Services and Treatments
Spaulding Hospital Cambridge: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Exceptional and professional care. Attentive and responsive doctor, nurses, and aides, all throughly explained procedures, medications, progress, and plans. Excellent therapists for PT. OT, and Speech. Very careful documentation and records. Everyone was helpful, kind, and patient. We were fortunate to be able to go to Spaulding for rehab.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely excellent. You did an amazing job taking care of my mom after her stroke current I appreciate Aldo's nurses and doctors that helped her get through the recovery process
Fantastic experience: Excellent care by entire staff. Family member made full recovery
Fantastic experience: Great place was there recently in April shout to maddie kayla got me back on my feet
Fantastic experience: I was treated at Spaulding Cambridge from August 4 to 14, 2025 for a stroke. My OT, Kayla was amazingly professional and wonderful to me and always encouraged and challenged me to strive for the best that I could do. We had a lot of fun at times which helps to make the tough therapy I needed a little easier to do the hard work. My PT’s Maddy and Miranda were tough on me and challenged me to my limits for my own good but it was a pleasure to be with them each day. I have only good things to say about the entire care team I had during my stay. I would definitely recommend Spaulding to anyone who needs them.
Negative experience: Incredibly rude staff in the office of Dr. Webb. I have no issues with Dr. Webb herself, but staff are extremely disrespectful and this has been a pattern over several years. They talk down and yell in person and over the phone at patients. Disgraceful and unprofessional.
Fantastic experience: I can't praise the team of medical staff at this location, especially Dr. Ray and the amazing team of Occupational and Physical Therapists. These therapists gave me the confidence that I can relearn my ambulatory skills after months bedridden in the ICU. I am grateful for every therapist who treated me with dignity and compassion. There, but for the Grace of God go I.
Negative experience: My brother died 3 years ago under their care. I have asked the pulmonologist on duty two days prior to his death why his arms and legs are so swollen. Her response was oh it must be from blood transfusion he had and recommended an ultrasound on his left arm and leg. He was pronounced brain dead two days later due to multiple pnuemonias. He was high risk for aspirating pnuemonia, which they all should know. She apparently was clueless. I was informed that my brother vomitted days ago and this was the main reason. Why is she a pulmonologist? It was her specialty to recognize risks for abpatient who already has severe respiratory problems. No apology from her whatsoever. The system sucks. I wished for years that she would never practice again. The anger is still present. It took me 3 years to finally write this review. Too many hands handling a critical patient and none of them can handle his type, but yet they took him in. My brother was sent back to ER at Brigham's a few times while he was in Spaulding because they are not adequate to accomodate his health problems. Going to rehab was suppose to make him get better, but instead they killed him. This facility have the worst in infection control. I had to speak to a nurse about her not changing her gloves and witnessed a respiratory therapist picking up pieces of the respiratory tube off the floor without doning her gloves or washing the item she dropped. A few didn' t even tie their gowns...drooped to the floor while they were bendng down. The PT room is full of cross contamination. I read prior reviews after the fact... that your loved one will die under their care. Horrifying that thisbplace is still in business.
Negative experience: Overall experience here was poor
Fantastic experience: My father received incredible care at Spaulding. After he experienced a traumatic brain injury, the professional team at Spaudling, including doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, etc. cared for him, communicated with my family and offered suggestions for improvements. If you or a family member is going to Spaulding, you will be cared for with dignity and respect in a professional manner.
Fantastic experience: I had the greatest experience with Spaulding thank you all for making me hole again
Fantastic experience: The care my father has received at Spaulding has been top notch! We are a little sad that we need to find another spot for him with all the progress he has made.Everyone from the OT (shout out to Nicole ) to the receptionist to the parking guy have been lovely! Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Negative experience: Spaulding has the worst management team in the earth. They don't care for human life. They only care how to make more money for the hospital. Bad place to bring your love one
Negative experience: Staff in particular front desk staff, purposely puts patients in distress rather than opt for the simplest and obvious solution to comfort care they rather make people wait and make their lives unnecessarily uncomfortable. How pathetic full grown adults live their desolate lives for these brief moments of a power trip.
