Fantastic experience: We entered the hospital through the emergency based on a massive stroke that my dad had experienced. From the moment we arrived through the couple of days that we needed to be there for his comfort care each, and every staff and faculty member were amazing! They took time to listen and offer Advisement based on the process and just were above the charts awesome. They were there to help us through and did their jobs very well. So thankful.

Hi Lisa, hank you for sharing your experience. We’re so glad our team could provide compassionate and attentive care during such a difficult time for your family. Your kind words mean a lot, take care! Gio Patient Liaison Officer

Negative experience: I went into the er room in 12/8 with very bad abdominal pain. It was such a long wait. I waited over 4 hours to get my labs and ct results. When I did they told me is was gastric pain. Then I came home and read the discharge papers and found out I have and enlarged liver. Which can be serious and not one person cared to tell me that it was enlarged I will be filing a complaint to ombudsman department. I only have one health and the liver shouldn’t be pushed off. The next day still in the worst pain ever.

Tri-City Medical Center

Hi Sheryl, I'm so sorry you had to go through such a painful experience and felt overlooked during your visit. Your concern deserve to be taken seriously. I would like to hear more about your experience and try to fix what went wrong. Please feel free to give me a call at 760-940-5566. Gio, Patient Liaison Officer

Negative experience: This is a recap of my 6-1/2 hour ER experience only. On Sunday 11/24 I was transported by Oceanside paramedics after being involved in a serious car accident. I arrived at the ER at 2:30 PM; after waiting outside to be checked in, they placed my gurney in the hallway, directly inside the bay doors. After some intervention by the paramedic (who was told they were trying to find a doctor) at 3:40 a doctor came and removed my neck brace. 10 minutes later I was moved to the triage/ER waiting area. (I have never been in a filthier room in my entire 70 years!) At 5 PM after not having been seen by anyone and in a great deal of pain, my husband asked a nurse for an ice pack. At 6:15 PM after still not having been seen by anyone, my husband again found a nurse and asked for pain medication. At 6:45 PM I was given a CT scan and rolled back to the small, crowded, filthy waiting room. At 7:30 PM I finally spoke with the doctor, who said the written report/discharge papers would be ready in 10-15 minutes. An hour and a half later (after my husband again tracked down a nurse) the paperwork arrived, whereby they rolled me out the back door. While waiting for the car to be brought around, the original paramedics who brought me in came out the back door, saw me, did a double take and said "oh my gosh - are you still here???" At 9 PM we were finally on our way home. A couple of notes: (1) the doctor told me that when she came on duty there were 32 patients waiting to be seen and she was the only ER doctor on duty; (2) not only did the floor in the waiting room looked as though it hadn't been cleaned in a month, I can only imagine the last time the chairs had been wiped down/disinfected. (3) Apparently the room behind us was a staff room - they were certainly having a raucous good time; (4) the restroom? filthier than the waiting room - worse than any bad gas station bathroom; (5) the car I was riding in was rear ended by a Greyhound bus. The window next to me shattered, causing lacerations and leaving pieces of glass on my clothing and skin. Not one single medical professional I interacted with bothered to clean the lacerations, treat the cuts or remove any glass - except for the CT technician who thought I had "sparkly jewelry" on my shirt...All that being said, I understand that the ER department is supposedly undergoing renovation. That is no excuse for the horribly filthy conditions patients waiting to receive care are subject to. I've been to a lot of medical facilities over my lifetime, in particular many in the past 3 years since my husband's cancer diagnosis, and I have never been in a facility where it seemed like there was no "system" or anyone in charge. Is going from room to room calling out patients' names trying to find them seem like a good system? Does discussing patients' medical conditions in the middle of a crowded waiting room seem like it's HIPAA compliant? Having patients in hospital gowns being made to wait in the same room with other patients and visitors doesn't seem to be a sign of caring about the patients. Rather than publicly post this, I would have MUCH preferred to send this in an email to someone in administration, whether it was Gene Ma, or someone in patient liaison, the ER director, etc., but finding contact information for any of these individuals has proven to be most challenging. So here I am. Car accident aside, it was a horrible experience from the time they rolled my gurney in until they slammed my wheelchair into the door on the way out. Someone needs to be in charge. Someone needs to do better. Someone needs to be held accountable. Has anyone in upper management walked through your Triage/ER department lately? If you have, then you are just as responsible as the people working there. Lesson learned; never again. Closest hospital or not I will go the extra distance and pay whatever extra I need to be taken to Scripps La Jolla or Palomar or any other ER that isn't Tri-City.

