Wilmington Treatment Center was founded in 1984 by a group of individuals whose lives had been affected by the disease of addiction. Over the ensuing three decades, the program has remained committed to providing the best possible treatment via evidence-based programming, research-supported methods and modalities, and personalized care that is delivered with both compassion and respect.
At Wilmington Treatment Center, comprehensive treatment is provided by multidisciplinary teams of talented and dedicated professionals, including our medical director who is certified by the American Board of Preventative Medicine specializing in Addiction Medicine, licensed masters-level clinicians, certified substance abuse counselors, an addiction medicine specialist, a licensed recreational therapist, registered nurses, physician assistants, and other specialists. Licensed as a hospital and featuring a medical director who has experience as an oncologist, internist, and general practitioner, our program is uniquely prepared to care for patients whose chemical dependency is accompanied by complicated medical needs.
In addition to individual, group, and family therapy, Wilmington Treatment Center also features a robust recreation therapy program and daily leisure recreation activities. Among the many specialized treatment opportunities at Wilmington Treatment Center are Foundations Training for individuals who are experiencing chronic pain, the Young Adult Group for patients aged 18 to 30, the Middle Adult Group, and Operation Recovery for military members, veterans, and first responders.
At Wilmington Treatment Center, we have developed specialized programming to combat the opioid epidemic that continues to plague individuals and families throughout North Carolina and across the nation. From medically monitored inpatient detox through personalized care at the residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient levels, we offer a full spectrum of comprehensive opioid addiction treatment services. Our programming is specifically designed to empower men and women to escape the chains of opioid dependence and live healthier drug-free lives.

Wilmington Treatment Center: Reviews
Fantastic experience: "I cannot express enough how transformative my experience at the Wilmington Treatment Center has been." The facility provided a nurturing environment that allowed me to delve into the root causes of my addiction. The counselors were not just knowledgeable but also deeply compassionate, guiding me through a journey of self-discovery and understanding. Through their support, I gained invaluable insights into my addiction, enabling me to address both the internal struggles and external triggers that had been hindering my sobriety. The tools and coping mechanisms I acquired during my time there have been instrumental in helping me maintain a sober lifestyle. The comprehensive approach of the center helped me not only comprehend my addiction better but also equipped me with the necessary skills to handle life's challenges with resilience. I am immensely grateful for the life-changing experience and would highly recommend the Wilmington Treatment Center to anyone seeking genuine support and effective recovery."
Fantastic experience: Awesome facility but be aware of the homes they recommend. A Safe Place with Hannah Martin who has Aids is an abusive & one sided house. She won't even contact me about my stuff I left she striped searched me for no reason she & her home are bullies.
Fantastic experience: The alumni group for WTC has been a very valuable part of my recovery, especially after leaving active treatment. Kelly Mulrenin is a great organizer of the group and always has an open arms approach whenever I have a question. And the softball league and monthly breakfast meetings are amazing.
Fantastic experience: I am a success stories due to the help and support from WTC. I truly loved pretty much the whole program. The staff was very attentive and very very supportive. The counselors are there for you. They have good ideas/information/self knowledge for you while you're there and for when you leave. Something I loved was the fact that some of the staff have walked in our shoes and fully understand our situation. And what brought us there. As of with our recovery the journey can have a few bumps along the way. Of course detox wasn't all that much fun. But well worth it on completion. Then you moved to PHP. Where you do classes that are definitely a necessity in learning to live and understand your addiction, sobriety, and most definitely yourself. The housing in PHP was awesome. They really put thought, considered and the details you would need to have in your living quarters. The daily schedule may seem a little rigorous/tirering but in the end you will come to realize it's exactly the way you needed it to be. All in all I'd have to say it was a hell of a good beginning program/rehabilitation/skills learning to live a sober life and stay sober. It 100% saved MY life! When everybody else had given up on me... WTC didn't. Which I am wholeheartedly thankful for! But the main main thing is... You definitely have to do it for yourself. Not for anybody else. And definitely don't ever think you're not worth it or give up on yourself. Because you CAN do it and you are 100% worth it!!
Fantastic experience: So thankful for WTC and staff!! Especially the counselors and techs! Today I have another chance to stay sober!!
