Orthopedic Center of Illinois: Reviews

Fantastic experience: I began therapy there for calcific tendonitis in the left shoulder. All three persons who guided my physical therapy journal were warm, professional and very knowledgeable. I canceled my remaining appointments because of pain, but it turns out my shoulder had begun the painful process of healing and, I suspect, reabsorption of the calcium deposit. My shoulder feels better each day, and I am deeply grateful to the team there. I plan on doing a testimonial in '26.

Negative experience: Went here today after falling on ice a few times on my job. Checked in about 10:30 am. And it was the walking in clinic. Waited for a long time while watching folks who came in after us get called before us. Went back to check in desk and told them this. They told me...a specialist was helping out with clinic and will see me instead. It felt very racial..since the same thing happened in other waiting room. We finally left close to 1:00 pm. Around 20 minutes later...the called and asked where I was because they were ready for me...Well I told them I waited for too long while other who came afterwards got called in before me. We never go back again after my wife told me she had similar incident in the past

Negative experience: Wish I could give them a zero! At first I thought the dr was ok np was a bit rude but after i had surgery i immediately had problems! Outpatient surgery and my sleep apnea made it more difficult to wake up from anesthesia (unusual for me tho tbh) and they told my husband I woke up said i was still tired and they let me sleep rather than telling him the truth that i wasn’t breathing like i should and the machines were going off because I stopped breathing multiple times! Then, I immediately noticed a weird feeling on top of my left foot! Not to mention the amount of pain I had been in ever since! Had xray upon xray the last visit i went to i had had enough of being lied to! He claimed my xray looked great n that he doesn’t understand why im still in so much pain that i was cured of all my back issues (degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis just to name a couple) but I have had mri n ct scan plus nerve study over the course of the last 3-4 months and everything is actually getting worse at a rapid speed! I was told i had a 70-78% of relief i didn’t even get 2%! Dr van fleet isn’t helpful and they care more about getting their money from you than actually helping you!! I will never go back here or recommend him to anyone!! I feel he should pay me money for dealing with what i have had to!! I had surgery on a Thursday n was told i could go to work 4 days later on that Monday! I should’ve never ever been allowed to do that, told lies, told my husband lies, etc! I am barely able to walk without pain so bad and weakness in both legs sciatica is worse than before it’s nonstop pain n agony! I walk with a cane(he told me not to n not to use back brace) I ended up fired from my job(I worked for a dr office which absolutely has zero empathy for their disabled employees) and now going through even more hoops trying to fix what he screwed up!! I been wondering who else has had bad experiences with dr van fleet too!! DO NOT RECOMMEND

Negative experience: As a patient of Dr G Allan after the assessment by Residents in 11-2024 I was scheduled for surgery. Once again I saw Residents before surgery and Dr G Allan spoke with my family after surgery . After surgery follow-ups were only done with the PA. Before surgery I was informed I would be on a walker for 6 weeks and then PT but never received teaching about how to use a walker. No teaching on what to expect once PT began. On a follow up appointment with the PA I felt it was not clear where my progress should be or given direction on returning to work. The most frustrating was I was called one week prior to the surgery and informed I had to pay the full amount of the insurance payment or have my checking account debited for 3 payments. Also I am on a family plan for insurance and knew it was not going to be what they quoted. It was do option 1 or 2 or NO SURGERY. After the surgery as I suspected I was over charged approximately $400 dollars which they would not return to me until I completed all treatment even though I was guaranteed 90 days post-op care. It then took them a total of 7 months to get my refund which I had to request and the man I spoke to was rude. Definitely would not recommend this office.

Negative experience: No one at this facility cares about senior citizens that require orthopedic surgery. Outpatient surgery - it doesn't matter to them that if you are sent home immediately after surgery you will be by yourself . They don't care that you can't financially afford in home help for $25 - $30 an hour around the clock for the first three days after surgery. There is no compassion, empathy or understanding shown to the patient. They won't do anything to help you obtain the in home help you absolutely need after this type of surgery.

Negative experience: The wait times for anything at OCI are an absolute joke. If you like waiting for hours with zero communication, this is the place for you!

