Fantastic experience: My work with Sam Douglas over the past month has been very helful as I recover from a compression fracture. In that time, I've been able to return to walking in the woods, the activity I've missed the most since my injury. The hikes are short at this point, but with Sam's skillful therapeutic approach, providing not only specific guidance on how to do the exercises correctly, but also support in dealing with the emotional effects of having a significant injury, I feel confident that I can meet my goals.

Fantastic experience: Ryan worked with me to help strengthen my knees weakened by 80 years of wear and tear (including a torn meniscus). Fantastic experience: I highly recommend FYZICAL Grand Lake Oakland. I worked with Ryan (on balance) and Caroline (multiple issues) but from my observation, all the therapists are excellent. What a difference it makes to go to an independently-owned, local physical therapy facility rather than a bureaucratic, hospital-affiliated facility. Fantastic experience: I worked with Ryan for several months in order to improve my balance and flexibility. He was knowledgeable and excellent at providing exercises that were suitable for me. During my this time I successfully improved my ability to move my neck and shoulders. My balance has also improved. I especially appreciate that he didn't feel a need to push me faster than I was able to go. All in all, I'm very satisfied with the experience I had.

Fantastic experience: My last visit to FYZICAL was a result of being in an auto accident. I had occasional tightness in neck and shoulders. I really wanted an evaluation to make sure I was ok. Heather provided a thorough exam and discovered a minor issue that I had not realized! She provided manipulation and simple exercise. I felt better immediately and reassured that all was ok. I appreciate her patience with my anxiety and her skill to exam and treat my problem. We also chatted about balance classes and other exercises to keep me moving! Thank you, Heather, and all the therapists and staff.

Fantastic experience: Over the last 20 yers, my family and I have always found the Fyzical physical therapists to be super knowledgeable, caring and excellent at what they do. It's gotten to the point that I will call them even before I call the referral doctor. If I were to schedule surgery, I would consider scheduling the surgery around the availability of my favorite physical therapists at Fyzical - that's how good they are!

Fantastic experience: Jane Hodges is the best therapist in the East Bay! She is very detail oriented and truly cares about her patients. It’s vital to find a therapist that has a connection with your surgeon so that your care is a team effort. That’s truly the case for me. I’m very happy with my care.

Fantastic experience: All the therapist at Fyzical are excellent. I have worked with many over the years and have never been disappointed. I am recently back in PT for a serious bike accident. Caroline Taylor has been working with me on the physical aspects of my accident, but helps me emotionally everyday I see her with true compassion, encouragement , and understanding. I cannot recommend this practice highly enough!

Fantastic experience: Long time, repeat patient at Taylor and Thornberg, and now Fyzical. I've had excellent patient experiences at Fyzical, but of course it is therapist dependent. Isabelle Chow, my current therapist, has been excellent. Isabelle is treating me for post-operative rehab for rotator cuff surgery. Her focus seems to be to educate me so I am able to do exercises correctly on my own. She's very competent and patient-focused. Thanks Isabelle.

Fantastic experience: I'm seeing Jaclyn. She's careful, observant, inventive. My back is pretty messed up from a fall and from age and from deferred maintenance due to the pandemic. When one method seemed to make things worse for me, Jaclyn catered new exercizes that would work without exacerbating my condition. I like that kind of perception and creativity. She knows what she's doing and that makes me feel safe.

Fantastic experience: My back pain has gotten worse since Covid, I finally reached out for help and called FYZICAL. I had to wait a few weeks to get on their schedule and it was 100% worth the wait. I was connected with Heather Davis and I have improved weekly. Heather taught me how to stretch, and what I was doing that increased my pain. Most important, Heather MOTIVATED me! I do the stretches she shared every day, something my other PT was unable to do. Thank you FYZICAL and Heather.

Fantastic experience: I was referred to Fyzical by my surgeon for PT after a recent knee surgery. Ryan Sandy was a delight to work with; he was patient, knowledgeable, and personable. He was also receptive to tailoring my rehab to the activities (martial arts) to which I am now returning, which I especially appreciated. I also appreciated the fact that he was so well versed in the different stages of healing for my particular surgery, this knowledge was reassuring. His pace was perfect for me; the exercises he gave me were challenging enough to move me forward but not so difficult as to get in the way of healing (this had happened to me before at other PT practices). I highly recommend Ryan. The office staff was efficient and professional. The only observation I would share about the staff was that after five months of visiting their office on a once or twice weekly basis, none of the office staff knew my name. This was unexpected, but not a big issue.