Fantastic experience: The absolute best staff and care that you could ask for! The building is rough, the ED is under construction so it was difficult to navigate. The rooms, tables and beds were definitely worn. However, the care I received from the ED, OR and 2P nurses and techs/CNAs from nights and day shift were phenomenal. My doctors were attentive and I felt very secure in their care. I highly recommend this community hospital. -SP

Negative experience: We have our father sent to emergency to check him as he was having fever with chills and he was delirious. We were told to wait at the waiting room and after sometime one of the staff told us that he was in one the er triage room, and let us in we went and there was an ER Tech(curly hair) sitting in the front and asked her about our father. She asked us who let us in and that we’re not supposed to be inside. I told her that one of the staff told us to be here and so she asked us to go out and wait outside again, we were anxious and feeling tired so we got frustrated that we had to go back outside then few seconds asked us to come back, she told me not to give an attitude. My father was inside and anxious so I kınd of answer her back that we already told her that he was inside when she could just have told us nicely to stay put, and so of course I have to voice out my frustration the way she treated us, and let her know that my dad is inside and we are anxious not knowing so I told her that she could have been respectful and not to treat us or her tone of voice was being disrespectful. She needs to show understanding and as courtesy apology to my mom. Anyone going to the emergency has mixed emotion and the er tech was not helpful and was very disrespectful. Staff should at least have compassion and understanding especially families dealing with like these emergency situation. The nurse was very nice and patient enough to listen to us. She was actually there listening to our concern.

Hi Emat, thank you for sharing your experience with us. We’re truly sorry for the frustration and lack of communication you encountered during such a difficult time. Fantastic experience: Today marks two weeks since my heart surgery. As a (now-retired) physician, I have seen just how wrong things can go wrong. But my surgery and post-op care went completely right. Thinking hard, I cannot imagine any aspect that could have been better. My wife and other family commented on how friendly and supportive all the staff were to me and to them.

Tri-City Medical Center

Hi George, I'm so glad to hear your surgery and recovery went smoothly and couldn’t have been better. Wishing you all the best as you continue to heal. Take care! Gio Patient Liaison Officer

Fantastic experience: Hospital admit. From the moment I arrived, everyone greeted me kindly, introduced themselves, and helped me navigate each part of my planned procedure. The Cardiovascular Health Institute managed everything so there were no worries or issues. Each person in the cardiac care area was cordial and eager to make sure I knew what was happening, and made me feel like I was the only person they were taking care of. The professionalism and expertise was amazing. ICU couldn't have been more spot on. Kudos to ICU NURSES Mical, Chapman, Gina, and Brooke. Great experience! Doctors Yung, Wu, Vu...wow! TCMC=Excellent care!

Tri-City Medical Center

Hello B, thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience! Negative experience: ER very bad experience. As for my hospital doctors. They told me one thing then changed their minds. Continued to try and force me to a nursing home after I told them several times no! Then refused to discharge me when I felt I was ready to go home. Doing well at home by the way. I had to leave on my own. Nurses where great except one, she should be fired! She tried to treat me with something that would only have a doctor approvel. Scary! I hope she don't injure someone. Nurse Hannie was a superstar. Hope she goes far. I'm alive by the hand of God. I believe if I allowed them to continue to treat me, I be far worse off.

Tri-City Medical Center

Hi Ron, I’m sorry to hear about your experience in our emergency department and the miscommunication regarding your discharge and care preferences. Fantastic experience: My 82yr old Father In Law had outpatient surgery on Friday 10/04/24 & we wanted to recognize absolutely sterling care he received from Nurses “Lauren” in Recovery & “John” who came to wheel him into & back from surgery & also “Diana” who was so kind when taking cardiac readings. Unfortunately on early hours of Monday 10/07 he had to be admitted to ER & while that was a worrying time, we are compelled to recognize Nurses “Macey” and “Seth” especially for outstanding care & kindness provided to our Family. We would be amiss not to recognize Security Officer “Dean Espinoza” who seemed to be always there to open ER door & greeted us warmly each & every time. We also thank Nursing staff on 4th floor who attended to Father In Law in Room 403. Finally we recognize Dr. Pash for not only his surgical skills but his kindness & hand holding in coming out after each surgery to provide comprehensive update to Family. We are leaving hospital today & did not want to miss opportunity to stop & recognize all the excellence we came across. This hospital is clearly fortunate to be staffed by truly dedicated & talented individuals who genuinely care about patients & families. Well Done Tri-City, keep up the sterling work !!!!!!

Fantastic experience: Within the last year, I have taken my mother to TriCity Hospital several times. Each visit the doctors are thorough and kind. Each time she has had to stay, the nurses are attentive and gentle. We were luck to have been assigned a private room, so that our family could visit our mother, and not disturb another paient. As TriCity grows, I am confident that they are at thier core, a community of health care providers who are compassionate to all and care for all those who seek care, compassion and healing. I give praise when it is earned. TriCity has earned this review. Those who work there serve the elderly, homeless, military, working class and all levels of professionals. They treat each person with dignity and respect. Those who work at TriCity live in the tricity area. Those first responders are neighbors caring for neighbors. Thank you for the care and compassion you faithless show all. Rachel White

Fantastic experience: Tri-City Medical Center has really delicious food on their menu in their cafeteria. I thought I would eat my lunch in there on Tuesday, September 11, 2024 at 1 p. m. I ordered their salad with veggies and ranch dressing. Then for my main dish I requested one Roast Beef Melt with French Fries , one Mocha Cappuccino, and 2 soft baked cookies. One was peanut butter and the other was oatmeal. My total bill was $11.00. Everything I ate that day was very healthy and delicious!

