Fantastic experience: My uncle was sent to this facility in September of 2024 following an extended hospitalization. The staff were wonderful and my elderly uncle was happy with the care he received. I attended his weekly team care assessment and all of the staff on his care team were knowledgeable and kind. He was pleased with the food and that can be a challenge with someone that is not feeling well and in discomfort. The PT worked with my uncle and got him where he needed to be for discharge to his nursing facility. I would recommend this facility to anyone looking for a rehab facility. Thank you

Fantastic experience: Absolutely a top rated facility. The staff is amazing. Always positive and helpful even when I can tell they're burdened with lots of work. Many of the employees are navigating second jobs or going to school to advance their careers. It is rare for my call bell not to be answered immediately. Physical therapy does an amazing job. OT is very good with helping me learn how to navigate my personal care. They often have very helpful hints to relieve stress as you may encounter as you navigate your disability. I can't say enough positive things about the food here. The food is better than I've had at many restaurants. Quite frankly I hate to be discharged because I miss the food so much lol. I have also had positive experiences with sheltering arms but I picked this facility due to its closeness to family. So far I have been admitted to this facility four times. I have never been disappointed or upset like I have been at a couple of other places I have unfortunately picked early on years ago. I will not tell you about these facilities except I will mention that one of them is located on Parham Road. The nursing staff was quite bad when I was admitted years ago and I actually left early. When viewing any negative results for this facility please check that the person is having the same problem that you are being admitted for at the time. I cannot imagine going to another place for my rehab and care I also want to mention that in the older rooms ,which are very attractive and roomy have better heating. I get very cold and I very much enjoy being able to turn the heat up to a very comfortable 76. It is my understanding in the newer remodeled rooms You do not have this feature.

Negative experience: The nurses, technicians and therapists are kind. However case managers leave a lot to be desired. We were improperly informed about discharge, despite being onsite all week. If you can’t speak up, the case managers will bully you. Ask Alexis at Encompass-that’s what she tried with me and another case manager interrupted our conversation. Trust everyone but case managers here.

Fantastic experience: Our family is so grateful to Encompass Care and all the people who took such compassionate & meticulous care of my husband, Bill. I truly appreciate the guidance Dr. Robbins gave to help us adjust to Bill's rapidly changing condition caused by his illness. His gifted therapists, Madeline, Stephanie & Allie encouraged & assisted him to do all that was possible. They respected him as a person and allowed him to make decisions about his care. The nursing staff & their assistants were readily available when needed & checked in with us to see if we needed help. The pharmacist & dietitian were always readily available & would assist us in any way we needed. We appreciate all of the wonderful care; Encompass treated Bill as one of their own, as a member of their family.

Negative experience: Very disappointing that this is an acute rehabilitation… Due to my bad choice in insurance I was denied an extension of stay due to feeling unsafe to return home… It seemed like I was rushed out… The therapist were great and wouldn’t change them for anything but some of the nursing staff were very unprofessional, the call bells would go off forever with them sitting outside the door and it’s sad they want the money but don’t want to do the job… For me being a professional Med tech/CNA I know how people should conduct themselves in this environment. Anything is the food was ok better than most places… Sadly when you don’t want to throw people under the bus, this is the type of behavior that brings down the value of the establishment…. Kudos to Will in PT and Maddie in OT thanks for all your help…. Overall pleasant stay….

Fantastic experience: Beautiful caring team , a great healing place , I thank god for them being there everyone was good to me and my family.. all the way to my discharge day from the time I got there til I got in my car to Leave was complete care education,& love 5 star therapy I fell in love with them those amazing… I have and always will have only good things to say about them

Fantastic experience: My dad was here to rehab. His dietary peculiarities made him not like the food always. The CEO stopped by his room and my dad voiced his concern. The CEO sent the manager the next day to speak with dad, and they were responsive and made the changes. The staff has always been helpful and friendly. We’ve spent a lot of time here with my dad so we’ve had chances to talk to them and see them work. I was concerned with my dad coming here, but I have been very satisfied.

