Fascial Counterstrain (FCS), developed by Brian Tuckey, PT, OSC, JSCCI, is a gentle and effective treatment for a myriad of medical diagnoses and conditions. FCS is the modern version of Strain and Counterstrain, which was originally developed over a 40-year period by Lawrence Jones, DO, starting in 1955.

Helen Maroulis, a world-famous wrestler, used Counterstrain to turn her career around to win an Olympic Medal. Her story is told in a new documentary to be released for one day only on Thursday, March 30. We’ll update this page with more news about the film as we learn more!

I have had physical therapy in the past but I have never had the Fascial Counterstrain techniques used until I went to ARC. My PT, Alison Brown Ferguson’s expertise with evaluating the exact problem areas and using the Counterstrain techniques has allowed me to regain physical function and greatly decreased my pain. I strongly recommend ARC and Alison to anyone in need of physical therapy treatment.

ARC’s strain/counterstrain has been much more useful to me for relieving severely clenched or damaged tissue than previous treatments at other PT institutions or therapeutic massage; it’s brought me long-term relief. I couldn’t recommend her more highly.

I heartily endorse ARC for clinical expertise, professionalism and personal warmth. I missed an appointment due to a death in my family and they sent me a card. Very caring people.

You can go to the roadside PT places where you may get a PT with one year of experience or you can go to ARC and know you have years of experience and highly regarded professionals within their field taking care of you. They have helped me for multiple issues and I can only sing praises.

My first ever physical therapy to treat soreness in hips and pelvic area. Closest thing to magic I’ve ever experienced. Amy used techniques to identify the sources of pain problem areas and gently worked them out. Much more comfortable than I had expected. Problems haven’t returned since last visit a few months ago, but I sure know where to go if they do.

Fantastic experience: Recently moving here from Austin, I hurt my neck and back, and was in severe pain for 2 months. I was taking a large amount of anti-inflammatory medications, and the pain was not diminishing. Physical Therapy was ultimately recommended. I was overwhelmed by the number of choices I had for Rehabilitation Clinics in a large city like Chicago. I looked at many of the web sites, and most of them did not hit me the right way, until I got to ARC. They seemed to offer more personal and professional treatment. Sessions are in fact one-on-one, and my therapist is highly competent and well educated. I have received only 2 treatments and already I feel much better, without the medication. Though the process of researching clinics was less than fun, I'm glad I took the time for it, as I think I found a very good clinic.

Fantastic experience: My experience at ARC rehab was alsome. Amy was really insperational on my rehab on my back. It make me want to hurt another part of my body so I could go back. (Just Kidding on hurting myself) but thank you Amy, and Maggie.