Fantastic experience: Best rehabilitation ever ❤️ Nurse's very kindly excellent service quality care excellent doctors clean rooms my well taking care of very happy
Negative experience: Awful place to work. They have new nurses training oncoming nurses, people smile in each other's faces at the same time are reporting each other, and there is a lot of he said she said. It's a lion's den, they will even tell you not to trust anybody you are working with. Nurses bad mouth patients and say the worst things about patients' condition and their families at the nurses' station. The unfortunate situation the patients/families go through is one big joke for them and they have no problem laughing about it. Managers play favorites. Don't work on 3west at all costs! Ella is a spiteful manager and will lie about you if she has to. Everybody working on 3west complains about her. Don't risk your license!
Negative experience: I am still waiting for someone to call me back since November 2023. I called several times and left voicemails. My son was being seen by a therapist at the outpatient clinic and it seems that he no longer was available 2 times a week because he was covering for someone that was out on maternity leave but I believe his patients should be prioritized. Back in November 2023 I was calling to let them know I wasn’t going to make it because my son had a stomach virus i called several times but they didn’t answer so I left a voicemail I also call again the next day and the next day still waiting! What a shame… Sometimes I was late because of the traffic but that’s not a reason for not to contact me and just leave my son on the air he didn’t get a proper discharge a proper goodbye i believe we all need a proper discharge. He still asking me what he did wrong and it breaks my heart the fact he feels responsible for any wrong doing. The reason why I’m writing this review today February 28, 2024 is because he asked me again what happened why he still not going back over there and obviously I’m not taking back there!
Positive experience: Edit: 11/9/23 The staff has made giant efforts to rectify our issue and make sure it doesn't happen again. They have been attempting to allay our concerns, so moving forward with reserved optimisim. My mom has been there FOR LESS THAN A WEEK, having had recent BRAIN SURGERY for a ruptured aneurysm, resultant stroke, secondary brain bleed, and a shunt for hydrocephalus, and has already been found 3 times in an absolutely UNACCEPTABLE state. One time half out of her chair, without any attention. Gave them the benefit of the doubt. Second time the room STINKING sitting in her own liquid diet filth, and no one would respond to requests to clean her for almost an hour and who knows how long before that Third time bent over UPSIDE DOWN in her chair having fallen over, both arms over her head, thought she was DEAD when we got there. She just had freaking brain surgery post aneurysm, stroke, and brain bleed with a shunt and a tracheostomy because she had covid complications and mucus issues, she can't freaking breathe well and was upside down. Not to mention how that must affect the pressure in her head -- she has a shunt for that reason! And no one on staff noticed, my dad had to get her upright on his own! She has been in tears 3 days in a row from the absolute undignified care she has received, and she cannot speak or communicate in order to advocate for herself or fill us in. My father, who has had his life turned upside down and on hold for the last two months is having to come in and see this. Absolutely ridiculous standard of care. Frankly, we don't even trust that something won't happen, let alone the rest of the therapy. The visit hours are only 2pm to 8pm, and someone will have to be there for the whole time at this rate, and who the hell knows what will happen to her the rest of the time there. She has become listless, crying, and clearly unhappy and has actually seemed to regress because of this, and we have to attribute it to a strong, independent woman having to rely on help and being left like this.
Negative experience: They denied me
Fantastic experience: Gracias a todos por su desempeño.
Negative experience: Cambridge Spaulding has the rudest day operator and desk girls in outpatient PT. The way they talk to clients is atrocious and disgusting. Ppl already ate in pain and feeling down and they DON'T help the cases! I've stopped going!! I'd rather do what I've learned at home.
Positive experience: My Son had a training program there so I don't know much about the hospital
Fantastic experience: My sister Nikki received the best of care under Dr. Sorina Chiron at Spalding Cambridge. She was very knowledgeable of my sisters disease, very informative, and most of all very caring. Truly an asset to Mass General and Spalding.
