At Providence St. Elias Hospital we offer specialized care for people with traumatic brain injury and disorders of consciousness.

At Providence St. Elias Specialty Hospital, our highly specialized team works together to develop a plan that addresses any physical disabilities caused by a traumatic brain injury or disorder of consciousness as well as changes to your language, memory, thinking, behavior and personality.

We know that you’ll have unique medical, cognitive and physical needs. We work to address all these needs and bring your family into your care because we recognize the important role they may have in your healing. We care for them at the same time we care for you.

We have one of the most beautiful hospitals in Alaska and offer private rooms with large windows. We also have a very small ratio of staff to patients. This helps ensure you’ll receive timely, attentive care.

When you come to Providence St. Elias, our goal is to help you function as independently as possible, even as you prepare to move on to the next step in your rehabilitation.

Once you’re admitted, our team will meet with your family to develop a plan of care for your hospital stay. Bringing your loved ones into your care may help them adjust to the suddenness of your illness or injury and may be therapeutic for them as well as for you. Throughout your recovery, we will encourage your family to observe, participate in your care and attend educational sessions regarding your therapy.

As part of your care, we focus on early movement, sensory stimulation and cognitive and language stimulation. Rehabilitation therapy — as well as supportive treatments to prevent infection, malnutrition and other complications — is critical to recovery.
