Fantastic experience: Late in October 2024, I suffered a ruptured disc in my lower back that put me in the hospital for several days. My path back to any kind of normal life heavily leaned on the care I received from my physical therapists at Kepros. Jess Williams and Austin Buchholz worked with me multiple times a week to repair my body. I worked with this team for months and months. Our combined overall vision, and their expertise pulled me through and legitimately may have saved my life in several ways. When I returned to my home after the hospital stay, I faced an unclear and challenging road to recovery. My back injury left my right leg nearly all but paralyzed. I had a drop foot. I could only walk under the aid of a walker. I couldn't stand or sit up right in a chair for longer than a few minutes. I couldn't work. I was left unable to drive. I couldn't get in and out of the shower. I couldn't walk up and down the stairs using my right leg. In the weeks after my injury I was bedridden, and could only manage about 250 steps per day. I'm a husband and a father of two young boys, this wasn't how I had envisioned my life at only 39 years old. I was told by two surgeons, one at Mercy in CR, and one at the University of Iowa that I,"Probably needed surgery." But with some added health risks, neither of them were motivated to do the surgery on me themselves. I was left confused and discouraged. I returned to my physical therapy team and told them, If I can avoid surgery, let's just PT the heck out of this thing and see what we can achieve. Jess and Austin stepped up to the challenge where I felt some of the doctors I had seen shied away. We worked on building my core and lower back strength. We set goals along the way, and with time, I started to hit them. I shed the walker after about 8 weeks. Around New Years, my steps creeped up from a few hundred to a few thousand per day. I was able to drive again after a few months. I finally had the strength to walk up and down stairs with both legs in early spring. I was up to 5,000 steps per day and back at work. Last month I golfed, something I was unsure I'd ever do again. The last 60+ days in a row I have returned to fitness through long walks, notching 10k steps and at least 5 miles every, single, day. As I had mentioned, there was one setback during this process where the action of this team may have saved my life. I had strained some muscles severely in my left leg(likely due to overcompensation since my right leg was paralyzed.) I came into PT one day and my leg was swollen. Jess said we needed to watch it closely, that could be an indicator of a blood clot. A few days later I came into PT again and my leg and foot were still swollen. Austin consulted with another physical therapist, and then made the extra effort to schedule me a doctor's appointment ASAP by putting the call in himself. Sure enough I had two large blood clots in my leg. Had they gone undiagnosed, I could have had a pulmonary embolism. Jess and Austin's instincts on the matter got me the help I needed that prevented serious further injury. Everyone I came in contact with at Kepros was polite and friendly, including all the folks at the front desk that welcomed me by name whenever I arrived. I have and will continue to recommend people go to kepros for their physical therapy needs. Jess and Austin helped me get my life back, and avoid surgery altogether. Thanks for everything. -Kyle

Fantastic experience: I had the best experience the past few months working with Carly and Jess. Even though my issue was chronic, they never gave up on finding me answers and encouraging me to keep going with my recovery. They were willing to dig deeper, search for other answers that were "outside the box" and were patient with me every step of the way. The facility is clean, professional, and well-suited for recovery and enhancing your performance, no matter where you start from.

Fantastic experience: I have been extremely impressed with Carly Langhurst’s expertise and dedication in resolving the pain I was experiencing with my hip/glute med. My situation was a little complicated because I had several things going on at once. Without Carly’s determination in dissecting the issues, I don’t know if we would have gotten to the bottom of the issue. Initially, I was only going to do the PT as a step towards having surgery but it wasn’t long and I knew, thanks to Carly, I would not need to have surgery!! I was confident we could get through it with PT!! One of the surgeons I was working with said, “It sounds like you have a really smart physical therapist!!”. I couldn’t agree more and I just wanted to let you know what a gem you have on your hands!

Fantastic experience: I suffered an injury when on vacation and reached out to get support and a referral with what to do next. Ted and the team were incredibly responsive, helpful and caring! It was so nice to have amazing and experienced humans on my side from the beginning of this process and on road to recovery. The Kepros team is the best of the best! I would highly recommend! One year out from surgery - I would give more stars if I could! The team approach Kepros takes in their treatment has been phenomenal. My two therapists were the ideal balance - providing encouragement and support and therapeutic treatment when needed, and challenging and pushing me through plateaus when needed. This really helped keep not only my body, but my heart and mind continuing to improve through the process. Injuries like this are a whole body experience. The most important part of my journey has been the warm, kind, caring, welcome I receive each time I come alongside the best-in-class care. The culture of care paired with professionalism is second to none!

Positive experience: Quality of care is good, up front information leaves a lot to be desired. Make sure you tell them whether or not your deductible is met. I received information where they assumed my deductible was already met, and the bill was 4x what they told me it would be.

Fantastic experience: I had several sessions with Carly to help with some neck pain I was having. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! I reallty liked the convenient appointment times and a great location close to downtown. I couldn’t recommend more!

Fantastic experience: The Kepros Physical Therapy Center in Cedar Rapids is an amazing place! It starts with the staff at the front desk and ends with the PT staff doing the evaluations and designing individual plans for their clients. The PT staff are professional and extremely competent. It’s hard to imagine a better PT experience.

