ProActive Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine: Carlsbad

Fantastic experience: Went to see Aimee for a nagging tennis elbow injury that was not healing after a year. My Ortho was considering PRP or surgery but suggested PT for 6 weeks first. Aimee is attentive, personable, and tailored her approach to my injury. 6-8 weeks later and I am pain free and avoided an intrusive procedure. Thank you Aimee and the Proactive team!

Positive experience: Occupational Therapist gets 5 stars but the physical therapists get 1 star especially Bill. He will explain the lein process to you at every appointment whether you want him to or not. Super hard to get appointments in a timely manner and they don't explain anything. It's great if you want self service therapy. Turnover with staff is very high.

Fantastic experience: I did a number to my lower back a few months ago, and Carol was a godsend. When I first saw Carol I was barely able to stand straight, let alone continue with my usual activities. Carol was patient and persistent and ultimately helped to get me back to doing what I loved pain free. Thank you, Carol!

Fantastic experience: Everyone has been very kind and helpful here, and they are doing an excellent job in helping me regain full use of my right arm after a fractured elbow and partially torn tendon. In just 4.5 weeks I went from having perhaps 30-50% function in my arm to 85-90% and I still have a few visits left. I especially want to thank Carol and Enzo whom I have worked with the most, but everyone there is great!

Positive experience: Loved my therapists but they have pretty shady business practices. They held onto 180.00 for two years. I called and called over a 24 months period trying to get it straightened out and get refunded, only to find out I no longer have a balance. There was no correspondence, no true explanation other than “ it’s unfortunate” nobody communicated with you. Such shady business practices and I have no recourse after 2 years. Lame.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend. Aimee is an awesome hand therapist who relieved my hand problems and gave me exercises. She has a fantastic personality and is very professional - if I could give her 10 stars- I would.

Today was our last day of PT & let me tell you - I’m a different person walking out of here than I walked in!! Felt so cared for the entire time!! Best staff ever!! I had bilateral knee replacements in November and with the help of Bill, Anton and Carol, I’ve made it back to playing pickleball 4-5 days a week. The entire staff is professional and caring. Fantastic experience: This is my third series of treatments with ProActive Physical Therapy, the others having taken place in late 2020 and late 2022. Bill Kosik heads a team of competent, caring and professional individuals, each of whom works to assure productive and enjoyable sessions for their patients, with a little humor thrown in for good measure. I cannot laud their praises enough! Perhaps someday I'll write a song about how great they are... In the meantime, I give ProActive Physical Therapy my highest recommendation. There is simply no reason to seek treatment of this nature anywhere else!

I especially like going during less busy hours when I feel like I can even take a quick nap during Stim and icing while I relax!

Fantastic experience: My left shoulder was "shredded" to quote the surgeon and I did not realize how long it would take to just to get back to doing normal everyday things let alone back to my normal workout routine. I had a torn labrum, 3 partial tears in rotator cuff muscles (one needed to be repaired surgically) tendonitis and "fluid" on the shoulder. Three weeks or so after my surgery I was written a Rx for PT and I choose ProActive Physical Therapy since they were very close to where I live. I was assigned Anton as my Physical Therapist. Anton is a true professional with an unwavering focus on my rehabilitation and overall physical health. We started with the basics and as my shoulder improved he made many adjustments to my regimen including the exercises that I was assigned to do at home. I put in a lot of effort in rehabbing at home and kept an open dialogue with Anton with what I was doing. I tend to overdo it sometimes and backed off based on Anton's guidance. I am glad he was a little firm with me about a few things that I should not have been doing. He took time to explain to me movements to avoid and why along the exercises to focus on and why they helped my shoulder. He listened (and remembered) many things that I have told him over the last 7 months since I started and kept me focused and challenged. I credit my recovery to his work, overall concern, knowledge and recommendations. In a few days I have what may be my last PT visit and my shoulder is the strongest that it has been years. Weight and rep counts are higher than they were 4-5 years ago just as my shoulder first started to show signs of deterioration. I still have a little more to do to get back to 95-99% but I am close. My shoulder has not felt this good in several years. I will continue doing many of the exercises Anton prescribed at home for the next several months because they are definitely helping my shoulder. Thanks to Anton for keeping me in line with his guidance, on track with the assigned home exercises and calm with his patience. Speaking of patience, you cannot find anyone more patient (and kind) than Aleksandr at the front desk. He was very helpful in setting appointments and looking out for my best interests. I was always greeted with a smile and felt like he (and Anton) genuinely cared about my rehabiliation. Early on I was a little grumpy to say the least. I am sure my attitude was not the best especially with a very painful shoulder but it did not phase him at all. He is a very understanding of patient's situations. We need more people like Aleksandr in the world. I highly recommend ProActive Physical Therapy in Carlsbad.

Fantastic experience: I went to ProActive sports in Carlsbad for physical therapy after rotator cuff surgery. The staff, from the receptionists to the physical therapists and the exercise technicians we're all fantastic! They always make sure that you are getting the proper treatments. They share information about your progress with each other so that no matter which therapist you see they know what your needs are. This was actually the second time I've been to ProActive the first time was for a different issue. My experience the first time was so good I asked my orthopedic surgeon for a referral to ProActive for my rotator cuff therapy.

