Negative experience: Due to staff favoritism they overlook a lot of resident abuse. How does a patient who hasn’t been out of bed in 2 years have black eyes, how can you put food in front of a patient whose suffering from contraction who cannot feed themselves, and just close the curtain on them to smell their food for hours and stare at it with no assistance to eat. If you report the abuse and neglect they will make you the problem. I have prayed many days and nights over those residents. The nurses overlook a lot to avoid paperwork, the CNAs dismiss it for whatever reason. The scheduler has a huge lack of professionalism and lack of empathy for the employees and they switch HRs yearly. Avoid this facility for employment and for your loved ones.

Negative experience: Don’t send your family there, mom had cancer found in her room unconscious who knows how long she was like that for, they took her phone and locked in into a car, they didn’t try to work with her, smells horrible

Fantastic experience: Hickory Ridge was very nice and caring. Alley did a wonderful job giving me a shower and giving me my meals. All the nurses were very nice especially Suzie, Cindy, and Ruth. Thank you for your wonderful work and taking care of me to make sure things were getting done. I made a lot of new friends especially Bessie The housekeeper, Erin, Frank the Therapists. Marla is my best friend and Jessieah. Thank You again for everything. You get a five star.

Negative experience: It saddens me to have to post and review a facility that should be considered a home comfort rehab and of course care. However, that is not what I received when I entered the doors of this facility in February. While my loved one was there. The care and the upkeep of that facility was almost deplorable. Just the walk in entrance was up a little solace. The once you pass through those hallways, it made your heart ache to know that the only reason my loved one that's okay. Little care and attention He got it was because we were there. Finally. Was unheard of to the point? Authorities were called to check-in on this center to see people unclothed, begging for someone to compare for them to be fed. The beds were on the floor the smell the stench through the hallways, the corridors, the nurse is chatting. Around the entrance, just to see who was coming through the door to scatter. If it was the right person to be told that your loved one had to be changed. And if you didn't have anyone there, attentive to your loved ones in need, they would sit in the poop in the stench for hours. The short time I was there, I actually had a couple of residents. Asked me to help them because the nurses are 10 days. We're not responsive to the rings and their needs again. A report was made to Akron, and they came out and found multiple violations along with A viral infection going throughout the rehab center. My hope is that if you should look into the center, do your homework before you enter, I think the housing of pets. It was better. My hope is that they've gotten it together. I have no idea my loved one is no longer there. Beware.

Negative experience: They treated my father in law like he didn’t matter. So concerned about money! Call bells unanswered for extended periods of time. Staff actually yelling at patients! Where is the patient dignity? I won’t be using this facility again!

Negative experience: If you love your family members do not take them here. My father did not get the proper care he needed. My sister and i had to check his legs and put compression socks on him. they rarely changed his clothes for him. We had to do that ourselves when we visited even though he’d have food all over his shirts. he’d complain about feeling dirty and not being properly cleaned. i had to ask multiple times for him to be changed or put on a bed pan on MULTIPLE occasions. He was leaking fluid and nearly every time i visited he was soaking wet. i understand to an extent they can’t do much but he was extremely uncomfortable and pulling his sheets off of himself. I asked for his sheets to be changed and visited for over an hour and a half and in that time no one answered the call light. i even went to the nurses station where all the nurses were on their phones and asked for help. And the night aide stopped by to say hello and i told her we needed sheets and i was told she’d get to it when she could.(KEEP IN MIND HALF THE TIME THEY WERE ON THEIR PHONES OR JUST CHATTING WITH EACHOTHER) Finally a nurse arrived to give him his meds for the night and turned off the call light. and i had to tell her to come back in because the light was on for a reason! Unfortunately i had to leave and his sheets still hadn’t been changed. One of the other night aides had her airpods in and was on a phone call when she came in to ask what my father needed when he hit his call light. that is just some of many bad experiences with this facility. Thankfully my father had people visiting daily(myself and my siblings) and my sister took initiative to get him out of there and back to her home where he’s getting the care he needs. I highly recommend to NEVER take a loved one here.

Negative experience: I will just make a list 1.) Minimal physical therapy. They will make excuses and blame the patient when you ask them about it. 2.) Weight bearing status read wrong so they didnt follow his doctors orders for 2 weeks. 2 WEEKS! 3.) Didnt set up transport for his appointment despite us asking 3 times about it the days and week prior 4.) Wanted a 1k minimum deposit for his coinsurance (have never had this asked of at other facilities, ie Altercare. We have always been billed after and set up a payment plan) 5.) They only care about money. I was asked by 4 seperate employees about money. Medicare was paying so there is no reason to be so concerned about it on day 0 or even day 14. Then trying to make me feel pressured to wipe his accounts and let medicaid take over his social security for a short term stay. BS. 6.) Call lights ignored for over an hour at times (not an exaggeration) 7.) All nursing homes smell but this one has to be #1. 8.) Some nurses yell at residents for literally just asking for water. I wish i was kidding but we witnessed it. I could go on. But it would be a waste of my time and im too busy taking care of my dad while his call light is ignored.

