Negative experience: THE WORST NURSING HOME IVE EVER SEEN!!! If I could give negative stars, I’d give it a negative 1000! Patients aren’t being checked on at all, some of them calling nurses for hours with no avail, patients laying in chairs slumped halfway onto the floor, I seen many patients wandering around confused and in unsafe positions where they could be injured or worse. It literally smells like death, not just inside the building but as you walk up the walkway you can smell it. They injured my dad by running his foot over with a food cart, and just left him to tend to it himself which led to a big infection and possibly needs an amputation if it doesn’t heal! If you have a loved one there, take them out asap and find ANY other facility for them. I’m shocked this place is still even up and running.

Fantastic experience: Staff can yell, accuse certain tenants/residents there, higher up administrative staff steal property out of the rooms when resident not in the room, at an activity event, including family bought hangers, food bought by said residents. claiming the resident has or making bugs, there was a staff member at the front desk, she told us it was being closed at 8 PM when it says 8:30 PM so people can get out before going to the side door. I know that the courtyard is only open when the weather is nice, for residents, that doesn't always happen, it could be a nice day and get told not enough staff to bring them outside. More about the building food from the kitchen is known & ran by diettitions and small portions are given, some don't get much unless they ordered outside food, or the occasional luncheons, or if after staff meetings they are offered leftovers before being tossed out. (certain aides) Events, sometimes like above for the courtyard, staff is in a hurry to leave then tell them (residents) to check their calendars, only known Wednesdays are the longer days and most don't always go with dinner times, by the way they have a very nice speaker system there they say it doesn't work, it those round 70/80s style speakers they should get them working again. Physical Therapy, they get the most say one person does standout as controlling he stripped a resident of his linen including his undergarment or (briefs) he got got from an aide in his room, that doesn't seem nice at all, they them independant and they take stuff away. Those empty rooms on the first and fourth & B floors should be opened that is a negative view, or any rooms that would make the building look more as being used not filed in with offices. I was there during the James Square operations, the outside lights if I didn't mention a lot of them are broken or not present and/or covered with trees. The security cameras I know those were mentioned above, they are connected not unhooked they do work that doesn't sound safe at all. Outings, there should be more outings for those who can manage not a set day it should be outings to The NYSF Grounds or the malls even if someone has to go. Cellphones, should be not used during working hours, I can see those with kids trying to get them to school on time by video calls, I almost forgot staff keeps slamming the stairway doors at all hours of the morning, that should be quiet for residents sleeping. Laundry services, people often say that clothing is lost stolen or placed back into the wrong room or closet, if clothing needs to be tagged in the room, don't say it can't be done that would save time and less loss of clothing, the other thing that should be done only if it is requested and the requester is in the room & look through clothing to verify if it's really the right persons clothing, for us that what we found out, someone put a pair of pants (lost the bandana) into the wrong closet, how did we know? resident we know passed away in those pants before residing here at this residence of Bishop, he was brought back to life to those reading this. We aren't saying the place is bad if a loved on is residing here and lost their money from SSI or retirement or can't return to a prior residence or said residence is evicting you, that the social workers job, what does a resident do if money isn't available, let a social worker lose property/residence? I would hope not, do the job and get them back home, not holding them longer, we know a resident who has this issue, he was supposed to discharged on a Friday Halloween, he is still there losing his property after a social worker said it was his job to make calls, not true the social worker is supposed to make the calls to these places to stop evictions or get into a new residence, if sending a family member here make sure the social workers, staff are doing their job & not stealing every time a resident leaves for an event, or claiming they are making a false reviews. (I will likely edit this as it seems fit & for errors) Radio/Television local & national news agency

Negative experience: Father's care subpar at best. Tonight he asked nurse to take hime to bathroom she said you have diaper on go in that and we will change you at bedtime. It's only 5pm to me that is not exceptiable.

Negative experience: My Uncle was here for many years. He was like a celebrity to the staff. He seemed happy but after they had called us and told us he had passed away and to come get his things we showed up and they gave us some trash bags full of clothes and told us that was all it was. He had special Paintings on the walls that our family had wanted he had guitars and other valuable items that were all missing. I called the supervisor and they said they had no idea. So the staff stole his stuff after he died and then gave us the scraps. Pathetic

From the very beginning, the staff has been incredibly friendly, welcoming, and professional. Fantastic experience: It seems to be ok. From what I saw in my brief visit. Through one of the staff told me that the staff is responsible for most of the theft that goes on in the building of the residence ‘s belongings. Which is sad. But all of the staff I spoke to were polite and helpful.

