Cary Health and Rehabilitation Center: Reviews
Negative experience: My elderly mom with Alzheimers was sent here after having a 3 week hospital visit to get some strength back. Red flags from the second we got there. After 3 hours of waiting to be greeted upon arrival (transport via ambulance from hospital), not 1 nurse or staff member came in to talk to us. I ended up having to flag someone down. The one nurse was caring for the entire building. Fast forward a day and we come to visit and mom was half out of the bed, one leg on the floor and she couldn’t have done this on her own because of her condition. Also they did not communicate with our family after ensuring poa’s were to be entered into the system prior to mom’s arrival by upper management. It was absolutely disgusting how they treated our helpless mom.
Negative experience: If I could give this place -5 stars I would! My grandmother went here after getting out of the hospital and only made it one night before she was back in the hospital! Staff gave her too much medicine and almost killed her! DO NOT TAKE/LEAVE YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS HERE! The staff is terrible. They do not care about the people here. Do not be fooled by the little paint job and "updates." They should be shut down!
Fantastic experience: If I could I would give them 10 stars! They went above and beyond with my brother. He had to have several hospitalizations and surgerys. He required daily wound care for a large abdominal wound. The treatment nurse exceeded all expectations and healed the wound. My brother is a difficult person to deal with, but they had a tremendous amount of patience with a non-compliant man. Everyone from the administrator all the way down the line is wonderful. He worked with therapy, attended activities, and made friends. Because of the great care he got at Cary, he was treated with dignity and respect, received wonderful care, he was able to return to his apartment and his independence.
We really appreciate that you took the time to share details about your recent visit to our care center. We will be sharing your review with the team as a way to encourage them to continue to strive for excellence in customer service.
Negative experience: Zero stars Is much too good for this facility,I’ve had several other experiences in the county and this is by far the worst one yet. my (95yr old)mom would go days without eating and then they would contact me (days after the alleged fact )and say she refuses to eat (she needs eating assistance) However upon my arrival, I find her her extremely hungry and willing to eat from anyone who would help her, and as it relates loss notable weight!(I am grateful for this one particular employee Who would take the time to feed her, When there) I subsequently tried to reference a employee after The delivery of her tray, I kindly and politely asked if she would help assist my mom with eating her food, because I had to leave. As this employer turns her back to me and proceeded to walk out the room, response “I’m told she feeds herself”and continues to walk down the hall!In addition, She fell out of the bed onto the floor and hurt herself and had to go to the ER, I wish I could say it all stops there! The facility would get her to dialysis for her treatment that starts at 12 noon extremely late, causing her to only Receive haft her treatment, which caused her more medical issues. To add insult to injury the dialysis facility closes at 4:30 PM however, on several several occasions, didn’t pick her up until after the facility was closed (3hrs)at 7:30 PM on more than one occasion! Often bringing her there (dialysis )with her lunch sitting on her lap. I have come to visit her and found her sitting in a wheelchair in her room looking at the walls crying out in pain, for what she describes as a long time(soiled) forever Grateful for the people who helped me get her out of here!!!
Our service promise is to listen to the needs of our residents & their families. We've passed this on to the care center management team. Fantastic experience: I love working here at Cary Rehab! Vickie (DON) is awesome so as Nurse Gary! Coworkers are team players!! I couldn’t ask for better! Our resident’s safety come first here, and they also become family. I look forward to going to work each and every day!
Thank you for taking the time to provide a rating!
Negative experience: Perhaps it's this way at similar facilities, but I can only speak to what I know about this one. Patient belongings continually disappear without explanation. No one seems to know or care what happened. We're talking clothing, dentures etc. The things just walk away. If you're a family with limited resources, and cannot afford to keep replacing things, this is a real problem

Negative experience: I'm only giving them 1 star because some of the nursing staff(Gary and Alice) and one of the therapists (Lauren the speech therapist)were hard working, and seemed to be trying their best. The weekday receptionist is also very nice and friendly. Sadly, quite a lot of the staff we interacted with seemed unhappy, indifferent, and dismissive...maybe overworked and not properly compensated? When we asked to speak with someone in charge, after trying unsuccessfully to get answers about important medications, or the monitoring of serious issues, we were given the run around or the person "in charge" always seemed to be an LPN who never seemed to know anything. When we asked questions, we mostly got sarcastic and/or rude answers, or were simply ignored. The administrator(or director?) and the head of nursing are very condescending and dismissive as well. They both made us feel like we were bothering them or were not important enough to be given their time. A very frustrating experience having a loved one here!

