Ascension Rehab and Fitness empowers athletes and active adults to return even stronger than before through customized sports physical therapy
Every session is spent 1 on 1 for an hour with the Doc. This creates a treatment plan that is precise. Rather than having to go to physical therapy 2-3 times per week, sessions are scheduled between once per week to once per month. We'll also start treatment on the day of evaluation so you don't have to wait for relief.
Every physical therapy and sports therapy plan of care starts with a thorough assessment as part of a our 3 step process. With that assessment, we'll develop a plan that fits your lifestyle and goals. Every session is customized to you and where you are in your journey. As you progress, so does the treatment.
Our patients are like family to us. For that reason, every decision that we make is based on what's best for you and you will play an integral role in the decision making process. We're here to guide you through this process each and every step of the way.
It all starts with a phone call with the Doc. On this call you'll discuss the issues that you have been experiencing. We'll then be able to figure out if we're a good fit and able to help you reach your goals. This is done because we value your time and we want to make sure you get the answers you need as soon as possible. Ever go to a medical appointment just to not get a single answer? We've been there too and we hate it so you won't experience that here.
You'll receive a thorough assessment designed to find the source of your pain. Once we know what the source is, we can target it. Next, we use the results of the evaluation to customize a plan for you. Our goal is not to only get rid of the pain, but to return to sport and life even stronger than before.
The final step is to execute the plan. We will be there with you throughout the entire process. The Doc is just a call, text, or email away should you ever have any questions or concerns.
This isn't just referring to the time you have lost due to pain, but also the time spent in and out of medical appointments (don't forget the time spent in traffic going to and from those appointments). It's also referring to the loss of thousands of dollars to not even get a real solution to your problems. What if you could avoid another 6 months of pain? How about countless doctor's appointments, injections, x-rays, and MRIs? We see patients everyday who have experienced pain for months and sometimes years. Patients who have been told they have failed other treatments. The reality is, they didn't fail the treatments. It's that the treatment never fit that patient. It's that the system failed the patient. Trying to get back to pitching at a high level again? We can help. Want to be able to play 18 holes without pain? We're here for you. Been told you shouldn't lift heavy or run ever again? We'll prove that wrong. Tired of not being able to play with your kids or grandkids? We get it. We're a family owned business. The best part about all of this? Over 90% of patients get better in 10 sessions or less. The key is we're going to give you the tools you need to reach your goals not rack up 30+ visits just chasing symptoms.
Ascension Rehab and Fitness: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I have worked and consulted with Ryan for years now. I consider him a trusted mentor and I wouldn’t have any second thoughts being treated by or referring a patient to him. He is a master at his craft and constantly pursuing more information to continue to help as many people as he can! Great PT, even better guy. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: We love Dr. Ryan at Orangetheory in Fort Mill! He has come in for multiple workshops for our members and worked with many of them during their fitness journey to get them performing at their best overcoming injuries and chronic pain. Highly recommend him to all my members and can't wait to have him back in the studio!
Fantastic experience: After my sports injury I thought all hope was lost. Dr. Ryan was able to get me back on track. He never pushed me to do any exercise I didn’t feel comfortable with. He was also patient with me as I got stronger every visit. I’m now back better than I was before the injury and he’s completely the one to thank for it. Hopefully I’ll never go through such a horrific accident; but, if I do there’s no doubt who I’ll be going back to see.
Fantastic experience: I compete in powerlifting and had some pretty severe neck pain that made me fearful to get back to training. I had seen a PT in the past, but they didn't do much of anything, and I felt pretty dismissed. Then, enter Ryan and Ascension Rehab! He had me under the barbell during our first session. He spent so much intentional time with me, sent the most thorough email after each evaluation, and checked in multiple times between our sessions together. I cannot recommend Ryan more if you are an athlete or lifter and experiencing any aches or pains. If you've tried PT before and didn't see any results, give it one more try - it's worth it!
