Positive experience: I’m not sure if these guys are open. I’ve called and emailed them several times with a referral but never heard back.

Fantastic experience: I am so incredibly grateful to my care team, Josh and Noah, they listened to my concerns each session and provided exercises and modifications that worked for me while showing progress for my injuries. When I first came in I was in so much pain it was hard to get more than a few hours of sleep each night. After 12 weeks of physio I was noticing a significant difference in the pain I experienced day-to-day and can get a full nights sleep. Although I'm not yet 100% I can feel myself getting stronger and my range of motion improving. A great suggestion was to talk to my neurologist about a medication to help with the inflammation as this would see even better results, I'm happy to say that is working! I highly recommend Emeryville Sports Physical Therapy.

The way Or and his team handled the mishap at the start, and turned it around to delivery top class service shows that this business is one that can be relied upon. Now changing my 4 star review to 5 stars. Highly recommend. update Feb 2025: Had a good call with the Clinical Director, Or, who was kind and curious about learning about what happened with my intake. I appreciated the throughtful approach to improving the experience for new clinic patience. I cannot get service with them due to insurance mis-match, but I'm rating them 4 stars because they clearly have a great system for continuous improvement and delivery a great customer experience. original review Jan 2025: My review is based on my new-patient intake experience only in January 2025. I called, made an appointment for two weeks out. Arrived at the appointment time, and they told me they didn't have any record of my intake. The front desk person wasn't there when I arrived and a PT was playing that role, so I'm guessing they may use virtual assistants when over-capacity with the phones and something got lost in translation. This was a bummer because it set me back starting my PT another couple of weeks as it's not easy to find a PT quickly.

Picture this: years ago, in the heat of a college football game, I had a shoulder mishap that left me feeling like my arm had gone on vacation without me. Fast forward 25-plus years of agonizing pain, minimal workouts, and some unwanted weight gain later – cue the dramatic music! Cut to a few months back when I finally decided to kickstart my self-improvement journey. After a visit to the doc, a physical, and a sprinkle of determination, I found myself face-to-face with the potential miracle-worker – Physical Therapy. At first, I was skeptical. What could PT really do for me? I had already mentally prepared myself for the whole shebang – X-rays, MRIs, surgery, and the intimidating rehab process. But then, like a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds, I met Amy, my PT superhero! Let me paint you a picture: Amy, a powerhouse in a petite package, with a smile so infectious, it could probably even make a grumpy cat crack a grin. From day one, I poured my heart out to her, feeling lost in a sea of pain and frustration. But Amy, oh Amy, she was like a beacon of hope in my stormy sea of discomfort. With her expertise and adorable personality, she guided me through the rough patches, helping me push through the pain and discover a whole new side of mobility I thought was lost to me forever. By the sixth week, the pain had lessened, my range of motion had expanded, and I was feeling like a brand-new person who had just stumbled upon the fountain of youth. Amy, my savior, my PT angel, I cannot thank her enough for her unwavering support and guidance. As I bid farewell to Emeryville Sports Physical Therapy and venture forth on my continued journey to wellness, I will dearly miss those Wednesday late-afternoon sessions filled with Amy’s encouraging smiles, her expert coaching, and her magical healing touch. Fantastic experience: I saw Mica at ESPT after total knee replacement surgery. I found her to be exceptionally skilled at listening to me and assessing my particular challenges. She developed a meaningful set of home exercises for me, and was kind and supportive along the way. The location of ESPT is very convenient to Berkeley, where we live.

Fantastic experience: By "loved it" I mean Physical Therapists know their stuff. Did not "love" the pain so much, but progress can sometimes be painful. Very convenient and very nice people. I first thought it was odd that they were on a 2nd floor (wondered how those with leg problems would climb steps), but found there is an elevator.