Negative experience: Horrible place to be. I have been here almost 3 years and I was only supposed to be here a few months. After some PT, I was told "insurance " was not going to pay for PT anymore. So I got stuck in bed and ended up with 2 bedsores. I never went anywhere except to change rooms umpteen times. They never put me on my side to get me off my butt which is where 1 bedsore is. In just the past few months I've been lying on my sides. A lot of aides seem like they are only here for the money because they are in and out of the room with hardly any sympathetic care. It could be because they are over worked. A lot of times there are only 3 aides when there are supposed to be 5. A good aide...Eury (2nd shift). He goes out of his way to help you anyway he can. He's one of the few aides who knows how to take care of me properly. I say properly because I used to be over 500 pounds and have lost 200 pounds being here. Us bigger people have more...ummm...skin to care for. A bad one...unknown name (3rd shift). She was mad because I had never asked for her help before and all of a sudden I am. I told her I didn't want her touching me. This is because if they are mad/upset it comes out when they work with you. They may not intend to but it happens. She is the 3rd person I've said not to touch me. I'm not one of these older people that don't say anything when they get mistreated. This facility is always running out of supplies. Most of the time that I've seen is wipes and briefs. The food is horrible. It's been really spicy the past several months. They don't have any type of extracurricular activity for bedbound residents. No more bingo on the TV, no coloring or word searches. When they have parties, we don’t get anything, not even cake. Getting a hold of an office member is laughable. Example: I've left messages for the social worker and she never gets back with me. I continually have to keep calling to talk to her. Do I recommend this place? No. I wish I had never come here.
Our service promise is to listen to the needs of our residents and their families. As such, we've passed this on to the care center management team for awareness. Please call our Consulate Cares line at 1-844-921-2273 for follow-up. Thank you.
Negative experience: Was a patient at this facility for several days after hip surgery with the expectation that PT would begin immediately. It didn't & I ended up with a very serious stomach virus & had to be transported to an ER. The staff is friendly enough, but it's minimal & their hygiene standards should be considered before admitting a loved one here for care.
Your feedback is very important to us as we use it to improve the service we provide. We'd like to better understand your experience. Please call our Consulate Cares line at 1-844-921-2273. Thank you.
Negative experience: My dad had way too many falls while there. He had 3, where he hit his head each time, and I had to tell them to take him to the hospital. Once your loved one is discharged, you will never her from the social worker after calling her with questions. She told me to call her with any questions. I have called her twice in the 5 days that my dad has been home and have yet to hear back from her.
In order for us to fully understand your experience, we would like you to call our Consulate Cares line at 1-844-921-2273 to speak with our team directly. We value all feedback and take the opportunity to review our service promise. Thank you.

Negative experience: As a quick follow-up to my review is that I did not realize how horrible this facility was until he was transferred to a different one after leaving the hospital from his broken shoulder incident. Rehabilitation centers and the such are not something I am familiar with so I can honestly say the while I felt the treatment was not great there, I didn’t compartmentalize how bad it was until we had him placed in a different facility. I know that no place is without its faults and sometimes you come across a bad apple or someone having a bad day but his stay here was horrible from the day he was wheeled in.
Patient and family satisfaction is always our top priority, and we are sorry to hear about your experience with us. We have shared this feedback with the care center and management teams. Negative experience: I did 2 stints at this facility in 2023 and 2 024. I'm a Respiratory Therapist. Medical is very familiar to me. The only saving grace of this facility is the therapy team. They deserve 5 stars You're better off dying than having to live here for any periods of time The day staff for the most part is decent but when 5pm came, you better hope to God you didn't need anything. It took an average of 40 minutes after hitting your call button before a Nurse aide showed up. Several times I laid there needing an ostomy again leaking before I got help. Severely understaffed They don't care. I witnessed an elderly patient being slammed in her wheelchair because she wanted to stand up. The food if you can call it that, is processed garbage. Literally worse than prison food. I have pictures of it! The amount of money I spent on delivery food in order to get proper nutrition was in the hundreds. They can't even meet the basic calories requirement per day just to function. I had days where I never even got fed No one knew what was going on. Missed medication I needed to actually stay alive, wrong doses. This facility needs an ENTIRE investigation by CMS. The only reason I got out of there alive was the therapy team If you plan on having to stay there, don't. You'd be better off at Auschwitz
We value your feedback and take your concerns seriously. We have shared this review with the Executive Director and Corporate management. Please write us at [email protected] with the best way to contact you so we can connect with you someone to speak with you directly. Thank you.
Negative experience: This place is a dump and needs to be closed immediately! I wouldn’t put sick dog in the care in their care. If you want your loved one in a good place dont go here! If you do you’ll regret it I promise!
Your feedback is very important to us as we use it to improve the service we provide. We'd like to better understand your experience. Please call our Consulate Cares line at 1-844-921-2273. Thank you.
Negative experience: My mom has been in room 404 for two weeks. The lights above her bed don't work. I've begged for bulbs. I've told multiple people we don't have light and they say they will tell maintenance. So I taped a note to the door with bandages saying 'we need bulbs to see' and still - nothing. I think you understand my review. If you can't get someone to help with something like a bulb for your entire stay - well just think about that.
We have passed your feedback on to the care center management team. We value your feedback and take your concerns seriously. If you would like to discuss your experience further, please call the Executive Director directly. Thank you.
Negative experience: My elder father was admitted to Cary 13 days ago for physical therapy and rehabilitation. Since being admitted, my sister and I have called Cary over a dozen times trying to reach a case manager or social worker to review his intake evaluation and treatment plan. We just want to talk to someone. Despite continual assurances by the admissions director and nursing staff that someone will reach out to us, no one has. This has been an incredibly frustrating experience and I wish we never admitted him to Cary.

Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a place that cares about your loved one, Cary Health and Rehabilitation Center is a great place to bring them. The first thing I noticed is that the facility is clean and well maintained. The rooms are nice and the environment is pleasant. I brought my father here after he had a severe stroke and the staff has been caring, welcoming and willing to go the distance to make him comfortable. My father has dementia and is not always an easy person to care for. The staff here has been incredible at working with him and meeting him where he is at. The administration at all levels have been extra helpful, approachable and available at all times. I'm grateful to the entire team for being thoughtful, attentive, and warmhearted to my father. The peace of mind they provide is priceless.
