Loretto Health & Rehabilitation: Reviews
Negative experience: Place is disgusting! Treated my mom terribly! Needed assistance after having tubes put in her back for kidney stones. Would leave her in the bathroom for hours before someone came. She was there a week before anyone flushed her tubes! Took over as payee behind my back when I went on vacation and kicked her out of her apartment at Sedgwick. Wouldn’t send my dog to this place!!!!!

Negative experience: mad unprofessional, went to see my aunt her room was dirty and the staff there needs to be retrained and very disrespectful!!!!

Negative experience: Under staffed and most food processed. Patients there aren't cared for enough and usually get sent back home. Nurses are no help at all. Elderly just wander around with no help. Don't bring your family here ever.

Negative experience: Was suppose to be there 2 weeks and no physical therapy on weekends when I arrived which I understood. Monday morning they said I wouldn’t start until Tuesday. So I said that is unacceptable so I told them I signing myself out. They brought me my pills with mine and someone else’s pills but didn’t know what pills they were giving me and if he had my pills and another person’s pills there’s no safety net to make sure your getting your pills. I would rather die than go back there. He staff were great and just doing what there told. It was the saddest sight seeing people that were stuck there. On my way out a lady begged us to take us with us and felt so bad because I know what she’s going through.

Negative experience: Does this nursing home facility wonder why they only have 2.4 stars ?..I'll tell you why..the staff is horrible! The way they treat their patients is disgusting..you don't like your job ..go someplace else ! I dont even want to tell you about the food there ! Rather get it from a vendor machine ..my friend is going through a horrible time with her sibling being there ! ..man up !

Negative experience: If you love your family member do not put them under this company's "care". My uncle was here under their care for 10 days. We would come to check on him during the week and he was soiled his room smelled terrible and he was frustrated with no one to help him with simple tasks. He was also rough handled by staff. Shame on this company and the staff that was supposed to care for him your lucky I'm not in town to take legal action for this. I hope someone else in the future will because this company has a reputation for poor unprofessional care. If they cannot handle properly 10 days of care I cannot imagine longer please avoid this place at all costs!

Negative experience: I have a family member in Loretto for just about a year. Long term care. Is bedridden so has to be cared for. The stories that have been related to me are unacceptable. The food is absolutely disgusting and a lot of processed food, plus served cold. Most stuff she can't eat as just gross. She has laid in soiled briefs for hours. Constantly told they are understaffed, a few CNA's are extremely rude to her and last night an RN was really rude to her. She has been very upset lately and she has complained and complained as well as her daughter and nothing ever gets resolved. Ombudsman said they are overwhelmed and are of no help. Who exactly advocates for these patients and gets resolution for these issues? Very upsetting to hear a loved one cry on the phone. Truly disturbing.

Negative experience: This is the worst place ever to send anyone!!! My brother was there for a few months and witnessed his roommate being abused by a nurse as well has having lazy social workers. His room had feces on the floor for days even after I asked that it get cleaned up. This is a nightmare place, don't send your loved ones to Loretto!!!!!
Deenie, thank you for your review. We'd like to learn more about your experience. Please get in touch with us directly at [email protected].
Negative experience: Nurse Manager 2nd Floor just passes the buck back to the hospital patient came to them from. Four days without insulin for a Type 1 diabetic. Hoping now he doesn't die. Never ran any type of test on him for Ketones in his blood. Nurse manager, LPN, and CNA rallied against me for knowing too.much. Got asked to leave facility because he needed to be changed, from a bowel movement, but because she just did 10 minutes ago. Well, guess what! He pooped! So if you don't want updates,or to be treated with respect.....stay away. I am reporting this incident to the NYS Dept of health and the Ombudsman of Loretto and pray my family member makes it out of there alive UPDATE: HE DIDN'T MAKE IT. HE DID PASS. Do not send your loved one here

Positive experience: Love that my aunt was so happy one thing bad is that they leave you sitting there for hours

Negative experience: I would not send any living person there unless you want them sicker. A 21 year old there post op spinal surgery patient left in bed for 24 hours. In a bariatric room but wheelchair can’t enter bathroom, waited 3 hours with exposed surgical wound after it fell off. Dressing onlly changed after it soaked through in 18 hours, 2 hours waiting for help to bathroom, he was reprimanded for calling home for help, not given meds as lpn “forgot”, staff angry at mother because she wanted accountability, 2 + days with a plugged toilet, told by staff to empty his own urinal, it goes on and on. I do have to add that there were several wonderful employees that actually tried to help that were never given the credit they deserved! To those thank you.

