Fantastic experience: Ashley Dintaman, PTA. I have had several in-pool therapy sessions with Ashley and am prompted to share my views. Ashley is an outstanding professional. She deserves a five-star rating just based on the professionalism demonstrated in her practice. But she is notably distinguished beyond her professionalism: Her friendly smile and manner motivates you and encourages you perform as best you can. She is a true gift to the profession.

Negative experience: They don't know how to use an online contact form. I have tried contacting them several times and they either don't respond or they say call us back. I would call if I had an infinite amount of time during the day that didn't disrupt my job.

Fantastic experience: My doctor recommended Ms. Preeti Verma, a Vestibular Specialist at Sheltering Arms, for treatment of some rather difficult vertigo. I cannot say enough good things about her. She is extremely knowledgeable, responsive to the patient, caring, and genuine. She helped me immensely. I have already recommended her to others. What a great representative of Sheltering Arms' well-known fine reputation.

Negative experience: I was referred to Sheltering Arms for Aquatic therapy as suggested by my other PT. I am having spine issues and it hurts to stand up for more than 3 min. I suspect I am not the only one who goes there with this problem or other orthopedic issues. The check in and front desk are not well arranged for people with orthopedic issues. There are no chairs in front of the ladies in check in and it seems they are not there to help you. They want you to check in using the kiosk. The kiosk has no table next to it where you can put your purse so you can get your insurance cards out to scan. Also no place to sit in front of the kiosk while you are going thru a very long list of questions and inputs. In my condition, I had extreme back pain by the end and almost could not stand. The ladies at the front desk did not offer to help although there were no other patients that needed their attention. I complained to the PT that evaluated me but she said many other patients had complained about the same thing but administration refused to change anything. I think this is no way to treat patients, most of whom have orthopedic issues or are disabled in some way, otherwise they would not need PT.

Positive experience: Several appointments of mine were inexplicably canceled. When I showed up for one, my pending appointment was picked up (immediately) by another Therapist, who did a great job. And, my future appointments were satisfactorily rescheduled on the spot. Your folks made lemonade out of lemons. Thanks for the joint (no pun intended) effort.

Fantastic experience: Niki Johnson is the best! After seeing her for about a year before Covid, I have been most fortunate to have her continue to work with me 2/week via zoom. She keeps me moving and thinking positively! 5 stars aren't enough.

Fantastic experience: I started the ‘Power X’ program working with Niki the beginning January and I look forward to continuing my recovery with her help. After strokes and a broken leg I needed strengthen my legs, arms, and core. Additionally, I have poor balance and mobility problems. Thanks to Niki’s work I am stronger and more confident, and I am almost climbing the stairs! She challenges me and comes up with new ways to make me “walk like a normal person (my words not hers)”.

Fantastic experience: Ashley is great!!!! She constantly checks on your welfare. She makes sure the workout is tailored to your needs. She also makes sure that you're properly doing your workout the correct way during your session and at home. She always offers good advice.

Fantastic experience: My wife has Zoom physical therapy sessions with Niki Johnson twice a week. I can tell that she is able to move much better after each session, and Niki has developed a very effective regimen for her..

Fantastic experience: I was a rehab patient January 5, 2021, through January 25, 2021, at the Sheltering Arms Institute, Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation Hospital, 2000 Wilkes Ridge Drive, Richmond, VA 23233. During my time there the staff was exceptional.

Fantastic experience: There is no place in Richmond that compares to SAH, and after having family helped multiple times over the years at Sheltering Arms you assume a certain level of care while you are in patient therapy. When we had a new situation and SAH was full and not able to take my husband, we were told this other place was the same and it was not! They not only lacked the equipment they lacked any creative approach to physical therapy sessions and therapists would leave patients sitting in wheel chairs for "long rest" periods. It was heartbreaking.

Fantastic experience: Sheltering Arms is a physical therapy site that has a qualified, supportive and friendly atmosphere. The therapists work with you as a team (you have to do the work, though). I attended the W. Broad facility and the therapists work really hard to help you strengthen and gain confidence

Negative experience: Been a patient for over 7 years and always found them to be of excellent care and service. I returned recently and was verbally accosted by the receptionist. Called to resolve issue and was HUNG UP ON - trying to resolve issue still. Super appreciate of efforts made by director of quality to resolve - others have fallen way short of the mark. Hoping standards for employees are raised and enforced.