Hi Frances, I'm so glad you enjoyed our delicious food! If you’re in the area during breakfast time stop on by. The omelets and breakfast sandwiches are my favorite! Take care! Gio Patient Liaison Officer

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience during my trip to the Emergency Room at Tri City Medical Center in July 2024. From the moment I arrived, the ED nurses were incredibly kind and helpful, putting me at ease during a stressful time. They reacted quickly to administer the necessary medications, ensuring I felt better right away. The ED doctor took the time to thoroughly explain what was happening and how they planned to address it, which made me feel reassured and confident in their care. They even made sure I had medication waiting for me at the pharmacy when I left. I left feeling relieved and grateful to have been in such capable hands.

Fantastic experience: The change that is in progress here at Tri City, hospital is nothing short of amazing. The quality of care has improved 100X just this year. I am a patient with chronic illnesses that needs medical care quite frequently, the entire staff here has shown a growth in compassion and patient care is constantly improving and growing. I look forward to see more of this growth at this vitality important facility for our cities. Rooms are kept very clean, no understaffing at all! I’m very happy for the community and the residents of our county. Including Dr. Bobick, an example of doctors focus in the care of his patients, always kind and understanding with a great compassion he serves us all. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication! I wanted to add to my post, I have to thank all of the doctors, nurses, nurses aides, and social services that cared for me this past year, and especially my last stay, I had an amazing team of doctors that came together and fought for me to save my leg! I must say even a year ago I had not been given this level of care at Tri-City, however, since the new changes have been implemented, the care level has risen above and beyond many other hospitals in not only California, but in other states that I have received care. It’s truly a blessing for the entire community here! I found my treatment rivaled that of Scripps and other leading hospitals. Thank you is all can say, keep up the great work!!

Tri-City Medical Center

Hi Sue, thank you so much for your positive words! We’re thrilled to hear that you’ve experienced such amazing care and noticed the positive changes at Tri-City. I will relay your kind words to Dr. Bobick as well as our other staff. Take care! Gio Patient Liaison Officer

Fantastic experience: The parking is a little hokey, but it's ok. When I went it looks like they are doing some updating to the building. I had an appointment for radiation for a HSG procedure. Let me tell you. I was nervous and my PTSD was setting in. It was setting in so much voices started to muffle and echo, but Molly, Melinda, and Dr. Mayberry were Bravo Zulu! They gave such great support, wiped my tears, gave me a cool compress, and they let me grip their hands and helped me breath. If I'm ever in child birth MAN, they are on my labor team 1000%. All things considered it was a good experience.

Positive experience: Aside from my terrible ER experience, it’s been amazing while I’ve been admitted. Nurse Stephanie and Jessie was really my saving grace and helped in any way they could and were so kind. My stay has been great, besides from the fact that lots of doctors and nurses come in at random times and never made sure I was awake enough to speak to them, so I don’t remember anything that’s been said to me because I was basically still asleep. My overall experience has been amazing i recommend being admitted here but I do not recommend the ER.

Negative experience: The doctors in the emergency department are disrespectful and do not respect the people who come to the emergency department. They treat them badly, and we come to get treatment for private health insurance in the government. They are not homeless, they do not pay money to them. The government pays the money. They build houses and buy cars.

Negative experience: My husband was taken by ambulance to the ER and subsequently admitted to the hospital. The tests that they ran were coming out negative but they had not gotten all the results back. So instead of waiting for the rest of the results, they shrugged their shoulders and discharged him. We were told the rest of the test results would be sent to our doctor & to follow up with him. When we did, the test had not been sent. When we called Tri City we were told that the doctor’s office needed to request the results. We were never told that!!! Then when we got a FAX number for that, Tri City refused to send the info to that number.. In short, go somewhere else!

Negative experience: Tonight, I took my daughter to the emergency room about 8:30pm because her glands were swollen under her chin and around her ear. We waited 30 minutes just to get registered, and then an hour later, a kind gentleman came to take her vitals. There were only two RNs and one physician assistant, who were not very helpful, and one doctor who was extremely busy. We were still waiting for them to examine her glands and diagnose the issue, according to the physician assistant. No medications or antibiotics were prescribed. No one attended to my daughter for two hours, and she was in pain with no one available to ask how long we would have to wait. I had to go home to get painkillers, and we decided to go to the ER at Scripps the next morning. It was the worst experience I've ever had at an emergency facility. Got out of ER room about 12 midnight without any service of helping her issues better. But we do sign for the bill.

Negative experience: I went to the ER because i couldn’t breathe. I was put on oxygen by fire dept and was doing ok. When I went into the ER area, I sat there for 18 hours! They drew blood 3 times, the nurse that tried to find a vein, couldn’t!! The staff sits and stare at their computer. Usually a card game. The nurses look unprofessional comport Scripps or ucsd or the local veterinary office. The ambulance asked if I wanted to go to another hospital, next time I will. I thought they had to take you to the closest hospital. That’s not the case. So ask to go to Encinitas Scripps.