Negative experience: It's a communication problem. I've been trying to get in touch with my dad for a week. And I've only spoke to him 1 time. I've been hung up on multiple times and the receptionist is rude and acts like she doesn't know how to transfer calls. The nurses sounds tired and wore out. Very disappointed. This is not the last this facility will hear from me.

Negative experience: My friend who I was visiting received a sandwich which the bread was stale. He wouldn't eat it and disposed it. The food should be fresh and healthy.

Fantastic experience: Today was my mother's birthday. The lady at the front desk was absolutely amazing. Very helpful very friendly. And the staff on two North Were very friendly as well. Answered every question that I had And helped me with the things I needed. I asked my mother how she's Being treated And if she likes the nursing home and she always speaks so highly of everyone and the care that she gets.

Positive experience: Well, today they have never taken her to activities and she needs better care. Her legs are very swollen as if there were insects that stung her. I hope they give her medicine for her legs.
Negative experience: Would rate at -5 stars if possible. Clothes were constantly stolen, no communication between staff and patient, never given all information for stay in regards to things like laundry or any other services during my entire 7 month long admittance. Rehab center, no it was more like a prison.

Negative experience: If I could give no stars I would !!!!! UPDATE !!! If you have options to where to send your loved one pls do NOT send them here ! They will not respond to your phone calls , they will not follow up on your complaints, they will not inform you when your loved one is sick or hurt . Those people who are making positive reviews your either friends or your a rarity . If you do a walk through the lobby and therapy department is nice once you hit the 2,3 or 4th floor in the building that same building it’s a whole new experience.They hired unlicensed social workers who knew nothing about being a social worker. Now they have one licensed social worker but she still does nothing . If you’re a family member and you make complaints follow up via email document everything!! Make sure you complete a grievance form make copies . Know your patient rights even though they don’t follow them ! Report to the health department, take pictures or your family member if something is wrong make sure you review their medical records that’s the only way you will know what’s going on. Keep an outside primary care doctor to ensure they get the proper care. If they tell you something isn’t happening believe them !! They have sticky mice traps in the patient rooms they have mice running around , roaches and bed bugs . No working call bells !!! I have been trying to get help from a social worker for years !! I’m not a bitter family member I’m a concerned daughter, I’m a patient advocate and I’m confused to how this is happening! If you are looking to send anyone breathing here don't!!! I wouldn't send a corpse here they might lose it!! My mother has been admitted in the hospital seven times in the past two yr . Aspiration pneumonia , Urinary tract infection, poly pharmacy . They convert people to long term care They become your payee They provide no oral care The food is below substandard Cell phones come up missing Clothes disappear No disinfectant or cleaning supplies used on equipment No licensed social workers except one No working call bell system This is just the basis of what isn’t happening

Negative experience: Never bring your family here! They leave the aides on the floor with 40 residents sometimes with no nurses! People fall and they say PICK THEM UP instead of calling the supervisor! They take people off 1:1 care when they are short which is ALWAYS! They simply DO NOT CARE everything they tell you is A LIE! They refused to fix my pay when I told them they weren’t paying me what I was told! They have mice and other rodents! TERRIBLE!!! I fell and hurt myself while working and was sent to the ER they refused to pay me workers comp and terminated me! Still until this day I am hurt! Needless to say they will be hearing from my lawyer

Negative experience: This place is iffy. There are times when there are great staff working that really care for the patients, and also many times when that does not seem the case. Twice in a few month's time my mother’s phone cord has needed replacing, so there are problems with theft sometimes. Contacting them about it more than once has received no reply. There have been many times when simply no one answers the phone and you can't reach anyone in the building from the outside world, hense the need for a cell phone and the repeated theft being a problem. She has to stay inside 24/7 unless I am there to bring her outside for fresh air or to enjoy the warm weather in their courtyard, so I think they must need more staff to make it possible for the residents to go outside at least a couple times a week because the place seems more like a prison. I do not recommend this place. Updating review 4/17/2024 to add that there are MANY more instances of theft of my mother's property just in the last month alone. I also was unable to take my mother out of the building for a day trip we had planned for a month because it wasn't in the computer system that she was "allowed" to leave the building even though I had taken her outside for a walk two weeks prior and many times before that. If she had left the building without their "permission," she would not have been able to return. It was a weekend and the nurse managers do not work on weekends or at least are not able to be contacted, so the issue could not be resolved in time to salvage the trip. Downgrading review from 2 stars to 1. Do not go here if you can avoid it.