Thank you for your kind words! We really appreciate that you took the time to share your experience with us, and we value your opinion. As always, if there's anything we can do for you, please contact the Executive Director or Director of Nursing.
Fantastic experience: This is by far the best Health & Rehab Center I have had family in. They treat each patient as if they were family. My mother has been in the hospital for almost six months , which culminated with blood clots and a leg amputation. They have treated her as if she was family and they work wonderfully with our family to provide the best care for Mom at 80 years old with many commodities. The rehab team is fantastic and Mom now has a prosthetic and much to our pleasant surprise Mom may come home in a few weeks. All of this is done under the direction of the Unit Manager , George Cardenas . I can not say enough good things about George, he is a class act and so attentive.
Thank you for your kind words! We really appreciate that you took the time to share your experience with us, and we value your opinion. As always, if there's anything we can do for you, please contact the Executive Director or Director of Nursing.
Fantastic experience: My partner was just admitted and I cannot be more pleased with the assistance given by all I met with including the Director (Efrem)and Associate Director (Lionel). There is a bit of a journey with this rehab and I know he is in great hands. Hats off!
Thank you very much for letting us know about your experience with us. We've passed this on to our care center family.
Negative experience: This place is terrible they neglect the helpless all they want is a check horrible place food is for prisoners and the management staff everybody needs to be replaced throw the whole building away

Negative experience: The picture with the man on the floor says it all and Kirsten is a liar and also I went to orientation 4hrs I worked 2 8 hr shifts including 3 hrs of the day I left early and I was paid $12 a hr for 4 hours only $46 so find another facility to work for you will work for Free and be lied to just to get you in the door I’m sure it won’t last long never again

Negative experience: One of the cna act like they wanted to fight me pulling their mask off the first time I went to see my grandfather since he’s been there because I asked who I was speaking to and my grandfather was left no blankets cold and begging me not to leave they refuse to clean his mouth and teeth and he is not happy and as a home health care nurse I was very disappointed and I’ve been calling to check on him and gotten no answer

Negative experience: Do not let your loved ones come here!!! They do not care ,are very rude and understaffed. Didn’t check his sugars , didn’t have his meds, his sugars were so high he got keto acidosis and almost died! They do not care or even look at your history because they are just trying to get a check and do the bare minimum . They should be shut down and the people who work here are idiots for the most part. I will be reporting this place due to the neglect! Your better off letting your loved one suffer in the home before letting them go there and die even quicker.
Resident care is our top priority, and as such, we take all concerns seriously. We are actively looking into the alleged circumstances and will involve the appropriate parties as necessary.
Negative experience: Absolute disappointed. My dad has only been there for 5 months and is already getting weaker! he has feet ulcers that nurses did not even check for 2 weeks. They didnt even show him for 4 weeks! food is nasty and there is only 1 nurse that is caring. other are so rude and dont even care. I want to see an improvement to this rehab and nursing home. I Will be filling a complaint

Fantastic experience: Extremely proud to serve on the leadership team here at Cary Health and Rehab. We have a great group truly committed to caring for and serving our residents. I would love to meet you and introduce you to our new team!
Thank you, Efren! We appreciate you and the service you provide to our family of residents and other caregivers.
Negative experience: I’d give this a 1 star if I can. This company states they care about resident care. But they clearly don’t care about a human life. Its all money. They can’t even have their patients sent out to their appropriate appointments. The board clearly needs do so a rebuild. Because the current chairs are not succeeding. These other google reviews make it pretty obvious.
We value your feedback and take your concerns seriously. We have shared this review with the Executive Director and corporate management. Please call us at the care center so we can follow-up with you directly. Thank you.
Positive experience: Cary Health and Rehab has an awesome and caring staff. The Aids and Nurses give excellent care and are super patient with my mom. Several Aids have gone beyond the scope of work taking care of her daily. The PT & OT Team have worked tiredleslessly with Mom. She has improved immensely over they last few weeks. Looking forward to continue working with this staff. Thank you for the great care.
Thank you for sharing this feedback with us. We are always striving to provide the best patient and family experience. If you have further details about this, please contact the care center directly. Thank you.
Negative experience: Rarely do I give a bad review, I have many on here . From all over even from overseas when I visited. But this was the last straw today. I work for an outside company that helps people. I was hired to help a person in this facility. This morning the woman at the front desk told me I wasn't supposed to be using their masks..she said my agency is supposed to provide them. Wow this is horrible and not true. Those masks are provided for EVERYONE walking through those doors that dont have one! How petty and childish! Then don't get me started on the blinds that have been broken for 3 weeks. They dont have any kind of cleaning schedule and the rooms are not very clean ( up to my standards anyway) Then the toilet was broken for 2 weeks. Some of the staff is ok then some are rude and nasty. They are loud in the hallways and don't seem happy to work here. The plumbing is bad , there was a resident on the floor, and there were pills on the floor that a resident must have spit out. They are supposed to make sure the medication is swallowed. I would never reccomend this place and for sure wouldn't put any of my family in here.