Benjamin Jennison 6 months ago

Fantastic experience: I went in Saturday as a walk-in for my shoulder, I saw Brennan r Malham who took the time to sit down with me and go threw all the motions, to figure out the issue, Brennan did a fantastic job of explaining what was going on with my shoulder and provide several options for recovery

Negative experience: walk in clinic was great. follow up phone calls and appointment requests went unanswered, no return calls, nothing. Simply asking for physical therapy appointment, left mesasges over days with no call back. Absolutely disappoointing.

Negative experience: Went about a year ago for a cortisone shot. I've had shots before and had no issues with the doctor. I saw a NP and she told me I didn't need it and walked out. I will Never go to OCI again.

Negative experience: Started strong over my wife's back surgery, but are taking progressively longer to get through an appointment. This is our third visit where we have had to sit for an hour or more after our scheduled time. On more than one occasion, they have outright forgotten they checked us in. The surgery went relatively okay, but the drive by bedside manner of a 5 minute "hey you're still in pain that sucks for you, okay bye." when my wife says she still can't spread her toes after making us sit for hours on end is inexcusable. If you expect decent follow up after your operation, look elsewhere. We have sat for an hour nextto the imaging room getting irradiated while they tell us "just a bit longer" for the 4th time. We've opted to leave the appointment because this is unprofessional and blatantly inconsiderate to people with schedules to keep.

Negative experience: !!! ABSOULTLY HORRIBLE PLACE TO GO !!! If you develop a staph infection they will teat it as any other non urgent procedure. They want to prolong your pain and suffering as long as possible. Why? well if it's been in there awhile what is the rush to get it treated? That was Dr. Allen attitude and he has no sympathy for people with a BMI over 4.

Negative experience: This review is on Marty C. Wilson, PA to Dr. Allan. I had a 6 month follow up after knee replacement with Marty. My appointment was 11:05 am, I waited in the main waiting section until every one was gone but me setting there, it was now 11:40 am. A lady came by and said "You are the only one in the waiting room, I replied yes, they must be very busy today as my appointment was 11:05 am.. She replies I will go see what's happening. She came out a few minutes later and said they will call me soon. I thanked her". Later I learned she was the CEO I believe of OCI. My name was called, I went down the hall, Marty was looking down at my knee with a firm look like he was upset, his mouth was pulled tight and I said Hello Marty which he never responded. I was put in a room and I asked the nurse was Marty in a bad mood today as he never spoke to me when I spoke to him, she said she didn't think so that he probably was just thinking. Later Marty came in never said a word to me just started writing on the paper he had. I said I was still having some issue with my knee, he had me set on the exam table and said that I was fine. He then opened the door to leave, he slammed the door open so hard it hit the wall, he returned with a card for me to see Dr. Allan in 6 months. He slapped the card down on the counter, never looking at me one time. He still had that disgusting look on his face as he left the room and went out to the reception desk and slammed the paper down on their desk and then he proceeded to see another patient. I left the room and asked the girls at the desk "What in the world is the matter with him today"? I reported him to Julie, OCI over site manager. I asked for an apology from Marty due to his actions toward me. It has been one month and I have not received an apology from him. Marty actions toward me was Senior Abuse. I never want to go to that office again. Marty needs to take a course on Senior Abuse if he plans to stay in the medical field. I am reviewing my options regarding his terrible attitude toward me when I never did anything.

Negative experience: It is a privilege when this practice excepts you as a patient. Not on the ball at all. Whole staff is incapable of doing their jobs well. If you don’t like it they suggest you go some place else…. That’s the attitude

Negative experience: Horrible wait times. Every single appointment. We have not had one appointment here that was on time. Communication is the not the best. The doctors are great, but the scheduling and wait when you arrive for your appointment is awful.

Negative experience: At first, our family was impressed with Dr. Graves and the care my father received. Unfortunately, that has changed. His office has been contacted by myself (I am POA for Dad) and home health has reached out. Apparently after surgery he is unconcerned with patient pain control. It is a struggle to get call backs from messages we leave. Mind blowing because Dr. Graves advised pain would be for months. It would be different if Dad were going thru pain meds and addiction was concern. His last pain med was filled at the end of December, so addiction is not issue.

