Fantastic experience: Staff is very friendly, very helpful, and very responsive. Family members are welcome and are encouraged to attend therapy sessions. Therapists are skillful and enthusiastic. I highly recommend this hospital!

Fantastic experience: We Love the Nursing staff, and Doctors. everyone we worked with were kind, Patient, and helpful. Family / activity room was nice and inviting. only down side food options for the family member that was there for support were in the main hospital except for lunch that little stand was understaffed and the worker was very rude, but hey I understand stress and strain of being understaffed in a busy location.

Fantastic experience: I saw Suzanne and another provider in the wheelchair mobility clinic. Unfortunately, they were not able to fit me to a wheelchair due to my volatile spinal condition, but they were very patient and eager to educated about my condition to help me to the best of their abilities. They are very caring and empathetic people and godsend providers for the disability community here. I would recommend anyone to their practice any day.

Negative experience: Multiple month wait just to miss my appointment because I was given zero details. Including the detail that there’s literally no parking. There apparently a required valet service but how was I supposed to know about that? Incredibly disappointed with the U overall. Go somewhere else if you don’t want to wait multiple months just to not be seen because they can’t reserve a single parking spot for patients.

Fantastic experience: Everyone is really caring and compassionate and super nice. They want you to be as comfortable as possible and are willing to do whatever it takes to help you(: Dekyi, Veronica and Shauna, in particular, were super sweet and extremely patient and did everything they could to help make me extremely comfortable!! I also have an amazing view from my room ✨️

Negative experience: We were assured external rehab for our paralyzed loved one, through their spinal cord funding in great lengths, only to be told once he discharged that we knew he didn’t qualify.

Negative experience: My experience here has not been good. I My mother has had a stroke but also has a spinal cord injury and is in severe pain a lot of time especially at night. I feel that the care team did not give me the full picture of how bad she was at night. I learned this only when she transferred to another skilled nursing.Center where she cries in agony all night and they will give her no pain meds because university of utah did not prescribe them in her leaving documents. The palliative care team kept telling me how they would help her have a good quality of life but gave me no options or told me how to do this. And now I probably can't get ahold of them.I do need some help.Because she is in pain all night. I had only one nurse.Tell me that she was in pain all night.Crying and did have had no quality of life. All the others would tell me she sleeps off and on and she had an o k night. I don't know. How to help my mom and I am at my wits.End.

Fantastic experience: The food cafe is a hidden gem. Excellent quality, they got a legit chef working here. Good prices too. They have a different special each day. I don’t even ask what it is. I haven’t eaten the same thing twice and it’s been excellent every time.

Fantastic experience: Our adult son was transferred to the Nielsen Center in August 2021, after 7 weeks at the University of Utah Hospital. He arrived at the U by Life Flight on the evening of June 29, in extreme critical condition caused by an impaired driver on I-15 in Kaysville. We have nothing but praise for Dr. Benjamin Ingraham and his amazing staff of therapists, nurses, ( including Parker, Alexis, and many others), and technicians. The administrative and support staff were the first people we met upon our arrival from California. We were greeted by friendly, caring, and empathetic people who extol the definition of professionalism. Our anxious and aching hearts were overwhelmed by the appearance of the facility, particularly the private patient rooms and the reflection area. Our son was on the fourth floor, next to the reflection room. The state of the art furnishings for both patient and visitors calmed our hearts and the impressive medical equipment instilled confidence and hope for a good recovery. And the expansive windows provided a beautiful view of the Wasatch Mts and the Salt Lake Valley. The therapy rooms were impressive, and we enjoyed watching and participating in our son’s therapy sessions whenever possible. Tyler, Nate, Casey, and his student, Hannah, were such professionals, and provided skilled care and encouragement for our son. We had nothing but confidence, which was well placed, that our son was getting the best care possible for his Traumatic Brain Injury. Our TBI educator was a gem, who skillfully educated us with simple yet deeply informative diagram and explanations. Thank you, Liz F. We were very sad when the day came for our son to leave for his skilled nursing facility. But happy that he would continue to be under the care of Dr. Ingraham during his time in Utah. The Nielsen Rehabilitation was a blessing. Our hearts remain ever grateful to the staff of Nielsen Rehabilitation Center.

Fantastic experience: Rehab is much more than PT, OT, and other therapies. It is about healing from the inside out, nutrition, friendship, beauty and peace. My stay here was all this and more—an exceptional place that I cannot recommend more highly. I will forever consider my stay to be one of my greatest blessings. Thank you with great love, respect, and gratitude. You’re the best.

Negative experience: Traffic is terrible, you have to walk a mile if they are out of valet parking. Have to park so far away, and it's a really bad walk if the weather is not good conditions

Fantastic experience: My wife suffered a heart attack and was gone for six minutes. After resuscitation and recovery she was transferred to Nielsen rehabilitation hospital. The incredible staff cared for her for 4 weeks and her advances are amazing. I can’t say enough about the caring professionals and state of the art facility.