Positive experience: My sister is a patient and has received good care as far as helping her breathe on her own and eating on her own . The nurses are great but the physical therapy portion was subpar. I was hoping she would have at least attempted to start walking but she has been mostly on her back or in the chair. I am hoping that the next facility (hopefully Lighthouse Nursing in Revere) can get her on her feet. My feelings on Spaulding are mixed
Negative experience: My sister was transferred to Spaulding Cambridge after cancer surgery. She required 24 hour care. I received conflicting evaluations of her condition. My sister was unable to talk due to the presence of a trachea tube. She was anxious and easily agitated. The staff over medicated my sister with antipsychotic meds which are known to increase mortality in the elderly. While I am certain it was a challenge to calm her, I find this type of care totally unacceptable. The day before she died I was told by a doctor at Spaulding that they may have given her more Seraquel than necessary but they were in a hurry as transport was there to take her to an appointment at her surgeon's office and she did not want to go. She had known and trusted her surgeon since 2006 so I questioned the accuracy of that statement. The following day, quite unexpectedly my sister died. Knowing of the excellent reputation Spaulding Rehab, I was expecting great things. I was sadly very disappointed and regret not followed my impulse to have her returned to Mass Eye and Ear. After her surgery there her condition had improved. Her condition deteriorated during the two weeks she spent at Spaulding Cambridge, ending in her death. I so regret not staying on top of the care she was given at every minute. Had I lived in Massachusetts where I could spend hours of every day with her maybe there would have been a different outcome.
Negative experience: My mother was sent here with promises and expectations of it being a wonderful place but instead it was all a facade. If you smoke don't come here there's a zero exception policy of smoking on "campus" and they won't allow you outside more than once a day even with family to take you out. The nurses have no power and you have to get permission from the doctor for everything. The cafeteria closes at 4 so you have to order your food in the morning and by the time you go to eat it'll be a reheated meal in the microwave. I hope you all the best if you're sent here.
Fantastic experience: My sister was moved to Spaulding from Mass General. She was treated with care and concern. The nursing staff is terrific! The social worker was well equipped to deal with all of the unnerving feelings my sister and I had. The Dietitian, Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapist were all patient and committed. My sister's improvement was remarkable. From the receptionist to the President's administrative assistant, everyone treated me with respect and concern. Thanks to the cafeteria staff who filled my hot tea from the hot water tap and asked daily about how my sister and I were doing. I was with my sister two weeks.I know you will have the same experience. Janice Jenkins Acevedo Austin, TX.
Fantastic experience: Husband was sent there from BWH. He was there 4 weeks on 2West. Everyone was so attentive, the nurses, the staff people, the cleaners. No complaints and I would highly recommend this hospital. Dr. Roy was absolutely wonderful. All the nurses were top notch. Thank you, Spaulding!
Fantastic experience: This Spaulding IS THE BEST!!!! My husband was with them on 4 west for 5 months and they were so good to him and our family. They were the reason why I could sleep at night because I knew that he was in great hands, I would call the nurses at any time of the day and night and they had no problems letting me know how he was doing. They were so sweet, the Doctor he had ,Peter Santana was the best as well, seriously we are so great full to them for what everyone did for him and our family. They treated the family great, we really have no words on how much we appreciate everything they did. The therapist as well were the best, the aids I mean I can’t stop mentioning people they were WONDERFULLY!!
Fantastic experience: I spent approximately three and a half weeks at the Spaulding rehab hospital after surgery. The entire staff was very professional and compassionate. From the time I arrived until the day I was discharged it felt like they were totally invested in my recovery. Working with PT, OT and speech kept and me motivated and wanting to do more each day. Christina, the nurse practitioner checked in with me on a daily basis and the nursing staff was also amazing. I am grateful for the care that I received at the Spalding rehab hospital and would highly recommend their facility.
Fantastic experience: My experience at Spalding Cambridge hospital was awesome I had a great staff and great nurse just in great CNA I would also like to include tashi as one of the best RN nurses Chanel Veronica Melissa Julia Courtney and Megan and for the CNAs would be Renee Amy Julia and Andrea also I would like to include Mike and William and Ishmael I had an awesome experience while I was there and I bless them all for being so nice to me and taking care of my needs thank you so much and Pauline thank you for everything

Fantastic experience: I got a brain surgery done when I was 21 and with it came a stroke. I was at Spaulding for a few weeks and it was great. I can walk again, talk again, getting my right hand back to. I get a new brace on my right leg so I can walk, every doctor and therapist I see or saw is or was great to. There are outpatient Spaulding’s in multiple places where I can get OT for my right hand, PT for my balance and walking and Speech when I have trouble understanding what I’m saying. I get Botox for my hand there, my therapeutist showed me a brace that’s supposed to help my right arm and hand to ‘wake up’ and now my hand is more open and my arm is in position and doesn’t need Botox on it anymore. Spaulding is one of the places I feel the safest.