Fantastic experience: When it comes to finding a skilled physical therapist who prioritizes comprehensive care and tailored attention, look no further than Ryan Abarno. Specializing in addressing body pain with a meticulous approach, Ryan's commitment to thoroughness sets him apart in the field. Whether you're like me and are seeking relief from aches and pains or aiming to achieve specific running goals, Ryan Abarno's expertise ensures a personalized and effective experience. His dedicated follow-up and holistic approach make him a standout choice for anyone prioritizing their long-term health and fitness journey. Trust in Ryan Abarno for a physical therapy experience that goes beyond immediate relief. Photo: Ryan helped me train for the NYC marathon. I beat my previous marathon time and attribute that to the time I spent under his direction. Looking forward to running many more thanks to him.
Fantastic experience: Ryan is great, and I would highly recommend working with him. Unlike experiences I’ve had with other PTs in the past, Ryan looks to address root causes rather than putting a band aid on the symptoms. We had success working through longer standing elbow tendinosis and a more recent ankle sprain. Much appreciated, and I’ll certainly work with Ryan again.
Fantastic experience: Went to Ryan to deal with some ankle and low back pain. I’m a big runner and also do a lot of spartan races so, I knew I needed to see someone to get me back on my A game. Ryan did not disappoint. He took me through a series of movements to help identify the issues and pegged them down right away. I’m a few months out seeing him and feeling great after only a few sessions and have been able to get back to my running with no pain! I will for sure be going back to Ryan if anything else comes up!
Fantastic experience: Very supportive, and extremely knowledgeable. Would recommend to anyone trying to take that next step in improving their performance and understanding their body mechanics.
Fantastic experience: Ryan has done a phenomenal job working with our daughter! He spoke to her and made sure she understood everything he said. She is now pain free and back to playing soccer again!
Fantastic experience: Ryan is great. He takes time to properly evaluate your issues and takes the appropriate steps to ensure the best course of action. I had back issues playing golf, and after a month working with Ryan the back pain is completely gone!
Fantastic experience: This was by far the best PT experience I have ever had. I have managed knee issues since 2019, while playing masters level men’s lacrosse. I had been to other physical therapists with very little results, but Ryan really listened to what I had to say, and quickly devised an amazing plan to strengthen my knee and work other areas to improve the situation. His knowledge and application was another level of amazing. In less than 2 months, I am playing lacrosse tournaments with little to no knee pain. Thank you, Ryan!!!
Fantastic experience: I am thankful for Ryan helping me remove knee pain associated from car accident and weightlifting. He has a very high understanding of the human body and the appropriate corrective exercises.
Fantastic experience: Ryan is great and definitely knows what he is doing to help with both injury prevention and strengthening at the same time.
Fantastic experience: Ryan is simply amazing at what he does. He understands the body at an elite level but more importantly understands how athletes think! He has gotten me out of pain and healthy multiple times. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to get out of pain and back enjoy everyday life or sports at an elite level
Fantastic experience: I have had bilateral hamstring tendinopathy for over 10 years and have seen multiple physical therapists over the years. Dr. Ryan has been the ONLY PT that has helped heal me and find the true source of my injury. He will work with you one-on-one for an hour without overlapping other patients. His rehab plans are anything but cookie-cutter. He customizes each session depending on your progress (or setbacks) and truly cares about you as a person. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing physical therapy and am so thankful that we found each other!
Fantastic experience: I visisted Ryan a couple days ago regarding overall soreness and general mobility. He answered all my questions and was able to get me feeling better than before I came in. Would 100% recommend for any sports related problems you have!
Fantastic experience: Ryan puts in a lot of time making sure you get taken care of. He does a great job working with you and making sure you’re getting healthy and stronger at the same time.