Fantastic experience: My son arrived to the UU in a minimally conscious state after surviving a severe TBI. From day one, his team of therapists and medical professionals showed us compassion, kindness and treated Kyle with integrity and care. We spent about 2 months there and the staff soon became like family. HIs physiatrist, Dr. Ingraham met with our son (and us) on a regular basis, always addressed our concerns, answered our questions and most importantly made sure our son was heard, his progress and health were the top priority, and he was treated with dignity. Our son began his therapy program immediately and made incredible progress in his time there. We adored his medical therapy: Dr. Ingraham, Devyn, Shannon, Jenna, Tyler, Coco, Derek, and so many more. They challenged and pushed our son, but never beyond his limitations. They were caring and tried to find ways to motivate and encourage our son in ways that were age appropriate and centered on his needs and interests. His nursing team, which included his nurses, aides and others - they were the foundation for making our stay at UU incredible. We grew to have many many favorites, as they were all so well trained and caring. Our son was treated with respect, and they always were concerned for his well being and any pain management and safety. While there were a lot of different people on this team in our time there, they all did their best to get to know us and our son, and again, make sure to individualize his care as much as possible. The administrative team made sure our needs were met, our questions were answered and we felt heard. Additionally the facility itself is incredible. The building sits at the top of the campus and is beautifully landscaped, offering a lovely place to be outdoors. Everything in his room and in the hospital was state of the art and kept exceptionally clean (and the sanitation and cleaning staff was also so very kind and helpful!). The therapy gyms offered everything you could ask for and there were also multiple areas for teaching life skills and accessibility options - all that were top of the line. If we didn't have what my son needed, the staff worked tirelessly to get it and assure his needs were always met. His room was quite large, with ample storage for his things, and comfortable chairs and a couch for us. They encouraged us to personalize his room with photos and mementos from home, and each new staff person also made sure to look at pictures to get to know our so. The meals offered to him were tasty and a nice variety. Additionally there was a cafeteria nearby with a wide selection for us, and a kitchen on his floor that allowed for bringing in your own food. Overall our experience was excellent. Our son's progress was amazing in his time there, but not without some health challenges. However, any challenge he encountered was dealt with quickly, thoroughly and with the utmost care. If there were any suggestions I would have, it would be to offer some type of tour or orientation guide/map upon arrival, along with having a resource library. To be fair, we did arrive on a holiday weekend and may have just not had someone available to give a tour/orientation. Over our two months there, we did become quite familiar with most all areas within the hospital and staff were always willing to help direct us as needed. A resource library with books on brain injuries would be a great addition; however, with Covid, that may not be an option.

Fantastic experience: I would not stop to write a review for many doctors I’ve seen in my lifetime except maybe to warn people off their ego, intensity, invalidation, lack of listening skills, mysoginy, and belittling behavior… and yet I still haven’t done that. I haven’t had a lot of good doctors. So I have to tell you about some of the members of the team here, who are the kind of service providers and clinicians you can trust — actually. If you have been facing the challenge of trying to chase down important and crucial information and feel like you’ve been on your own whenever you approach medical administration — ask for Deanne (I’m not positive on spelling, sorry!). I had spent 40 minutes back and forth between clinics for an issue related to my complex chronic illnesses, and every issue and answer I needed, Deanne had almost immediately! And went above and beyond by referring me to a provider and clinic that has expertise in the area of treatment I need and have been seeking. I also have worked with Dr. Greene and one of the PTs, Brad. Wish I could give you Brad’s last name, too. He’s a huge help and a joy to work with and ensures that Dr. Greene and others got through their work while he made sure the t’s were crossed and I’s dotted. I’ll be following up with them again for my needs and for their expertise and wonderful bedside manner. Dr. Greene not only spent a good amount of time to make sure I had resources available to me other than just my medications, and was personable and supportive — on hearing my disability stopped me from the possibility of being a doc myself, he cheered me on heartily and ensured I would add so much value to the system in need of practitioners like me. Both he and Brad make a long, painful road to rare diagnoses end on a note of marked relief. I’ve had so many bad experiences with being invalidated by docs that I’ve been left with medical trauma that led to avoidance and anxiety about my own health team and plans. This team makes me feel confident going back, and has been the backbone of the full team I’m building for my further/complete diagnosis, treatment, and management. The only down side? The U of U didn’t support the EDS clinic where I first met these members of the team (and others, like the amazing Dr. Pace). If you have some eggs or tomatoes to lob, find the people who decided a program with a 3 year waitlist and insanely intelligent, kind, and capable non-system geneticist collaborator, some do the most talented and still most socially and culturally competent docs with the best side manner — should *shut down.* Other than that poor administrative choice from the University — my experience with the clinicians I know here have been so good that they’re now a key to healing medical trauma, and someone in scheduling and admin who is so kind and goes the extra mile.