Negative experience: ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Wish I could leave 0 stars.. or -100. GO TO PHOENIX OF FAIRLAWN INSTEAD, THEY ARE A MILLION TIMES BETTER. I don't want anyone else to have suffer being put in Hickory Ridge, please don't let the people you care about stay here. Hickory Ridge experience was awful. Grandmother with dementia was here after a fall & a bad med reaction. She could hardly move around or remember what was going on. Call button was never within reach, it took forever for anyone to respond to it. They would tell us she was using the bathroom fine on her own but nearly every day we'd go in & find her laying there soaking wet with piss. Shared bathroom was never clean, we cleaned it many times ourselves, stuff was left blocking sink preventing access. Staff couldn't even get her sitting up & awake to eat. Either she'd be left to sleep through meals & the food taken away untouched without her even ever knowing it was there (SHE HAS DIABETES SHE CANT NOT EAT!) or be left trying to eat things off the high tray while laying down fully flat unable to get herself up or reach anything. Her only entertainment was TV with remote never worked & she was left laying there with nothing to do everyday. We told everyone we could she needed help, that she doens't remember to ask for things or where she is at. Many other patients we seen didn't look any better off. Watched one lady struggling to get into the cafeteria for over 10 min, looking filthy with stuff all over her, as 5 people watched & didn't help. A month there (far too long but thanksgiving slowed down finding another place & completing the transfer.. which hickory ridge resisted & delayed.. (idk why, they clearly did not want to care for her, insurance $ I guess...)) & my grandmother just got worse off instead of better every day. No one communicated with us unless pestered for a long time & forced to tell us things, found out 2 weeks after she got it that she had an infection & no one bothered to update us, told us oh she's doing well every time when we went in when she clearly wasn't.... Staff always seemed annoyed at the most basic requests like just wanting toilet paper for the bathroom that had been empty for ages. They lost some of her clothing. They couldn't ever even open a window blind in the day to let her get some light other then the dim overhead lamp. The place just feels like some depressing mix of a very old hospital & a prison cell. This wasn't even half of the problems we had with this place. I just don't have 3 hours to sit here & detail everything. Moving her out of there as soon as possible was even difficult because the staff further resisted us doing so, not sending transfer paper work along & avoiding it. I hate this place & people there so much for the state she was in while in their care. DO NOT TAKE A CHANCE ON THIS PLACE AT ALL. You WILL regret it. Phoenix of Fairlawn was the place we moved her too. It was on the complete opposite range of the spectrum. Everything there was great. We had ZERO problems with Phoenix. People there actually cared. Everything was clean, the staff were very attentive to all her needs & had her up & dressed & clean & dry every day, they made sure she ate, tracked her meds better, got her blood sugar finally under control, & we seen significant improvements in her state very fast. They updated us every step of the way, checked in on her frequently, the whole building was kept in good shape, with an atmosphere of a place people would actually CHOOSE to live instead of someplace to get stuck & die in like Hickory. At Phoenix we had the whole team of people coming to talk to us just in the first day or two giving us info, evaluating her, putting together a plan to get her home & healthy again. At hickory we got almost no communication, no plan to get her better no visible effort, none of what we got at Phoenix. Once we got her moved to Phoenix she stopped declining & started actually improving & she is now doing well. Had we not moved her out of Hickory I'm sure she'd be still there & just about lost for good by now.

Negative experience: One star. The staff members do not take good care of their patients. The building does not have a pleasant odor or appliances. My mother was here for physical therapy (she required help walking due to health difficulties), but she received no therapy at all. They're understaffed, and they've failed my mother. They overdosed her with unnecessary drugs. They didn't check in on her as much as they should have, despite their assurances. They refused to change my mother when it was necessary and became enraged when she asked them for assistance. They arrived 30+ minutes after she pressed the help button. They also disrespected other patients. Their bad parenting led to my mother’s passing. When my grandfather sought to see her medical records, they refused, despite the fact that it is a legal necessity. They knew they had done wrong, which is why they declined. One staff person also took my mother's phone and locked it in her car (after my mother was rushed to the emergency room), claiming she didn't want anyone to'steal it'—the staff member then returned my mother's phone with a full screen and newly opened tabs. They are not authorized to do that. I found that suspicious because my mother didn't have the power to lift her phone at the time, let alone read, because her vision was impaired from the excessive amounts of meds they gave her. Also, staff members aren’t allowed to do that— it’s only understandable if they lock it up at the front desk. When my mother was brought to the hospital from this location (she was unresponsive), they told me and my family that they didn't even realize she was gone. They admitted it right there, knowing they don't check on their patients when needed/frequently. People who give this a 5 star or positive rating are not telling the truth. This place also charged my mother's insurance long after she died. They merely want money. Do not bring your family members here believing it will be a safe environment for them. I do not suggest it.