Fantastic experience: Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Centers is a fantastic facility and the staff is AWESOME!!! I attend the Reynolds location. The staff at the front desk is warm and attentive. They obviously care about their patients. Mr. Matthew Wren, the Physical Therapist is both knowledgeable and professional. In addition to those attributes, the Physical Therapist Assistant, Ms. Ashley Dintaman, is friendly and compassionate. It is obvious to me that Ashley feels that her actions and activities reflect more than just her “doing a job”. Case in point: I have had body image issues throughout the years that have been difficult to overcome. However, with Ashley, I feel comfortable, safe, and I am motivated to always do my very best. She has a well-rounded personality; she is encouraging, but not overly “pushy”. My tenure as a patient in their Aquatics Physical Therapy Program has been a 100% positive experience for me. I actually look forward to each session, with continued zeal and excitement. I am deeply grateful that I was recommended for the services of Sheltering Arms Aquatics Physical Therapy. To sum-up my opinion of the staff in two words: THEY CARE. Thank you!!!

Fantastic experience: Sheltering arms is an amazing place! The personal trainer Nikki Johnson has been such an encouraging and knowledgeable piece in my husband's recovery!!!!!!! We have never come to shelter arms and been discouraged. Even when my husband wasn't in the best of spirit, Nikki had the knack to get him up and moving! She has helped us learn techniques that can be used both in the facility and at home. Nikki is observant and caring and one of the best part of sheltering arms!

Fantastic experience: I spent a few months rehabilitating from a hip replacement with the physical therapist. It was wonderful. Now I am in their Power X program. Niki Johnson is my exercise physiologist. She has been showing me ways to strengthen my weak areas due to moderate arthritis and many replacements. I am so motivated and feel able to continue and get stronger with strength training. Niki is wonderful, and I am very aware of her abilities because she helps train the clients where my son goes at Club Rec. Thank you, Sheltering Arms!

Fantastic experience: I recently completed the 12-week PowerEx program and I would recommend it highly to anyone interested in being able to exercise safely and effectively while taking into account any chronic orthopedic issues. Niki Johnson was my assigned exercise physiologist and she was fully invested in helping me realize my exercise goals. She came up with a creative program that was tailored to my needs, and then she developed workouts that I could take back to the gym. In addition, she was a delight to work with. This program was exactly what I was looking for and I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.

Fantastic experience: Ashley does a great job with Aqua therapy. She guides patients with excellent professionalism. She really pays attention to what they are doing. She has a very positive attitude and I really enjoyed our sessions. I highly recommend her work.

Negative experience: While I am very thankful to have my PT at Sheltering Arms the billing department leaves a lot to be desired. I have open access for PT and was not made aware that Sheltering Arms is considered an outpatient hospital. So besides my high copay I also have to pay 80% of the fees. Do your homework as they will not inform you of this until the bills start coming in months later after you’ve had many appointments..

Negative experience: I had a 9:15 am appointment. All I was told about COVID-19 procedures when I made it was that I must wear a mask and phone the main SAH number when I arrived. A robot called thereafter and left a message that I had to arrive early to do paperwork. I arrived at 8:40, phoned the main number and was advised that I'd be called from inside to be admitted. I sat in my car waiting for the call and watching other patients go in and out until 9:20 am, then cancelled the appointment. Long ago I waited in a doctor's office for an hour beyond the scheduled appointment time after I'd arrived early at his request. He didn't get my business, just a ration of ____ for running such an incompetent, discourteous operation. I didn't bother to stay to give SAH the same thing; I'd already wasted enough time..

Negative experience: I had my MRI done three weeks ago. Dr. Jones has had my results within 24 hours of the MRI. i have called his office every other day for three weeks trying to get the results....still have not heard from him.

Fantastic experience: I love the staff at sheltering arms they really treated me like family not just a patient. My therapist Kim I am eternally grateful for her I couldn't walk or even stand. Words cannot express how much I love an appreciate you. Thanks for everything.
