Nicole Haas | Boulder Physiolab | Physical Therapy in Boulder has not yet filled its description.

Providing Boulder physical therapy with an evidence based blend of manual therapy, exercise & biomechanical analysis to address the issue.

and understanding the biomechanics of movement patterns that allow the body to participate in a balanced life. It’s about individualized care to help you achieve your goals, whether you are returning from an injury or wanting to avoid one altogether.

that’s why there’s a whole profession dedicated to managing them. The most challenging and scariest part of dealing with injuries can be knowing what advice to follow and how to get help fast.

Boulder Physiolab uses an evidence-based blend of manual therapy, functional exercise, and biomechanical analysis to address the root of an issue, and to quickly help point things in the right direction.

She is a physical therapist in Boulder, CO, and featured as a topic expert in articles across the outdoor, sports, and medical communities. See what she has to say…

As a physician myself, I may be a relatively harsh judge when it comes to medical providers. Nicole is outstanding. I’ve seen her for shoulder and hip injuries, both results of years of rugby and other sports, and in the setting of current CrossFit participation. In both cases, I saw a sports medicine physician before seeing Nicole, and I felt that I received a more accurate assessment, as well as more useful advice from Nicole than my doctor. I will not hesitate to see her again in the future, and I recommend her highly.

Nicole has helped me (and countless friends) overcome many injuries over the years! As an ultra runner, it’s key having a PT who knows their craft and Nicole is by and far one of the best around. I’ve seen many others throughout the years but none have come close to her knowledge, expertise and assessment capabilities. She will give you a comprehensive understanding of what’s causing your injuries and a clear path to address those so you can get back out there ASAP. If you are struggling with injuries and want to get to the root cause of them, go see Nicole!!

I went to see Nicole while I was pregnant with my second child and experiencing acute back pain that was at times so severe that it caused me to limp. Pregnancy comes with many strange symptoms that disappear once you give birth, so I’d figured I’d just have to wait for relief, but it got to a point where I was really desperate for help and that’s when I reached out to Nicole. In a single appointment, she quickly determined what was wrong and taught me how to fix it. Nicole is intelligent and kind and incredible at what she does. I only ever had that one appointment, but to this day, nearly two years later, I still think about the things Nicole taught me. She eliminated my back pain for the remainder of my pregnancy, and she also taught me things about my posture and how I sit and what kind of stretches and tools work for me that I utilize even now when neck or back pain flares up. I truly cannot recommend seeing Nicole highly enough. She will change your life.

Nicole is pretty much a wizard. Her knowledge of the human body is through the roof. She’s worked on my body various times, for various issues, and she always resolved them. She also sends me home with plenty of exercises to continue the healing. Bottom line, if your body is wrecked, she’ll fix it!

Nicole’s ability to accurately diagnose and efficiently treat an injury I have been dealing with for over a decade was beyond impressive. She is detail oriented and passionate about her work. She truly cares about her patients and went above and beyond to explain and review my treatment plan. I can’t recommend her highly enough, she’s a treasure in the PT/sports medicine world!

I’ve seen approx 5 Physical Therapists in Boulder over my time here (10+ years) and Nicole is by far the best. She is the only PT I’ve encountered who takes a detailed look at your life and how your work/ home/ sporting habits are affecting or contributing to your injuries/ailments. This leads to more than just a set of exercises – Nicole shows you how to change your lifestyle to lead to a healthier body and ultimately a happier life – and yes – less visits to the PT.

Fantastic experience: Nicole is FASTASTIC! She has so much PT experience/research knowledge and is an excellent listener and see-er, all of which she brings along with an open mind and a kind supportive demeanor to each patient. She deliverers clear explanations, exercises and lines of communication. I know I am in great PT hands from my direct experience and also witnessing my husband's significant progress earlier.

Fantastic experience: Nicole has seen all six of my sports loving family members for several years. She has an absolute gift for healing our injuries. The way she describes and uses visuals to infom us of what the issue is and how she can help is amazing, even for younger teen boys. Irecommend her to people more often than any other medical related professional I have ever seen.

Fantastic experience: As a lifelong athlete who has competed at high levels in multiple sports like hockey, rugby and martial arts, I have seen top level physicals therapists and sports medicine practitioners from across North America. There are very few people who I would consider having a GIFT in healing problems and spotting root causes and within 10 minutes with Nicole I could tell she has this ability. She also happens to be the nicest person! Get right and see Nicole! Much lover to her.