Fantastic experience: Went through an injury evaluation followed by PT, Ryan was super helpful, effective, and professional. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Ryan was as professional and as knowledgeable as it gets. He understood where I was at as an athlete and where I wanted to get to, coming off knee surgery. Within the first session I knew I wanted to go back as I left with some of the best muscle exhaustion and increase in hip mobility that I have felt in over 10 months. His follow up email was extremely helpful with the list of exercises and explanations for each one, as well as what I’m feeling currently, why I’m feeling it, and how these exercises should help. Would highly recommend Ryan to anyone, especially athletes that are looking to recover from injury or prevent future injuries.
Fantastic experience: I have had recurring rotator cuff and shoulder pain that Ryan has been successful at helping me resolve. His methods for resolving pain is to treat the source, come up with a plan for rehab, and then prehab. He will hold you accountable for your homework and will make adjustments as needed to ensure you are on the way to recovery. I have and will continue to recommend Ryan to anyone needing a PT.
Fantastic experience: After spending weeks with a different PT in effort to alleviate my elbow tendonitis (keeping from golf), the only change was that elbow hurt more. Thankfully someone recommended Ryan. I had a phone conversation with him prior to the office visit. He took a full history. It was so refreshing for someone in the medical industry to take the time to listen to me…and hear what I was saying. Before I even stepped into his office, I think he had a good idea of what was going on with me. Turns out it was a neck problem which was putting a strain on my elbow…which is why the PT work I had been doing only exacerbated the situation. Every session I have with Ryan he continues to listen to me and show the same amount of care and professionalism. I am back to playing 9 holes of golf and just got the green light to play 18 holes! My neck and elbow are much better….so naturally I “blew out” my knee playing pickleball. Again, Ryan listened and diagnosed the problem with ease. My knee felt better by the time I left his office. Do not waste your time or your money elsewhere…GO SEE RYAN! Ryan, cannot thank you enough!
Fantastic experience: Even though my surgeon told me my shoulder had fully recovered after surgery, I found I was having pain and discomfort when attempting to resume my normal activities. Ryan worked with me to complete my shoulder rehab, and NOW I’m ready to get back at it. He’s also helped me resolve some long term knee pain. Ryan has a lot of knowledge and expertise, and I’ve enjoyed working with him.
Fantastic experience: I came to Ryan with a aggravated ac shoulder joint, two previously dislocated ribs and aggravated intercostal muscles, within the first 2 weeks my bench was near sub maximal load and within 1 month I was at 95% max with no stimulus. My squat also progressed with the exercises given and managed a pr 3 months after my first initial visit with little to no stimulus. Highly recommend as he is a great person and a great pt.
Fantastic experience: I injured my shoulder and Ryan was able to help me recover. What I like about the process is that you start with the fundamentals and end up strengthening to the point where the injury will be less likely to occur. Ryan works close with you and adjusts accordingly. He is also always available and I would recommend coming to see him for any injuries!