Fantastic experience: Spaulding Hospital Rehab in Cambridge, Massachusetts is a 5 Star hospital. I felt so safe and cared for. Every nurse that I had the pleasure to work with were kind and understanding but, my favorite nurse was Amber’ LeBlanc who was there for me no matter what I said or did. She impressed me so much with her kindness and compassion plus her work ethics were excellent and everything you want to see in a nurse. She made me feel so special. I felt like I was in a luxurious hotel. All of the nurses were fantastic towards me and I love them all for taking such good care of me. The CNA’s were also excellent in taking care of me. They helped me in so many ways and I was just more than satisfied with all of the staff that was there making sure I was comfortable and getting the help I needed. The food that I had to eat was the best I’ve ever had in a hospital. It was delicious! When it was time for me to leave Spaulding, I cried my eyes out because I was losing my safety nest and all of the wonderful people that took such good care of me. Spaulding Hospital you Rock!!!

Negative experience: Spaulding Rehab Hospital of Cambridge is a place I would never recommend to anyone looking to get better. If the patient is looking to go to a nursing home and never get quality of life back this is the place to go. We were told that this place was the same as Spaulding of Boston. Lies. I spent three months in the hospital sitting beside my daughter making sure she didn’t lose any range of motion. Within one week her left hand lost more than 80% of that range of motion in her left hand. She was at this place for two in a half months and never gained. They say that Rehab is available 5-7 days a week for up to three hours. My daughter only saw her physical therapist one a week, and therapy aids one a day for one part of the body stretch never full body and they only worked for 20 min. Occupational therapy was at least twice to three times a week but with my daughter's condition she needed consistency. The doctors and nursing staff were great with her but were quick to medicate when she was bored and looking for something to do. They have no visitation due to the pandemic but offer no activities other than sit in your room and stare at walls. This place has no care for your complaints and no drive to see anyone get better. When I asked to have her transferred I was always told that she’s not ready but they do nothing to get her better. I finally decided to take her home and have visiting nursing and physical therapy come. And everyday she is showing improvement. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!!
Negative experience: If I could give them negative stars I would. Do NOT I repeat do NOT ever put a loved one here unless you want Spaulding to kill them. Absolute worse decision I have ever made in my life. All they care about is over medicating, and giving meds that are dangerous and not needed, removing the patient and family's rights away, abusing the patient. Do not place your loved one here unless you want them to slowly be killed. Buried my loved one few weeks ago because Spaulding killed em.
Fantastic experience: Excellent facility. I requested to come here because I knew I would get the care needed. Everyone is the facility is very friendly, caring and all about care...and I’m talking about the non-med positions (food service, facility care team etc). I’m grateful this facility is here!
Fantastic experience: I was here for PT, OT, and wound care for about 6 weeks, following a lengthy stay at MGH in their ICU due to Covid. The doctors, nurses, and therapists at Spaulding Cambridge were all great. I very much appreciated their care of me.
Fantastic experience: Positive: Communication , Professionalism Positive: Communication , Professionalism
Negative experience: I had to take a little time to think before leaving this review because my Uncle received great care from some of the staff here. The PT and OT staff are amazing. His Social worker was awesome! The staff in the financial department and most of the nurses and aids have been amazing. The reason I have to give 2 stars is because of my Uncle’s case manager. She was abrupt, rude, and dismissive whenever I attempted to communicate with her and ask questions. She was set on my Uncle needing a skilled nursing facility to care for his tracheostomy. My Uncle ran out of rehab days on his insurance plan and she sent him to a horrendous facility that had zero Respiratory Therapists to help care for his tracheostomy. My Uncle’s case manager placed him at the first facility that had an open bed. In the last two weeks my Uncle was not cared for properly and even has scratches on his body from being physically abused at the facility he was placed at by his case manager. I’m pretty sure she would not have sent someone she loves there. Thank you to all of the wonderful staff at Spaulding who truly cared for and about my Uncle! Shame on his case manager for dumping him off at a facility with staff that are physically and emotionally abusive. Thankfully my Uncle has people who love and care for him because he was moved to a great facility that will care for and help him continue making progress so he can eventually return home. If left at Watertown Health Center he probably would have died!
