NuVation Pain Group: Phillip Lim, DO, MPH

Positive experience: The office just replied to a six-year-old review I made, so I'm updating it today, 08/01/2023. I saw this doctor in like 2017. At first, I had a decent experience. The doctor was nice and easy to talk to. I believe in total, I received pain injections from this doctor 2 times in my scapular region (shoulder). I got zero relief each time. Like... It would've been better to not receive anything at all. Nada. Nothing. Same goes for the second time. I remember asking "when is it supposed to feel better?" and they said "soon" but soon never came. To this day (2023) I still have scapular pain - I gave up on pain injections as a potential fix. Physical therapy has been the only thing that's helped. I'd not recommend the PT's office next door - they told me "maybe physical therapy just isn't for you" and gave up on me as a patient after a few months of treatment. That experience scarred me from seeking PT as treatment, but luckily I tried it again about 4 years later. I saw a fantastic PT and lo and behold, he figured it out. I'm doing a lot better now (but not totally fixed). Back to NuVation: I don't know if it was the doctor not knowing exactly how to help, not asking the right questions, or if it was me not describing it correctly, but the pain injections just did absolutely nothing for me here. I also recall something weird with billing, like I had to pay more than what was estimated or they didn't know how much everything would cost until it got billed to insurance. It ended up being either thousands or over $1,000, which I had to set up bill pay to NuVation to cover. I hate medical billing. Crazy they don't know how much it'll cost prior to doing it. What other industry is like this?! If I had to do it over again, I wouldn't. Average rating for me since it's been so long and since idk I think I could've handled some things better if I had been a little wiser.

Fantastic experience: This Dr and practice has changed my mind about pain management drs. They all seem so genuine to want to help you and go out of their way to make sure you are taken care of from the receptionist to the drs then selves they have been beyond amazing and I am so glad I have them in my life. Fantastic experience: I love how he spent time withe and talked about the best options for me. I appreciate all his knowledge. He made me feel like there is a lot of hope for me. Fantastic experience: One of the best doctors and practices I’ve been too. And over the last couple of years I’ve been to a lot. Initial exam was really thorough, and detailed. Excellent follow up, and helped me along the way with my surgery. James was especially helpful, and really does care about his patients. Would highly recommend.