Fantastic experience: No one wants to go into a nursing home or go through rehab. It is not home. It is not a vacation. There are many patients and their families want the best for them. Danielle on 2 Fahey, along with Rachel, Emily, Marcos, and others did everything they could to make my brother-in-law's stay the best possible. They made sure that he was cared for in a genuine and loving way. He passed away while they were by his side, keeping him comfortable and feeling safe. To all who complain, may I respectfully suggest communication with the staff, open and honest, without anger and without assumptions about those who are caring for your loved ones. Support and care goes both ways. We were blessed with the care that our loved one received at Loretto on 2 Fahey.
Bruce, thank you very much for the kind review.
Negative experience: Poor women we know had to go to hospital for an infection . The hospital put her on a feeding tube and released her to lorreto . Her daughter checked on her every day, no one and I mean no one gave her any care . Her daughter s/w 3 supervisors and they said they just don't have a staffing . She is now back in the hospital ECU .

Negative experience: Room was filthy every day I walked in. Patients had to scream help or nurse to get anyone’s attention. I asked the discharge planner if she was there for the patient or the money. She refused to answer so that said it all. Would not clean my loved one after I bought everything for him to be cleaned with. I walked in the room one day and his bed was soaked in urine, the adult diaper I asked them to not put on him was filled with feces. There were many days I cleaned and dressed him. I would wake up daily in an instant panic to get to him to make sure he was ok. The days I could not go visit, not only made me panic but my loved one was scared. I would not recommend this place ever. If I could give this place a negative star it would be a million negative stars.
Melanie, thank you for your review. We'd like to learn more about your experience. Please get in touch with us directly at [email protected].
Negative experience: If I could give 0 stars I would … do not send any loved ones here!!!! My mother in law is being neglected! It’s mandatory to do a welfare check every two hours, she has really bad blood pressure that can hit dangerous levels, went to visit and come to find out they haven’t done vitals in 4 days on her!! The call bell will go off for over an hour until maybe a nurse on the cell phone decides to walk in . Terrible place
Krista, thank you for your review. We'd like to learn more about your experience. Please get in touch with us directly at [email protected].
Negative experience: If you love someone, do not send them here! Understaffed and an underwhelmed staff. If you want your loved one to rot, please bring them to Loretto. Call bells go on answered for hours. People are left in hallways told that someone will bring them back to their room eventually. There’s duct tape on televisions that have no working remotes. The adjustments on the bed were not working. My loved one has edema and he doesn’t even have a recliner to sit in. They keep bringing him coffee and he doesn’t drink coffee. It’s just a waste. They barely fed him the first night he was there they gave him a scoop of macaroni and cheese and a quarter cup of stewed tomatoes! seriously? They will kick you out if you don’t acquiesce to their demands. A lot of low paid people with more power than they’ve ever had before. My loved one was sitting in his bed with just a shirt on. Because they wouldn’t put a diaper on him! It is, though it’s too much work for everyone there to do anything! This feels like a death trap