Fantastic experience: I was treated quite well at WTC and have not even thought about touching alcohol since receiving treatment. At age 67 I can't afford to fool around with my health. Simply put, my drinking was killing me--quickly. However, it goes way beyond abstinence...it kicked into high gear a process where I am becoming a better human being and contribute even more to my community. There are a number of places to seek treatment but I can only endorse WTC. If you or someone you know needs help, please look into treatment either there or elsewhere...don't wait.
Fantastic experience: AMAZING PLACE TO GET WELL! I am forever in their emotional debt with the staff whom are so caring. (mimi and I had problems. She needs to humble herself working with people like us, just saying!) Otherwise, very pleased and happy with the care I received. Remember to SHINE ON YALL!!!! WE GOT THIS!
Fantastic experience: I can not say enough about the education I received while I was there . It was a very enlightening experience. I feel very confident about my sobriety . The counselors are wonderful, especially Ed . Ms.Grace is delightful also . My councler , Tiphani was a power warrior. I wasn’t there for the comfort or the food . The dorms are so nice. The campus is wonderful. My experience overall great .
Fantastic experience: I went to this place a couple of times and I mean it’s all around a great place, the food is great imo also the counselors don’t give up on people which is huge for someone that’s had a hard run and is feeling shameful. I’ve been sober since February 2022 and with daily use of the tools taught to me by Wilmington treatment center I’ll be sober tomorrow as well. Great place would recommend.
Fantastic experience: I have tons of respect for the Counselors, Techs, and Nurses that work here. The whole Rec Therapy department is Amazing, and the Discharge planners are great. These people are professional and they care. It's a process. If you come here stay away from the complainers, they're usually in the Gazebos first thing in the morning
Fantastic experience: For everyone bashing this place you haven't been anywhere truly awful lol I've been through WTC (Wilmington Technical College) and had an awesome experience. 28 days and honestly came out of there feeling pretty good about everything. The food wasn't gourmet. They don't make it AA/NA-centric but it worked for me. When I tell the story I always say I had fun in rehab lol
Fantastic experience: WTC truly saved my life! I've been to quite a few rehabs before but this is the first time anyone took the time to explain my diagnoses to me, explain what a dysfunctional family or unstable home life could do to a very young child and how that trauma could affect them for life. I was told (in the past) that I had PTSD, however, I now know I have CPTSD (Compex PTSD). I have four binders of Handouts that I accumulated in the 35 days I was there! Was the food the best? Not all the time but that's to be expected at ANY Institution. The Staff was willing to help any way they could..I saw people fail and I saw people thrive; it's all how you you see the glass of water, half empty or half full
Fantastic experience: Best treatment center in North Carolina. The facilities were in excellent condition, clean and very nice! The staff was amazing. They saved my life!!!!
Fantastic experience: The staff is amazing and really have an understanding of what the patients are going through. Their compassionate care is palpable all the way through treatment!
Fantastic experience: WTC have wonderful, caring staff. Patients are supported every step of the way. This is a great facility and program and I highly recommend it if you or someone you know needs help.
Fantastic experience: WTC helped me save my life. I was a patient in 2014 and the staff was caring and professional. They are a great place and continue to help those in need today.
Fantastic experience: WTC is fantastic facility. The highly qualified staff cares about patients and helps change lives every day. The food is even good.
Fantastic experience: I have friend's who young adult children have turned their lives away from addition after going through the ILM Treatment Center. They have moved forward and are now married with children, and are thriving while helping others along with their journey.
Fantastic experience: WTC has just finished up Employee Appreciation week! This is just one example of many of why I love working here. Each day a fun event was planned that included each campus as well as patients! The next event will be our spectacular Holiday event in December! These are just 2 examples of the many fun activities that are planned by our HR department and held throughout the year! How refreshing to work for a company that promotes comradery among its employees as well as the clients we are honored to provide care for!
Fantastic experience: Very simply, WTC saved my life. I was so lost and so broken and ready for a change in my life and from day 1, minute 1 and all the way through my stay I felt loved, valued and safe. Was it an easy place to be? No. No one cares for rules and structure after living an unmanageable life. However, I really believe that you get out of WTC what you put into it. I was there for a reason and WTC gave me the foundation and education I needed to start out in recovery. I will always be grateful to ALL of the staff for doing what they do and for changing and saving lives one at a time.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been in recovery and struggling for over a decade. WTC provided a safe environment and the resources to begin the healing process. The staff also helped prepare me for what comes after treatment…the real world. I am proud to say I have been clean and sober for 2 years next week! I am present in my families life, I’m a good employee, and have true friends today!! Thanks WTC for a jumpstart back to a life worth living!!