Fantastic experience: ProcActive Physical Theraphy and Sports Medicinal has been top choice for my aches and pain treatment. About 2 weeks ago, I called the Carlsbad office to make appointment to have my shoulder treatment. While I have limited availability and I couldn’t stand the pain any longer, I was glad that they were quick in getting me in. Heather did an assessment test and the treatment gave me tremendous relief in my shoulder pain. With only two treatments, I noticed the increased strength and range of motion to my left shoulder. The entire staffs are courteous, friendly and professional. I recommend ProActive PT without reservations.

Positive experience: UPDATE: I did talk with Proactive today and received a call from one of the owners who told me they will write this off. I had called months ago and thought this was resolved. When we bring our daughter here and are paying the insurance co-pay they tell us to pay, we expect Proactive is a safe place to get Physical Therapy at, so when we get a bill for $650 from Proactive Physical Therapy ...

Negative experience: Have long pondered writing this, but need it off my mind. They started out all "happy folk" that can heal the world, but their pushing my leg beyond what it was up to on the day before Thanksgiving, well it put me in agony all the holiday. Then not a one, even the head Therapist could give the least of an acceptance acknowledgement. Even my Dr said, best you heal without them as you will as a physically active person. My Acupuncturist, Dodie Hemingway, wonderful healer, said "especially for a Type A" stress fractures need rest to heal, then work. She was right, ProActive were WRONG, and did not help in my situation. So, I warn, IMHO they are mostly young and though full of good intentions, not always responsible of having genuine realistic concern despite the perky attitudes.

Fantastic experience: My daughter broke a bone in her wrist and we saw Erin to help her rehab her injury. Erin was fantastic! She was so great with my daughter. Fantastic experience: Carlsbad location has the best staff I’ve ever encountered. I’ve had PT with other companies, but Proactive is The Best! Kaitlyn by far is The Best Physical Therapist I’ve ever had. Very knowledgeable, professional, listens very conscientiously to my feedback and adjusts therapy accordingly. Kaitlyn has such a positive uplifting personality that it helped me be more optimistic and hopeful of a full recovery. As I had nearly all of my 26 treatments with her, she knew my condition very well and was very personable. She gives you the kind of attention, as if nobody else is in the room.....full attention. Thank you Kaitlyn and all of the Carlsbad staff for helping me recover so much.

Fantastic experience: I have gone to Proactive PT in Carlsbad a few times over the years and have been pleased every time! Most recently I was treated by Luke and he helped my back pain immensely. He took the time to listen to my specific needs and address them individually. Further, every time I came in for PT, he asked how I was doing and we focused on what was troubling me at that visit, not just my initial issue. Fantastic experience: I have been going to Proactive Physical Therapy for 1 1/2 years. I was injured in a head on collision with a wrong way driver which I endured 29 broken bones and my whole left side of my body is rebuilt. The staff at the Carlsbad facility is the best I have ever worked with in any of my therapy treatments I have had. Carol, Bill, Alberto, Mike, Meagan, Stacy, Alyssa. Thank you all for making our experience a great one and you guys all treat us like family. I especially like the Aquatic therapy it has brought me a long way from being in a wheelchair to walking with a walker and sometimes a cane. Fantastic experience: ProActive Physical Therapy is the best place to go for physical therapy. I play soccer at California State University San Marcos and ProActive helped me recover three times so that I could get back to playing the sport I love. All of there staff is awesome. They personalize your recovery plan and set individual goals with you. Without ProActive I would have not recovered as well from my ACL surgery, another knee surgery, and an ankle injury. They are the reason I get to fulfill my dream of playing college soccer. Thanks ProActive!!

Fantastic experience: After twenty years of osteoarthritis and two joint replacements, Physical Therapy is a constant part of my life. So after my third joint replacement I was not expecting anything different. Proactiv in Carlsbad really changed my belief system. Bill, Carol, Stacy, Mike, Alyssa and others on staff were professional, positive and prepared to enable me to get back on my feet again. Throughout the 12 weeks they kept me motivated and smiling, working through all issues with patience. The best therapy experience for me EVER.

Negative experience: I have been in Physical Therapy for a number of years after a botched up Fusion where my nerves are caught inside overgrown bone and narrowing of spinal canal. After going to Gaspar (great group) for the past 2 years, I wanted to try another therapist...Bill was my therapist; worked on me for 4-months; he had no idea what to do and made my pain/discomfort even worse. It seems like the only focus is to fill out the survey. I since then started with another company and after only 2 visits feel a lot better and I am able to walk better. The PT aid were great. Appointments were hard to get as they only schedule a month at a time and even on the last week of the current month, can't make appointment for the following month.

Negative experience: The care I received very good care from Carol in my treatment. The problem is your back office. Asked for my records once each week for three weeks and could not get them. I had to drive to your office to get my records by demanding them and not leaving until I got them. Therefore, the administrative function fails in customer service.
