoint the problem right away and she is healthier now than ever thanks to specialists working together to find a cause. I can't thank these folks enough!
Fantastic experience: I recently came into Riverside Newport News for a scheduled induction for my baby, I was so nervous but Erika and the rest of the riverside team made my visit here one of the best experiences I have ever had. The riverside team made sure I was comfortable and had everything that I needed. Any questions I had were answered with clear understanding of what I was to expect from the process an the next coming hours. I didn’t come into to contact with anyone from each department that didn’t make me welcome and comfortable. Thanks to everyone on the riverside team who made this a experience to remember keep up the good work!! 11-8-20
Fantastic experience: Just finished up with a long 4 hour test at this hospital. I must say... I have zero complaints (i usually can come up with at least one). The nurse that put the IV in my arm... holy cow... never felt the needle! shock!! Everyone (and I was handled by several different personnel) were all very attentive, friendly, caring, etc.. etc. Thank you to everyone there... and one other thing... it has been my experience, most cardiologists are *****... Dr. Ward was so personable, explanatory, friendly, patient... all the things you want in a doctor. Riverside has certainly stepped it up.
Fantastic experience: I just got home from an overnight stay at your hospital. I was treated very well and the nurses were fantastic. During the day I had Rachel. I was on the 5th floor telemetry unit. Rachel was very nice and kind and sweet. Rachel make sure that I wanted for nothing. She and I even had a conversation and she consoled me when I was tearful. She is the epitome of a good nurse. In the evening I had nurse Katrina. she was very nice and she made sure not only I didn't need anything she made sure that my family didn't need anything. You have top notch nursing at your hospital. And I hope that Rachel gets some recognition for this review. She is a fantastic compassionate caring nurse.
Fantastic experience: Great hospital. I spent 10 days in there with covid 19 they took great care of me. The doctors were great doing what they thought would be the best treatment for me I was feeling better after a couple of days. The nurses were so nice and took great care of me. I would recommend anyone that needs to go to the hospital to go here they really do care about you and your health here. Thank you everyone that took care of me and for getting me well and back home to my husband. God Bless You All
Fantastic experience: Started out by a long long wait in the er but definitely worth it. Was transferred to room 4502 my nurses were all truly amazing but one really stood out. Beth. She was just an all around amazing patient person . surgery was great everyone was so pleasant to be around. But Beth took her time out and made sure I was taken care of before she went home. She was just an amazing woman. And deserves a raise! Lol. I think she deserves recognition! Thank you Beth
Fantastic experience: My husband had quadruple bypass surgery by Dr. Paul Evans, and his cardiologist was Dr. Anthony Lombardo. There is nothing negative I can say about the care, professionalism, and concern we have received from the entire staff, from the surgeon, drs, aids, nurses, cafeteria or the Starbucks. It’s quite apparent, customer service is uppermost. As infection is always of great concern, it was comforting when I noticed cleaning staff washing door handles in a vacant room. Care givers always wore fresh gloves, and one RN even gave me her personal phone number in case I had questions, concerns. Not only were they quick to help Mike, my husband, they always were concerned if I needed anything as well, always there with guest trays of food or warm blankets. Five star.
Fantastic experience: I had my baby here. let me just say that I feel like my labor couldn't have been better. the nurses were great! my delivery was straight forward. staff was great! Informative and helpful, sweet, and professional. this hospital has such a bad reputation and I was scared to deliver here. I thought I would have the worst delivery ever. but it was the total opposite.
Fantastic experience: I recently delivered my beautiful baby boy at this hospital. If I was blessed again with another baby, I would definitely deliver here again. The doctors and nurses took such good care of me and my family. The lactation consultants were amazing here and were knowledgeable. Even the nurses were able to help me learn how to breastfeed my son. Everyone was so attentive to our needs. The midwife and nurses that helped me deliver were so awesome at couching me. They stayed positive the whole time even though I was a crazy screaming lady. My only regret was not personally thanking them again for there services. Thank you Riverside!! Keep up the great work.
Fantastic experience: Nurses and doctors have always been competent, caring and helpful when multiple family members are at this facility, especially my elderly 93 year old grandmother. I spent 4 days & nights here and every single nurse, aide, therapist and doctor were superb. Hell even the cafeteria was great; Big selection and friendly staff. The food was not bad, I ate here several times. I’m shocked the rating is so low, I guess people just like to complain. This is a medical facility, not a 5 star hotel with award winning food...