Fantastic experience: My father has advanced dementia. So far he has only been here a couple of weeks, but I can already tell they are more equipped to handle his needs than normal memory care elsewhere. The nurses and staff actually seem to understand what dementia patients need and how to handle them. My father wasn't eating so they worked through several different approaches until one worked. He lost 30 lbs at the geriatric psych facility he was put in when he was kicked out of memory care. Yes places can kick you LO out for dementia outbursts. Time will tell, but I already feel better about his care than I ever did before.

Negative experience: This place is a joke I removed my loved one after a 2 month stay here the day staff was ok but the night staff was terrible my loved one was frighten at night I didn't care for alot of the things I saw and heard they weren't very clean and the patient in lock down wonder halls and in to outhers rooms unnoticed and perform inapropiate things I actually had to bring a matter to there attention several times I pushed the call button and it took several min for a response several times I had to tell them my loved ones diet and the food was cold hard and awful I tasted it myself yuck they rush you out when visiting hours are over even end of days care patients the walk to rooms are long and the entrance that should be open to the one wing is closed don't get me wrong some staff were awesome (day shift )and really treated patient like their own and not prisoners they are old and young sick and need tlc not like they are in prison the fishtank is filthy and smells I went out the supposed security door by accident it says hold down 15 seconds alarm will go off then door will open and it did I had plenty of time to just walk out I was greeted about 4 min after alarm went off by a lady saying I can't go out that door but I was already out it lol please don't let your love ones go here and I didn't get my loved ones laundry washed not one time there as told would be done by their service not much activities as it says at least not with patients saw more staff activities then patients

Positive experience: THE GOOD,.. the staff in general were very good, and mostly friendly. some people there were exceptional in caring for people, esp one older staff lady that seemed gruff, but was the most compassionate maybe of them all. nurses were great, one of which I keep in contact to this day on facebook. place is nicely kept. I was well taken care of. ------THE BAD---- their heating/cooling system seriously sucks,.. it is one system for the whole building, not room to room. I would be freezing to death in the middle of summer under 3 blankets because the closer the rooms were to the air cond, would be all the more colder so that the cold being piped out would keep the far end of the building cold. it was soo bad I had a friend stand on a chair and tape the room vent for the AC shut, I could not take it.. it has been 6 years ago so since then they might have corrected it. the only other gripe I have is that even the "good" staff became insensitive to me in GREAT pain. partly because I think they were run ragged from all the people's constant needs. but I think they just got soo used to dealing with people in pain, they became callas to it, or did not understand or believe the level of pain I was in,.. I still give them a 4 star, and would use them again,

Negative experience: They're under staffed and some nurses are very rude to their patients. Others are rude with family members when they call to check in and make sure their loved one is okay and being taken care of. There's no excuse to leave someone wet and cold..... there's also no reason someone's dinner should be TWO HOURS late. The therapy staff is wonderful though. They're the best part of the place.

Fantastic experience: I don't understand the poor reviews. My mom is here, and is very well cared for. Mom is mid-late stage Alzheimers, wheelchair/bed bound. Sponge bath every morning and evening, followed by fresh clothes/ pajamas. Two showers per week. Fresh bedding every day. Great activities, great one on one time. All nurses, aides, and staff are friendly and caring. Sometimes a bit slow, but they're understaffed (like everyone else). Food is good. Place is older, but they clean constantly. This is mom's 4th place, and by far, the best. Davette, Kathy, Mary, and Pi are all awesome! I wish I could remember the others' names, but I haven't met anyone who wasn't kind and caring.

Positive experience: As a resident for 6 months in 2000 was a pleasant stay and received good care and all else was very comfortable..except for strict covid restrictions which started shortly before my discharge? Home aftercare and followup was great too and still is 2 years later. I don't think they're ever going to stop taking care of me

Fantastic experience: I have worked here almost 3 months and it has been a very positive experience for me. I have been in LTC over 30 years and I have worked for great and not so great places. I was immediately welcomed by this great team and feel like I’ve been here for years. I can’t say enough about the support and leadership of the administrative team and my corporate consultants. Karen addresses issues immediately and with honesty and supports her staff 100%. Susan the DON is so knowledgeable and encouraging. I’ve learned so much from her. She is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. She appreciates her staff and shows it on a daily basis. I’m also really impressed with the STNA’s and nurses on the floor. They answer my questions and help me with assessments. The STNA’s really take pride in their work and are really friendly. They had a carnival for the residents recently and I was so impressed with how the whole team came together to make it a really fun day for the residents. Therapy department is fantastic. This place cares about their residents!! Looking forward to many great years with this incredible team!