Fantastic experience: Awesome physical therapists.
Fantastic experience: SPAULDING employees and seniors get 25% off of everything in the cafeteria
Negative experience: Absolutely horrendous care, communication, cleanliness, never mind the constant violations of medical proxy. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here
Negative experience: INEXPERIENCED AND INCOMPETENT STAFF! HORRIBLE place!!! MANY PATIENTS DIE HERE DUE TO LACK OF PROPER CARE. (Dont believe me? read the previous reviews). THE WORST NURSING STAFF AND "DOCTORS" I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. This place ultimately led to my mothers death. My mother was discharged from Brigham and Women's Hospital with the need for further care at a rehab facility that specializes in oncology in order to recondition herself with physical therapy. Not only did we have to speak up in order for my mother to in fact have physical therapy every single day, (the whole reason why she was even sent to this hell hole in the first place), but we had to speak up to complain about their completely inexperienced nurses including RNs AND NPs. I asked the RN that was on that day with my mother "Did my mother have PT today" The response I got was "Idk ask the NP". So the NP comes in I asked her the same, her response was "I dont know, Ask the RN". This is the response you get from a facility that prides itself on patient focused care that specifically focuses on physical therapy? This place is a joke to say the least. Can a dog throw on scrubs and a stethoscope around its neck and push a cart into a patients room with medication and be automatically considered a registered nurse? Where is the standard here.. When my mother was sent here from Brigham she had absolutely NO infection. In the days before her death she was coughing and spitting up. When i called a nurse in to tell her she spit up one of her pills the response I got was "let me get her another one". I did NOT call you in for another pill. I called you in to in fact evaluate the situation and see that my mother had some type of cold/infection and has been coughing and spitting up for a reason. As an oncology patient this should cause some kind of alert to the nursing staff AND the doctor to in fact get the proper care to be TREATED for infection because of her high risk. The doctor ordered a CT and we were told "it looks like there could be something there but its not something to be alarmed and shes getting just one light antibiotic to treat it". A few days later we get a call from her doctor at Spaulding saying its urgent. We call back only to hear our mother went into cardiac arrest and shes being rushed in ambulance back over to Brigham. When we get to Brigham we were told she had a SEVERE INFECTION - Sepsis and pneumonia. AND SPAULDING WAS NOT TREATING HER FOR EITHER. By the time she got to Brigham and Women's it was too late and the infection was so severe she could not breathe on her own. The next day she was pronounced dead. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! All of this could have been avoided had she had the PROPER CARE! This place needs to invest in proper EDUCATION and experience for their incompetent nursing staff (who cant even get a bubble out of an IV line). Just because you graduated a random nursing school does not mean you have the experience and knowledge to treat and care for a patient on a daily basis, especially when their lives depend on it. But then again how would you expect a facility to hold their nursing staff responsible when the doctors themselves take no responsibility for their actions??? Bottom line: Unless you would want your family member to be Spauldings' guinea pig, Send your loved one elsewhere before its too late!!!
Fantastic experience: Great staff. Wonderful care from nurses, doctors, cnas PT and OT. Wouldn't hesitate to go back. You can tell the staff like working there.
Positive experience: Most of the staff genuinely care but like all places, there are all types of employees. We had to remain with our son to ensure that he received proper care. This was no easy task. I would only recommend the facility if the patient can advocate or has a friend or family member that can stay with them most of the time to ensure optimal care is provided. The place is very old, loud and can be chaotic at times, but they try to make the best of it. Oh, the best part is that parking is free.
Positive experience: Rehab hospital
Positive experience: Good place, good caring for your family
Fantastic experience: I worked here for today to cover for someone.
Negative experience: This place is horrible. If I was not paying attention my mom would be in her death bed. My mother's blood pressure was really low then they came to give her more blood pressure medication that would have brought it down more. If I didn't say anything about it they would have given it to her. It takes an hour after you ring the bell for somone to come. Bad place don't bring your family here. On top of that my mom is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday and her case manager had no clue! He calls to tell me my mother is going home the same day as surgery. Um...what? She suppose to be here for therapy which she's barely had. Doctor's are always rushing and don't listen to concerns.