Fantastic experience: Nicole is hands down the best PT I've worked with. She provided me with root analysis of my injuries and taught me ways to fix them on my own. Her exercises were instrumental in helping me stay healthy through my first triathlon. I've worked with so many PT's in the past who have band-aided issues or relied too heavily on manual therapy. Nicole's was excellent in getting at the source of my pain and nagging injuries. I can't thank her enough for helping me through training.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a competitive athlete for most of my life, and with that, I’ve endured many injuries. I can honestly say, Nicole is one of the best! She is very thorough with her analysis and is clear at explaining what is wrong and how to fix it. She is positive and I know she brings her best to each patient. I would highly recommend her.

Fantastic experience: Best healthcare experience I've ever had! Nicole is a master of her domain: supremely confident, unwilling to rely on guesswork, she begins with a thorough intake before proceeding to whittle away by process of elimination until a diagnosis is revealed. She also takes great care to see if what she is thinking resonates with you, as well as to educate you so you're fully empowered to take your health in your own hands.

Fantastic experience: Nicole is a phenomenal PT/clinical specialist. Instead of just following a few rote processes and bringing you in three times a week (who has time for that?!) she identifies the root weaknesses/instabilities and gives you detailed instructions including photos of you performing the actions correctly so you can work on strengthening your body to resolve the current issue and reduce the likelihood of future, associated injuries. Worked with her on a range of running (leg) and shoulder injuries over the years and I have never had a comparable experience with any other PT. Really can’t recommend her highly enough. Go see her :)

Fantastic experience: Nicole Haas is an exceptional physical therapist. I have come to her with multiple different injuries and she is beyond knowledgable and helpful. She is incredibly kind and very passionate about her practice. I would highly recommend her!

Fantastic experience: Nicole was knowledgeable, attentive and compassionate in her approach to finding the root cause of my injuries. I appreciated her thoroughness and references to the most up to date research. After two years of struggling with other PT exercises, Nicole gave me directed exercises that have finally sent me in the direction to pain free running. I would highly recommend her!

Fantastic experience: I have seen Nicole at her practice periodically over the last few years for various sports-related injuries, and I cannot recommend her enough! In fact, I tell all of my family and friends to go and see her. Nicole does a fantastic job at diagnosing the issue quickly, teaching about/explaining the problem, and giving a simple and actionable plan that works! When I first saw her, I thought my running days were nearly over due to constant injuries, and now, I am able to continue to do the things I love with minimal issues and a little fine tuning here and there.

Fantastic experience: Nicole is one of the top PTs in Boulder. She takes the time to understand your individual work/life/sport situation and prescribes exercises tailored to you. Her written instructions help you stay on top of technique. And she is up to date on current research in her field. But most importantly, she gets results.

Fantastic experience: Nicole is like the Dr. Dre of physical therapy -- a maven hailing from Southern California. Both Nicole and Dr. Dre have decades of experience and have seen (and contributed to) the evolution of their respective fields, all while refining their individual crafts. I would recommend Physiolab for all your issues, acute or Chronic. Hip-hop metaphors aside, Nicole has a keen eye and a lot of knowledge but is able to explain things in a way patients can understand.

Fantastic experience: Nicole was very professional and has a great attention to detail! Her knowledge and experience is vast and she was quickly able o dial in on my running form issues and address some muscle imbalances and tightness I've been having with an individualized approach. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I have been to see Nicole for running related problems and for preventative measures. She is superb. She listens, examines, formulates, communicates, shows and explains things in insightful, meaningful and practical ways. The end result is a road to improvement, a good understanding of the causes, issues, and a prognosis. And she follows up! She has my highest recommendation without a single reservation.

Fantastic experience: Nicole is an amazing PT who listened to my needs and provided functional and easy to understand exercises. She took photos of me doing the exercises and wrote out detailed instructions. She provided manual therapy to my shoulder and arm and I now have more range of motion and less pain with activities. I would highly recommend Nicole!

Fantastic experience: Nicole's passionate about helping her patients be the best version of themselves while nudging patients to achieve more than they thought possible. She is invested in her patients as people, not just another body that needs fixing. I especially appreciate her educational approach to help me understand what's happening with my body and comprehend the "why's" behind the exercises or therapies employed. Additionally, she is very down to earth and exceptionally open to working with other practitioners to achieve a 360 degree recovery plan. Excellent PT and person.

Fantastic experience: Another patient referred me to Nicole and I'm glad they did! I've been dealing with a foot issue, and Nicole guided me through some body mechanics, showing me some obvious things (which weren't obvious to me!) that I need to work on to rebalance some aspects of my stability. Gave me a list of exercises and practices to do on my own to relieve the issue - refreshing when a PT gives you some instructions how to work on things yourself and be available if you have any questions in the process. Hopefully on my way to some pain free hiking and skiing!