Fantastic experience: This has been one of the hardest years of my life, but overcoming my fear that physical therapy was going to injure me again and working with Mr. Kepros & Jesse has given me a glimmer of hope. It would probably sound strange that they have helped me get back to my writing & art (instead of a sport), but it's true. Hard to believe that years ago, I was a college writing & English professor, winning awards and grants for my creative nonfiction and showing my Intermedia work in exhibitions across the country, when all the problems of (at that time, undiagnosed) Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Chiari-Syringomyelia, and assorted other conditions caught up to me. Increasing pain, injuries, and neurological symptoms caused me to first lose my teaching career (academia is not great at accommodating this sort of thing) and, later, to put my writing & art mostly on the back burner. At one point, I had to drop out of an Intermedia PHD before it even began. I came here after injuring myself once again following a surgery. I didn’t have high expectations to be honest. My experiences with the medical system and physical therapy have been … traumatizing at best. I didn’t ever expect to have my gait problems addressed, or the dizziness & vertigo from oscillopsia, or my fear of certain movements, or even the problems plaguing my hands & wrists. I didn’t expect a program so tailored to me — not just my conditions, but to how I am experiencing those conditions and my goals. Actually, I walked in thinking I should try ASTYM but Mr. Kepros steered me a better direction. Alas, insurance is evil about chronic conditions and PT (do not get me started), so I don’t know how far I will go, but it’s been amazing to come this far in such a short period of time. I am even thinking of going back to the body farm where I got certified in forensic facial reconstruction years ago, this time for my master certification — lots of uneven ground at that forensic anthropology facility, terrain I would not have thought possible to traverse with my rollator, but maybe now with my cane. Thanks so much, Kepros — everyone there is so kind and compassionate, and I honestly feel they are angels on this earth for people in chronic pain.

Fantastic experience: My son was in a car accident last year, and injured his lower back and was in pain on a daily basis. After several doctor appointments with physicians, chiropractors and OTHER physical therapists, my son was having no relief from his pain. Finally, we were referred to Dr. Ted Kepros. He did a full evaluation of my son, and spent time and attention to his condition. Ted educated him on how the body responds and reacts to injury. He showed him how to strengthen and stretch his back with several different exercises and techniques My son has relief now, all thanks to Dr. Ted Kepros. I refer all my family, friends and clients to him. They all tell me how happy they are with their results after their visits at Kepros Physical Therapy. He is an expert in his field!!! Barb McDonald

Fantastic experience: Recovery from fractured vertebra was slow and painful and friend suggested physical therapy after a great experience with these folks. In 2 months I've gone from being in pain walking, standing, sitting, and sleeping propped up by pillows on couch to being able to move with very little pain, able to sit for several hours pain free, and able to sleep in a bed again. Becky Barcliff has been wonderful, helping me strengthen my core while protecting my healing spine. I can't say enough about the difference she has made in my quality of life.

Fantastic experience: Great place to go for real fast relief! Tried somewhere else first and wasn't happy with lack of results and now won't go anywhere else! Thanks for raising the bar with your great therapist!

Fantastic experience: Very clean, extremely nice facility! You're instructed to bring a pair of slippers separate from shoes that you would normally wear outside to help keep the facility clean, I think it's wonderful. I have been doing PT for headaches, I feel very relaxed and comfortable with my physical therapist and I'm very hopeful that this helps with my chronic headaches! If it doesn't, at the very least it feels good to do some physical therapy and I feel better after each session.

Negative experience: My doctor suggested physical therapy following a birth injury. The injury was mis-diagnosed and incorrectly treated at Kepros. I then went to PCI and had to work to reverse the impact of the exercises recommended by Kepros. Further, without informing me, and after I'd paid my copay/deductible ahead of time, Kepros didn't charge my insurance correctly and proceeded to submit my bill for the charges beyond my copay/deductible to a creditor. The creditor never reached out to me, so I discovered this in a credit check four years later.

Fantastic experience: I started PT with a different facility after a total knee replacement and after a couple appointment with the other facility I was not happy with them overall. I ended up at Kepros after a doctor referral and I'm so glad I switched facilities. There is no comparison to the quality of care for reaching your goals after surgery and the outstanding care from the kepros staff. Everyone was very friendly, encouraging and understanding. They took the time needed to get me where I needed to be. I would and will recommend them to everyone!

Fantastic experience: I've gone to Kepros over the years for multiple issues (low back, neck, tailbone after a fall) and they are superb. You alternate between 2 PTs - and that allows you to benefit from each of their strengths and approaches. They are super smart about figuring out the root of the problem and help you get to health (as long as you do the home exercises assigned!). I have worked most with Carla and Abby and they are both exceptional. The whole vibe of the place is positivity and wellness. Their front office team are also top notch and make everything seamless. They serve all ages - I took my 104 year old friend there and he also found 100% relief from pain that was keeping him from sleeping. I can't say enough good things about Kepros.

Fantastic experience: Kepros in downtown CR is terrific. I feel really comfortable being there, the staff are terrific, and they've patiently and expertly gotten me back from multiple injuries to where I want to be. They're very transparent and educational throughout the process, and I always leave feeling smarter and better prepared to get back to and stay in good health.

Fantastic experience: I have worked with the Kepros team on and off for the past two years. I find them to be extremely knowledgeable, professional and patient focused. Everyone who works there is friendly, efficient and very caring. Of all the service providers I come in contact with, Kepros is at the top. They work hard to find the right solution and have helped me immensely!

Fantastic experience: We took our newborn to Dr.Ted after our pediatrician noticed a head turning weakness. The staff at Kepros is extremely welcoming. Everyone we ran into gave us a big smile. Dr. Ted is unbelievable thorough and knowledgeable. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Negative experience: Spent close to $1,000 in 2 months for treatment for a bulging disc in my lower back. After 2 months I had no improvement. My back hurt just as much as when I first walked in there. You can find similar stretches and exercises on youtube for free. I was very disappointed with this place and will never seek treatment there again.

Fantastic experience: I've been going to Kepros for the past couple of weeks to work on some tendinitis. The therapists I've seen have been great about pushing me and encouraging my athletic goals while making sure I'm taking care of my injury. I also really appreciate their approach of checking everything going on in the area to identify any stressors. I've had quite a bit of PT in the past and have not experienced this amount of care and focus.