Positive experience: I recently saw dr Patel for my back. I was not impressed at all. She was rushing from the time I got to the room to the end of my visit. She proceeded to tell me “it’s normal to have back pain as you get older.” I will not be using oci ever again.

Fantastic experience: Back in 2005 I was in a terrible car accident. I was ejected from the vehicle. I had a “t12 vertebrae burst” and a broken tail bone. The vertebrae burst caused paralysis from my waist down. Dr. VanFleet, did my surgery and did an amazing job. He visited me almost daily in the hospital for 19 days after my surgery. He’s a very personable person. I walked less than 3 months later. Thank you Dr. VanFleet truly❤️

Negative experience: From previous experiences that care is good but todays visit wasn’t well met. Walked in to get hand checked out, waited about 30-45 minutes and asked how much longer, ginger lady told me I was next in line. Waited more than 20 more minutes just to not be seen..

Fantastic experience: Dr Meander and his staff were outstanding; very professional and caring. The wait to finally get treated was long but worth the wait.

Negative experience: Horrible service from the start. My physician sent an order for Physical therapy and the clinic set me up with an appointment with a physician that was weeks out. I did not need to see a physician, I had a physician. I just needed therapy. Finally got a therapy appointment. The therapist was not friendly. She was actually rather rude. Asked why I was there but didn’t really want to hear what I said. She never laid hands on me to examine me. Just gave me exercises to do and sent me on my way. I went to 2 other sessions. Had different therapy assistants (PTA’s) each visit and they were to busy talking with their co-workers over top of me. It was the worst therapy I had ever experienced. I switched to a different therapy center and had the best care. Getting an appointment was easy and quick. Each session involved the therapist working with the body part I had injured and spoke with me throughout the session. They were great. I recommend Physio Therapy Professionals on Whits Oaks Drive. They were fabulous. My recovery went well and I am back on my feet. The final straw was I received the bill. Called to ask if there was a way to pay in line. I was told yes and to just go to their website. It took me awhile to find it and when I finally did the link did not work. After several attempts I called again. They said it should be working. Several more attempts, it still is not working and now they are sending me to collections. I have an HSA with my employer. I have over $1500 in that account to pay medical bills at this time. Horrible service and possible practices. I would give them zero stars if that was an option. I work in health care with an advanced degree. I have been a nurse for 31 years. Worked in many areas of nursing, including hospital ortho floor and acute rehab hospital with both inpatient and outpatient therapy departments. If we ran our business like this we would not have had much business. I only mention this so people understand I know the healthcare industry and have experience in ortho and physical therapy. Like Insaid, go to physio therapy professionals. They were great.

Negative experience: 8 years ago I had a ganglion cyst removed from my wrist by Dr. Rasavi, afterwards I had no mobility. Upon going back to him he refused treatment. I went to Dr. Maender next for a second opinion. He informed me Dr. Rasavi was no longer with them, and it seemed as though the circumstances behind it were sketchy. Dr. Meander gave me a cortisone shot and said “that didn’t fix it so another surgery won’t” thus I was destined to never being able to bend my wrist again. I ended up getting a 3rd opinion from a different place and had a second surgery, have been fine since then. I was incredibly displeased with OCI’s surgeons and their unwillingness to help me with a simple procedure. Fast forward 7 years, I have a ganglion cyst in my knee. I took medications that did nothing for the pain, I tried bracing it which only restricted movement and made it more painful, and I did 6 weeks of PT that resulted in the inability to walk. Now, I’ve had an MRI to prove there is a 0.55” ganglion cyst in my knee. I returned to OCI to receive care for this and was denied again. I went to Dr. Desir. This dr told me to put a brace on it, try a new med, and do PT. I explained to him multiple times how those things either didn’t help or made it excruciatingly painful. He didn’t seem to care. When I told him it was a ganglion cyst he acted like I’d just told him aliens had landed on the planet. He seemed as though he had never looked at my MRI to begin with. I had 2 drs review my MRI and they both told me the only solution is to surgically remove the cyst. But yet I go to a surgeon and receive nothing even remotely helpful. I will never return to OCI for treatment. This is strike 3. I advise anyone who wants a real answer to avoid this place as well.