We are committed to make sure our team delivers on our customer experience model. Please call our Consulate Cares line at 1-844-921-2273 so we can bring resolution to your experience. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: All the staffs are very nice and always be there when you need them… they’re all very responsible and very quick response as needed. I highly recommend this location for your old love ones to be… My father is getting better daily and will go home in next couple weeks…
We greatly appreciate your review! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're glad to care for your family.
Fantastic experience: Great work deserves Great recommendations!!!! Cary Rehab is heaven sent... I highly recommend sending your loved ones here. The Staff is Amazing!!!! My Mother came to this facility in Extremely, bad shape, not being able to get out of bed on her own. Within a short time, she is back to walking. She is treated with so much Love and kindness. I am amazed that so many kind and caring people can be in one Rehabilitation Center. I Thank God We were bought to this place!!!!
Thank you for your feedback. We've shared this with our care center family. As always, if there's anything we can do for you, please contact the Executive Director at the care center.
Fantastic experience: I'd much rather be home but if I had to choose I would be here. The residents and staff have been wonderful.
Thank you for letting us know how we're doing, Michele. It is because of feedback like yours that we can confirm we are heading in the right direction.
Negative experience: What a friggin dump. Don't take your loved ones here. My dad has a toilet that hasn't worked in a month. The food sucks and so does the care

Negative experience: Just got off the phone discussing my W2's and I had the nastiest person on the phone. The first person was ok, the second person they dispatched me to. I asked her a question she couldn't answer and my God how nasty of an attitude she carried.
Our family of caregivers is our most valuable asset. Have you been in touch with your direct supervisor about your concerns?
Negative experience: They are not answering the phone, calling several times in over a 30 minute time span late at night. The people that have answered in the past do not know what’s going on and actually told me when I visited to just to look in rooms to see if I could find a person I’m looking for. That is totally inappropriate! Can you say HIPPA? No patience with patients that are sick and struggling, impatient responses and rarely respond to a call bell.
Cynthia, we understand your frustration and apologize that getting in touch with your desired parties has been challenging. We've shared this with the team and they are aware of your need to speak with someone. Please email us at [email protected] with your contact information so that we can have someone call you directly. Thank you for letting us know.
Negative experience: My friend was a resident of Cary Health & Rehabilitation for almost three years beginning in 2020. She recently passed away. Over that span of time, Cary Rehab had 3 different directors, at least 2 nursing directors, 2 activity directors and COVID both within and without the facility more than once. For the benefit of those who might be considering placing a loved one here, I am sharing our experience. My friend fell multiple times while here: from bed, from her wheelchair. Each time, we were told she was fine. Mostly, she was examined by a doctor only when we insisted. She was moved from room to room. Her belongings repeatedly disappeared never to be seen again: dentures, eye glasses, clothing, shoes and even her wedding rings. We were routinely asked if we were sure we had not taken these things home. She was often dressed in clothing we had never seen, sometimes clothing bearing someone else’s name. We would replace missing clothing, labeling new items with her name, and still they would go missing. Despite continual complaints, this never changed. We were reimbursed for one item, a pair of shoes. We provided funds for her hair to be shampooed etc., a service they did offer, but it was seldom done. Care meetings were brief and sporadic and did not seem to have any impact on care. “Bed baths” seemed to be the standard. We were told staff can’t force anyone to have showers. On one occasion, when my friend had to be admitted to a hospital, the facility director at the time tried to refuse to accept her return to the facility, a practice known as “dumping.” As to sanitary conditions, I personally found dirty clothing and trash mixed together in a hamper in her room. To be sure, there were some responsible, compassionate caregivers here, but those people came and went. And there also was a lot of indifference. You may ask why we didn’t move her to another facility. Three reasons: 1) It was nigh impossible to move patients between facilities during COVID’s height. 2) Moving is very disruptive to people with dementia. 3) This facility was within driving distance of the person who loved her most. Everyone must make their own decisions about long-term patient care based on many factors: finances, beds available, proximity to keep an eye on things. This is simply our true experience at this place.
