Positive experience: My husband has been on the dementia unit for almost 2 years. ACNH has its problems, as most places do, but my husband is kept clean and well taken care of. Most of the staff do their best and are usually caring people. My husband's main caregiver is wonderful with him and he responds to this. The activities department always has interesting and fun musical events/parties, which residents and visitors enjoy. I believe that with encouragement and support the aesthetics and morale at ACNH will improve for residents, their families, and the employees.

Positive experience: Pros - Good food Clean Friendly staff Cons - Pretty sure you wouldn't need to worry about abuse at this facility, however neglect does occur. If you place your loved one in this facility, it would be wise to check on their care (e.g. hydration, food consumption, toe and fingernail trimming, bloodwork, etc.) at least every other day. Lastly, of concern, at one time I listened to one of the social workers tell a resident that Shaker Place is a "no lift" facility, so they couldn't get him up to use the toilet. Instead, he would have to soil himself, then wait to be changed. Hoyer lifts are used to put residents in and out of bed but apparently that is all, according to one of their social workers.

Fantastic experience: Candidly, when my father in-law was sent to Shaker Place I was a bit concerned. He was only scheduled for a short rehabilitation stay. A few days in, he told me he was staying! The care provided, the focus on connecting and understanding each resident immediately made him feel comfortable. In spite of the typical challenges faced by nursing homes and the pandemic, he did not want to be anywhere else. The communication by the nursing director, Rebecca, and her team was stellar. Words don’t do Justice to the team at Shaker. Thank you so very much Bernie

Fantastic experience: My blind grandmother was just recently placed into Shaker Place Rehabilitation and she absolutely LOVES it. The facility/her room is beautiful, CLEAN, remodeled, and the staff (very thorough, polite…) and other residents are wonderful. I have never heard my Grandma as happy as she is now. The care that she is receiving from this facility is immaculate and it warms my heart knowing she is taken care of, respected, and loved by the staff and residents. If you’re considering placing your loved one in a nursing facility, place them here. The absolute BEST! Thank you, thank you, thank you Shaker Place!

Positive experience: Certainly a upgrade from many years ago, a job well done, the residents are absolutely amazing wonderful and delightful. Some of the staff are truly welcoming and kind the nursing director Rebecca not pleasant at all in fact rude ignorant and doesn’t know how to communicate, by holding a title she feels very superior to all, she needs a lesson in communication and must know she can’t speak to people how she sees fit, she’s gonna approach someone who well won’t be so kind….. respect is both given and earned disgusting and bitter taste for her!!!!!! As far as a place to work very short staffed as many places pay rate not what was stated overall it’s your choice and preference, but if you can handle a person demising and belittling you then by all means but Rebecca has no RESPECT for anyone BI$$h you’re definitely always greeted with a smile from the security guys and beautiful soul at the front desk!!!!!! Get rid of Rebecca

Fantastic experience: I recently stayed at Shaker Place for ten days while my wife visited her family in Florida. I have ALS and the staff was very attentive to my needs. I have a lot of challenges speaking and I am wheelchair bound. Everyone went out of their way to ensure I had safe and happy stay. I recommend this facility and will go there again if needed.

Fantastic experience: We got to the point back in May 2021 of having to arrange nursing home care for our 84 year old mother. I cannot thank the entire staff at Shaker Place for the kindness, care and empathy they shared with my brothers and I during her stay. Mom passed away on Monday October 25th of 2021. Knowing that our Mom was receiving outstanding care even amidst the COVID situation was comforting. The communication from the administrative people, especially Amanda was so appreciated. She was patient with us and explained options and procedures in terms that were easy to understand. Every time one of us visited our mother, the nursing staff at the Wright wing were available and were patient with us as we asked numerous questions. A special thank you to Shannon who provided constant communication throughout Mom's stay and to the rest of the staff at Wright who helped make our Mom as comfortable as she could be. Thanks also to her doctor who arranged the care conference with all of the care givers when we were arranging for Hospice care. The people in that room from Shaker Place could not have been more caring and were extremely patient with my brothers and I answering our numerous questions and concerns. And finally, a special thank you to Mr. Slatky, director of Shaker Place. Your facility is beyond clean, is bright and was the best place for our Mom to be other than at her own home. I will never forget your initially reaching out to me back in May letting me know you had a place for our Mom. Thanks also for your kind expression of sympathy when our Mom passed. As I look back over the last 6 months of Mom's life I become more and more grateful for the good people at Shaker Place. Ed Barber