Negative experience: Was there for 5 hours after injuring my foot at work.. if you ask a question, be prepared to be talked down to.. after waiting 4 hours I finally saw a doctor and when I asked him if that meant I was almost done he stood up and said "do you want to talk to me or not?!" Put my head down after that and stayed quiet. Never again.. they should close this hospital for good.. also, they didn't have a dr on staff for the first 3 hours I was there but they neglected to tell me that.

Negative experience: This hospital is scummy. I left a review about a month or two ago and I just figured out that it was deleted. Wasn’t me…. I guess they really do not care about their patients. To recap since I was muted the first time, they allowed a dog in the waiting room that was barking at very I’ll patients, there was urine all over the restroom floor the whole time that I was there, and I never even got seen by a doctor. We left after around 8 hours because we still hadn’t seen anyone and had no update when we would and at that point, it would’ve been faster to see my primary care doctor. Please do not come here. I promise driving a little bit further to Palomar Hospital would be worth it.

Negative experience: Terrible actitud from the technician in the ER,My son spent almost 4 hrs in the emergency room waiting to be called, finally he went to ask the technician how long for him to be seen by a dr.this guy told my son that 1st he could't find him on the list!! And second that he didn't consider my son's situation a priority and he couldn't tell us how long it will take...on top of it he told my son to not waiste people;s time when we decided to leave.Just terrible !!!!

Negative experience: Went for a mammogram no signage showing where it was and never told it was at the Woman's Center. Then needed to go for erays so I was pre registered and was told to check in with Security or Information Center but when I told them I was already registered they still sent me to registration. I told the senior man I was already registered he still made me wait . Finally after wasting my time a lady told me I was already registered. I can understand why this hospital has such a low rating. You have your patience running around and waiting an unreasonable amount of time to get procedures done.Get your act together

Negative experience: I would never recommend this place! I was there for hip fracture but they would have a neurologist come in to my room so he could charge me! The discharge was so messy and they won’t answer my calls for medical records! The staff were friendly is the only reason I gave them one star

Negative experience: I don’t understand how this place is still in business. I don’t EVER go here I usually drive all the way down to Palomar medical center but my sister had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital and i forgot to tell them to go to palomar so they took her to the nearest hospital which was tri city and of course it was the worst experience. Fantastic experience: It's the people that make any business of any sort great or awful. I've been to Tri-City twice and both times every single person I came in contact with was wonderful. Folks took their time to engage with warmth and attentiveness. No mistakes or problems either time. I've been well-served by Tri-City Medical Center.

Negative experience: Went here for a gallbladder attack and they let met suffer in pain for 6 hours before giving me any pain relief (ibuprofen and mylanta). I vomited 3 times while there and had to wait for the anti nausea medicine for 6 hours too. Then, they said they sent prescriptions to my pharmacy for the same medication they treated me with. This is not true. I called them to speak with them and ask for the correct medicine to be sent, as promised, and was told to come back in again. The medicine is lidocaine that goes with the mylanta, it is not a narcotic or anything. They do not care about their patients and do not deserve your business.

Negative experience: RUN, this place will treat you horribly! The doctor had an intern place an IV on me to practice and kept missing. It was so painful and unnecessary! Fantastic experience: Tri city took care of my Dad so well in the late 80's...The staff deserves 10 stars. That was the best hospital experiance i've ever had. I was in MAJOR PAIN.. I got a shot in my arm where they give like a booster shot in the upper arm and it wasn't offered before by any hospital. It is non opiat and pain is 100% gone. Isn't that something? The nurse said it has been around forever but it was never offered before. Wow times are changing so quickly for the better. I forgot the name of it. But im sure if u ask they will know what it is. What a strong compassionate awsome crew. Thank you so much Tri City hospital❤️

Negative experience: I was a walk in with my husband. I was having trouble breathing. the emergency room staff asked a view questions and took vitals. then it was back into the waiting room to wait for my name to be called. My parkinsons meds were reacting to a new med. Dont ever go there. It was humiliating and no privacy. worst treatment. if you have parkinsons go somewhere else. Positive experience: I have fever and congestion. I want a prescription for treatment and I am not complaining about anything. They told me that they would not give me the prescription until after taking a sample. I came at 11 p.m. and left at 2:28 and did not take the prescription. In addition, they told me to wait for about an hour. Is that possible? Note: I have praise for my doctor that she is good in terms of treatment. Despite the huge number of patients and the nursing department are wonderful in addition to security, I think there is a problem in the sampling department. Thank you.

Negative experience: If I could give this place a zero I would. If you care about your health and well-being do not go here. Their MIR system was “down”, their database was breached is what the nurse told me so they had to hand write my proscription, which the doctor did not sign. I could get my medication, I called multiple times to get some help but was hung-up multiple time by multiple uncaring, unprofessional employees who said needed to come back to the ER room to have the doctor sing the proscription. I drive 30 minutes in pain only to find out they had no idea which doctor saw me. I asked them to look at my chart as I was here just the day before, I was told my chart would not have the doctors name. The believable…. No one knew what they were doing.. I would never ever go back and warn anyone who is seeking medical attention to go somewhere that has the capability to help. These people do not care about their patients or their job. I will be following up with a formal complaint. TriCity should be ashamed..