Our service promise is to listen to the needs of our residents and their families. As such, we've passed this on to the care center management team for awareness. Please call our Consulate Cares line at 1-844-921-2273 for follow-up. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: I have been hospitalized for 4 months with 2 more months to go before I have the long anticipated operation to close my stomach. I cannot describe my wound here because my original review did just that and my review was rejected because it was deemed too graphic for reviewers to read. On November 15th I had performed on me a routine Apendectomy that took a wrong turn and placed me into hospital care entirely dependant on the care of medical staff. Fed entirely through IV with no food or drink allowed is miserable enough for someone who enjoys cooking and eating, especially with my wife and 5 children. My pain has been unbearable, especially my raw, blistered abdominal skin inside the colostomy bag glued to my belly. So many days I cried and prayed to God to take me on home and relieve this torture I endure from every second of every minute and hour of every day of every month. No way to bring in an income to support my family dependant upon me working has added to my depression. If I could only die my family would be well fed and taken care of through the funds of my life insurance policy. With no hope, I turned to God and prayed through tears that soaked my bed. One prayer answered was finding a home in this facility, and my suffering was washed away. Washed away to the extent that I can rise out of bed in the morning and go for a walk though the halls, befriending other residents and sharing stories, getting a haircut at the on site salon, visiting the Apiary where Australian Finches Flutter about or borrow a book from the library and retreat to the courtyard to breathe in the fresh air and feel the warmth of the Sun on my skin after four long Winter months in a hospital bed. The long walks have strengthened my legs. I'm confident again and looking forward to grinding out this last 60 days of recovery to my surgery. The food is good I see and I mean SEE because I can't eat it being fed IV nutrition only. But if I'm ever in the Raleigh area once I get out of here and back home to Salisbury I'm going to stop in and devour everything I can that I see on their menu! I love this place. To me, this is home. It's clean. It's comfortable. Everyone actually cares, It's not just an act. My room reminds me of my stays at a Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn or Comfort Inn. My bed is the most comfortable thing I've ever slept on. There's almost enough storage for clothes space for an Army battalion and enough floor space for my old 6'8" Sasquatch self to do a cartwheel. Here, life is good. I can do this. I'm motivated because of my comfort here. To all these negative reviewers, know this: This is not Club (Med)iterranean. This is a healthcare facility designed to help individuals recover and heal, not be served like it's a Bed and Breakfast. These workers are skilled at what they do. They're good at it and they care. But they're also people. They have their own hopes and dreams. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Let yourself grieve. Express your feelings to a trusted family member, friend or health professional, rather than bottling them up... Take care of yourself. Eat healthily, exercise and develop good sleeping habits. ... Don't self-medicate.... Take your time. ... Say goodbye to hurtfulness... Let people help. ... Allow yourself to heal. ... You've got this.
Thank you for your kind words! We really appreciate that you took the time to share your experience with us, and we value your opinion Graham. As always, if there's anything we can do for you, please contact the Executive Director or Director of Nursing.
Fantastic experience: I was so blessed to be able to get a friend of mine in which I care for, into Cary Health and Rehabilitation. All of the staff seem to go the extra mile in making sure that my friend gets the best care and attention he need. I’m also thankful for the updates I get when I call the Nursing staff concerning my friend. I also appreciate so much the staff taking the time to help connect me to my loved one through video conferencing or just getting him a phone so I can connect that way. You guys are such a blessing to me and to my friend. Thank you!
Jimmy, thank you very much for letting us know about your experience with us regarding your friend's care. We appreciate your kind words. Our leadership and front line staff are constantly looking for ways to create a legendary patient and family experience.
Fantastic experience: My Mother in law was here for over a month. The place is beautiful and has so much potential. My husband and I myself were clueless and a bit scared where to find a good place. The first person who greeted was this pretty Energetic intelligent girl Maryam . She immediately made us at ease and told us straight out how things worked here and the rules. Maryam was straight forward and showed such kindness and EMPATHY regarding our concerns. We then met Lynn who was equally sweet and understanding. The front desk people were very nice and had a great sense of humor. CNA's were very very nice. Physiotherapy department was EXCELLENT. Concepto Mickey Moto( hope I spelt the name rt) was exceptionally sweet . The older guy who emptied the bins was very nice as well. My only concern was the Nursing staff . I think they need to be supervised and guided better.
Anissa, we really appreciate that you took the time to share details about your recent visit to our care center. We will be sharing your review with the team as a way to encourage them to continue to strive for excellence in customer service.
Fantastic experience: My mother has been a long time resident of Cary Health Rehab for almost 22 years now. We have seen this place at its worse and it’s best. Seen a lot of staff changes over the years some good and some not so good. However my mom was just out on Hospice Care but I have to tip my hat to several of the workers there that I know cares about patient care. I 1st of all Candace McCarthy is one exceptional individual that cares for the patient and their families I haven’t seen this before in this industry. She goes way beyond her call of duties and for that I’m very grateful that she is there, what a asset Cary Health has there, I hope that they know they have a jewel there. 2nd Is Ms Ann Johnson. I wold be lost without her as well, Ann has the way she can calm mama down when no one else can. Ann has been there just about or longer than mom. She is another rare jewel that Cary Health has and I will be forever grateful to her for her caring and support she has shown us. 3rd is Larry, the admin over the facility. Larry hasn’t been there long, but I believe what he says and he gets the job done. I can honestly say he has turned the place around in a way that it was when my mom 1st arrived. I know every place has had it ups and down especially with the Covid crisis etc but I’m honored that this place was kept safe for my mom as well as the other residences there to me that speaks volumes. Now that I’m having to go thru another transition with my mom I’m grateful that I have these people in my corner I will need them because I can’t do this alone.
Jamie, we are so grateful for your feedback. Your opinion is valuable to us and helps us shape everything that we do. By sharing it with us not only do you encourage our team; you give us the necessary information to constantly strive to try our best.
Fantastic experience: The Director of Admission, Maryam went over and beyond to help get a place for our aging dad. Ours was an interstate move with many moving parts. Maryam was always very prompt with communication and patiently guided us through the process. She was our beacon of hope!

Fantastic experience: Older facility but blessed with a very attentive staff and support. Management is open to working with other providers (our father is in a hospice program with its own support), and has been responsive to family questions and input. We also understand facility improvements are progressing, and additional staff being hired and trained. Very pleased by the support and attention provided to our family!

Negative experience: The place was clean, but the staff was overworked. The admissions person was not very helpful and was annoyed that we asked two or three questions about their 20-page registration form.