Fantastic experience: Dr. Haas is the best of the best! Besides being profoundly knowledgable and deeply experienced, she is meticulous, thorough and invested in whether or not you understand what's going on in your body and why the treatment will help. I can't recommend her highly enough!

Fantastic experience: Nicole is great! Everyone in our family has used her for assistance with injuries. My pre-teen and now teen daughter loves going to her. As a former gymnast, Nicole has been really helpful understanding her gymnastics-related issues. She even helped diagnose a more significant elbow problem and referred us to a Children's orthopedic specialist when it was beyond something PT could fix. She's helped us with elbows, knees, ankles and much more! Best PT in town.

Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a world class physical therapist who combines in-depth knowledge of her field, with practical experience and true commitment to her patients, search no more. Dr. Haas provides all of that and more. She takes the time to understand the recovery needs and concerns of her patients to develop a treatment plan, and acts as an advocate for her patients towards their recovery. Her PT approach is individualized for each patient and driven by her knowledge and sincere care. I cannot recommend Nicole high enough.

Fantastic experience: Nicole came highly recommended from my favorite and trusted acupuncturist/friend/mountain athlete. I've been working with Nicole for three months now, and she's the most effective physical therapist I've worked with. Not only am I recovering from my chronic injury, but I'm rebuilding strength and abolishing the bad habits that landed me in pain. It's been hard to be patient with my progress, but looking back I'm thrilled with how my body has responded to Nicole's instruction. She is an expert in her field and I knew from day one that I was in the best care possible. I sing her praises daily, and I think we'd all benefit from having Nicole guide us toward better body function!

Fantastic experience: Nicole came highly recommended by a trusted friend to help me with a nagging, intermittent inner thigh strain/pull. In just a few sessions, she assessed the problem, provided great advice as to how to mindfully move in my day-to-day so as not to exacerbate the problem (which I had been doing), and both taught and documented for me a series of exercises to strengthen specific supporting muscles to aid in healing. Nicole is knowledgeable, gentle (but firm), and welcoming. I was comfortable and genuinely felt that she was interested in helping me as quickly and simply as possible. She followed up between visits via e-mail and never pushed me to do anything I didn't want to do. I would gladly recommend her highly to anyone needing her services.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Haas (Nicole) helped me recover from nerve issues related to a torn labrum. I am a Crossfitter, and one day started getting nerve pain in my hip. Nicole diagnosed the issue, conservatively treated the issue until more extensive intervention was needed, and then helped me during my recovery. She gave me the tools I needed to recover and to sustain my health. She is an excellent doctor who not only treats her patients, but teaches them so they can prevent future injury. I have never met a doctor who cares more deeply about her patients than Nicole. No matter where I'm at, whether Colorado or somewhere else, I will always go to or contact Nicole first if I have an injury or issue arise.

Fantastic experience: Nicole is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. After repeated ankle sprains, I was grateful to get connected with her. She quickly determined weaknesses in my movement patterns, then prescribed a treatment plan that was easy to follow and effective. With a research based background and focus on educating the patient, she is extremely effective in her work. I highly recommend her.

Fantastic experience: Nicole Haas is an exceptional practitioner. She came recommended from a friend and I easily recommend her to anyone I know needing a skilled, competent and kind ally on the journey to recovery. Nicole's knowledge of the body joined with her passion and experience as an educator has helped me know my own body better. Each time I see her I leave with a very manageable and enjoyable home exercise plan. You will be in good hands with Nicole!!

Fantastic experience: Nicole is awesome! I went in because my knees were hurting all the time. She worked with me to 1) address the problem and 2) come up with strengthening strategies for my hips, hamstrings, and glutes to keep me strong and healthy even after my knees got better. That way, I can continue to do my favorite sports and activities and address any new issues that might arise. I appreciate her whole-body approach and how she teaches you to get to know your own body. She was also available by email if I had questions between appointments. I'm sad I moved away from Boulder so I can't keep seeing her.

Fantastic experience: After two visits with Nicole I am now out of chronic lower back pain and dysfunction that I had been living with for years. I had seen chiropractors and body workers which felt good, but offered no lasting results. Nicole was there for me via email as much as I needed until I was out of the weeds. She really cares about her patients, and her goal is to get them well. It is unusual to find a practitioner in any area of medicine who is this good. Nicole is an outstanding PT, and I highly recommend her.