Fantastic experience: I had poison oak so bad I had to go to the hospital. Due to negative reviews, I was initially hesitant but was taken there anyway. I'm so glad I was. Everyone was kind, I was taken care of medically, and one of the nurses(you know who you are) went above and beyond. She was a literal angel. She made me feel seen and not judged just because I'm homeless. I sincerely hope that her idea to donate to the needy at the hospital catches on and spreads to other hospitals. Godbless

Negative experience: Avoid this place if you can. They’ve tried to rebuild its reputation but it’s not working. Long wait times for ER and other procedures. Lots of criminals in ER. Staff are sporadically good, many are frustrated or flat out mean. Lots of miscommunication which causes you (the patient) to not know what’s going on. I’ve watched staff spill bedpans and have little reaction then a cleaning crew comes when they feel like it meanwhile everyone is stepping in it. That’s just one example. I’ve personally been here many times over the past 2 months for a family member and it’s disappointing that I don’t feel comfortable having them there.

Fantastic experience: We were in California visiting when my mother suffered an MI. I am an ICU RN and have practiced for 30+ years in Utah. I cannot say enough praise about the care she received at Tri-City. The nursing staff and physicians were beyond competent and compassionate. Dr Speigel was exceptional at explaining everything he needed to do. I definitely would not recommend this for a vacation but I cannot imagine a better place to have been given the circumstance. Negative experience: Staff are soo rude! Upset that visitors don’t have a badge but yet no one is even at the front desk to check people in. Then complained they are aware no one is at the desk because they don’t have staff. Not sure if they expect visitors to do their job and check them selfs in! 2nd floor nurses had a bad attitude mainly nurse P. Sue she stated “she didn’t know what to tell me” because she had no follow up notes for her patient when asked. Ridiculous! Staff should no care plan and treatment for their assigned patients. Negative experience: What I loved the most was waiting in a freezing waiting room for over 10 hours to get 2 Tylenols. That was literally all the medical treatment I got from this place. Anyone who has experience with Jail or Prison Medical Services, will quickly see that this place is run just like that, minus the prisoners. The typical, "Let me check" and ignore you, the "Hold on" run around. Then after the 10 hours to get the 2 Tylenols, waited some more hours to have myself told that it's "probably" this from the ONE doctor I saw in 12+ hours. Imagine sitting in a chair, in a freezing waiting room mind you, with excruciating pain for 10+ hours and verbally telling staff that you're in a ton of pain and nothing being done. I've met a couple great staff who seemed like they actually cared but overall, I would highly, HIGHLY recommend you go somewhere else.

Negative experience: Billing department is horrible. I asked for an itemized bill and I got a cryptic letter that looked like it was written on a typewriter. I went here when I experienced a miscarriage on vacation and was advised to come back in 2 days. All they did the second day was take my blood and I got a bill higher than the day I actually had the services in which they confirmed my miscarriage (ultrasound/pelvic exam/etc). I fought the bill and was told “The emergency department is more expensive than an urgent care.” No kidding, that’s why I wouldn’t go there unless advised by a medical profession, your doctors that told me to return. But to doctor on the second day just seemed confused about why I was there. Not only did I lose my pregnancy, now I am paying more to have a miscarriage than to have actually had a baby. I have insurance and this hospital is in network. Also hospital rules didn’t allow my husband to come back for my ultrasound the initial day I went in. I was bleeding all over the table and was in severe pain from losing then pregnancy but no exceptions were made. Overall the staff was OK but I was not happy with being told to return and then questioned why I was there again if I knew I had a miscarriage….

Fantastic experience: Was very satisfied with my experience at Tri-City Medical Center. I had to check in very early for my procedure in the cardiac cath lab. Everything was explained to me during the pre-procedure with getting me as well as the room ready for my procedure. Post procedure was pleasant as well in the recovery room. Had a slight bleeding issue (not uncommon) that was addressed quickly and resolved over time. Was there 10 hours and received great care. Thank you to the secretary that checked me in, all of the many nurses involved, the x-ray tech, the ultrasound tech, the cardiac device representative, and the cardiologist involved with my care. RB

Negative experience: Horrible hospital!!! It takes more than 7 hours to be seen at the ER. I can't wait till Kaiser opens their new hospital. Tri city allows to many homeless people to sleep on the chairs and take up other people's time that need to be seen for medical reasons. Homeless people occupy the bathrooms and time here. I just saw a homeless guy pulling down his pants. Another homeless guy is causing a scene and cursing just the worst hospital.