Fred, yhank you for sharing your experience with us. We strive to provide excellent customer service so we value your feedback as we'll use this to improve our services to our patients and families. If you'd like to speak with Executive Director further regarding your experience, please call our center. Thank you.
Negative experience: As a ex employee , Do not send your family members here, they will not be taken care of the way they should be. The cnas and nurses do not care an are there just for a pay check. There is never any supplies or safe working equipment to do your job correctly. No team work, your work load is extremely over whelming most days due to being so short staffed. Unprofessional rude staff constantly.
waneta, we thank you for sharing your experience with us regarding your time with our center. Our family of caregivers is our most valuable asset. We have shared your thoughts and concerns with upper management.
Positive experience: My mom was here for a brief time in the summer of 2020, a very interesting experience to deal with during a pandemic during a lockdown. Maryam Nasir was the eyes and ears for me since I couldn’t be there and was quite a comfort. She was also very good with communication and getting back to me. As far as the rest, I can’t really comment because I didn’t meet anyone else in person. Brittany was very good with the Zoom meetings and Martha was a good occupational therapist.
Alison, thank you for sharing this feedback with us. We are always striving to provide the best patient and family experience. If you have further details about this, please contact center at (919) 851-8000. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Thank you to everyone at Cary Health and Rehab for their help and support for my brother who arrived on Monday !!
Anita, thank you very much for letting us know about your experience with us regarding your brother's care. We are thrilled to know you and your family had a positive experience at the center.
Fantastic experience: The Leadership at Cary Healthcare is wonderful! Karen & Ms. D are always accessible & strive for excellence when taking care of their residents. They are great to work with!
Jennifer, we are so grateful for your feedback. Your opinion is valuable to us and helps us shape everything that we do. By sharing it with us not only do you encourage our team; you give us the necessary information to constantly strive to try our best.
Fantastic experience: This review is based on my mother in law only being there for 4 days, but the communication with Maryam has been so helpful and she goes the extra mile by making herself available any day or time through phone calls or messaging. She facilitated a speedy transfer of my mother in law from another facility, which was less than 2 weeks time from the first inquiry about openings to my mom in law moving in. Francois who I believe is a head nurse, was very personable and made us feel at peace for leaving Mom there during a time when we couldn't go inside due to the covid restrictions. I hope that this will continue to be a good experience for Mom !
Darlene, thank you for your feedback. We've shared this with our care center family. As always, if there's anything we can do for you, please contact our center at (919) 851-8000.
Positive experience: My mother was recently in for a hip fracture for rehab. This was during a very stressful time with Covid. No visitors were allowed at senior facilities. But all the staff did their best to keep communication open with me and my mother. Brittany was outstanding in activities to help provide scheduled Zoom chats and the nursing staff arranged for window visits. Karen, the director of nursing texted me at times to allay my fears. Tina in rehab kept me abreast as to my mother’s progress. Regina in the business office helped to explain about the Medicare & Medicaid process and even emailed me the paperwork with information. Maryum helped so much with the initial paperwork for admission. I was having difficulty with my computer, she even made a personal visit to my home to get things completed. I can say they all worked together and kept communication open. My mother seemed pleased under the difficult situation, she said she was treated very well. Many thanks to Cary Health & Rehab.
kathye, thank you for your kind words. Our leadership and front line staff are constantly looking for ways to create a legendary patient and family experience.
Fantastic experience: My mother-in-law was injured her neck cord and she has dementia, needs 24-hour care. My husband and I couldn’t give her the cares she needs. A friend of ours recommended Cary Health and Rehab. We talked to Maryam Nasir, the admission manager. She was always available by phone, text, and email every step of the way - especially after business hours and weekends. It only took Maryam a couple of days to finish the admissions process. My mother-in-law just moved in last Friday. Cary Health and Rehab team did a great job of taking care of her. We did two visits and very pleased about the care she is receiving. Cary Health and Rehab is a great place for us.
Frank Thank you for your kind words! We really appreciate that you took the time to share your experience with us, and we value your opinion. We are thrilled to know that your mother-in-law is having a positive experience at our center.
Negative experience: Please do not leave your loved one here! My son suffered two major strokes while living in FLA, we were told that is was very unlikely he would survive. He Did! Stayed strong through strokes, different trachs, feeding tubes and collapsed lungs! He knew who everyone was, could answer yes or no questions with different blink of his eyes. We even watched his toes move! We were able to get him transferred to NC to a Specialty Select Hospital where they had started physical, oral and speech therapy it was time for him to go to rehab. Well insurance picked Cary Rehab! My son was there a week and passed on Sept 28th 2020. On Friday the 25th I was contacted to bring clothing for therapy and personal hygiene items on my following Friday visit (first visit since transferred here). They spoke of his first real shower since this ordeal, his sitting on edge of bed for almost an hour (with total help) and that he is doing well. Monday morning they can not give a reason for his passing!!!!! Supposedly they checked on him at 7pm Sunday, he was alert, 11pm he was quietly sleeping, 5:30 am not responsive. What happened Can anyone explain this to us! My son, age 34, passed away in your facility after us being told he was doing fine and no one has any answers!