Fantastic experience: My partner was a patient at this facility for approximately 2 weeks. He had multiple health issues, and the staff accommodated every one of them. All the nurses, trainers, and staff were kind, patient, and caring. The quality of the food was excellent and the accommodations were comfortable. The smaller size of this facility makes the experience more personal, which is valuable for healing!

Fantastic experience: All care givers involved were excellent. Case Mgr. Morgan, PT Morgan and Dr. Dena led a great Nursing, Physical and Occupational Therapy Team to aid in recovery from a bad fall that required major surgery to a shattered left femur.

Positive experience: Overall my stay was beneficial. Techs were a little lagging in washing me daily, some of the nurse trainees were a little rough in handling me but the PT's, OT's, and nurses were very attentive.

Negative experience: If you are considering this rehab facility for yourself or your loved one, and the patient has either trouble communicating or advocating for themselves, this may not be the right choice. For that to be the case considering the purpose of a place like this, that’s supposed to provide rehabilitation care for patients who’ve suffered strokes or brain injuries, who could of course have communication challenges… It’s truly a shame. It is virtually impossible to speak to anyone at this facility, patient or otherwise, if you’re not physically there. Our relative suffered from memory problems, confusion, and anxiety. We were rarely ever able to check in on how he was doing or speak to him unless we came in to visit. While there were techs, nurses, therapists and other staff members who did go beyond the bare minimum to care for him and keep us informed, there were such careless and critical failures in our relative’s care, that the overall impression of this facility is frustratingly poor. The facilities themselves are nice, which is great. And it’s very near an actual hospital, which is a good thing, too, if your loved one has an accident or gets sicker while they’re here, as ours did. Our relative had a serious safety incident at Encompass. He fell and hit his head, was bleeding a lot and had to be taken around the corner to the ER for imaging, evaluation, and possibly to put staples in his head. The problem with this place is ultimately its leadership. They could use a thorough evaluation from top to bottom - of their leadership skills, practices, and culture. I question the norms they are setting for their teams and as an organization. Despite being connected with the CEO, CNO, etc., we the family were never given a clear explanation of the incident. To our knowledge, no internal review was conducted nor report made. All we know is what we already knew before the fall - that 2 staff members were notified and confirmed that his chair alarm needed to be reactivated at the end of one our visits. 30-45 minutes later he fell. Filling in the blanks, that alarm was never reset, so he either slipped out of the chair completely or tried to get up without assistance and there was no alarm on to alert staff. And the patient didn’t remember because of the aforementioned memory issues, confusion, and well… head trauma. After the fact, there was zero accountability, little follow up other than the call to let us know he was being sent to the ER, and a considerable lack of assurance that steps would be taken to prevent this from happening again for our patient, let alone others. What’s worse is that I know the staff knew more about the situation than we did and they, too, felt awful that this happened to one of their patients. They knew who was present and witness to at least some of the event - but it’s not their responsibility to investigate, communicate, or take corrective action - its leadership’s. Encompass of Richmond’s leadership failed to do that, in our relative’s case. I can say for certain that my relative left Encompass in a worse condition than when he entered it. Unfortunately, I believe that was preventable.

Fantastic experience: Emcompass is the BEST..my brother was there,not only did they treat him for an urniary tract infection,,they step up to making sure my Brother got the BEST care from PT,OT&case mgr…I would choose them over & over again..TEAMWORK is the BEST OUTCOME.

Fantastic experience: Encompass was absolutely amazing. The nurses, the PTs and the overall staff were very caring, thoughtful and professional. I especially appreciate the chef tailor making a diet especially for me. The food was so good I didn’t want to leave. My rehabilitation was a success thanks to Encompass.