Fantastic experience: This is long over due... but I wanted to make sure I had a chance to provide some input on my experience with Nicole. I came to Nicole around the middle of July in 2017 after breaking my shoulder in a mountain bike accident. Not fun, broke the humerus clear across and had to have a plate and 7-8 screws to repair it. I was cleared for PT and I went right to a guy I met at CrossFit Sanitas that told me that Nicole was amazing and had really helped him with his back. I was able to get regular appointments with Nicole and she was excellent. Most people in my situation dont get back a full range of motion and I am happy to say with the right pacing, reassurance, and a personalized video outlining new exercises to do at home after most sessions- I was golden. I did do my exercises religously and I was able to see Nicole twice a week for several months. We went down to once an week and now I have completed my PT with about 98% of the range of motion I had before and almost no pain. Nicole was the perfect PT for me--- she knew I would go crazy not exercising for too long but at the same time was clear with me that while I could do some things for cardio - there were certain exercises and household tasks that would affect my recovery..... I am pretty much back to my usual activity level and I know if I tweek that shoulder that Nicole will most probably be able to help me out ! On top of her skills- she has a great manner- definitely serious about the work and very thorough but at the same time she is funny as hell and kept me from getting down when things felt like they were not progressing fast enough......... Thanks, Nicole !!

Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend Nicole enough. I actually looked forward to my visits with Nicole as she helped me fully recover from a badly sprained ankle. Nicole was easy to work with, easy to understand and I love that her approach is progressive, but not aggressive. Nicole also communicated directly with my coach which helped me daily in my personal training.

Fantastic experience: I've worked with Nicole a couple of times, once to prepare for a surgical procedure, and once for some nagging knee pain, the source of which I couldn't identify. In both cases, Nicole helped tremendously. The preparation we did for my surgery allowed me to come out of it ahead of schedule. I was back to CrossFit workouts within weeks of surgery, and a lot of that is due to the work I did with Nicole. She is patient and thoughtful in her approach. Her depth of knowledge never ceases to amaze me, I love people who geek out on what they do the way Nicole does. She listens carefully and explains thoroughly what she's doing and why. And she's been a great resource to check in with occasionally, she's always generous with her time and knowledge.

Fantastic experience: Nicole gave me the tools to completely transform my fitness routine and ability by enabling me to work past old injuries and reach goals I never thought I would be capable of meeting. Her holistic approach to identifying root cause, and precise methodology of supporting corrections allowed me to fully strengthen a rehabilitate an ankle injury dating back more than a decade. She is truly a phenomenal resource!

Zachary King 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: Nicole's thoughtful and straightforward approach helped me remain healthy and injury free for the entirety of 2018. I first met with her in early 2018 complaining of minor injuries and muscle imbalances that had prevented me from completing a 100 mile race in 2017. She was able to immediately identify what was going on and provide me with different solutions on how to treat some muscle imbalances and weaknesses that I had. I saw almost immediate improvement. I also had a running gait analysis which confirmed a few things that I was already aware of. Nicole was great though in teaching me ways to identify proper form and cadence versus incorrect. I appreciated her approach of always being available but not having unnecessary appointments. Nicole provided me with the education and tools to stay healthy and made it so I didn't need to set-up regular appointments. She is always available for a quick call or email with questions which was nice for getting additional information that didn't require a full appointment or analysis. Highly recommend seeing Nicole.

Fantastic experience: After months of searching for a PT who would help me reach my running goals I found Nicole. Other PTs were happy with "good enough", after foot surgery my new normal was to be running a few miles everyday. That didn't sit well with me. Nicole never flinched when I told her I had ultras in mind and stable, consistent running. She developed a program for me and made herself available to my late night emails wondering if I had pushed the envelope just a little too much. Nicole is kind, thoughtful, and tenacious. She doesn't give up in her patients! She develops a custom plan just for you and updates it as you progress and get stronger. Nicole is an industry expert. This woman knows her stuff. Go see Nicole for PT that is effective, persistent, and for me life changing. I ran 3 ultras last year and have half a dozen more on the books for 2019 - thank you Nicole!

Alyssa Pols 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: I can't recommend Nicole any higher! She always took the time to get to the root of my pain. My first visit, she did a full assessment from my head to my toes to try and figure out what was truly causing my pain. I didn't see her for an injury - it was more of an ongoing pain that Nicole helped alleviate. Not only that but she was able to help me continue with barre fitness classes that I enjoy by suggesting appropriate modifications. Nicole is extremely knowledgeable and approachable as well. I would recommend (and have done) her services to anyone needing an excellent PT!