Nicole, we value your feedback and take your concerns seriously. We have shared this review with the Executive Director and Corporate management. Please write us at [email protected] with the best way to contact you so we can connect with you directly. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: My review is regarding Maryam Nasir in Community Relations, as my mother just moved in this weekend. She was an advocate for us from the absolute beginning. My brother lives in Williamsburg, VA and I live in Raleigh. Our work schedules, along with the unexpected transition to skilled-nursing , made it challenging to procure and send the necessary documents. Maryam was always available by phone, text and email every step of the way - especially after business hours. She was gracious and knowledgeable, as she helped us navigate the admissions process. Cary Health and Rehab is fortunate to have an All-Star if this caliber.
Becky, thank you for taking the time to write such a nice review. We will be sure to pass along the compliments to Maryam.
Positive experience: Well...I wasn't able to be there for my mom to get her settled when she first got moved to this facility because I was out of town. My mom was very unhappy in the beginning. There was a lack of communication and help for her for a few days. But I had Maryam's contact info and messaged her and within minutes and things were takin care of right away. She even offered to help fix anything day or night even after office hours. I couldn't have asked for better customer service. Thank you!
Jessie, we are so grateful for your feedback. Your opinion is valuable to us and helps us shape everything that we do. By sharing it with us not only do you encourage our team; you give us the necessary information to constantly strive to try our best.
Negative experience: Im currently a patient here for rehab. They are consistently short staffed, slow response times when called, took over a hour and a half to get ice water one evenig. I've been given shots without nurses using gloves and have to tell them to use them. One nurse I asked if she was going to use gloves said " Well do you want me too? " I said yes every time and realized she hadn't been using them ever! PT and OT is a joke. I cant learn to walk on my good leg with doing a few leg lifts each day for a few minutes. More vigorous PT OT is needed, was asked for, and get r brushed off. What a F'ing joke! This Sunday 6-23-19 all admins were here, CNA's and nurses were scrambling to clean up rooms. Lo and behold the State inspectors were here. BINGO AND KARMA! The inspector came to my room to ask me some questions about my care, etc. One hour and 3 pages of notes later, she had my grievances. They were to be reported to admin staff. Nothing heard from yet! I had no choice to come here due to my insurance, but I've called my insurance company to find me another rehab center. Although I've had a few good CNA's and nurses, overall most are derogatory, condescending, unwilling to help, give excuses for why they cant do something, and by time they explain the issue could have been resolved. DO NOT CHOOSE THIS FACILITY IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR REHAB OR HEALTHCARE. YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!
Michael, our service promise is to listen to the needs of our residents and their families. As such, we've passed this on to the care center management team for awareness. Please call our Consulate Cares line at 1-844-921-2273 for follow-up. Thank you.
Negative experience: I have never seen this place but would like to comment about the employment opportunity I know a young man that applied for wound care position has his lpn but needs RN or DON to review for a year. He applied at the cary location in person and online website. He was given the run around by the DON there for over three weeks being told I call you, I call you never given opportunity to dig with this person so for three weeks he continued to look for other employment but felt as if this was the right one he lives in apex has a son and didn’t want to go to far out of area. Well one last time he went there explained to the receptionist he would like to wait even if it was a few hours to see the DON feeling as if the gentleman was busy and never called the young lady told him I am sorry he said to tell you position filled just haven’t removed it from indeed. What a horrible way to treat someone needed employment to get this run around I hope the facility doesn’t treat the patients like this. And by the way I have worked for the same company for 36 years and this young man is my brother. I do hope someone with authority reads this since no one there is willing to give me the DON’ email at cary
Cindy, your feedback is very important to us as we use it to improve the service we provide. Please call our Consulate Cares line at 1-844-921-2273 for further follow up. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: New management team, combining over 50 years of experience in Skilled Nursing. Come see what we have to offer
Thank you, Ginger. We appreciate you and the service you provide to our family of residents and other caregivers.
Negative experience: This place is horrible. My dad was here and almost died. I can't believe the care they give here, he was forced to take meds he didn't want. They had him drugged up. DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES HERE. I'm ashamed he was even here, I wish I would've seen the teviews before.
Janet Patient and family satisfaction is our top priority, and we take all comments seriously. We invite you to contact us directly at [email protected] to provide us with your phone number so the Executive Director can follow up further to discuss your concerns. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: My review is aboUT Drew Buckingham who helped me with a problem at t his facility. He responded and solved it so quickly and I would work with him anytime. He is an outstanding person and rep for the place he works.
Beverly Kouzel thank you for your very honest and open feedback. We appreciate that you took the time to share your review with us and that you have a positive experience with us. If there's anything you need, please do not hesitate to speak with the Executive Director or Director of Nursing.
Fantastic experience: Have worked here since March of 2017, starting off my first job as a CNA, and got to know the people and facility. I love working here and it is getting better everyday now that we have all the new permanent managers set up. Our new DON knews her stuff and the new Administrator is always asking for ideas on how to improve himself and the facility for the residents and the employees. Both really seem to care about everyone living and working under that roof
Drew Buckingham your words of appreciation make a world of difference and set the tone for our employee's morale.