Negative experience: We had been there last week and the nurse practitioner who saw my child for knee pain said to come back if his pain worsened. Came back today because his pain is worse and the knee is swollen. Well, we were refused care. They sent in a trainee and I think maybe a cna? We were told they didn't see comfortable seeing him because the nurse practitioner who saw him last time was not in. I told her, this is a walk in clinic he should be able to get care from the provider on duty. She said they see that as stepping in the toes of the other nurse practitioner, so we should come back tomorrow when he is in. In the meantime, they also refused prescribing meds for the pain and also refused a school note for PE and sports. They did collect their 40 copay and I had to ask for a refund. The practitioner on duty never showed face or talked to me. All done through the trainee and nurse. No continuity of care and very rude. Update: he required surgery.

Fantastic experience: Dr Graves and the team at OCI have given me my life back. My surgery was in January of 2023 and I am very happy with the results. I feel better than I have the last 15 years. I highly recommend Dr Graves and OCI.

Fantastic experience: I would recommend Dr Herrin. Him and his nurses and staff were very kind and considerate and very accommodating. I really enjoyed the informational class that I attended before the surgery. It helped in knowing what to do and how to do it before the surgery and after the surgery. I received a total hip replacement.

Mike Motor 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: Dr. Herrin and staff successfully performed surgery on the torn meniscus in my right knee. The three month recovery period went as planned, and I am now enjoying a fully functional life schedule, including just having played a pain-free 18 holes of golf.

Negative experience: This was my daughter's second appointment here and this is the second time we have had to wait longer than an hour. The first time was a 3 hour wait all for the Dr to say she needed a brace, this one was an mri. Why does it take so long to get in just for a few minute appointment? Also people who were here after us get taken before us and we have an appointment not all the people here do they are walk ins as well, I'm just saying if the appointment is at a set time take the people back in that time not have them waiting for hours for assistance and the lady at the desk walked off without coming back. Now the third time and we are again waiting idk how long it will take this time but it's 233 and the ap was at 215

Fantastic experience: I have received several spinal epidurals with vering degrees of positive success. Overall I am happy with the results as they are not miracles but far less envasive than surgery. Most people who use the facilities have great success from doctors and staff. I agree. Dr. Bender has treated me successfully for many years. So has Dr. Allen for knee surgery.

Fantastic experience: Great group of people.. excellent work...just had my labrum and rotator cuff repaired by DR. Meander and a great crew helping him on valentines day.. they made an unpleasant situation feel not so unpleasant..won't go anywhere else if future need for orthopedic surgery presents itself.

Negative experience: Dr. Idusuyi may or may not have done a good job on my broken femur. 3 months after surgery, still having problems. Go in for check up, $555 office call, and he seems very unconcerned, and sends me to another doctor. Does not even physically check me over. Just a totally bad experience.

Negative experience: Dr graves was a very good surgeon. But the nursing staff is not what I’d call motivated. After dealing with them the last year I won’t return again if ever injured. Poor service. Never return a call. Horrible. 2/10 Staff. Dr 10 /10

Fantastic experience: Dr. Mulshine is a very qualified, skilled surgeon who really works to understand your concerns and the proper diagnosis. I am still recovering from my procedure, but it has been almost completely pain free due to his excellent work.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend OCI, especially Dr. Watson. He actually listens to his patients, and does his best to relieve them of their pain, and help them perform their activities of daily living. Good guy!!

Tim Clow 2 years ago

Negative experience: The NP was wishy washy in his assessment. He complained they won’t let him get the training to give ultra sound cortisone shots said as he pointed they’re territorial over there. He also told me twice that he would call me back before the end of the day that was Thursday morning at 8am and it’s Friday 5pm and he has never called. Biggest waste of money I would not recommend as long as that NP is in there. Sorry but it’s the worst experience I have ever had at OCI I am very disappointed.

Cassandra Malloy 2 years ago

Negative experience: Terrible communication with office staff, my brother in law was misdiagnosed at this clinic wasting over a year of his precious time. He was deemed as pain med seeking and overweight. Which he was not either of those things. He went elsewhere and was diagnosed with ALS immediately. I used this clinic as well and the wait times to be seen are outrageous and to be told nothing. Not impressed. Save your time and go somewhere else. If I could give zero stars I would. Physicians are arrogant. Office staff is rude.