Fantastic experience: Awesome staff!! Very attentive. Best physical therapy place I have experienced and I've been to many in the Bay Area. Recovering from a lower back spine fusion surgery. They're very compassionate and inspiring. I've worked with Or and Roger, both have a unique approach. Both very knowledgeable, understanding, sweet and give great advice. Very perfessional. They've helped me so much! I did the work, but they listened and guided me in the right direction. They know their stuff. All the staff are great! Jessica makes you feel very welcomed.. Fantastic experience: I've had a very positive experience at Emeryville Sports Physical Therapy. I started PT at the height of the pandemic in November of 2020. I had broken my ankle when I was hit by a car on my bike. Then nearly 9 months later, I had surgery on my ankle. Connie, the P Therapist always had a plan and kept me moving the entire session. I had to work and she was always ready with a plan and very encouraging. I would not have made the progress I have made, over the course of more than a year, without her expertise. She showed me visuals on her ipad of what tendons and ligaments were involved that were fascinating. I also saw one of the other therapists for a pinched nerve in my neck. He had excellent massage skills and was also very prepared with a plan. I appreciated the measures taken by all staff to be safe from Covid and the fact that the personnel got vaccines as soon as possible. I highly recommend ESPT. I went to another place and had to walk out because it was too small, crowded and without fresh air. The location of ESPT is great with a convenient parking lot and the view out the window of the Bay is inspiring. I kept my eyes on the horizon.

Fantastic experience: Emeryville Sports Physical Therapy has provided me with awesome service! Over the past 17 months, I have had caring and competent PT from my physical therapist, and everyone else in the office. All safety measures regarding Covid were followed; my health and well being was always front and center. And best of all, my arthritic knees are moving better than before. I continue to improve my mobility and strength. I can't say enough great things about ESPT!

Fantastic experience: I heard about Emeryville physical therapy from a friend of mine who had been involved with me in a surfing accident. He damaged ligaments in his shoulders and was brought back to a full recovery. I tried everything I could to heal both of my ankles which had been sprained several times in a row. Unfortunately everything that I tried wasn’t getting me back into the water. From the moment I met Or, he made me feel confident that I would be able to surf again. After three months of hard work I was able to get back in the water. I went back to him a second time for more training and exercises because I wanted to get back to hiking. As a lifelong athlete I can attest to my experience being incredible! I am very grateful to this day that my friend found this clinic and recommended it to me!

I'm working with Xiomara now, and she has helped me understand why my pain comes and goes sporadically and maintain my active lifestyle in our remote physical therapy sessions. I'm really impressed with her attentiveness even though we are remote. And, the front desk staff are great! So polite, very helpful in figuring out insurance issues, and always happy to help. Couldn't recommend a place more. :)

Fantastic experience: This place is amazing! Everyone was so nice. I went there because of my left shoulder pain. Roger the physical therapy assistant was so knowledgeable, informative and patient. I got many good tips from him and it helped a lot with my pain. I strongly recommend this place.

Fantastic experience: I recently graduated from 6 months of physical therapy with Oliver Mok after an ACL reconstruction. I initially chose Emeryville Sports PT because they were on a list from my doctor (Dr. Robert Eppley @ Cal Sports Ortho) and because they are conveniently located off 80. Also, because I liked the look of their small but clean studio. They have a decent selection of equipment that was especially helpful during COVID gym lockdowns. (Unfortunately,) this wasn't my first rodeo: I've worked with numerous trainers and physical therapists over the years, so I have a pretty good idea of what I want and how my PT should go. There's always a learning curve to starting with someone new, and Oliver was great at understanding my goals, strengths, and limitations that needed to be addressed and developing a program to challenge me. I hope I won't have to use them again any time soon, but I definitely recommend them to anyone else who needs to recover from injury quick—just 6 months after surgery, I was back on skis! A tribute to the great work of my doctor and my PT. Thanks guys!

Fantastic experience: Robert Lin and (Colin I think) helped me feel better. My pain has decreased a lot. I never realized how much a difference stretching makes, if you do it the right way, and know the right stretches. Good office staff and friendly, and a nice view from the office. Easy parking. Open Saturdays!

Fantastic experience: Bob is the most knowledgeable physical therapist I have worked with. I have had several injuries since 2006 and Bob was able to show me the most effective exercises for my rehab. He also has a ton of experience and knowledge. I would highly recommend him and his staff.