Fantastic experience: I spent some time at this facility back in October and November of 2019. This place truly saved my life! Not only did I get the help I needed while I was there, but I also made some great friends along the way. Even after I left inpatient treatment, I still received a tremendous amount of love and support from their out patient treatment program, and from their amazing alumni group. I am truly grateful for the wonderful experience I had at WTC. I honestly would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for this place. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction this is the best place to start on the path of healing.
Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend this program to anyone struggling with addiction. They offer very effective coping skills and education about the disease. The staff are one hundred percent genuine and care a great deal about the patients. The facility is phenomenal and everyone from the therapists, medical staff and techs show care through getting to know those in treatment and providing guidance. It really is a safe, non-judgemental environment to work through issues and to reclaim your life. Just like anything else though, you have to become open to receive what is being taught and put forth the effort to get the most out of it. Wilmington Treatment Center played a HUGE part in saving my life.
Fantastic experience: Going to WTC was best decision I have ever made. Each and every person there helped save my life in one way or another. A special thanks to the staff and Alumni for the help and support in and out of the treatment center.
Fantastic experience: I got the tools I needed to start living a life of Sobriety. Great group of people who work there. My conceller Chris was awesome and Mary really helped get me through things that kept me relapsing over and over with mdr. WTC gives us what we need not what we want. I have not wanted anything else to use sense leaving. I continue on the path of truth with my HP today, because of the love and support I was given by the patients and staff at WTC. Love you
Fantastic experience: WTC is absolutely the best treatment center I have ever attended. The staff from top to bottom was fantastic. There was not only group counseling but individual as well. Lots of focus on addressing what got you there and what tools to use to combat those things. I've never felt better about my sobriety. The Alumni support group is amazing and has been so very useful since leaving. I would highly recommend WTC for mild to severe substance abuse and general mental health needs. Clarence.
Fantastic experience: I went through the doors in October 2016. I was lost and broken. I desperately needed help! I went through detox for several days then went to PHP. It was here that i began to take everything in that they offered. I went to small group with a counselor and a few peers. I did acupuncture for opiates. I did brain entrainment. I took notes and listened. I learned here that i have PTSD and got special classes on how to deal with this. I learned yoga. I went to AA and NA meetings. You will get 3 hot meals a day, which is descent. If you were like me while using you weren't eating much at all so this is a blessing. The staff here taught me what my triggers were, how to recognize them and handle the issue without using. WTC saved my life! The staff here is friendly and a lot of them are still in my life today! If you are serious about getting clean I would highly recommend coming here! I completed the 28 day program and then went on to do IOP (intensive out patient) for several more weeks. Now I am Vice President of alumni here. I am at WTC most days in the alumni office. I go to detox and PHP every week to talk to other addicts and try to give back what was given to me! I owe WTC everything for giving me a life that i never knew was possible. Thank you guys all from the bottom of my ❤. Much LOVE. RECOVERY is POSSIBLE!
Fantastic experience: I have to give WTC a A plus rating for the most part. The COVID craze did make being at the center harder but, that was due to COVID not WTC. I do would have to say that allowing the Alumni in to speak and be apart of WTC , is a major plus that you dont see many places unless it is a AA / NA meeting . I plan to live a fantastic sober life due to my time at WTC .
Fantastic experience: So grateful for WTC. They helped me find myself and I learned so much about my addiction to who I am. They staff are awesome but I'm sorry yall, Chris is the best counselor at PHP ❤❤ I met so many people who I became friends with and help with my recovery. I would definitely recommend WTC to anyone who needs help. I hit rock bottom and I live 2hrs away. They were willing to come get me if I didn't have transportation! I'm better than I ever have been in years and I'm working on 60 days clean!!!
Fantastic experience: Dude, it was rehab. The negative comments kind of crack me up. The staff was great, the food was great, and if you know you need to get help, this is the place to go. You will meet fellow addicts who understand what you are going through, and you will have honest conversations you never thought you could possibly have. In two days I had friend who knew things about me I could never has shared before. Save your own life, and then you can save your family.