Fantastic experience: Tremendous THANKS, to Dr. Ryan Abarno, my son recovered from a pitcher's elbow injury, aka lil' league elbow, from throwing a football, that happened in August of this year. He may have missed the whole season of football if we had stayed inside our health-care providers. First, we scheduled an appointment with our doctor, only to get a NP, who said she could take an x-ray, but because his elbow was swollen & if broken, she would have sent us to an OrthoCarolina - Urgent Care, who is outside our network. She said it was my decision to x-ray here or there. I wish I had gone with my 1st instinct & request she took the x-ray here, since our insurance would have covered the x-ray & then if broken had the x-ray sent to OrthoCarolina. Instead, she mentioned it'll be like a 1 stop shop, everything done in 1 place. Unfortunately for us, that didn't happened. Before even getting service, we had to pay since they're outside our network. An x-ray was taken, only to have a PA tell us that it's not broken, but he's got a pitcher's elbow. Then we were told the only restriction was no throwing for at least 4 weeks, but in the meantime a PT may contact us for exercises, but then was told to just see our doctor in 2 weeks for follow-up. So, no PT there would contact us. We saw our doctor in 2 weeks, only for him to tell us to get my son to a PT that week, that he recommended, IvyRehab. The earliest we can go was the following week. We get there only to get a PT with 2 yrs. experience (now I have no problem that the PT has 2 yrs., I get everyone needs to start sometime, but if you're feeling my frustration), this PT tell us that sometime an x-ray doesn't show everything & recommended that my son gets an MRI at the SpecOrtho next door. So we paid another deductible there, only to get no service on his elbow. Then we couldn't get in that day at the SpecOrtho, but they were able to squeeze him in at 7:00am the next morning. After leaving again with no help with my son's elbow injury, that same day on 9/7/22, I decided to contact Dr. Ryan Abarno by text, because thank goodness, he had already work with my gymnast in the past with her elbow injury & had gotten her recovered just in time for a State meet! Shortly afterwards, Dr. Ryan replied & called me to discuss my situation. I was ecstatic that he mentioned he had worked with many pitcher's elbow & he himself played baseball. Not only did this gave me hope, but he was able to see my son soon, like the next day. After seeing him, I felt so confident that my son's in great hands & we didn't have to visit another place. After the 1st visit with Dr. Ryan, my son's pain went from a 4 to no pain, & he was given a few helpful exercises to do in between visits. I have to add, at first we didn't think my son would be able to even play football this season, because the 1st month was wasted without having the care he needed to get him back in the game. After only 3 wks, 9/28/22, my son was able to gradually participate in football & throw again. Then by the 5th wks., 10/10/22, he was completely cleared to pass the football! I have to say if it wasn't for Dr. Ryan it would have been no football game this year. Also, for what it had cost us already for trying to stay within our network, our deductibles would have already covered for most of Ascension Rehab & Fitness expenses. I love how he continues to check-up on his clients by texts/calls throughout the whole process & if we have any questions, we can texts/calls anytime too. He'll respond at his earliest convenience, which can be minutes or hours. This is nothing like your traditional doctor's office, I don't recall a text or call after a visit, unless it's to give a test results. I 100% recommend AR&F! In the future for anymore injuries, I'll just contact Ascension Rehab & Fitness, first!
Fantastic experience: Ryan has been very helpful with my rehab and training. I was using a different program when I developed some lower back issues. That program didn’t have an injury protocol that was relevant to my needs. I was constantly restarting the program, modifying lifts, and outright missing sessions. Since working with Ryan, while I’m not 100% yet, I’m way closer to being so than I was prior.
Fantastic experience: I saw Ryan about a hip issue I had been having for 4 years and have to say I was very impressed with the success I have had. I had difficulty with engaging in my sport and keeping fit. Ryan took the time to listen to my story and evaluated my hip to come up with a diagnosis and treatment plan. He was able to explain where my pain was coming from and how I could get rid of it. After we finished treatment, Ryan built me an exercise program to ensure I recovered completely. He was fantastic from start to finish and I couldn't recommend him highly enough
Fantastic experience: I can't speak of Ryan highly enough. I had a pretty bad injury in 2020 to my hip/glute. I had little luck with other PT's. With the help of Ryan I am back to powerlifting again. Ryan worked with my coach to devise a plan to make me pain free and by god did it work. Ryan's gym is clean, he's an intelligent man whose capable of making sure you understand the information and reasons behind his methods. I would go to him 10/10 times again. Im not all the way through seeing him, still have somethings to work though, but as it stands right now this guy is top tier.
Fantastic experience: For roughly 3-4 months (I think), I could not squat or deadlift because of a pain I thought was in my glute/leg. When I came in for my first meeting with Ryan, he did a few test and quickly found out it was an injured disk in my lumbar spine. Within less than 2 months Ive been able to squat over 300 again and deadlift over 300 again for reps, pain free. He has also done some needling work that has helped me alot with part of my rehab. I will definitely be coming back to get work done!