Fantastic experience: I had a hip replacement last August and received great post op care at Fyzical. Ryan was great. He put me on a PT program that yielded great results. After two months, my range of motion increased and the general discomfort from scar tissue lessened dramatically. I would highly recommend this firm!

Fantastic experience: I've had chronic lower back and hip pain for many years and went in to see Ryan earlier in January. Over the course of 5 months, Ryan worked very closely and patiently with me on strengthening my hip, back, and core to the point where I now feel little to no pain and have a very firm understanding of how I can care for myself moving forward. Fantastic experience: I was visiting the Bay area for a month and needed to continue PT after shoulder surgery. Fyzical was very helpful and accommodating. The therapist i worked with, Isabella, was excellent . She was thoroughly competent, spent time working with my local therapist, made sure she picked up where he left off, and worked with me to advance my recovery to the next phase. I would recommend Fyzical unconditionally.

Fantastic experience: I feel very fortunate to have discovered Fyzical Therapy at 3718 Grand Ave Oakland CA. Co- owner Kathryn Thornburg who did my initial assessment and Jane Hodges have years and years (probably 214 between the two of them!)of training and professional experience judging by the multitude of initials after their names. They have more certified credentials than a Russian Admiral has a chest full of medals! And to top that off they both have an inate sense of being able to know when to stop the particular torture(I mean therapy- sorry) just short of your pain limits. I'm kidding of course, but they know how to work your body and are extremely cognizant of exactly when to ease into and out of a stretch. In my case a frozen shoulder left over after an electrophysiologist trying to implant a CRT-d pacemaker device paralysed my brachial plexus nerve requiring neural allographs( nerve transplants). After trying to find a conpetant physical therapist for 3 months after nerve surgery at UCSF, I ruled out Berkeley Community Physical Therapy because after an assessment with their extremely conpetant physical therapist, Leslie Carter, they scheduled me with an incompetant. Unsupervised assistant physical therapist( read trainee) who started digging away where the nerve transplant was located. They would not let me cancel the appointments with the assistant PT without cancelling all my appointments with Leslie too. I thought that was outrageous and told them so. Fantastic experience: Incredibly rigorous, informed and caring approach to PT. Ryan looked at my medical info carefully, listened, and laid out a program that he adjusted intelligently as we went along. He was also almost always available by email to answer my questions if something concerning popped up. All around a great experience!

Fantastic experience: I originally came to FYZICAL because of sciatica pain -- shooting across my seat and down my leg. On the recommendation of a friend, I set up an appointment with Heather Davis. And thanks to her knowledge of body mechanics, her ability to explain clearly why she was recommending the specific set of exercises she taught me and her careful instruction about how to do them, I'm sciatica free. She's also upbeat and funny with lots of positive energy. All in all, the perfect combination for getting better!

Fantastic experience: The best physical therapy place I've been to in the East Bay and I've tried several in the 16 years since I came here. I've seen them for an ankle issue and a lower back issue. They don't oversell what they can do for you, they're extremely knowledgeable and experienced, and they help you understand the overall nature of the issue you are facing and the physiology of it. I've worked with Caroline and she's outstanding.

Fantastic experience: After trying to get rid of a stubborn pain for more than a year at other physical therapy places, by chance Ryan Sandy was assigned as my PT when I started at FYZICAL Grand Lake Oakland. Within 5 months I was swimming and standing without pain. He addressed both the flexibility and strengthening of the muscles (while some PTs I have found do one or the other), and worked with me to find exercises I would actually do.

Fantastic experience: Isabelle was very professional, warm, caring and welcoming. Isabelle does a great job in listening to your concerns and areas where the pain resides. Because she does a great job listening she was able to ask the right questions to put me on the journey of recovery. In doing so, the right exercises I needed were prescribed. If you’re looking for a physical therapist who embodies what I shared, highly recommend Isabelle.

Fantastic experience: Fyzical was excellent helping me recover from a herniated disc in my back. Ryan Sandy was able to effectively diagnose me and through a set of important therapy sessions notably reduce my back pain, improve my back and core strength and develop a regular stretching and exercise regime that has allowed for a complete recovery and a game plan to prevent future problems! I would highly recommend him!