Fantastic experience: I was experiencing chronic right shoulder pain and went to see a doctor. The doctor performed an ultrasound scan and diagnosed it to be right shoulder impingement. Through a referral from the doctor, I was introduced to Emeryville Sports Physical Therapy (ESPT). I promptly made an appointment to evaluate and treat my shoulder pain and I was glad that I did. The staff at ESPT is experienced, professional and very knowledgeable. I got acquainted with the exercise program utilizing foam roller and elastic band. I also received written instructions for practice at home. After a number of visits, I made great progress and my pain was nearly gone. However, I still do frequent shoulder exercises at home and I will continue to follow the instructions I received from ESPT for as long as I live. I highly recommend ESPT.

Fantastic experience: I couldn't have asked for better help after cracking a fibula than I received at ESPT. Marcus did more than enable my stellar recovery -- he pinpointed some old injuries/misalignments that could cause more problems in my stability and I'm now better than I have been for years. Fantastic experience: My experience with Bob began with him asking me to spell his name backwards. LOL. I figured from there this would be fun. My 12 week session included the staff learning and listening to my every weekend expeditions of my adventures with my daughter and softball and BOB (spelled backwards) supporting her program. As soon as I walked in the door, "The Temptations" started playing on Pandora especially for me and I dipped my hands in paraffin. Every staff member listened to what I said my pains were and not what they wanted to tell me were my problems. I truly appreciated my experience. Even though my insurance only covered a short time period a huge amount of treatment was covered. Hopefully after my evaluation I am offered more treatment and I recommend not only myself to return, but ANYONE that has a chance to utilize ESPT services that they go there. After about 5 visits i made great progress and didnt need further treatment. The staff were frendly and Marcus who treated me was very professional. I Recommend them.

The staff and the personnel are first rate, under the directorship and clinical guidance of Dr. Bob Baker. The Director is knowlegeable, resourceful and result-oriented. This provides continuity in the process of health-care delivery and helps create a feeling of community and wholesomeness for those of us who need therapy services. After the therapy sessions, each patient goes home with a well delineated and well designed set of exercises to do at home, so that therapy becomes an ongoing process that empowers the individual. Fantastic experience: I went in to see Bob for a neck injury and in the very first session he helped me understand physiologically what was going on and explained how the exercises helped heal the injury. I felt in charge of the process which helped tremendously in the recovery. While there for the neck problem I also asked him about a chronic lower back pain that had proved intractable after many visits to other clinics and chiropractors, and I had resigned myself to living with it. Same thing: I have a series of exercises that is now part of my daily routine. No neck pain, no lower back pain.

Fantastic experience: My PCP sent me to ESPT prior to sending me to a Orthopedic surgeon for a balky left shoulder that was keeping me from sleeping. After talking to me about what it could do, and what it couldn’t, Dr.Bob starting digging his fingers into my shoulder to feel what was going on. Long story short, his manipulations along with some amazingly light, but targeted, exercises, meant there was no need for an orthroscope or even a MRI. The shoulder is almost as good as it ever was and I’m sure, with continued exercise, it’ll soon be even better. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: As a child and young adult I found physical therapy to be a place that tried to apply expensive equipment via cookie-cutter treatments. That all changed when I finally met Bob at Emeryville Sports Physical Therapy. He truly listened to my problems and concerns and applied his extensive medical knowledge to my situation. Fantastic experience: My physiatrist (rehabilitation specialist) referred me to Emeryville Sports Physical Therapy for back pain. This is the best physical therapy clinic that I ever been to. Unlike a lot of clinics where you only get to see the physical therapist for ten minutes, the physical therapists here really take the time to teach you proper exercise technique, educate you, and answer any questions. I came in with debilitating back pain. After working with Colin for several months, my pain is way down and I feel like I have gotten my life back. Colin's treatments were well-grounded in evidence from research, and he was very up to date on the most recent advances in physical therapy. For example, he taught me how there is usually a psychological component to chronic pain. The brain becomes overprotective, producing pain in order to protect the back from a perceived threat, when in fact there is no real threat to the back. I learned how to silence this false alarm by gradually exposing my back to more and more challenging movements. Understanding this really helped me get over my back pain. Colin is very compassionate. He helped me to keep a positive attitude through all of the ups and downs, which allowed me to persevere and continue making incremental progress. He would often spend extra time over our scheduled appointment when I had lots of questions. He also tailored my exercise program to aid my return to my favorite activities, such as running. The staff at the front desk are friendly and helpful. Shout-out to the office manager, Tiffany, who quickly sorted out any insurance issues that came up.