Fantastic experience: This facility is superior to any medical facility I have been treated at. The staff treat you as if you are their only patient. The food is fabulous as well as the chef who provides personal attention to patients relative to their dietary needs. It amazed me at how caring the doctors and Medical Director were. Highly recommend Encompass Health Rehab Hospital. As Tina Turner sang, “Better than all the rest”

Fantastic experience: The facility was very clean, and I’ve experienced several facilities. The staff was wonderful and caring, especially, Will, PT, Corinne, OT, Tara & Allie, SLP, Jennifer, nursing, Shay, PCT, Dr Wyatt & Dr Robbins. We had a great rehab experience and felt very prepared to return home. Everyone was outstanding!

Positive experience: Extremely improved since my previous stay. All private rooms . I was sent there post urologic surgery. I was also recovering from a broken leg. They took the limitations of both surgeries to customize my therapy. Although my stay was short their facility was much improved and their therapists well trained and knowledgeable. I would return if necessary.

Negative experience: Case manager Gina literally gave up halfway through a call to set an appt for her patient. Was asked simple questions like “which location?” and “what kind of appointment?” She said nevermind, that she would just make the patient’s family do it. I may be mistaken, but isn’t that her job as a case manager? To coordinate this sort of thing and assist the patient? Not give up halfway over routine questions?

Fantastic experience: Both of my parents spent some time here and I thought the care they received was outstanding. The staff is friendly and helpful and I felt like my parents were in great hands while there. My Dad's doctor went the extra mile helping me get some additional care at home after discharge.

Negative experience: My friend was at this facility and had 2 pair of shorts stolen from her.When you steal from sick disabled people. You got it coming

Negative experience: If I could give a 0 rating for this facility I would. My mother was here for rehabilitation after a back fusion and the care she received was borderline abusive. The facility refused to assist in any walking that her surgeon directed post surgery to assist in her rehabilitation. They also continued to provide food that was contaminated with her allergens; after being made aware of her allergies, she was served food she was allergic to at least three times. We tried to complain in the facility and there was zero management that would make any changes.

Positive experience: Inpatient occupational and physical therapy. Nice, clean facility. Adequate parking. Not sure whether there is a handicap entrance but definitely one for stretcher parients. Total of 40 beds. Limited choice for meals but food is generally pretty good. You will be assigned a case manager upon arrival and to a therapy "team," The team will meet with you in your room to discuss your progress and next weeks plan. Your family is encouraged to attend (but if desired can participate by phone) Family is invited to watch your therapy. Visiting hours: 10 am - 8 pm. Cafeteria on site open to family. Excellent nursing care. Each morning you will get a printed schedule containing your schedule for the day. It looks like they want to get you discharged ASAP but that may be caused by what insurance covers. They will set your tentative discharge date shortly after you arrive. Patient app available to watch your satus and progress and is shareable with others. A number of online videos on their website showing/explaining everything.

Fantastic experience: I honestly cannot say enough good things about our experience with Encompass Rehab Hospital. My husband had been through the ringer with a hospitalization, a skilled nursing facility that put him back in the hospital a second time due to neglect, and then Encompass Rehab completely prepared him to come home in 12 days, with excellent wound care, which is tricky. A huge thank you to the entire staff. Very attentive and caring. Bravo!

Fantastic experience: I was here for eleven days after a ten day stay in the hospital. I would recommend this rehab facility very highly. The staff is great. The food is very good. The doctors are highly recommended especially Doctor Robin who was my main doctor. She is very knowledgeable and very compassionate, she took the time to helped me a lot. The therapy department is very well staffed. They are knowledgeable, compassionate and got me back on my feet in just 11 days. I give a special thanks to a PT therapis Natalie. She worked me very hard which got me ready to go home.She is a wonderful person very compassionate and she knows what she s doing. I would want her again if I ever needed their services again.