Fantastic experience: What an amazing transformation my workplace has gone through over the last two years. Spacious & airy, modern, light & bright resident rooms and common rooms. So much room for residents to spread out ! Privacy and modern amenities were clearly a top priority in the new design. Strong administrative team, including nursing credentials that you don't always see in long term care. In addition to PT/OT, we also have a full time speech therapist and respiratory therapist. We also have a full time dedicated wound care nurse, infection control nurse, staff education team and medical director, We've had three exemplary infection control surveys during Covid and have not had a single deficiency. That speaks for itself. I am proud to be part of the Shaker Place team and consider it my second home.

Fantastic experience: Dear Mr. Slatky, Doctors, Nurses, CNA's and entire staff at Shaker Place: I cannot tell you how excited I was to finally get the opportunity to visit my mother on 09/22/2020, since COVID interrupted all of our lives, back in March 2020. I appreciated all the professionalism, strict guidelines and precautions you are taking to make sure the residents, staff and visitors stay safe. I was also excited to see the staff, that I missed so much, too! I really could have cried. They have truly become like a second family. My mother has been a resident for almost 3 years, because of her Alzheimer's diagnosis. As awful the disease is, our family is thankful that mom is blessed to be given well needed healthcare, along with kindness and compassion. I am not just talking about the nurses and CNA'S. The social workers, therapists, the admin staff, social activities staff, the maintenance and security staff, the seamstress and food servers have ALL shown their kindness towards my mom and our entire family. Also, any time there is the slightest issue with mom, even a hangnail, I am notified. How great is that? After numerous hospital stays, my dad had been sent to the nursing home a few times for rehab. He was fortunate enough, because the staff went out of their way, to be close to mom so that they could spend some of their meals together, and even one time being roommates! Although mom may not have known him, it gave dad a first hand look at the great care she is given. Unfortunately, he passed away in December, but we know he was also given the best care. So, very long story short, I want to thank everyone for being on the frontlines of this pandemic. You are all giving of yourselves, to help our loved ones stay healthy and safe. Keep up the great work! Donna Quackenbush

Fantastic experience: My father was moved there from another nursing home. The other nursing home was terrible. I was so impressed with Albany County nursing home. The staff were so nice and attentive. The place was clean. The bedding was changed everyday. My father was in there for comfort care. He didn't have long to live and the staff were very respectful and caring.

Fantastic experience: My sister is here. 56 years old. We could not ask for a better place. The staff are so caring...not only to my sister but family. There for a shoulder and kind words. Some places are so fancy inside but no heart! Very pleased!

Fantastic experience: Not the best facility, but they take great care of their patients.

Fantastic experience: Making the decision to place my mother in a nursing home was one of the hardest experiences of my life. So I want to give a big THANK YOU to all of the staff members at Albany County Nursing Home. Everyone from the nurses to the social workers to the assistants and beyond have made my mother's comfort a priority. Her care team is constantly in contact with my family, frequently updating us on how she is doing. My mother's well-being is my biggest priority, and I am deeply appreciative of all of the Albany County Nursing Home's efforts.

Fantastic experience: My sister is young and was diagnosed with dementia early. On one of my first visits the staff was very attentive to both family and patients. They made us feel comfortable and gave us a room so that we can spend quality time with her. The facility is old but the care makes it beautiful which is what is important. Thanks to all the staff on the 5th floor. Your the best.

Fantastic experience: My aunt is there, at 56 years old. The facility may look older but the care there is wonderful. They are amazing staff and caring people. They really do care about everyone staying there and the families visiting.