Fantastic experience: Very good and professional service and care. I had to stop going because my insurance didn't cover it but I wished I could have continued. Colin is very good at his job and he really knows this stuff. Greatly improved my ankle and low back problems.

Fantastic experience: I was introduced to Emeryville Sports Physical Therapy several years ago when living in the Bay area. I had a GREAT experience...everything from the front desk to the actual treatments were first class. I've been to several PT places over the years as I work in the fitness industry, and this is the first clinic that has actually helped heal both the injured area, but also fix whatever is causing it. I truly couldn't recommend this company enough!

Fantastic experience: I was skeptical about the benefits of PT but I had a great experience working with Bob and his team. During my first visit he did an evaluation where he had me walk ten steps while he taped it. We looked at the video together and he pointed out everything that was wrong. He made a more thorough diagnosis in a few minutes from that than my Orthopedist did with an x-ray, a MRI, and a few months.

Fantastic experience: I was in town for an extended period of time for work and wanted to continue my PT treatment for my shoulder... I am so grateful I found ESPT. Colin was great and was able to pick up where my home PT left off. Fantastic experience: Colin McDannel was effective. I tore both of my meniscuses and he put me on a strengthening regimen that was spot on; really helped. I "graduated" from PT and am close to where I was before my injuries. That was nearly a year ago. Hoping I never have to go back but if I need help I would go back to see him.

Fantastic experience: I've seen Bob since early July for a severe frozen shoulder. Bob and his team are very professional, kind, helpful and knowledgeable. He referred me to a shoulder specialist to rule out a laboram tear and has continued to teach me different exercises and stretches. THough progress is slow and sometimes painful, I feel fortunate to have found Bob and am grateful for the inreased range of motion!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Bob Baker's Physical Therapy office is the best office I've been to in all my decades of competitive gymnastics, competitive amateur boxing, and now, wrestling. See photos. Bob's office had assistants with Stanford and UC San Francisco Ph.D.'s and his own competitive wrestling experiences shows that he approaches sports injury from a competitor's point-of-view which is very rare and very much needed! He knows how the body feels when injured and he knows how to remedy it! I am so glad he is back to do the actual physical therapy, hands-on work, because the trigger-release techniques and the deep tissue muscle fiber applications are so very needed for any serious competitive athlete. They need to be performed by a competitive athlete who knows how the muscle must feel and heal with proper technique. Bob's office is the only office I recommend to any of my colleagues who have injuries. Go Bob Go...!

Fantastic experience: My wife and I have both gotten PT help at Emeryville Sports Physical Therapy. This practice is always extremely attentive to individual patient problems and very prompt and flexible in its scheduling of appointments. Bob Baker and his co-workers were very thorough in diagnosing and explaining my own sports-related knee problems, which interfered with being a runner and skier. This knee discomfort was quickly resolved with ESPT help, first though in-office treatments and then with the help of an easy to understand followup plan for recuperative exercise at home. In my wife's own course of treatment for neck and back issues, everyone at ESPT was very patient and thorough as well. Fantastic experience: Bob Baker and his dedicated crew are true quality physical therapists. Dr Baker has an amazing education that makes him a superb diagnostician. He designs a problem and clearly tells you what the goals are. His staff help supervise and implement the program. Definitely a quality provider !!

Negative experience: Go somewhere else

Fantastic experience: Seems like a cruel joke to have a PT place up a flight of stairs (I was on crutches when I first started coming), but word-to-the-wise: there's an elevator in the middle of the building complex! All the staff here were great, and they helped me get back up and biking in no time after my tibial plateau fracture! A very positive experience after a very unfortunate accident.

Positive experience: Fishy billing. I was billed for procedures that I do not feel were necessary and were represented as part of my normal visit. My girlfriend had a similar experience when she was billed for a procedure that was not performed. I don't think they were able to do much for my injury or had the expertise necessary to deal with bicycle-knee injuries.
