Families trust The Jewish Home to provide the same care and support that they would at home.

The Jewish Home For the Elderly has been a top choice for families needing to transition to long-term care for almost 50 years. Families appreciate our 5-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services, which recognizes the high quality care and services we provide. We are proud to have such exceptional professionals on our team who make a difference in the lives of those in our care.

The food at the Berkowitz Family Courtyard Café is prepared in a Kosher style, and we also offer a Kosher household for those who prefer it. We have established on-site rabbinical training programs with Yeshiva University and The Jewish Theological Seminary, and we hold Shabbat and Holiday services in our beautiful synagogue. This enables spiritual involvement for all residents.

The Director of Pastoral Services is responsible for coordinating programs with community clergy to offer everyone opportunities for spiritual expression.

Our Household Model of Care offers a home setting where each Resident lives in a house of 14 and enjoys their private room and bath. Shared spaces for dining, living room, den and outside balcony encourage gatherings, socialization and engaging days. Households are staffed with talented and dedicated caregivers, guided by a Resident-centered philosophy that maintains independence and dignity, enabling individuals to live life balanced with quality care to the fullest. Experienced physicians, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, recreational therapists, social workers and clergy provide outstanding care and support the physical, social and spiritual needs of every person we are privileged to serve.

This virtual tour of the Household Model used at Jewish Senior Services shows long-term care rooms which convey the feeling of "home" for Residents throughout the building. The Household Model is designed to provide care in a more intimate and home-like setting, which has been shown to improve the overall health and well-being of Residents.

The residents at our facility have many different social activities available to them on a daily basis, including family and volunteer visits, trips to local theaters and attractions, and more. Our facility is known for its warm and friendly environment, and we offer a variety of amenities and activities to our residents.

The staff at Jewish Senior Services is dedicated to ensuring that all Residents have the highest quality of care possible to allow them to live their best lives every day.

The Home's medical staff is nationally recognized for their excellence in teaching and quality assessment programs. We are proud to be one of the few nursing homes approved by the Connecticut State Medical Society to grant physicians continuing education credits. Education and training are regularly provided to all clinical staff ensuring that the latest in treatment approaches are integrated components of service delivery.

Fantastic experience: I spoke with the receptionist this evening I believe she said her name was Laura, she had the most helpful cheerful reassuring attitude. I truly appreciated the help she offered me especially with my mom being new to long term care. Much respect to all who had been assisting me in the journey.

Negative experience: My grandmother has been staying at this facility and I wish I had one nice thing to say about this place but I don’t. They haven’t updated me or my mother on any of her medical operations or medications, they have lost multiple of her belongings as well. Currently looking for other places other than this.

Negative experience: My late wife was treated like a dog. Food left in the roof of her mouth, I found her walking around unattended, like a zombie and several times I found her in bed, halfway off it, with her pajama top almost off and her naked body exposed. Terrible place.

Fantastic experience: After two back to back spinal surgeries I went to the Mosaic Senior Life center for rehabilitation. The care, professional services, and in particular the CRA services were beyond my expectations. The building and rooms are immaculate and management is always present. Peter Willner

Positive experience: A very caring staff and excellent for rehab and hospice. My only complaint is that not all home care workers are acceptable.

Negative experience: An 82 year old nursing home resident suffering with Alzheimer’s Dementia was kept in the same diaper for 23.5 hours beginning on Wednesday, April 17. Due to her illness, the resident cannot perform ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) and is completely reliant on care staff including nurses and CNAs (Certified Nursing Assistants). At 7:51 p.m. on Wednesday, the resident was readied for bed after her weekly shower. By 7:16 p.m. the following evening the resident was still wearing the same diaper. Upon reviewing video recordings from the in-room camera, the daughter contacted the on-duty nurse to inquire about care status. The nurse claimed that the resident had refused care. Additional review of camera footage revealed that the resident was not offered care by the on-duty CNA — even after the daughter expressed concern. It wasn’t until the daughter informed the nurse that the resident hadn’t been changed in nearly 24 hours that the nurse instructed the CNA to change the resident. - this true story happened at Mozaic Senior Life located in Bridgeport CT, formally known as The Jewish Home

Negative experience: Since they renamed it mossaic they lower entry level jobs salaries really sad that instead of increasing them they actually lowered then.

Negative experience: They are fabulous when you are private pay, but beware when your money runs out and you go on Medicare, game over!

Negative experience: The person who picks up the phone for "FELISA MESTRE" is disgustingly rude. Hung up the phone before a family member had a chance to finish a sentence. Fire her. Disgusting.

Negative experience: First place they don't answer the phone when you call them.

Gina Bonfietti 3 years ago

Negative experience: The quality of the care and staff was mostly subpar. A care plan was never done on my Mom. I witnessed an aid yelling at a patient, when I reported it nothing was done. I asked to have my Mom moved, I was told there was no rooms available, when I said I was leaving they found a room. Concerns went unanswered. They were understaffed and it showed in the care and cleanliness. When I discuss this with the administrator, I was told they were not understaffed but they were raising the monthly fee $1000 to $19,500. Don’t be fooled by the marketing and new building. Since leaving I have heard the same concerns from other caregivers. The residents are afraid to complain because they’re afraid of the backlash.

Fantastic experience: The Jewish home is a beautiful state of the art facility. Inside there are individual houses and all private rooms to give residents a more home like experience. The nurses and CNA’s are the best and show love and compassion to everyone in their care. The entertainment is top notch , broadway style and the food is delicious . I could not find a better nursing home for my mom anywhere!

Negative experience: If your looking for a job DONT WORK HERE . they don't appreciate all the work you have to do especially on tandent east . they are very unorganized. They favor one another if they don't like you they will find the littlest reason to get you written up . evrybody is quitting because management is horrible. They aren't understanding what so ever . they give residents too much power to the point you don't feel like your HELPING it feels like your their slave. I wouldn't recommend this place to any of my highest experienced friends or family. It isn't worth it. The only good thing about this place is the wage per hour but this place will break you down and have you going crazy . do yourself a favor and skip this job application you'll wonna quit before yu even start. Save yourself the tears, stress and sweat. Trust me.

Negative experience: My husband , Gerald Ohara was, admitted 10/1/14 to K3 with Alzheimers' The physical custodial care was very good as was the medical care. Gerry's AD progressed rapidly to paranoia, and I experienced the psychiatric services to be woefully inadequate. The psychiatrist is only on site one day a week. The APRN only there 2 days a week, and cannot be contacted after she leaves. When Gerry's symptoms excavated the APRN wanted to check his urine to rule out a urinary tract infection which can cause increased psych. symptoms. Her order was written on a Monday, and never executed. Gerry's paranoia got worse, by Thurs. of that week I had to get the sample. It was negative. Nursing did not follow up getting the urine. When questioned I was told, "we left the urinal in his bath room." With no APRN on site, watching my husband rapidly deteriorating I was livid. A Dr. came to see me on a Sat; she did nothing but talk me into waiting before an antipsychotic was prescribed. On that Sunday, I was called at home that Gerry Had broken the glass of the fire alarm, was bleeding and had to be transferred to Bpt. Hosp. Geriatric Psych where he died on 12/10/14. I am writing this as a service to families who have a loved one with psych. issues. I think they need to advocate for 24/7 coverage of, at least, an aprn. I called the administrator of K3, who responded with, "that's how it is in all nursing homes; to which I responded, "isn't that sad." I have a nurse friend who worked, at one time in another facility. She, in tandem with a psychiatrist, and had a 24/7 on call system. It's only common sense. I am following this up with a letter to the State of Ct., dept. of health.