Negative experience: Horrible experience with legal system . I had to pay part of my deceased dad's bill. I never signed anything. My dad never gave me money once he had a stroke. He had given my children & I one yrly check for birthday & holiday gifts. So stressed over this unfair situation. My legal bills amounted to $35,000
Negative experience: Disappointed with their choice in workers. A woman who is part of their staff came into our family owned business and refused to pay her bill for her birthday party, disgusting attitude and not only that but her friend she was with who had booked with us prior walked out of our establishment without paying her bill as well. Nurses are supposed to be held to a higher standard in care, they are supposed to be caring people who respect and WANT to take care of and make others feel better. Never dealt with someone more disrespectful in our place. Even gave her 200 dollars off her bill because she “couldn’t pay it” and her behavior was still so disgusting. Be careful who y’all let take care of your loved ones!
Negative experience: The administration there are some of the most unprofessional people I have met. The women (Chris, Danielle, Courtney, to name a few) seem to have a chip on their shoulder and think they are below the patient and the patient’s family members. I will say there were two male nurses that were very kind and the PT/OT staff were also kind. If your loved one has to go here, make sure you stay constantly involved.
Negative experience: If you care and love your siblings PLEASE DONT BRING THEM HERE. Medical Staff makes you feel welcoming and caring. I understand staff and patient safety is a priority, Over medicating patient is unacceptable. My dad walk and talking into loretto to a baseline. In three 3 weeks my dad health declined significantly. WE visit my dad everyday we didn’t let sit there. We were able witness the change with our own eyes. I decided to bring my dad home n care FOR him, the day of pick up my dad was in the worst shape ever. Loretto claimed he was exhausted working in the medical field I knew it wasn’t exhaustion. My dad in upstate hospital being treated for Neuroleptic malignant syndrome something cause by Loretto. I had numerous conversations with nurses. I notice my dad health was decreased. My dad suffers from dementia regardless he didn’t deserve this. The state should monitor these facility more closely. I will follow thru and seek legal advice if it takes my last breath. Please be diligent don’t take everything they say and let it be that. Follow your gut. I’m glad I followed mine to bring my dad to the hospital and not home as Loretto stated he was ok to go. I pray with you all
Negative experience: People corralled like animals. Not for my family member!
Fantastic experience: My mother spent 6 weeks here after a fall. The staff was professional, responsive, capable, and very, very kind. They advocated for my mother’s care and helped tremendously with a new and confusing situation. The PT and OT staff worked miracles.
Fantastic experience: From the time I arrived for short term rehab until I left, I was treated with total respect. They explained to what to expect while I was there. What I was not expecting was the level of care and compassion I received. They were kind and encouraging. Yes, the nurses are short staffed, but, I don't blame Loretto. As we all know, after Covid, there wasn't too many people who wanted to return to work. The staff that stayed late lemonade out of lemons. The PT and OT staff was always professional and kept everything upbeat. I don't have enough good words to say about Loretto, except, THANK YOU!
Negative experience: Fahey Rehab ranges from awful to ok. There are some decent and caring staff there, but overall the management makes everything else suffer. Please research, talk to your ombudsman and/or legal representative, and know your rights before going there and trying to leave. When they feed you the line “we’ll discharge you AMA - Against Medical Advice - and then your insurance will no longer cover your healthcare” know that it is a lie just to scare and control you.
Negative experience: If I could give a negative number I would. Don't take a loved one there. My dad was there we were there all the time bc he wasn't getting taken care of . I belive they killed him. Horrific horrible place. Don't go here!!!
Negative experience: Wish I could leave less than one star but unfortunately that's the minimum.
Negative experience: Lack of decency regarding caring for my Aunt. Decubitus, leaving her in dirty clothes, matted hair. Constantly losing her clothes. Couldn't even pack up her belongings after she passed. On top of that lost her glasses. I would never recommend this business at all.
Negative experience: Please if you love your loved ones, do not send them here. My mother was neglected, ignored. She would lay in her own waste for hours or all day before anyone would go check on her. Lying in her own vomit, not being clean, nothing for her by her bedside to vomit in until I was there, then it was like oh let me get that for you. Absolutely no compassion.
Negative experience: I just walked in the lobby, the medical examiner was cutting through the lobby with a dead body in a body bag on a morgue cart. COME ON! So disrespectful!! To everyone!! 12/12/22 1202pm
Fantastic experience: They gave great care to my Mom For the past 3 yrs. The nurses and Physician asst was awesome. .