Negative experience: My mom has not even been here a week and has $28 stolen out of her purse and a whole basket of clothes go missing. Nobody has really taken any action to get her money back or her clothes. Another guy I talked to said his wife had $100 go missing and they never did anything about it. It's horrible that nursing homes can get away with anything they want.

Negative experience: After 9 years of employment with Hickory Ridge, I resigned from my position in nursing because of the following longstanding unresolved issues. It is unacceptable for administration to use call offs as an excuse to under-staff the halls. Under a former administration, the nursing schedule was always over-staffed to allow for call offs. In the event there were no call offs, staff members were able to go home according to seniority, per the union, and according to a rotation list, per the facility. Each hall was expected to have one nurse and two stnas at all times on day and afternoon shift. Horrible place now. Always shortstaffed. Filthy unsanitary living conditions for the residents. Sticky bathroom floors. Vicious bugs appearing out of no where and everywhere, bitting and leaving welts. No heat to keep the laundry staff warm during the freezing cold winter months. If in the winter you need to walk to laundry for something, you can literally see your breath in the laundry room. Communication with upper and lower management is deceitful...at best. NO accountability. Administration fosters a hostile free-for-all work environment. A fickle, brown-nosing, backstabbing work culture. Don't expect to find transparency here anymore. Administration is not professionally equipped to attract, manage, and retain good employees. The facility's interpersonal conflicts reflect upper management's divisiveness. It trickles down throughout the lower ranks of management linking the rotten apples at the very bottom of the chain to administration's deplorable work ethics. On the bright side, most employees are friendly. Some are lazy. You'll find a handful of good stnas. Some good nurses. A kind and knowledgable MDS nurse. Few team players. Too many bad apples. Two of the most efficient laundry aids ever. Awesome cooks. The best cooks. Friendly kitchen staff. A caring efficient dietary manager. A decent rehab department with some of the best trained 'head up the rear end' attitudes the building will ever see. Total care and extensive care Residents fall between the cracks. Little if any thought is given to Resident placement on the circle halls. Two or three halls will have mostly assisted and extensive care Residents with a couple total care Residents, while one hall in particular will always have several alarm/fall risk Residents, a number of total care Residents, extensive care Residents, and Residents who are confused and need one-on-one attention. As well as too many behaviors placed on one hall, this hall also houses more Residents than each of the other three halls. These factors contribute to unsafe conditions for both Residents and nursing staff. This hall requires two stnas and one nurse on this hall alone, and at all times. It is not ok that this hall in particular reeks of urine, feces, and trash cans. It is not ok for Residents to have their call lights on for long periods of time. It is not ok to find total care Residents lying in soaking wet soiled beds not having been changed once from a previous 12 hour shift. It is not ok that when reported these incidents are overlooked. Continuity in care equals high quality care. Continuity in care is defined when administration takes full responsibility for maintaining the halls by adequately staffing all halls according to PT needs on each hall. If one or two halls require additional nursing staff, it is administration's responsibility to see that the DON schedules accordingly. Ohio once had an stna to PT ratio. In Ohio the delivery of good nursing care is now determined by each facility. Ohio does include PT acuity, behaviors, and fall risks as markers for determining an appropriate ratio. It is unconscionable for administration to dismiss these markers. There is no excuse to under-staff the building and particular halls just because the state no longer enforces a specific care ratio. All of these things are NOT OK. Yet, day in and day out these things, which are unacceptable, are accepted at this facility.

Fantastic experience: I have worked at Hickory Ridge for 4 years. It is so nice to see good people caring for good people. I feel part of a real team, with team members that ask "what can I do" before I even have to ask. I see so many smiles throughout every day, from residents and staff. Makes each day that much more special.

Fantastic experience: This place is really structured. It was very surprising to me in the sense that everyone here takes pride in their job and has pleasant personalities. The people that work here have great work ethics and truly care about me as a person and how I am doing. Employees have become family to me here asking “How are you” on a daily basis. The food here I would give an 8/10. I usually am a picky eater and I almost always clean my plate. I just got a full knee replacement on November 29th and I’ve been walking with my walker since December 24th. I’m getting stronger every day because the physical therapy staff here push me to my full potential. If you’re looking for a place that really works pushes you as far as recovery and a fun place to do it. This is the place. They have excellent therapists. There is a pool table, bingo, dances, and karaoke. It’s a home away from home! They also allow smoking which is a plus.

Negative experience: This place should be closed down. Alarms are always going off and staff takes their time responding to residents. Directors and administrator's lie to the residents and take advantage of them as well. I have seen urine on the hallway floors and the whole facility smells like urine. Residents often catch infections due to unsanitary conditions. If I could have given them 0 stars I would have. Please if you care about your love ones DO NOT SEND THEM HERE.