Fantastic experience: Having completed more than 15 admissions processes for relatives over the years, and as a former Social Work Supervisor, I have never had a better encounter with Admissions than at Cary Rehab. Scott Bonner is an exceptional individual. He immediately grasped the complexity of my family situation, was able to strategize how Cary Rehab could meet our needs, and visited my Dad that same day. He was up front about the bad reviews of the past when I questioned him about that. He was able to reassure me that the Medicare rating had progressed from a 1 to a 3 in a very short time. His optimistic perspective was reinforced by the private geriatric care manager I hired to help with our family. Their experiences with Cary Rehab, Scott and Social Work Staff had been very good, and Cary had been the first recommendation for my Dad. We are still evaluating options for our family and as a part of that process I have checked with my parents' friends. Quite a few have been at Cary Rehab and have had good experiences there. So that has also been reassuring. Although our personal plans are still in flux, I wanted to go "on the record" to thank Scott for doing such a great job for us at a very challenging time.
Deborah Thomassen thank you for your kind words. Our leadership and frontline staff are constantly looking for ways to create a legendary patient and family experience.
Fantastic experience: We had a family member there for approximately 6 weeks. The staff was great. They were kind and patient with us. If we needed help they were there, if we needed an update they were there, if we had questions they were there. They were a pleasure to deal with.
Jill Kramer Thank you for your kind words! We really appreciate that you took the time to share your experience with us, and we value your opinion. This has been shared with the entire care center family.
Negative experience: They killed my dad.
Tonya H We take all comments seriously and want to speak with you directly about your father's care. Please call our Consulate Cares line at 1-844-921-2273. This has been brought to our corporate management team for follow-up.
Negative experience: This place is disgusting and they literally let people pee themselves and then come and clean there sheets, half the time not bringing back a blanket. The food is disgusting and not suitable for a peron that needs to recover! Some of the food is fish sticks, a hotdog, a cheap hamburger, a pimento cheese sandwhich, or something im not exactly sure what is but looks like a low quality McRib. I would highly recommend not to take anyone here.
Jebediah Edwards We take your feedback seriously as patient and family satisfaction is always our top priority. This is being looked into and we invite you to call our Consulate Cares line at 1-844-921-2273 for follow-up and to discuss this directly with you. Thank you.
Negative experience: My grandmother was in this facility and was not taken care of well. I do not suggest this facility! My grandmother passed away. I do not recommend this facility for long term care based upon my experience! I had similar instances happen as mentioned by other reviewers with my grandmother! She fell from the bed, and she got an infection while in the care of this facility and ultimately passed. Upon arrival at the facility for a visit my grandmothers hygiene was completely unacceptable! She was left in her room regularly with little to no interaction. Please don’t regret your decision!
Kirsten A Patient and family satisfaction is our top priority, and as such, we are committed to make sure our team delivers on our customer experience model. Please speak with the Executive Director about this by calling 919-851-8000 so we can bring resolution to your experience in our care center. Thank you.
Negative experience: They use up your insurance and then send you home sicker than when you went in. This place is a big ripoff with a very bad reputation.
Hi Gerhard,Thank you for your feedback; your concerns are a priority to us and we'd like to discuss them further with you. Please call the Executive Director at this care center directly at 919-851-8000 so we can address the experience you had at our care center. Thank you.
Negative experience: My grandmother had total knee replacement done and needed to stay at a rehabilitation facility for PT before she could be able to function properly at home. She is 76 years old, so knee replacement is a big surgery for someone her age. She was transferred here unfortunately. When she arrived by ambulance, there was no one there to take her inside, greet her, or anything. The EMTs stayed with her for 20 minutes until someone came outside IN THE COLD to come get her. Then her room was not even ready. She wanted a private room and was first put in a semi-private room. They finally got it ready two hours later after speaking with the director of the facility. Now physical therapy and the doctor were supposed to come see her the next morning because you think the obvious thing for a person after knee surgery would be to start PT right away, correct? not here you don't! They didn't come that friday as promised, then they said they would come saturday, didn't show up again, same for sunday morning. Finally her nurses got the director on the phone and FORCED physical therapy to come see her sunday afternoon. This place also told her she couldn't put ice on her swollen, red, hot knee until PT came to evaluate her. She also wasn't allowed to have handle bars on the side of her bed to help her get up until they came either. This is laughable, right? Not to mention the countless times we had to hound the nurses for her pain meds. They even forgot to give her the meds for her breast cancer as well the first night even after telling them about it constantly. The environment was just so depressing as well. When you walk in the visitors lobby, its really not bad looking. Then turn the corner to the rooms, smells like old diapers, rotten food, etc. No pictures on the walls, the rooms are so small and out-dated/dirty. The food was absolutely disgusting. I would have rather ate dog food, luckily my grandmother brought snacks from home with a cooler to keep them cold so she didn't starve. Don't expect any security here either. Twice we had random patients just wheel themselves into my grandmothers room and just start talking to her. My mom had to wheel them out of the room herself. Don't get me wrong, the majority of the nurses/aides were very sweet and helped when they could. I blame this down to whomever is in charge of this place for having a short-staffed facility not to mention so many violations of HIPAA and OSHA, I lost count after awhile. Charts laying out unattended, food everywhere, etc. Needless to say, we transferred my grandmother out of there today (monday) after a terrible weekend there. It would have been sooner if we could. Now she's getting treated like a queen at Universal Healthcare in Fuquay-Varina which looks like the Ritz compared to this dump. I would rate this place with negative stars if I could. If you care anything about your loved ones DONT TAKE THEM HERE!