Fantastic experience: I originally came to Ryan for a squat lean issue. I had developed a lean from low-bar squatting that translated to back pain and knee pain. We've made huge strides in tackling my imbalances and pain which has led me to squat & deadlift new PRs. I can also walk pain free now (no knee irritation). Ryan designs my training cycles to consider my powerlifting goals as well as exercises that work towards strengthening other areas. Ryan is easy to work with and communicate with. He is very talented in diagnosis while understanding the big picture. The warm-ups, stretches, and drills that he assigns are all practical and the feedback is immediate.
Fantastic experience: I am finally back to working out pain-free after months of battling low back and hamstring issues. Ryan possesses a strong ability to listen, interpret, and provide guidance on how to navigate my ailments. I specifically appreciated how he made sure to provide actionable steps for me to follow and improve. Highly recommend!
Fantastic experience: I recently tore my ACL and went to Ryan for my rehabilitation. His knowledge about the injury and plan he set for me is the reason I am back doing the things I love. I am able to run, play tennis, and golf without pain. He provided a level of care I have not experienced at your typical physical therapy clinic. Once I was back to activities, he provided me with a program to reduce the risk of it ever happening again.
Fantastic experience: Ryan is extremely knowledgeable and professional, and I am beyond happy I have worked with him. As someone who works a very active job and lifts weights, I was happy to get feedback on the pain I was experiencing from someone who understands my lifestyle and sport. I 100% recommend seeking his physical therapy service if you ever are experiencing any pain or injuries, or just want to move better!
Fantastic experience: I have worked with Ryan for over a year now. In my teens I had hip surgery and ACL reconstructive surgery. Over the last 10 years, I have constantly battled swelling, aching, and overall discomfort. Since having Ryan do my programming, I have seen tremendous progress in my overall struggles with previous injuries. He really takes the time to know the injury and can provide realistic rehabilitation that works! I have recommended him to several family members and friends. His knowledge makes him the perfect person to provide the support for injuries while also training in strength performance sports.
Fantastic experience: I’m a short amount of time between when I contact Ryan & the respond back was quicker than ever. He was able to get me booked & evaluated under record time to get my back on my feet and not miss a day of training in regards to my problems. Keeps in touch with me day for day even without me being there under his supervision to make sure I am feeling healthier and healthier. Highly recommend anyone to go see him if they are in the need!
Fantastic experience: Ryan is incredible! I have been going to see him since October and he is the first person is years that has been able to help me run pain free. If you are dealing with an injury or pain Ascension Rehab and Fitness is the place for you.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been working with Ryan A. for over a year with assistance and coaching within the sport of Powerlifting. I would highly recommend his services as he has helped me to rehabilitate reoccurring injuries that have hindered progress. We have successfully teamed together to have my last two competitions result in peak performances that were most importantly injury free. Ryan is extremely clear, patient, responsive and provides education behind his methodology of programming and rehab / pain management.
Fantastic experience: Ryan is a super informed but casual guy, very comfortable with being honest with him and receiving the same in return. He’s helped me rehab a mild hip injury and return to heavy squats in 2 months or less with essentially no pain. We’ve also worked on increasing my limited ankle mobility that has hindered the hip as well. Ryan has also worked closely with my powerlifting coach to establish an augmented program for me to incorporate some rehab work into my everyday lifting routine. Progress has been pretty consistent and significant assuming you follow his instruction!
Fantastic experience: I’ve been visiting Ryan since October, and it’s been such a positive experience. I dislocated my elbow in February. Have seen multiple doctors and OT’s, and none of them have cared about my recovery as much as Ryan has. I’ve seen the most improvement in my elbow extension with Ryan as well. Stop wasting your time seeing those other physical therapists who see you as just $$$, and go see Ryan. Someone who will actually treat your recovery seriously and with care. First picture was 2 weeks after my dislocation. Second picture was at my most recent session with Ryan. The straightest my arm has EVER been since before my injury!! Huge improvements.