Fantastic experience: LOVE ...LOVE... LOVE Dr. Maender!! He's EXCELLENT at what he does! He fixed my right thumb, and soon will fix my left thumb. He's very professional and truly cares about his patients. He takes the time to answer questions and makes sure you understand. AND...HE SMILES!!!!❤️

Positive experience: Only problem I have is didn't get my medicine in a appropriate time had to wait till next day and had told him I was completely out. Only other thing was needed to see my vascular doctor per doctor Graves ASAP said he would let doctor Robinson (vascular doctor) that I needed to see him ameeditly. I called and soon as I could see him was 3 months so found me another doctor and am having surgery next week. Need to add am very pleased with doctor Graves back surgery.

Fantastic experience: Dr. VanFleet has been my surgeon through 3 different procedures. I have nothing but the highest regard for his professionalism as well as his investment in his patients’ care. I would highly recommend him to anyone facing back or neck issues.

Lisabeth Granzeau 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: No one should be apprehensive about knee replacement if they are patients of the Church team. Kindness, knowledge, concern for their patients’ well being are what they are all about. I won’t hesitate to have my other knee replaced. If you follow their instructions, you’ll be walking in the park!

sassafras red 2 years ago

Negative experience: The drs have terrible bedside manner. Two totally different opinions on a shoulder issue. A third dr from a different clinic diagnosed the shoulder injury as a torn labrum not frozen shoulder . Spent a6 months in pain before a better dr diagnosed it correctly. As to the total knee replacement it was ok. The lack of checking in on the patient after surgery was so lacking. I would highly recommend finding another service than OCI. I have heard from other people and medical staff that they have a bad reputation. Seek real Drs elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Dr Lalonde is very thorough.. as is his nurse practitioner. I’m very satisfied with the service I received. Very lovely and helpful staff.. especially under the circumstances!! Negative experience: Be aware that it is a common practice to price gouge the customer when receiving a brace as part of your care. Also be aware that the financial department will be unwilling to work with you to make the cost of the brace more affordable. Don't be afraid to report this to the attorney general if this happens to you. Maybe the practice will get stopped.

Norman Lewis 2 years ago

Negative experience: **Not recommended** Communication is non-existent here. Call, leave message; will not return calls (& hung up when i mentioned to the receptionist they are very unprofessional). Dr Chambers seemed unconcerned about my swollen and painful foot. I will not use this place again. UPDATE: OCI will not release the results of the catscan w/o making another appointment, meaning a 1.5 hour round trip, even more bills & I've pretty much had to self care, since no guidance from them. Foot feels almost "normal" now (original problem started mid-August 2023).

Fantastic experience: I have had back problems since I was 16 years old I am now 29. I have seen numerous doctors who told me there was nothing they could do for me and it would just get worse. Fast forwards to this present year, my pain did in fact get worse I couldn't bend over to put socks or tennis shoes on, I was living in Hey Dude shoes and flip flops. I was taking soo much ibuprofen just to get out of best and function for my job. I was NOT living as i should be for being 29 years old. I went and get an updated MRI and my doctor said it was worse and referred me to OCI to Dr. Graves. He looked at my MRI and explained it all to me. My S1 was budging(its detreated ) out and pinching my nerves pretty good and has narrowed the spinal canal and told me I had 4 options. 1. living with it which isn't clearly what you are wanting to do. 2. medicine to help with the pain 3. Back injections and 4. Surgery. so we started the medication and I went and got back injections and it only helped during the numbing phase after it wore off I now had a different type of pain which wasn't much better then what I had. So next was surgery I was super nervous but Dr. Graves assure everything would b so much better and man was he right! Having that surgery was the best thing I could have done! Dr. Graves was ever so kind and always listening when I explained everything and was with me every step of the way! I am now living how I should be!! GO SEE DR. GRAVES IF YOU ARE GOING TO ANY BACK SPECIALIST!

