VA Oxnard Community-Based Outpatient Clinic: Reviews
Positive experience: Wife is retired Navy with a few service related health problems and we live in Port Hueneme. Beats driving down to LA bigtime!
Fantastic experience: Excellent
Negative experience: Came here back in 2015 because I was experiencing bad back problems from my job at the time. I came in, was examined and was told to take it easy with no medication being prescribed. I recently requested my medical records and just now discovered that I have severe degenerative disc problems but was never told in person 7 damn years ago. That bit of information seems like something one should be informed about but what do I know. SMH.
Negative experience: This location is closed!! Without warning, I drove over here, and the building is completely empty. The new location is inconveniently further away.
Negative experience: Can’t even get someone on the phone. Line is always busy
Negative experience: Not enough doctors, scheduling is often not accurate. All employees are contracted and not Veterans Administration employees . This makes a big difference in the level of csrrand services rendered.
Negative experience: After my visit I wondered why did I miss work! I literally came in for the Dr. to look at my blood work. Tell me I need to go back to Kiaser am left out the room. Did not ask me about any concerns I may have been having. I literally came in an told the nurse about my back issues. Dr. never brought it up. Just gave me a slip to give to the front to come back in a year. Not to this clinic I won’t! Complete waste of time!! I will drive an hour to LA next time. Thanks for nothing Oxnard VA!
Negative experience: They’ve cancelled 3 of my appointments without notifying me until I called to confirm dates. The last one was because my PCM no longer worked there and they didn’t contact me to reschedule with the new one. After rescheduling, the entire staff was rude, including the call center lady that does the scheduling. They seemed to not care and dismissed my issues. 1 seemed disgusted that I just recently got vaccinated. It was very awkward and I wanted to just cover some basic issues and then get out of there.
Negative experience: There always switching my appointment. Like today. I know they called me yesterday to confirm my appointment for today at 8:30 am. I get there at 8:15 and then they wait till 8:30 to tell me my appointment isn’t at 8:30 but is at 10:30am! Not the first time they did this. Alway switching my appointment around and then wonder why I can’t make them or get help I need! Thanks!
Negative experience: Our homeless Vietnam veteran friend is approved for housing at the VA home in Ventura but the horrible nurse in charge has held up his 2 step TB test for weeks. She is the absolute worst. From other reviews it sounds like she treats everyone this way. She should look for another line of work.
Negative experience: I had a horrible experience with a provider at the VA Oxnard clinic. She was rude and combative about everything. Staff does the least amount of work possible. They denied my fellow veteran friend treatment for PTSD and addiction. They never call you back and avoid helping you at all cost. The worst VA clinic I’ve ever dealt with.
Negative experience: Just called for COVID testing and the Nurse on the line was rude to me because I have my primary care at a different VA facility. She hung up the phone with me after yelling at me. Enjoy your congressional complaint.
Positive experience: After reading the many horrendous reviews for this CBOC, I was pretty nervous. But after seeing a community physician and being soundly disappointed, I decided to brave it anyway. What a happy surprise it was! I was treated with dignity and respect by every staff member I encountered, and although I did have to wait a fair bit for the doc (because he takes the extra time with patients, which I consider good, thank you), the place stayed open for me, and any of the staff still needed stayed as well. The only reason for knocking off a star is the difficulty in reaching the CBOC by phone and returning calls.. they are still being routed through the Greater LA VA Hospital call center, which is at least improving by not having a robot say that they are having high call volume and hanging up on you. Now they will offer to call you back if you choose. Still hinky, but better than a brick wall of robots!
Fantastic experience: They are following great on their protocol in covi19 very cautious might have to wait but it's fast and very knowledgeable
Fantastic experience: Since moving to Oxnard in 2006 I have always received the best care from the staff here. Today they were over the top in ensuring I received the TDap vaccine that I needed before the delivery of my Grand-daughter “Noodle”. I hope that all the staff here know that this Vet appreciates everything you do!
Negative experience: My first experience with the VA provider here after moving from out of state was horrific. The physician's bedside manner was worse than the DMV! She keeps complaining that I didn't provide my outside medical records and that my health history is extensive and vague. Keep in mind that I have been service connected and treated by the VA since 2001. All of my records up until my last physical six month ago so have been in the VA database. She kept denanding more detailed diagnoses from me that should have easily been available for her through the VA network. She accused me of just using the VA to get my medication for free when I had to wait six months for this appointment and had to see outside providers which I paid for out of my pocket. I am a 100% service connected and was treated like a drug addict at a free clinic. Although I have outside insurance, I utilize the VA when necessary to provide care for issues related to my service connected disability. This doctor was insulting, disrespectful and showed no sense of service to those who have sacraficed and acted as if I was begging for handouts. This is all too frequent when dealing with the VA. Poor treatment on the inside while on the outside pretending that Veterans are the #1 priority. They talk down to us and use condescending language as if we aren't smart enough to pick up on their offensive and unpleasant demeanor. Not all Veterans are homeless or degenerates on skid row, some of us are college educated and have successful second careers that afford us the opportunity to have multiple options when it comes to health care. The VA is always and will forever be last when I choose treatment. I am debating on whether or not I will go back in one year when I'm scheduled for a follow up. No one who served thier country should be treated as if their medical or emotional care is an inconvenience or an after thought. Be forewarned if you seek treatment at this facility that the associate staff are great people, however, individuals who will be making decisions regarding your wellness do not have your best interest in mind or at heart. As a honorably discharged veteran who served the US military on active duty and as a civilian for over 20+ years, I walked out of that appointment feeling worse than when I went in. No one deserves that, especially not our veterans.
Fantastic experience: Very professional medical attention, but the automated phone system routed through the”Greater West LA VA” system is terrible..
Fantastic experience: They treat me well
Negative experience: Good luck getting an appointment less than three months out. Then to have them call you a couple days before your appointment to have them reschedule you another three months out. Keeping to their schedules is an honest joke.
Negative experience: First I would like to say that the receptionist staff has always been wonderful!!!! I would like to ask everyone to boycott services at this VA facility if at all possible!!!! This facility does not allow these veterans who fought for our rights, sacrificed LIFE AND LIMB ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMALS!!!! THIS IS A COMPLETE DISCRIMINATION TO VETERANS AND THE RIGHTS THEY FOUGHT TO PROTECT!!!!! PLEASE DO NOT LET THESE VETERANS BE TREATED LIKE THIRD CLASS CITIZENS!!!!!!!
Negative experience: Constant problems with the staff and doctors at this facility. . Appointments difficult to get. Often waiting months to get an appointment. Receptionist are uniformed and not helpful at all. Recently waited a month to get an appointment for my blind 83 year uncle, took the day off to get him to his appointment only to find out they canceled it with no call or notification. It’s beyond frustrating to deal with this facility. We will no longer take our uncle there.
Positive experience: The staff is nice and my husband didn't have to wait long for his appointment but the waiting room and the bathrooms really need to be cleaned. It smelled horrible and looked messy, please bleach down the place!
Positive experience: My only concern is that there is no way to speak to a person. The automated system sucks. Please, have a functioning service where we may speak to someone regarding appointments.
Fantastic experience: They R-O-C-K my WORLD!!!