Negative experience: Way understaffed and you can tell with nursing running around and not giving you the attention needed

Fantastic experience: I spent 10 days here preparing to go home after spinal surgery. The one attention by their PT and OT staff was excellent. Am home now and can take care of myself while doing 6 weeks of outpatient PT locally. Being a smaller Rehab center you get great one on one attention. My room was clean and comfortable. The nurses were professional and well trained. By the way, the food was excellent and beautifully presented.

Negative experience: My family member was discharged because of a denial by Medicaid. She was literally told of her discharge and discharged THE SAME DAY. Typically in this type of facility there are events that must occur prior to discharge. (Having previously worked in rehab as a nurse and unit manager I KNOW THIS) When I went into the facility today to ask questions there was NO ONE willing to speak to me in person and NO ONE willing to answer the phone or return calls. Funny coincidence though they received multiple private insurance admissions today According to a staff member)...time to call the state since no one there will respond. Encompass DONT BOTHER WITH THE AUTOMATED WE ARE SORRY RESPONSE.... WE ARE BEYOND THAT....

Negative experience: Do NOT allow your family member to stay here. They released my father with NO adaptive mobility equipment, NO home health care lined up, AND no accountability for it. If I get anything at all it's just a "well the VA said". It is beyond ludicrous. He should never have been released from their care in the condition he is in, without a full plan of care ready to go. Shame on these people, it really is all about the money. Update- after calling the VA to find out what the problem was, Encompass released my father, who cannot walk on his own and has severe vision problems, on the 21st, but did not file anything for his home health care with the VA until the 25th. And even then it was not complete. So their negligence made him go without skilled care he desperately needs for over a week now. Disgraceful.

Fantastic experience: Patients experience an atmosphere and environment that promotes intense rehabilitation in order for them to return to baseline or as close to baseline as possible. The nursing staff is very compassionate and strive to provide high quality evidence based nursing care to each patient every day. If your loved one is in need of physical rehabilitation, I highly recommend Encompass Health of Richmond.

Fantastic experience: My father was recently in this rehab facility for 10 days. He was very pleased with the level of care he received. He frequently commented on how great the staff members treated him and he absolutely loved the food there! He was fortunate to be placed in a private room which was very bright and spacious! The doctors, nurses, PT and OT staff, food service staff were ALL AMAZING! Together they made this a positive experience for our family.

Negative experience: My husband had been placed in Richmond rehab center The service was the worst place.i had seen.

Fantastic experience: I was in hospitals for 3 months. Went to Encompass and could not stand. Two weeks later I'm walking with my cane, just like before. The staffing was absolutely wonderful. I was sent home with all the supplies I needed until home health nurse come. And the food was awesome, baked fish, lasagna, chicken soup, just to name a few.

Fantastic experience: I spent time @ Healthsouth in late summer 2017. The facility is very nice & the rooms large. When I arrived the staff were welcoming & explained the facility program. Each client is assigned a specific team of multidisciplinary professionals to work with & manage the client's progress. Nursing care was very good. The OT & PT therapists work to each clients needs and level of ability to particpate. The meals are yummy too. My healthcare team were very knowledgeable and caring. They were Excellent. I am very appreciative of the excellnt care I received. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HEALTHSOUTH for short term intensive inpatient rehab.

Negative experience: I HAVE NOT YET HAD THE EXPERIENCE OF BEING A PATIENT AT THIS FACILITY AND I MUST SAY THAT I HOPE I NEVER WILL. I HAVE BEEN CALLING FOR ONE MONTH NOW TO TRY AND ARRANGE SOME TREATMENT FOR MY MOTHER. I HAVE LEFT MULTIPLE MESSAGES AND HAVE EVEN GONE AS FAR AS TO CALL ADMINISTRATION AND EXPLAIN MY FRUSTRATION AND CONTINUE TO GET NO RESPONSE FROM ANYONE. I AM A HEALTHCARE PROVIDER AND NEVER IN MY 30 YEAR CAREER HAVE I EXPERIENCED SUCH UNPROFESSIONALISM. THE ADMINISTRATORS OF THIS FACILITY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES.