Fantastic experience: Arrived with a broken toe. A wheel chair was brought to me & I got in quickly, even with 4 other people ahead of me at the walk-in clinic. Promptly seen by nurse, X-ray tech & by the orthopedic dr on call that day.

Debra Holt 2 years ago

Fantastic experience: I went to Dr. Mulshine for a 2nd opinion on a broken ankle. He told me something on my x-ray that my previous Dr hadn't mentioned. Dr. Mulshine had a very calming and professional manner about him. I believe Dr. Mulshine was a more conservative dr, which I appreciated. Going forward, I would return to Dr. Mulshine if I need surgery on this ankle, or ever needed surgery on a different foot/ankle injury. I also liked and appreciated his nurse, Veronica. I furthermore would recommend Dr. Mulshine to any of my friends or associates.

Fantastic experience: I've always had good service at the Orthopedic Center. I tried conservative treatment at home but eventually went into the Center as a vacation neared. Glad I did. Feeling better already. Enjoyed meeting Dr. Church. Friendly, welcoming staff. Felt my needs were met.

Negative experience: I went to their Walk-In clinic for a sudden onset of hip pain that has me limping and keeping my up all night. The wait was over 2.5 hours and I didn't see an MD the whole time. They gave me an X-Ray of my lumbar spine and you could only see the very top of my pelvis so there was no image of my hip at all. The FNP that saw me rotated my hip and I had good range of motion but flexing my hip or stretching my hip muscle caused immediate intense pain. He said my joint was fine and the issue must be in my back even though there was no evidence of that in the X-Ray. I was polite but questioned if it could be anything other than in my spine and that the image didn't cover my hip at all. The nurse became defensive and said, "What do you want me to say?" I told him I just wanted an accurate diagnosis and wanted to talk through the things he was saying that didn't make sense. The nurse seemed offended and clueless as to how troubleshoot and as I gave him new information, he seemed to dig into his diagnosis but was not able to clearly talk about how he came to his conclusion. During the exam, he lightly pressed in the wrong spot while I was sitting and since there was no pain just moved on. I told him when I press in a little different spot I had pain and he didn't care to hear that. I understand that they were busy and that a new pain with no clear cause can be hard to diagnose. The issue was that he didn't even try to dig in to come up with an accurate diagnosis. They just went through the motions to get me off the table.

Fantastic experience: I arrived just before the center open. But my wait time was 30 minutes. I got there before the doctors. I was seen by a Resident and Doctor Church. They had X-rays taken, diagnosed my problem and recommended treatment, which I received. My shoulder is 100% better after 1 day. Very efficient, thorough, friendly and very competent I highly recommend the walk in trams center at the Orthopedic Center of Illinois.

Fantastic experience: I left a response a couple days ago. It must not have gone through. Dr. VanFleet was very thorough in explaining the problem and possible surgical corrections that could be performed. A date is to be set. He advised me that PT would be arranged for after surgery, one night hospital stay, and that he felt due to my age, a more invasive surgery with rods would not be used. I appreciate his concern and advisement. His demeanor was exemplary. I am glad I have him as my surgeon.

Fantastic experience: I am certain I could have made no better choice than Dr. Allan Gordon at Illinois Orthopedic Center for my total knee replacement. Surgery was ten weeks ago, and already the improvement to my life is amazing. So important to the success of the procedure were Dr. Gordon's instructions regarding physical therapy and medications well before and after the surgery, and the care and treatment I received from everyone else along the way was also the best. Should I require orthopedic surgery in the future, I will know immediately where to go.

Fantastic experience: Dr Sharma has been amazing. He fixed my root tear of my meniscus. It was a rough recovery but I was just cleared after 7.5 weeks and I have zero pain. It is amazing!! He has been so pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. I was blown away the day after my surgery to get a call from HIM! Not a nurse but actually from Dr. Sharma. I highly recommend him. I am actually starting the process to figure out what my other knee is doing and didn't even think twice. He is working that knee up now!! Oh and my incisions were perfectly straight! I was very impressed. 2 of the 3 incisions are completely healed and you cannot even see them. The larger one is healing perfectly in a completely straight line but still in the process of healing so visible. But I have no doubt it will continue to heal well! Thanks Dr. Sharma!!!