Fantastic experience: Honestly I heard horrific things...super stressed.....But it ended up being amazing treated my mother-in-law amazing she had a great time! Shannon, jasmine I cannot remember the lady who asked her all the questions she was great! Social services was amazing. All and all she had a great stay! Her only complaint was the food was garbage (says alot coming from her because the things she mixes ugh) so glad they were able to help her come home❤️❤️

Positive experience: Place was fairly clean. We did encounter a beggar in the parking lot asking for money. My sister's call button has not worked for weeks. Staff doesn't tend to my sisters needs in a timely manner. Staff is friendly but it appeared that requests from staff were not always met. We were told she would get a shower every Friday but that didn't happen, we did request that be done. An aid said she would do it but never did, next shift found another aid who finally did it. Makes me believe things don't get done unless a family member there all the time.

Fantastic experience: The team looking after my mother in a difficult and never seen before medical condition has been amazing during this difficult time. A few names to highlight are Shelby, one of the administrators. She has been phenomenal. A true professional with empathy. Fantastia, the head nurse has also been amazing and empathetic. Dr. Evans and Teri Levine hade also been in constant communication with me but this area where we live doesn’t have what my mother needs and local hospitals want nothing to do with her brain condition. It’s inhumane of them. She’s only 68 and this is tragic for our family. Nikki, one of the aides along with nurses (there are some who really shine with my mom and I can’t remember their names right now) right down to Jonah at the front desk who is always smiling and friendly… I appreciate all of them during this horrific time for my mom. Yolanda has a huge heart too. When my mom is able to go home, we will miss this team of stakeholders looking after her; life is sacred and my family and I hope she makes it home. Thank you to everyone who has touched my mom’s life positively and empathetically. I bring donuts weekly. The picture of my mom with her granddaughter, my niece is before this tragedy happened around Christmas and was taken on 10/28/23. And whoever lost her clothes, I have some special comments for you. Negative experience: My sister has been in there a week. She has not She not seen a doctor since she has arrived there a week ago. She has not had any rehab.She just sits in the room all day just like the other patients. I have seen your reviews. They are terrible

Positive experience: Let me put it simply Called admissions 4 days ago NO call back Tried calling to check on my mother yesterday NOBODY knows how to transfer the call Called earlier today Told my mother was transfered to D Floor WITHOUT me her PROXY being notified Tried getting a hold of D floor THEY DONT ANSWER So not only do they not return calls, they don't tell you what is going on and my mother is in for SHORT term rehab NOT long term After reading reviews and having friends who've worked here I must say I'm unimpressed and quite frankly disgusted so far. Now onto violations. I was not given any form of documentation stating reason she's been admitted, nor given a written statement of legal rights, NOT. Notified of room transfer, or given a medical plan on her treatment. ALL of which will be addressed TODAY when I visit Been calling for 2 hours now NO ANSWER from desk 10:03 Pm

Fantastic experience: Well I went to visit a dear friend of mine by the name of Robin Kelly the place is clean that's my first time and so far so good..on floor 2B I noticed the charge nurse was on her cellphone the whole visit.. I have worked in facilities as this one many times and that charge nurse should be more attentive to the residents

Positive experience: My mother has been here 1 day so far, went up yesterday when she was admitted for rehab, Tried calling admissions office NO call back so not a very good look right now, Last night tried getting an update on my mother and was left with a sort of mixed feeling as they seem to not like calling back. Tried getting ahold of floor 4 going on 20 minutes now to check in on her NO ANSWER. Here it is at 10:27am I have not had an update on my mother, have had zero communication with staff regarding her care plan have not been kept in loop and I'm starting to think sending her here is a bad idea and that she'd be better off just doing outpatient PT. Only reason I haven't argued the decision is due to my friend once working here and having nothing but good things to say. Floor 4 needs better answering services if I go up today and can't speak to a CASE Manager like I REQUESTED to be called yesterday She'll most likely be taken home or I'll send her back to Saint Joes

Negative experience: I feel a one star is generous! There are only three people at this establishment that have consistently provided excellent care to my son while he has been in this facility. My son has been left to sit in his filthy diaper, he has paralysis, for two and five hours causing skin breakdown. The five hour timeframe is probably going to be justified because it was late to middle of the night, is it really too busy to clean him up within a reasonable time frame? He has had food withhelp, along with water. He has been denied his medications. And he has had a band around his leg with feces on it for well over a week, no one can find him a clean one. If you want your family member to have excellent care, keep them home with you. My son lives in NY alone without his extended family. My son has had food, water, medication and basic humane treatment for the majority of his care with it having escalated this past week.