Fantastic experience: I love these guys! I had a stroke in 2017 and should have been on a respiratory, and in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. Because of all the amazing people at this hospital I'm a walking, talking, breathing on my own person! I would hate to think what would have been without my team. I love them all, and couldn't thank them enough!

Fantastic experience: I had Guillain-Barré in 2015 and I received excellent care here in every way! I had gone to a few doctors prior to coming to the U’s emergency room, and unfortunately none of them could figure out what was going on. When I was finally referred to the U, they figured out it was GBS in about 20 minutes and admitted me. After a week in acute neuro, I was transferred to the neuro rehab unit. I had an amazing care team there, like Stacy Turner (PT) and Mindy Tanner (OT), Dr. Edgley, and several others who all had my best interest at heart. I could really tell they all cared about me and my future success. The medical health professionals who work at Nielsen rehab really know their stuff, especially where all things neuro are concerned. In fact, I was so inspired by the therapy team that I started OT school at the U in 2018 and I am about to graduate and become licensed as an OTR/L! This is the place to go for excellent medical care and rehabilitation.

Fantastic experience: My husband spent 5 months at the U of U and let me tell you all that this place is truly amazing! Every single staff member I met was simply awesome. Best hospital. We have moved states since his discharge date and we definitely can say the U of U is filled with fun and kind people. 10 out of 10 would recommend. Much love to you all ❤️

Fantastic experience: Love this place! I was life flighted to U of U from massive pile up on I80 Wyoming last winter. I was in ICU 10 days,I had several surgeries. I then woke up in the rehabilitation hospital, there I received occupational, physical and speech therapy for the next two months. The doctors, nurses, therapists and aids are stellar! They put me back together with compassion, and encouragement! Literally saved me!

Fantastic experience: I was wheeled into this rehab hospital, barely able to walk and with double vision so bad I had to wear glasses with one side saranwrapped just so I could see anything. When I left a little over 2 weeks later, I was walking by myself and didnt need my glasses anymore! The therapists at the Craig Neilson Center were so thoughtful, caring, and fun. They incorporated my interests from before my accident into my recovery which helped me retain some sense of normalcy. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone recovering from a traumatic brain injury!

Fantastic experience: Not even from UT was on vacation in Southern UT, when I am life flighted to SLC with a brain bleed. I was scared, in a new place. Thank GOODNESS I was sent to this rehab facility. I NEEDED them! I left walking (I was not walking at arrival). My team would NOT let me fail. Even the people that were not part of my team, got to know me and were fantastic cheerleaders. My physical team, gave me all the time i needed for questions and explained things until I fully understood. They even took the time with my family members. Bottom line I would go back to them, if this happened again. I also refer people all over the country when they are looking for answers. LOVED THEM!

Fantastic experience: My husband has a blood bone cancer. His nerves and spinal cord got pinched enough to affect his walking and pain level. They did a wonderful job of taking care of him and helping him learn to walk again. With cancer nothing can be perfect but instead of being wheelchair-bound he can now walk some and me some is at least something. The care they took of him was better than anything I’ve ever seen in any rehab. They have a wonderful facilities to help him get better and a staff that really cared for him individually.

Fantastic experience: I spent nearly 2 months in this hospital and for the most part the DR’s and nurses were awesome, and they have one of the best cheese burgers I’ve ever had! Highly recommend this place, don’t wish having to be there on anyone but if you are in need of this type of facility I wouldn’t go anywhere else

Kirk Goings 5 years ago

Negative experience: Terrible service, they are only interested in making a buck. Made an appointment and then they called back and cancelled. Said I needed a referral, which I don’t. And they offered me one of their primary care physicians to talk to. So they can bill double. For a group of people that are supposed to be helping people in need. This group misses the mark.

Negative experience: Run screaming from this facility. They almost killed my husband. My husband choked on food and I called the nurse, no answer, I went into the hall noone at the nurses station. I grabbed the first CNA I saw. . She listened to him choke panicked and went to get a nurse ast husband was turning blue. I finally stuck my finger in his mouth and cleared his airway. Later I was told I panicked. LMAO. Because "I panicked" they put him in the breakfast lunch club. Stupidiest thing ever. They are supposed watch them eat so patients don't choke. Hell I was doing that already. Next he had two seizures both were ignored by the DR/resident on call. He has a history of seizures. As a result his right side deteriorated severely. We ended up in the Huntsman for almost a month. At one point he was given a 5% of living. I did not want to be in this facility to begin with. This was our second stay. I wasn't pleased with the first stay. Devyn (OT) and Elena (ST) 5 star all the way. Our PT didn't care if my husband idid any therapy. His attitude was almost like he didn't want to be there. Run as far and as fast as you can from the his facility.