Fantastic experience: Let me preface this by saying I’m an RN, so very familiar with “the system”. Anyhow, my grandmother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and was declining rapidly, from living independently to unable to get out of bed, within weeks. She chose not to be treated for the CA (she was 91), but was in an out of St. Joes for pneumonia and low O2. The first time she left St. Joes, she went to The Grand in Chittenango. Overall, that was a scary, disastrous experience - please, do not send your family there! The second time she left St. Joes she went to Loretto. At this point she was on hospice care. They put us in a room at the end of the 4th floor. From the start to the end, all the staff was amazing. They respected our wishes, and took care of all our questions and comments. They respectfully waited quietly in the room with myself and another family member while my grandmother passed, letting us know they were there if we needed anything. After it was over and the funeral home came, staff members escorted my grandmother out of the building. I wanted to write this review because the staff was so amazing - and I wanted them to know how much they are appreciated. Their jobs are incredibly difficult, and they really impressed me.
Fantastic experience: Excellent staff that goes above and beyond taking care of the people that live there.
Negative experience: My mother was there, I just removed her Nov 2021 because I couldn't take the incompetence anymore, this is a horrible place to have to stay. SOME decent nurses, admin was clueless, my mom's social worker was always taking PTO. I had to get NY State Attorney General involved and he was livid! I finally drove 4 hrs to get her and took her home. I WOULDN'T WISH A STAY HERE ON MY WORST ENEMY! BEWARE!...PLEASE.
Fantastic experience: With Thanksgiving approaching, I would like to recognize a few wonderful staff members with a special thank you. Christy Ronk, Marissa (Nurse Practitioner), and Callie Rogers, you have all been wonderful providing information about my sister’s overall health, care, and treatment. Not to mention helping us to stay in touch, and just your compassion and kindness. It is obvious that you honestly care about your patients and their wellbeing. We are so thankful to have you and the 7th floor staff.
Marilyn, thank you very much for the kind review.
Positive experience: I was there for seven months and for the most part, my stay was pretty good... Their nursing staff most friendly and helpful making your stay very comfortable and satisfying ... They were very much professional too...
Negative experience: Absolutely horrendous! My mother was discharged to Loretto for rehabilitation after surgery. Let me start by saying that this is more of an outdated geriatric care facility rather than a rehabilitation center. The treatment from the staff from the very beginning was unprofessional and felt unwelcoming. It took 4 1/2 hours after we arrived to be acknowledged and that was after I had to ask twice to speak to someone about admission. We sat in her room and the dinning hall while waiting for the admission nurse and during that time we were never greeted by anyone. A few things that caught my attention right away was old dried up urine on the toilet seat in her room, the majority of the nursing staff were sitting around on their cell phones, everyone was in a wheelchair and I could hear someone screaming for help from inside their room that was located down the hall. Fast forward to 3 1/2 hours since we got there, I asked a nurse when my mother would be able to receive her pain medication as she was in pain. In response, the nurse slammed her pen down and answered me with the nastiest attitude, stating; “she has to wait until her orders are put in and as you can see I am busy right now.” Mind you, this was the first time that I was spoken to from a staff member after patiently waiting since our arrival. We finally met with the admission nurse and signed the paperwork and I regretfully left at 8:30pm. I was assured that my mother would be taken care of and that she would receive her PM meds by 11PM, including the pain medication that we asked the rude nurse for earlier. Fast forward to the next morning, I woke up to 2 voicemails during the night from my mother hysterically crying because she was in so much pain, they never gave her-her PM meds, that included the pain medication that I had asked the nurse for the day before, she never received her antibiotics that she was taking for pneumonia, or the steroids that she was on to prevent brain swelling. After speaking to my mother at 7AM she was still crying and in pain. Here it is the next morning and she still had never received her PM medications. My mother laid there all night suffering! She also had to toilet herself without assistance because she was being ignored. Needless to say I was there by 8AM and she was discharged immediately! The amount of unprofessionalism inside of this “skilled” nursing facility is absolutely appalling. My mother is 65 yrs young and very well with it, yet this was how her and I were treated. I fear for the safety of those who are a little more vulnerable and less independent. After what I had witnessed and the lack of treatment she received, I would never consider Loretto for any skilled nursing or rehabilitation for a loved one ever again.
Negative experience: My grandma is there she should be doing P.T. is not haven't walk almost a year. Staff is rude hen asking why things that are supposed to get done with her aren't.