Negative experience: Warning, Do not go to this hospital! I had to check myself out in the middle of nite in order to get the medical care I needed. If you ring for a nurse you can expect a 30-40 minute response time. When they do arrive their common response is NO. The orderlies will throw you around like a sack of potatoes. Your bed linens, blanket and gown will never be changed and you can forget about a sponge bath. The food belongs in a prison. My wife witnessed this treatment and happy to support my opinion should the hospital disagree. It’s unfortunate that more people in the community don’t know what goes on at Tri-City Hospital. Negative experience: Hospital visit My review does not include the one nurse that came out to check my temperature in the waiting room or the female who took my ultrasound, they were kind and seemed to care. Everyone else from the older nurse who checked me in to the Doctor did not care about what I had to say and were not concerned about my needs. It was such a waste of my time to go to tri-city and wait 5hrs and 30mins only to be miserable, uncomfortable, watch individuals get called before me even though I arrived first to never even be called into a room. After 4.5 hours they finally called me in and like 5 other patients. it felt like I was at a hospital in a 3rd world country they had like 6 chairs lined up for the patients they were trying to get rid of just to sit and be asked questions by the doctor about why you were there, in front of everyone else which gave zero privacy to myself and the other patients, it was very uncomfortable. I will never go back to tricity again and I will spread the word to family and friends when needed about my experience so that they don’t make the same mistake I did by trusting tri city with my medical needs.

Negative experience: My wife has been sitting in the er waiting room for 6 hours (and counting). (Not reasonable). She'd been better off to take the risk and wait for an appointment with our physician instead of wasting her time in the er. The difference between the wait time in the er vs the time to get into a physician with a same day appointment has narrowed significantly over the years. Whatever is ailing her is obviously not life threatening; she should be briefed on her condition and told to see her own physician. When we have medical issues the debate is always centered on whether it's worth the wait at tri city or just bite the bullet and hope for a same day appointment with a doctor. Heaven help us if we do have a life threatening emergency....and decide not to risk the wait time.

Tri-City Medical Center

We are sorry to hear about the long wait time in our ER. We will look into this and will try to improve our wait times in the future. Thank you for choosing Tri-City Medical Center for your family's care, we wish you all the best in your health.

Fantastic experience: I was reluctant to walk into the ER because there was a line outside the door, but it moved quickly. I was checked in upon clearing security and waited in line to have my vitals taken. Within an hour, I had my vitals taken and then had to wait to see an ER doctor. Within three hours of my arrival, I had seen the doctor, had blood drawn, and had an EKG. The fourth hour I was waiting for a bed. I was told I would be spending the night in the ER since there weren't any beds open in the hospital. The ER nurses Diane, Hailey and later Lisa were fantastic! They made sure I got a dinner plate and was comfortable. They would check in on me periodically. The doctor showed up and explained the plan and was very professional! That evening, they brought a toothbrush and toothpaste, mouthwash, lip moisturizer, and earplugs! Definitely needed the earplugs! The next morning, they brought a washcloth and then a breakfast tray. The food is fairly decent! They served lunch and a couple of hours later I was released. I felt the care was excellent! Before being released, my doctor checked in to make sure I was okay. Discharge instructions were very clear. Thank you all for your dedication and caring. My hats off to all of you! Your patience with all the screaming and yelling patients goes beyond your duties! Job well done! I heard and experienced it all!!!

Fantastic experience: This is regards to their maternity ward. My fiancé and I had our 2nd girl. We are originally from out of state and moved here three years ago, so this was our first experience having to go to the hospital in our area. From the time we arrived to the time we walked out, I don’t think our family has ever received so much care, love, and support from a hospital staff ever in our lives. The nurses assigned to us were on top of every little need down to retrieving the water for my spouse so I can stay in comfort her or help with the baby if needed. When my fiancé spoke.. she was almost never met with an attitude of ‘we get it, but you’re the patient and we know better.’ Everything she had to say, was taken into into account and often what she wished for came true. The nurses showed so much dedication and love. The genuine kind and caring spirit that is honest is the kind of support my fiancé needs. She’s shy.. reserved.. and timid sometimes. An open and loving staff, who wanted to do what they were doing was exactly what we needed. Usually the doctors receive little praise, while the nurses are the heroes… and in most cases, it was true with us as they were amazing .. however .. the drs definitely were a part of the positive experience. From the Dr who performed the procedure who is known to be a perfectionist and leaving very little scarring and being great at c secrions.. to the pediatricia who consulted us on our newborn and was kind and gentle and answered questions for as long as we wanted without making us feel he was busy and had somewhere else to be.. to the discharge Dr, who was the second doctor covering for my fiancé as the C-section was scheduled during her original OB/GYN vacation ..who sat and chatted with us for over an hour, giving us both much-needed medical advice( even with a 3 year old, we don’t know EVERYTHING.. and new information comes out all the time) and entertaining us with funny stories about his own experiences with his children. three of the main nurses and the pediatrician, roughly 100 years of medical experience between the four of them, each of them in this chosen field for over 20 years. It showed! Blown away.. can’t even begin to describe our depth of gratitude.

Negative experience: THE WORST. I gave Tri-City my Kaiser card at time of service, and they're in the Kaiser network, which meant the bill should have simply been processed in a timely manner, but instead their "business/billing department" failed, as in purposely refused to file the claim for over 3 years but instead they immediately put a lien of $14,000 on my good credit. I have just filed a lawsuit against both companies. DON'T TRUST THEM.

