Pelvic floor therapy - Pittsburgh and Cranberry - compassionate women's health physical therapy, specializing in pregnancy and pelvic pain.

Following the birth of my third baby, I was having many of the usual “mommy” symptoms that so many women experience – leaking, abdominal separation and weakness, and mild pelvic pain. I had heard about pelvic floor therapy, and began working with a pelvic PT in Denver, CO who had her own practice. This was the beginning of my passion for women’s health! It was as if a light bulb went off in my mind – for the four years since I had had my first baby, I had spent so many hours a day clenching my pelvic floor, taking shallow breaths, overdoing it when I did exercise, and always feeling insecure and like having kids had “wrecked” my body.

Working with my PT changed all that – I finally felt like I was able to connect my core and pelvic floor, working the smaller groups of muscles, and not just focusing on “ab exercises.” Within a few months my leaking resolved and I had real tools to cope with my pelvic pain and GI issues. I felt more confident and comfortable in my new “mommy” body, and valued it so much more than I had before.

This was the turning point – if there were other therapists who were able to help moms and women feel strong and confident in their bodies, then I had to be one of them too. I knew that my days working as a hospital OT were over – I took the plunge into women’s health, and haven’t looked back since!

But most of all I love having the privilege to walk with so many young and older women, new moms and mothers of teenagers, as they discover those “aha” moments – whether it’s preparing for a V-BAC, finally feeling like they can go on a  run without leaking, recovering from a hard c-section, or working through a difficult pelvic pain condition, like vaginismus or endometriosis.

Finding and affirming the dignity of every woman, and helping each woman to find the courage to know what wholeness can be through her femininity, has been such a gift on this journey.

My husband and I live in Pittsburgh with our five children. Our house is always loud and a little messy, and we all love to read and are fans of homemade bread, classical music and spending time with our kiddos and friends.

Anna began working as a Women’s Health Physical Therapist after seeing first-hand the lack of awareness of her friends and family regarding the ability for women’s bodies to heal and restore function. After hearing countless times over:

Feeling confident about having sex after your wedding, even if right now you’re nervous? Or finding relief even if you’ve been having pain with intimacy for years?

Finally finding some relief for your pelvic pain, and feeling confident in your body even if you have been diagnosed with a condition like endometriosis or vaginismus/vulvodynia

Anna combines manual therapy with exercise to provide a hands-on approach to treating her patients and getting them back to doing what they love most, without fear of pain, leaking or weakness! She has a passion for helping other women feel heard, empowered, and confident and she looks forward to working with you!

In Anna’s freetime, she loves to stay active herself through yoga, weight lifting, and walking her dog. She also has fun indulging in her foodie personality with her fiance and trying new restaurants with friends around the Burgh!

Professionally, Anna earned her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology at Marquette University and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. Anna has received advanced training in from the American Physical Therapy Association. She has gained certifications in pregnancy/postpartum rehabilitation, pelvic pain, and returning to athletics postpartum.

We would love to give you the opportunity to ask all of your questions IN-PERSON, and to take the time to explain the anatomy of the pelvic floor and core, and to answer questions as to how imbalances in these muscles may be affecting your postpartum recovery, bladder or bowel problems, or may be contributing to pelvic pain.

For new or expecting mothers, we would love to share how pelvic floor therapy can be a crucial part of your wellness during pregnancy, and how it can help you prepare best for your birth, and set you up for confidence in your postpartum recovery. Our session includes basic wellness recommendations, including postural considerations, ergonomics for new-moms, and bladder and bowel health recommendations specific to you.

“I have nothing but positive things to say about Kelly. I had significant pelvic pain and discomfort after the birth of my 3rd child. Kelly did a thorough evaluation and came up with a treatment plan that was tailored to me. … It was the best financial investment in my health. Kelly was patient and gentle too. I loved working with her and would 100% recommend her to others.”

Also, she is very considerate of your privacy and feelings. If you are a woman looking for answers to get your body in shape again, prepare physically for childbirth, or are having a problem with your pelvic floor, I strongly recommend you talk to Kelly. She is the person you need!!”

I'm thinking about starting pelvic floor therapy - but gosh, what are they going to do? What's one reason we most often hear for why women have not made a call to a pelvic floor therapist? Being NERVOUS.   Nervous about finding something wrong. Nervous about being...