Fantastic experience: I graduated from WTC. My sober/clean date is March 9, 2017. WTC and their staff was there for me and cared for me at my lowest. I was very, very sick from my addiction. They provided for me a safe and caring environment to begin to heal. They taught me how to cope. Gave me the tools that I needed to become a clean and sober member of society. They gave me the opportunity get my life back in order. It is a process. It takes desire, commitment and hard work. Sometimes it is painful. I can honestly say that WTC and it's staff provided me with exactly what I needed to get on the right path. The path of recovery. I'm forever grateful. I'm now happy, joyous and free
Fantastic experience: I had been to two other treatments centers in the past and by far I got the most out of this program. The group's and counselors were ausome. There was also plenty of activities, beach trips, volleyball, and a nice gym. I left in a very good place in my head with a great start to my recovery. It is a smoking facility for those who smoke. They have a nice snack bar with ice Coffee and smoothies but the food their is so so they need to improve on the food, the food was disappointing but an excellent place to start your journey in recovery if you are ready, I highly recommend this facility.
Fantastic experience: WTC is fantastic facility. They gave me a second chance on life. I took full advantage of everything they have to offer. After detox I was able to talk to my wife just about everyday. I went kayaking, to the beach while at my stay. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The rooms are nice. You have access to a gym. You become family with everyone. I recommend WTC to anyone. I was able to get my best friend to check himself in after I returned home. He will be finishing up in 9 days. He is also speaking very highly of them. If I ever were to relapse, I wouldn't think twice about going back!!!!
Fantastic experience: Very amazing experience! Absolutely loved it there! I wish I could have been approved for longer time. The food's pretty good but the most important thing was the great classes and everything I learned there. I am still sober and I left there 2 weeks ago.
Fantastic experience: Great staff and programs. WTC provided me with a new beginning in life. They also have followed up with me for the past several months to make sure I'm good. The follow up and alumni program are vital to my success.
Fantastic experience: This place saved my life ! The counselors are beyond exceptional, And the wide variety of groups and classes was beyond anything I ever could have imagined. Myself and my family will forever be grateful to Wilmington treatment center, The healing has begun
Fantastic experience: WTC saved my life. I agree, the food isn't great, neither was my nightly turn down service, and room service was not up to par, oh wait, wait, I wasn't there for gourmet food, fluffy pillows or a vacation. I was there because I was dying. Literally dying from my addiction. I wasn't happy every moment I was there but I came out of there with my LIFE! I learned about all aspects of my disease. I learned how to reach out for help and where to go for help. The staff is an amazing group of people who truly care about their patients. I'm so thankful for my life today and I wouldn't have the life I have today if I hadn't gone to Wilmington Treatment Center.
Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience WTC. The counselors and staff are passionate and dedicated to helping the suffering addict. I left with all the tools needed to continue my path of recovery. I highly recommend anyone that is seriously wanting to begin their path toward a happier life to consider WTC!!
Fantastic experience: I just logged in a year of sobriety and I couldn't have done it without the help and support from WTC. I live 8 hours away but I had heard of a friend who went there and she said it was wonderful and she was right. Before I found this place my life was a disaster. They coached me on the skills I needed set my mind on the right path. They encouraged all the right things at just the right time. I made friends there that will be my friends for life, most of all, I made friends with myself. Thanks to all the staff and doctors that helped me on my journey. I have a new life and your care and concern facilitated that; I will never forget you!
Fantastic experience: I'm so grateful to all the staff at Wilmington Treatment Center for helping me achieve the kind of life I have always wanted but was unable to achieve because of my addiction to drugs and alcohol. I just couldn't quit on my own no matter how hard I tried. I came to WTC with an open mind and finally ready to get honest with myself and others. I was willing to do whatever I needed to do to get and stay sober, because I was willing to do whatever I needed to get drunk and high. Today I am still clean and sober and no longer have the desire to put mind altering chemicals in my body. WTC put together a great after care plan for me so I had an even greater chance at sobriety success. My insurance wouldn't cover SAIOP so I chose to do volunteer work at Communicare of Cumberland County in exchange for free IOP classes. So glad I did. Now I have a part-time job here running The Recovery Resource Center and started my own AA group. I found my purpose and passion in life. Thank you WTC!! UDATE 5/10/19 STILL CLEAN AND SOBER!
Fantastic experience: This facility saved my life. The staff are great and offer much wisdom on how to recover from addiction. I recommend Wilmington Treatment Center to anyone struggling with addiction. They teach many ways to live free from drugs and alcohol and also how to enjoy life clean.