Rebecca Ochtera 8 years ago

Fantastic experience: Nicole is amazing! For over a year I was dealing with an injury that kept me from running and regular PT with someone else helped but didn't resolve the issue. Then I met Nicole and she had me on the running trail in about 6 weeks with simple exercises and adjustments I could easily fit into my regular day. I was pain free and running regularly for almost three years. Just recently (because of lots of sitting and travel and not exercising) I ended up starting to feel the same issue again. It took a little work but I was finally able to track her down in Boulder-she actually remembered me and my issue and with just one session I was again feeling much better with a personalized plan for getting back on track. She doesn't just work on the issue, she teaches you how to be your own healer and wants you to be at your best as soon as possible. I highly recommend her-especially for hip/knee and running injuries.

Eva Teague 8 years ago

Fantastic experience: Nicole is an incredible PT who is committed to helping you return to the activities you love! I saw a number of medical professionals about my knee, and almost all of them told me "Crossfit is bad, stick to the elliptical." Nicole actually helped uncover the reasons why I was getting hurt and explained things to me in a way I could understand. My situation was complex but Nicole has been a great guide on the road to good biomechanics and a happy knee--I only wish I'd gone to see her sooner!

Fantastic experience: Nicole is one of the most intuitive, well read, insightful people I’ve ever met. My experience with PT (as someone who has been in chronic pain for 11 years) has been spotty at best, but after meeting and working with Nicole, I became a believer. She also cares deeply for her clients, and stays in touch after your session with research she finds and ideas she has to help. I can not recommend her enough:)!

Fantastic experience: I have seen Nicole for 2 different injuries. Both times she carefully assessed what was going on to give me the right diagnosis the first time and an effective treatment plan. She gives you the tools to put your recovery in your own hands as much as possible and is available for follow up questions. She covers not only acute recovery but long term maintenance and prevention by addressing the root cause of weakness, imbalances and/or mobility issues. Nicole gets the athlete mentality and helps you understand what activities you can continue to do safely, both in sports and your everyday life during different stages of recovery. She helps you understand daily activities that may be contributing factors and how to modify them. After seeing Nicole for my patellar tendonitis I was back to squatting with better form and mechanics and hitting personal bests in 3 months, but more importantly I have continued building from there without recurrence.

Tessa Hart 8 years ago

Fantastic experience: Nicole is seriously the best PT I’ve seen. Not only is she highly intelligent but she’s super patient and will give you the most attentive one-on-one time. I can tell she loves her job and loves to help people. You’ll leave with answers to help solve your injury, as well as a ton of exercises and videos for at-home practice.

Fantastic experience: Nicole was an amazing resource for me during my recovery from a total hip replacement as I transitioned back into a full fitness routine. I worked with her to develop a personalized plan to understand how my new hip would work in various new movements and exercises so I could begin doing CrossFit. I highly recommend working with Nicole if you need physical therapy. She is excellent!

Gabriel Nelson 8 years ago

Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough great things about Nicole. She is a true healer and is such an amazing person on top of that. I came in for tightness and soreness in my shoulder (rhomboid area) that I had been experiencing for over a year. Within two sessions, Nicole made the pain go away, and even more importantly, she gave me some genuine insight into the source of the pain. Her treatment method is evidence based, and I could feel a difference in shoulder mobility after just a few exercises with Nicole, which she tested in order to be sure we had made progress. She also explained things in terms of anatomy and specific movement patterns, and I felt like I came away with some long-term solutions to this problem. I cannot recommend Nicole enough- she is super smart and a great healer, and I came away from our sessions feeling like she had gotten to the root of the problem, and that she had explained everything thoroughly as we went along. Because the treatment went so well, I even brought up another issue, and she got right to the heart of that, and again set me up for a thorough and long-term therapy program.

Fantastic experience: Nicole helped me recover from some serious and debilitating pain in my lower back. She's knowledgeable, caring, and truly enjoys her work, as evidence by the extensive knowledge she has amassed in this field. She tailored a treatment plan just for me and once even rigged a cane out of random things so I could walk home. She is gentle and extremely competent, as well as encouraging. I've had amazing results and wonderful care - thank you Nicole!

Fantastic experience: Nicole is a phenomenal therapist! I’ve seen her on a few occasions, primarily for running ailments but also for a strained shoulder. She is truly remarkable in her ability to diagnose the underlying issue, and provide treatment that remedies it. Afterwards, she’s thoughtfully checked in with me to see how I was healing and to answer any questions that arise. I’ve also had Nicole perform a gait analysis for me, which has been instrumental to improving my running form and reducing injuries. I’ve worked with a number of good therapists over the years. Without question, Nicole is the best and I highly recommend her.