Fantastic experience: The staff here is both friendly and knowledgeable. Personalized programs and you see the same nurses and doctors on a regular basis instead of one of the "team of doctors" you receive at Mass General. I have read the negative comments and actually wonder what rehab these people were in. You will get out of this the more you put into it. People commenting on aggressive behavior are probably not putting the proper efforts necessary and expected to get better.
Negative experience: Back in March my dad went to the oncology rehabilitation ward in Spaulding Cambridge a week after brain surgery at MGH for REHAB.. This horrible place led to his ultimate death several months later. I thought it was the best place for him given it's outstanding reputation. However, the Cambridge facility is quite different, especially the cancer ward. He was there for PT, which he barely had. His brain surgeon believed my Dad would regain full use of his leg (which was very weak due to the surgery) within a short time. The physical therapist there told me several times she knew better than his brain surgeon, doctors don't always know what they're talking about and my Dad was never going to walk again. That's exactly her words! Because of her opinions, the staff left him in bed 24/7 and filled him full of unnecessary drugs which caused horrible delirium and eventually a very serious pneumonia. I demanded they stop giving him unneeded medication, they ignored me and kept switching him to different antidepressants, sedatives and even marijuana pulls!!! Day after day I begged the doctors and nurses to do something because he was getting worse, his own brain surgeon, oncologist and radiologist said he should be getting better, but the nurses and doctors all shrugged and said he was "sundowning" and "they all do that", referring to his confused, aggressive behavior. He was having trouble speaking, couldn't eat anything, was extremely confused and had violent outbursts out of the blue. My Dad was never like that! He left MGH fine after the surgery!!! They tried to convince me this was all par for the course and completely normal. Except again, his own doctors said it was not and they even called Spaulding to tell them that! But their calls and my pleas were ignored! Then, after about 10 days, he came down with pneumonia, except they didn't know what was wrong with him!! They kept saying maybe he has a UTI maybe he has some pneumonia we're really not sure. "Maybe that was causing the horrible mood swings and lack of appetite". What kind of hospital can't diagnose and treat someone with pneumonia?!! And what kind of doctors don't know patients get pneumonia if they leave them in bed 24/7??? I have no medical background and I knew this! Three long horrible weeks my Dad was in this awful place until he got so sick his radiation oncologist admitted him to MGH. Not the Spaulding doctors, his radiation oncologist who saw him for the first time!!! When I told him what had been going on he was appalled!! Two days after his admission to Mass General, my Dad was better and they had him up with a walker!!! Something Spaulding refused to do! Sadly, those three weeks robbed my Dad of the opportunity to get the planned immunotherapy he needed however, and his cancer got worse while lying in that God forsaken hell hole. I brought him home the beginning of April and he had at home PT and OT, but he had missed the window of opportunity for treatment. He passed away three weeks ago. While he was in MGH I told all of this to a doctor there, voicing my frustration with Spaulding and how they had mistreated my Dad and how I thought they were THE best rehab around, the doctor response? "Spaulding in Cambridge isn't the same as Spaulding in Boston, it's run completely different".!!! If I had known that, I never would have let my Dad go there. Lastly, the day my Dad left Spaulding a nurse there actually said to me " patients and their families expect to come here to get better and go home but that usually isn't the case ". ITS A REHAB!!! Isn't that what rehabilitation is There was absolutely no medical reason my Dad should not have gotten better and gone home from there. I tell our story as a warning to anyone considering this place for themselves or a loved one. Please do your research first!!
Negative experience: Spaulding Rehab ambulance picked up my 90-year old father-in-law from Mass General. He had his wallet, cell phone and a knee brace in a personal belongings bag when he left the hospital and when he arrived at Spaulding Rehab, the wallet and cell phone were 'missing'. They said they conducted an internal investigation and have not been able to locate the 'missing' wallet or cell phone. They will not take any responsibility for it and have washed their hands of it. I think it is pathetic that a 'person of trust' (ambulance personnel) would steal from a defenseless, sick old man. Avoid Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital!