Fantastic experience: I know several people that have gone through this facility. My own family included so I feel unable to give some pretty accurate insight . They offer the skills and personal assistance necessary to those that are ready to receive it. Their care & support go well beyond the day you leave. Not everyone has the network needed just succeed in sobriety once they're back in the daily grind however WTC a wonderful connection well after.
Fantastic experience: Wilmington Treatment changed my life. I've been a patient twice and each time the staff, doctors and nurses were there to make my treatment and recovery the best possible. The facility itself is incredicable and made me feel comfortable. This past time which will be my last time, the staff went out of their way to make me more comfortable and open to new things and ideas. The Alumni is AWSOME. I never felt judged by anyone and always had a ear to listen or shoulder to cry on. The experience is defiantly what you make it, we all go there for a reason, and if you take the AWSOME program they offer seriously, there will be a success story at the end. It doesn't matter how many times it takes, what matters is your recovery and what you gain out of treatment and the experience Wilmington Treatment Center offers. WTC is a great facility that will educate you on the tools needed to have a successful recovery. I'm one of MANY that can voche that this Treatment center saved my life!!!
Fantastic experience: My daughter was there and received top notch treatment. I think highly of the counselors that go above and beyond their call of duty to support and ensure that each patient has the skills needed to rebuild their lives. They also give support to the families as a whole in facilitating healing and rebuilding family relationships torn apart by addiction.
Fantastic experience: I went to WTC back in 2014 and when I was discharged I went to Boca Raton Fl. And I had 17 months clean. Yeah I did relapse but not by any fault of them. I still keep in touch with people who work there and they are very caring. I would recommend this treatment center to anyone
Fantastic experience: The staff was very respectful and I was well taken of. I highly recommend anyone with a Substance Abuse problem consider coming to Wilmington Treatment. The food was great considering in my active addiction I didn't have any food because my money went to my habit. For this I am very grateful. My Counselor Charles treated me like a person and not a junkie. He helped me work on many dark issues from my past and process them. I definetly left WTC a better person and healthier than when I came in!
Fantastic experience: Not only has my family member received help and encouragement, the staff have been there for me and the rest of our family. This is the most knowledgeable, warm group! I am so thankful for what they have done for my family. It is apparent that they genuinely care. Thank you to the entire staff but to name a few Tony, Kelly, Lyndee, Jeff. I find comfort in knowing that Wilmington Treatment Center and it’s staff are helping to encourage and lift my family member up and on to a better life. Thanks again!
Fantastic experience: Wilmington treatment center’s outpatient program has been patient, understanding, loving and unimaginably helpful for me. I’ve seen both Tony and Tammy slowly but surely change lives of those in these rooms, and have provided incredible support for the days where I have walked through the door in tears, or with walls. Kelly and Lyndee contribute dearly to the safe zone that this center offers, and if a patient is genuinely desiring a lifestyle change and a manageable life, I would recommend WTC outpatient center to anyone! Someone in my A.A. meeting referred me here, and I am grateful beyond words. I feel like I am slowly being rebuilt into the person I want to be and that I never believed I could be. This process is undoubtedly painful, but the WTC staff individually and together have provided a place for me to be as vulnerable as I need to be, and to learn how to accomplish the smallest of tasks and applaud myself for them. From my experience, we are all in this together at WTC. Also, there’s nothing like free coffee and a vending machine in times of physical and emotional disparity.
Fantastic experience: Wilmington Treatment Center is so Awesome! The staff is Excellent and they go above and beyond to help any way possible. They taught me how to live with the deadly disease of addiction one day at a time! Thanks WTC!
Fantastic experience: I have a lot of respect for the staff at WTC. It's tough to minister to such a diverse array of addicts. I am alcoholic and had never been exposed to persons with drug addictions. It was an eye opener for me. The counsellors were amazing. I believe that is due in part to their own recovery journeys. I met so many patients who were struggling as I was with alcoholism. It was comforting to fellowship with them, especially at the end of the day when we were back at the house. The curriculum was well crafted to meet the needs of each demographic. One of the highlights of my day was the bible study group. It was the perfect way to begin the day by centering myself spiritually. I am grateful that WTC was there when I most needed this level of support in my recovery. Thank you and God Bless.