Fantastic experience: I felt the place was very nice didn't have the normal elderly home smell and feel .was relatively clean and seemed like the staff was very friendly and seemed to be concerned for the patients .didn't visit long but seemed nice as could be for what we saw left a few requests for services for eye exams for our loved one hope to be taken care of in a prompt fashion. Fantastic experience: Staff were friendly and helpful. Residents I saw were dressed and clean. They had breakfast and were out in social areas. The building was bright and clean, and decorated nicely for the holidays.

Feel free to reach out to the concierge team anyday, weekends included to provide anything you need to have your dad enjoy his stay.

Negative experience: There are a select few nursing staff here who are compassionate and skillful, and truly incredible at their jobs. This facility and their treatment of patients big picture though... to say abusive and neglectful would be a grave understatement. I caution you with every ounce of my heart, to NEVER send a loved one here. If you have no other choice, keep detailed records and keep a very close eye on their healthcare and wellness. I would not wish the 'Bishop experience' on my worst enemy. Trust the reviews, read the published news articles and DOH violations from the past 3+ years, and you'll find everything you need to know about why NOT to choose Bishop. Neglect to the highest, most inhumane degree. Bishop leadership should be deeply ashamed, and should turn this place around immediately. The Syracuse community deserves better.

Negative experience: Absolutely terrible my mother was hoisted into her bed on her first day and they cut her open and never documented it or let her family know. It's so bad she has an infection with antibiotics.

Positive experience: Today, was great. (Sat) New CNA introduced herself to us. She was wonderful. My memory is bad tonight begins with K. (I apologize)Very personable. Yesterday, (Friday afternoon ) terrible. My mIL left in soiled diaper since night b4 while 3 CNA’s huddled behind desk chit chatting amongst ea. other. Then when they did get to her, they changed diaper, left her in the bed and hospital gown, and told her it’s late (1:30 and we don’t have time) while i was talking to Lorraine and Chris right across the hall. Please, please bring Tamu back. Wherever she is!! She is awesome! Her level of care is superb. Also, keeping the same staff is essential for people with dementia, and other conditions. Ruchetta and Marvin I can’t speak high enough about. Please address this issue of leaving her in her bed all day. This is 2nd time this week. The staff said no Hoyer on the floor last time this happened. This is not an excuse. Go get one.

Negative experience: My mom has been in this facility for over 2 years. I live several states away and my older brother takes care of her health issues with Bishop. She has moved rooms a few times since originally getting here. Upon visiting her today, all of her comfort stuffed animals and pictures are missing. They were not here the other day either. She doesn't have her glasses or her false teeth either. Where are these things? I usually stay quiet because my brother takes care of things, but I can't anymore. My mom lays in a bed 24/7 and since I have visited her twice, no one has come in to check up on her. Her finger nails are way too long. Last time I visited, her oxygen machine alarm was going off for 15 minutes before anyone came to change it. I'm very disappointed in the care she is getting here at Bishop. I wish I lived closer so I could make sure she is cared for better. That's the reason for a 2 star review.

Fantastic experience: I love bringing a little bit of my Art Studio to share with the residents. I love the environment! Everyone is friendly
Fantastic experience: Things seem to have changed recently. Tatyana the head nurse in the 2nd floor as well as the aids seem to go out of there way to help my brother out, and take time to answer my questions. I went up to visit today, and the woman from physical Therapy went beyond every expectation to take care of him, and went beyond her duties to make him happy. Best experience I have had at the Bishop. I hope the nightside is going to follow in the dayside footsteps.

Positive experience: . I found todays staff, upon entering the building, seemed a little more settled, which gave me a sense of, they knew what they were doing there. Instead of looking out in space. They seemed to have it down Seemed very competent, That gives the visitor a warm fuzzy feeling. Fantastic experience: Staff was extremely responsive to resident issues and very friendly.
Positive experience: Occupational and physical therapy are excellent. Nursing and CNA staff is often over worked due to short staffing. Add more CNA schedule as there are many very dedicated men and women working with difficult schedules and the challenging conditions.
Negative experience: They don’t return phone calls or emails to relatives. They lost an important piece of medical equipment and don’t respond to inquiries about the whereabouts. Lost brand new clothes. Unable to get through to the operator when they left an unattended amnesia patient at a doctors appointment Nurses and aides on the floor doing their best with limited staff.