Negative experience: Outrageously expensive. I have been to ERs in at least half a dozen states for all sorts of situations with family members. This is the only place I've been too where they have a flat fee for triage/checking-in, ranging from $3500-$4500. I was kept in the waiting room the entire time aside from being taken into have an x-ray and blood work, then sent right back to the waiting room (for hours). And they billed over $6000 for that. If you have the option of going anywhere else, do it. Unfortunately that's probably not an option for most people in the area. Complete and utter price gouging and taking advantage of dire situations.

Fantastic experience: I went to the E.R. on Sunday. I was checked in fairly quickly and with great care by Gretel. Although my time in the waiting room was very long, I was taken to have tests done regularly. When the doctor decided to admit me to the hospital, I was told that there were no beds available upstairs, so I would be spending the night in a bed in the E.R. This is not an ideal situation, but my caregivers did everything they could to make it as normal as possible. My nurses (RN and LVN) and the E.R. techs were absolutely wonderful. They treated me with respect and were caring when I needed assistance. The doctors I saw listened to me and answered my questions. I thank you all for the care I received.

Fantastic experience: I had a radiologically guided injection into my sciatic joints at Tri City. These injections are nerve wracking and can be painful. I’ve had many similar procedures performed and they are not pleasant. Everyone at the hospital was so kind and caring, it blew me away. Thanks to the Radiologic team, the procedure was nearly painless, and they took great care of me mentally and physically. Cannot recommend highly enough, and I am experienced in this. Can’t thank my team enough ❣️❣️

Negative experience: I began experiencing severe symptoms akin to serotonin syndrome at 1030 in the morning on Monday. By the time I left work early and got home at 5, I was shaking, dizzy with muscle spasms, my entire face and body was numb. I had chest pains. I called Kaiser after hours and the nurse recommended I go to the ER immediately as my symptoms were very serious and needed to be taken care of. Checked in at 6:00. My entire face/neck was so numb and painfully tingly, it spread in that degree to my feet. I was in a wheelchair for the EIGHT HOURS I was there. I made sure to list all my symptoms and medications and pain levels(8-9) at check in. Got all my tests done within the first 1-2 hours, but heard NOTHING from the nurses or doctors until 1am the next day. The whole time, I was violently shaking and the numbing was getting worse with chest pains and difficulty breathing. No one reached out. Everyone was waiting for about 6 hours. We were supposed to get our vitals rechecked every 2 hours. No one came to do mine at ~12 until my partner asked them to. Finally seen, I relayed everything back to the doctor AGAIN and she told me it was just a panic attack from being in the ER which explained the blood pressure being high. They gave me one pill for muscle spasms, but it was made clear it was for anxiety. Another half hour later and we just left because my medical conditions were not being taken seriously. I left at nearly 2 in the morning, dehydrated, body sore, and face STILL numb.

Negative experience: They're very happy to take your money but then they'll keep you sitting for 4+ hours in the emergency room without allowing you to review the paperwork you paid for. Is this what I pay insurance for? It's 3am and they won't give me so much of a hint how long I'll be waiting to make sure my unborn child is not in danger.

Negative experience: Im sorry this is the absolute worst hospital i’ve ever been to. Went to the ER for severe stomach pains, took 7 HOURS for the to even get my testing done. Doctor was in such a rush when i got discharged he barely explained to me my diagnosis, and also gave me a prescription and didn’t even ask for my pharmacy?? I highly recommend going to the ER in Encinitas, way more professional and put your needs first.

Negative experience: Went to the ER for my son tonight and we were checked in promptly and the triage nurse was very nice. All downhill from there. After three hours without hearing a peep from anyone checking in on us, A COCKROACH crawled over my purse I kid you not. And when I told the nurses they were rude and condescending. Left without seeing a doctor. Will never step foot in this place again.

Negative experience: Horrible experience - going on 3 hours in the waiting room with a toddler. They claim they are short staffed but I see plenty of nurses just talking/laughing with each other rather than working. Horrible emergency room. Corporate will reach out and nothing will result from it. The entire staff needs to be overhauled and replaced

Fantastic experience: I have nothing but incredible things to say of the staff in the emergency room. Came in with stomach problems. Insane bloating, tons of pain, found out my appendix was wanting out. I wish I could remember all the staff members name. One was Jacqui and she was nothing short of extremely sweet and caring. Made me feel very comfortable in a time of despair. There was an Asian man who got me set up on IVs and he was great. Funny, made me throw my Crocs into sport mode All the nurses who helped in the surgical room were awesome, anesthesiologist and the others. Making jokes, made me feel comfortable before passing out. Awoke to a man giving me after procedure instructions and we talked about Warren Haynes. Cheers to this great staff!

Fantastic experience: My first son was born in this hospital. Staff were fantastic and I have very nice and warm memories about it! I was in lots of pain and had epidural, the staff were very supportive and lovely. Thank you, all even if it was quite a while now.