Fantastic experience: I've been suffering with knee pain, glute and psoas tightness and a stiff back for several months. I had fallen several times in a month. Carolyn has given me exercises and advice which has really helped me improve in the last month. I'm not pain-free, but I feel much better and am sleeping through the night.

Heather Davis has been an excellent physical therapist, closely assessing my condition and progress at each visit, trying different strategies, and teaching me specific exercises and stretches I can practice at home. Fantastic experience: Ryan was fantastic for my 16 weeks of PT. It started with a plan for runner’s knee that also included help with my back issues. Super knowledgeable with really useful exercises (even gave out resistance bands as part of the treatment). The staff is great and personable and were super accommodating on several occasions with appoint time needs. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I was suffering from adhesive capsulitis, commonly known as frozen shoulder. I was attended to by Heather Davis of FYZICAL. I found Heather to be very attentive to my description of the pain situation that I was in. She was most professional in her approach to alleviating my ailment. She explained in detail, and in plain language, her healing plan and her perception of the way forward. She demonstrated the physical exercises and observed keenly if I followed instructions closely. On top of physical exercise, she helped my range of motion by hands-on manipulation, which proved to be very effective. I felt that it had greatly helped to expedite my recovery. Heather has great temperament. She is patient, careful, caring and communicates well. I have no hesitation in recommending her 5-star profession service. It would be remiss of me not to congratulate FYZICAL on the great team of administrative staff.

Fantastic experience: I had an excellent experience with Fysizcal on Grand in Oakland. They are conveniently located for me. My therapist, Ryan, was very competent and helped my knee recovery greatly. He was patient and explained things well. Everyone there is very nice. I'd been to one of the big places on Telegraph for a previous surgery, and Fyzical was a much better experience.

Fantastic experience: I worked with Ryan over the course of several months while rehabbing a complicated foot injury. I had been to two other physical therapists with limited results and thankfully made significant progress after working with Ryan. Everyone at the clinic was always extremely friendly and professional, and Ryan was always patient and a great listener. Highly recommend! My only suggestion to the clinic would be to invest in some type of appointment reminder system via email / text (maybe you have these and I just wasn't enrolled). Thanks all!

Fantastic experience: Have seen Kathy Thornburg since 2015 for various orthopedic problems (joint replacements, neck, leg, back and balance issues). She is an extraordinary physical therapist. She is very knowledgeable and creative-she has helped me to achieve function and exercise goals when I sometimes cannot do them in the normal way. I highly recommend her.

Fantastic experience: I have seen Jane Hodges for physical therapy intermittently for over a decade due to various acute injuries as well as chronic conditions. She is consistently helpful and skilled at manual therapy as well as diagnostics and instruction. Jane is also an expert at diagnosing potential issues that may require further treatment. It was due to her diligence that I learned I needed surgical intervention for an ongoing issue; without it I could have been severely disabled. In addition to all that, she is a genuinely nice person, and always made me feel at ease and well taken care of during treatment and beyond. When my husband was injured in a car accident I sent him to her immediately. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone seeking physical therapy.

Fantastic experience: I'm working with Heather on my neck and upper back pain. I must confess that I had my doubts about how well "virtual PT" would work in these pandemic days, but those doubts proved to be unfounded. Fantastic experience: Working with Heather at Fyzical /Tayor & Thornburg Physical Therapy has been a God send for me. Her lovely personality and great care approach and knowledge have been very helpful in my recovery from being debilitated by two tears in the meniscus of my right knee from a severe knee twisting accident. Fantastic experience: Heather Davis at Taylor & Thornburg (now Fyzical) helped me recover from sciatica/back pain (made worse by bad posture) a few years ago. She worked with me to build my core muscles and to improve my posture. Today, my back is pain free, and has been for two years!! More recently, Heather was a key player in my recovery from a broken femur (fall from a horse.) Heather refused to give up on me through 18 months of recovery (including two surgeries involving a 14" rod and screws!) and is always encouraging. Heather's deep knowledge of the body, her amazing hands, skills in helping to rebuild muscle, and using breathing to activate deep core muscles -- have made all the difference in my recovery. Plus, she's just the nicest person, and I look forward to seeing her at each appointment. Thanks to Heather, today I can walk, hike, ride my horse again and ski -- with no limp!
