My dad was Al Hofstede, one of the founders of Catholic Eldercare. So my childhood memories are full of warm moments with Sister Ruth and her dog, Brandy. I’ve seen the evolution of Catholic Eldercare up close—first with Assisted Living, then MainStreet Lodge, and now Transitional Care.

I think my dad would say Catholic Eldercare has exceeded its original vision. I invite you to come and learn what an amazing community Catholic Eldercare has created for our elders—a welcoming space for people to come at different stages of life and really flourish. Most have worked long and hard for many years, and we want this time of life to be rewarding and beautiful.

My dad went from being very mobile and teaching tennis every day to just kind of being that “dear old dad,” dealing with dementia issues. I saw he was starting to give up a bit, sleeping more and eating less. So we started attending Catholic Eldercare by Day twice a week.

It’s been a real difference maker. He enjoys the people, the singing, the food. He remembers the names and faces of the people he’s met here and looks forward to coming. Every Tuesday and Thursday, he’s the first person on the bus to go to Catholic Eldercare. Something in him has been revived and awakened—and that’s a really good feeling.

Living at MainStreet Lodge has kept my aunt Mary in the neighborhood where she grew up. The apartments are lovely and spacious. Mary is very social and being near so many friends has kept her busy—socially, physically and emotionally. She’s always played games and continues to play Bingo. Catholic Eldercare has been great because they have activities going on every day. She’s very stimulated here.