Negative experience: They did not call me when my mom had complications and coded out. I didn’t find out until hours after the fact when I phone to check on her. I asked to speak to my mom to which they made every excuse in the book. When my mom was having more complications later in the day, I asked the nurse to put the phone to my moms ear. The nurse went on talking about everything else but never let me speak to my mom. I asked the nurse to tell my mom that I love her and the nurse didn’t. After my mom passed, the nurse went on talking about how she stayed with my mom until the end and how my mom was a fighter. But she didn’t once let me speak to my mom or tell my mom I love her. The doctors were even worse. They didn’t call to inform me that my mom had passed. The anesthesiologist happened to phone me about something else and let it slip. When the doctor finally called, all he talked about was how hard he and his team worked on my mom and their accolades. He went on with condescending remarks asking if I understood basic words that he used to describe my mom’s condition. And as if this experience wasn’t bad enough, they kept sending me medical bills for my mom after they did what I feel ended her life. I regret letting my mom go to this so-called hospital. I regret not being able to go back and research hospitals before she needed medical care. I’ll never forget the what I feel was poor medical care and the lack of compassion. I would never recommend this place and I pray that your experiences don’t end up as life altering if you end up there. Please say a prayer for me that my heart will heal. Thank you! :-(

Negative experience: I went in last month with cardiac symptoms (ended up most likely a panic attack), I felt like i could barely breath and was about to faint, but they made me wear a mask. If i had enough energy and werewithall at the time i would have left to take my chances in making it to someplace else, at that moment. Then they make me mother wait outside when I needed an advocate because i was effectively incapacitated. And its not like they had my best interests in mind as they showed very little compassion, choosing to take my blood without even asking even though i cannot stand needles and was in a fully hysteric panic attack. Then they make me wait almost 3 hours with zero treatment of any kind. Until they finally brought me the lowest dose of a sedative possible, and no oxygen or any other intervention. Then promptly booted me out when i said i felt slightly better. I was glad to leave at that point, but not even a prescription for a small amount of whatever med they gave me so as soon as it wore off the following morning i was traumitized of having a recurrence of the attack and nothing to help me. I hope these people or there loved ones get treated the same way they treat others. I try to treat people with dignity and respect in my life and i dont work in a profession thats supossed to care for people on a very human level! Shame on them

Negative experience: Wish I could give this hospital ZERO stars! This is the most poorly staffed hospital I have ever seen! Came in after an emergency surgery with pain they were able to get my vitals and my ultrasound and blood work all done with in an hour. To wait 3 hours in pain and to have a nurse come in and say you will be waiting a minimum of 10 hours! They have people bleeding in the waiting room domestic fights happening in the waiting room bathroom and a strung out junky with no pants on sleeping in the waiting room to be woken up to leave and starts screaming and cussing. This place should feel safe and I can tell you I will never go here or take my loved ones here!

Negative experience: I went there in January 2016 for brain surgery, and I'm certain that the neurologist put a non-consensual invasive device in my brain, during the long procedure, I was under anesthesia of course, but wouldn't have seen him do it either way. I went there a couple months ago for chest pains and anxiety, and was put on suicide watch, and they took the chain and cross I had attached to it off from around my neck, against my will and remove my ring as well. Upon being discharged, I was giving my bags and emptied them out on the floor trying to find both of them. But unfortunately and surprisingly enough, to no avail. They hurried me out saying they needed the room, and when I got home I looked again and couldn't find it. I called them and security said they would check lost and found and call me back. They called me back saying they couldn't find it but they would look in the safe, as well. I had to call them back and they said no it was not in there either. They said I'd have to file a claim, but when I called the administrative office, they said that couldn't be done! It seems as though someone stole it from me, whether it was a nurse, or one of their security staff members! Both the necklace and the ring had sentimental value, so it hurts me and bothers me that so-called professionals would be that irresponsible or dishonest. Be careful if you choose to go to this Hospital, in more ways than one. I think there's a lot of hospital staff there that are evil in a Sly way, to say the least. Just totally unbelievable and unfathomable!

Negative experience: One star is too many. Do not have your children here. Nurses in the obstetric ward are disgusting. Neglected when you need them, bothered when you don't. I had my son here, and the nurse assigned to me was inhumane. Complete and utter disregard for any feelings, pain, etc... I had to come back 10 days later after hemorrhaging and a UTI because they thought I was allergic to latex and gave me two of the wrong kind of catheters. When I couldn't use the restroom on my own I was berated. When my son couldn't latch I was told to "grow up" and that "its time to be a mom". I still cry. I still go to therapy for the PTSD of my experience as a new mother beginning here. Don't go here. Do not have your children here. Just avoid this place like the plague it is.

Negative experience: It was ridiculous! I checked in and waited 3 hours and a half and never got checked up. Even after they checked me in i asked for something to help numb my throat while i was gonna be waiting and they didnt, 3 hrs later i asked again and they didnt. The lady then told me that the doctor was setting up the stuff or whatever for me and, a half an hour later was still not there so I left. I made it very clear at my check in that I was struggling on swallowing and that it hurt so bad i was spitting out my own spit and that i felt like my throat was closing in. I explained that i could barely talk and that my ears were hurting and popping from this experience and that the night before i had a 103F fever and the shivers and body aches and that i had a really bad sinus migrain.