Negative experience: The nurses do not care at all, none of them seem like they want to be there and are not willing to help. They make the people who drop medicine off for some patients wait for 45 minutes sometimes when they just have to sign for it. When you used to be allowed in there the nurses all looked so depressed and it was hard to watch because imagine how badly the patients who need a lot of care get treated by them. You need to care about the job and they don't.
Negative experience: I am giving no stars. My mom admitted for rehab and no one called from the facility for 5 days. I got phone numbers to call from admissions office. I work in a skilled nursing facility in NC so aware how we do things. I was hoping they would give my sister updates since she was the primary contact person but no. I called the floor 3 days in a row left messages because we wanted to talk to my mom no one called back. Talked to social worker arranged for me to be on the care meeting call. Nursing not in meeting but therapy did give some info on progress. Thought at the end of meeting they would ask if we had questions but no they ended meeting hung up. Called Social Worker about concerns over no contact with mom they sent email to Recreation Dept to set up FaceTime. Never heard from them and now mom is died! This facility has broken our hearts beyond repair!
Fantastic experience: Take a Picture Of The Cinnamon Rolls
Negative experience: Cannot even get a email address and name to send concerns to!
Negative experience: This was the worst care ever. My beloved father went there for rehab and they did not even let him out of his bed. Fought all weekend with administration regarding his care. He fell and hit his head and I was never contacted. My father told me. This happened on a Friday and on Monday he was rushed to VA by ambulance with possible brain bleed. He had contracted pneumonia there (mainly because they would not move him. He never recovered. DO NOT SEND YOUR DOG HERE.
Negative experience: Do not go to this place unless it is your last resort they do nothing for the patient and cost you an arm and a leg for nothing and then they have the nerve to send you a bill for medications the patients just sit around in wheelchairs and the place is dirty they do not care about the sick at all
Positive experience: The staff is a good caring staff however the administration is terrible, I had to call the admitting hospital even to contact them and they had no one to direct me to my wife's room I had to flag down a nurse who not only directed but took me to my wife
Negative experience: The harassment I have received from a Nurse employed at the facility is unreal! I had two grandfathers under Loretto's care, and for sure will not chose Loretto again after the harassment I received.
Negative experience: They will hire you and barely train you. Most nurses there especially management are washups that have been fired from area hospitals. A lot of weird things go on at night especially in the RCU, some of the worst strung out nurses I’ve seen. My family member will go to Syracuse Homes or MY home.
Fantastic experience: Best one
Positive experience: You know you hear a lot of nightmare stories when it comes to nursing homes. I had to go to Loretto rehab facility after back surgery and very happy and pleased that I was there. It is a rehabilitation facility so you HAVE P.T. and OT twice a day 6 days a week which was unexpected but I'm happy that it occurred. The Staffing personnel from Administration to nursing to the maintenance staff was superb five stars. With any facility you're going to find a few staff members that are not perfect but the good outweighs the bad a hundred percent. The only reason I don't give it a five-star because the food sucks I suffered as a vegetarian. The good news I lost a few pounds fantastic!!
Negative experience: The only reason it is getting one star is for their physical therapy department. The therapy staff is wonderful. Friendly and knowledgeable. The nursing staff is a nightmare. My mother-in-law was unfortunate enough to be there for two and a half months. Between the broken call bell, the rude nursing staff, the scheduling of nonexistent appointments that we had to pay transport for, the hours and a half wait every time sge needed to use the restroom, and the nursing staff generally ignoring her needs for water and food...it was horrible. Even after speaking to nursing supervisor REPEATEDLY, the staff could still not be troubled to give her a cup of water at least once a day. And please keep in mind as you read this that she was bedridden for the first two months of her stay there. In total we were charged $600 for transportation to Doctors appointments that were nonexistent, her as a patient was treated horribly, her family even worse when we brought up an issue, a call bell that broke or would not work 4 times during her stay and each time it broke, it was 4-5 days until it was fixed. The solution they gave was to give her a bell to ring that could not be heard outside the door. All this and she was charged over $50,000 for her stay. I would recommend you go anywhere but here. The nursing staff is that bad. A few were great, but the 3 or 4 good ones did not make up for the 25 that were horrible. I would not even allow the staff responsibility of caring for an animal.
Fantastic experience: It's great place