We’ve all heard that one of the effects of giving birth is that you’ll likely pee yourself from time to time. And while it’s true that this problem is very common among women who have given birth, it is not true that you just have to deal with it! Taking the right steps can make a world of difference to staying dry.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse – what is that exactly? Many women hear about it, and it seems like something terrible or scary. Many women even fear their organs are going to fall out or they’ll never be able to have sex again. And although it can be a little surprising to notice a new sensation of bulging or heaviness, pelvic organ prolapse is actually fairly common and can be managed quite well with corrective exercises and education…

Fantastic experience: Anna Holloway is a fantastic PT. She is really thorough and explains everything in an easy to understand manner. She puts you at ease and is clearly very passionate about the role that pelvic floor health plays in impacting your quality of life. Even if you're not sure what you need or if anything is wrong, go for one visit and ask all your questions just to make sure and you may be surprised or relieved either way. I had a very difficult recovery after giving birth and Anna helped me a lot to improve physically, which then in turn improved my mental health. It was a worthwhile financial investment to focus on my health and to have the one-on-one care. Especially postpartum, you deserve to have a care team that looks after the mama, so you can be the best mom you can be! I highly recommend visiting Form and Function for any pelvic floor needs.

Fantastic experience: Anna is amazing! I saw her 8 months post C-section because I was having groin pain. She is very thorough and attentive. She really listens to what is going on with you and cares. She gave me exercises to do and also did some internal work. After about 5 appointments I have no more groin pain! I am so thankful.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Kelly for pelvic therapy. She is knowledgeable, kind, accepting, and funny. A joy to work with. Even though I failed to be the best 'student' and often did a D+ job of my homework, I did see some good results. And if nothing Kelly's personality is worth the time.

Kari Romito 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: Kelly is very knowledgeable and enjoyable to work with! She was able to partner with me to create with a realistic plan for pelvic floor therapy and within the first few months I noticed improvements. She really makes your care feel personal and was flexible around scheduling. I would highly recommend her for pelvic floor therapy!

Jeana Kruszynski 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: Kelly is amazing! I have been seeing her late in my pregnancy to build pelvic floor strength, prepare for labor and also make a plan for postpartum. Highly recommend her as she is so knowledgeable and gives an easy guide to follow at home.

Cara O'Boyle 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: I have suffered from chronic lower back pain for over 20 years that has been exacerbated recently by multiple pregnancies, wearing babies, and carrying toddlers. I sought out Kelly's expertise at my chiropractor's recommendation after persistent lower back pain was much improved but not fully responsive to months of physical therapy. Kelly is very warm, professional, and knowledgeable in her field. She is attentive to your concerns and strives to provide patient-centered care. She was eager to teach me the connection between pelvic floor muscles and lower back pain and recommended stretches and breathing techniques to strengthen my pelvic floor. We have also addressed bladder urgency issues that have been exacerbated in my current pregnancy. A few months into meeting with her, I still have occasional flare ups if I do something to irritate it, but my back no longer bothers me on a daily basis. This is saying a lot considering I am 7.5 months pregnant! I am very thankful for her expertise and will continue to keep up with her recommendations in order to avoid future setbacks.

Fantastic experience: Kelly is a knowledgeable and personable OT who is helping me with my diastasis recti after my most recent pregnancy. I wish I had her as my OT after my first born. I love that the office is kid friendly and that she’s able to help me with treatment even when I’m holding my youngest.

Theresa Dombrowski 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: I’ve been working with Kelly throughout my pregnancy and she has been amazing. She has been very attentive to my issues and customizes my appointments, providing good suggestions for symptom relief and teaching me exercises that are most relevant for my stage in pregnancy. I have really enjoyed working with her and look forward to doing so postpartum. Highly recommend!!

Fantastic experience: I have nothing but positive things to say about Kelly. I had significant pelvic pain and discomfort after the birth of my 3rd child. Kelly did a thorough evaluation and came up with a treatment plan that was tailored to me. It involved a lot of work with home exercises etc but it paid off in the end. I learned so much about my body. I learned how to do Kegels correctly and how to maintain pelvic floor health. It was the best financial investment in my health. Kelly was patient and gentle too. I loved working with her and would 100% recommend her to others.
