Fantastic experience: Staff was friendly and so kind. Shae the DON was wonderful amd knowledgeable about her company. Even though nursing is always hard but I would work there do to there team moral and awesome customers service. And they care about there patients and all staff miss that in my old job. Such a wonderful place ❤️

Negative experience: I'm an agency CNA, and my last straw with Chesapeake Health was yesterday. The nurse gave me 23 residents, and the other staff CNA had 12. When I said something to the CNA, her reply was that she had more total-care residents in her assignment. There were more than twelve total-care residents in my assignment, plus an additional eleven.

Fantastic experience: Staff was very nice!!

Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting place. My mother who is incontinent was left to lay in urine soaked clothes and bedding. If I wasn’t there at meal time she was not fed. No one answered a call light. Try to find a nurse for help and they are always at the desk on their phones. Carpet in patient room reeked of urine. The only saving grace in this place were three CNAs who did their absolute best to try and give good care even though they had impossible work loads. I want to thank George, Shayna and Tamika for their loving care. They were the only redeeming thing about this place

Fantastic experience: The report of his day gave me great joy and hope. During our visit he was rested, happy and relaxed. His biggest concern was the hiccups. After a little while they went away. Lastly, everyone is friendly and it is a friendly environment to see my father in. .

Negative experience: I had the opportunity to be placed there in rehab for 30 days the placed had a terrible urine smell and I had to keep my room door closed for the duration time that I was there.The C.N.A'S there you can count the 1's that's dedicated to what they are there for because u ring the bell they take their time to get to u.Then if you need them to help you go to the bathroom they will take wet wipes and wipe your butt some never give you soap and water to clean ourself they are off the chain up in here.Then there are roach and mice traps all over the floor and in the Hubbard where you keep your clothes in 30 days in there house keeping came to my room 3 times to clean it and then a family had to ask for a broom and dust pan in oder to get some results!!!!But the far most thing is the food they sent me there with a regular diet and for 4 days they kept sending me puree food then after my daughter called the kitchen they start sending me a regular diet but at there everyday it was oatmeal and a piece of toast which I don't eat no bodies oatmeal and about twice a week we would get a turkey sausage a piece of meat if it won't oatmeal it was grits and toast. This rehab needs to be shout down and the physical therapist was great as well as 4 C.N.A'S I had 1 burse that gave me the utmost service and respect!!!! If you are looking for a rehab center to place ur love 1 at please by all means do not go here thinking these people have ur best interest for you or a love 1 because they don't they care nothing about you or your love 1 If I could give them a zero I would because I love people and want the people that can't help themselves to get the help they need they leave these people in feces and urine for ours and they don't bath you like they suppose to but I just wanted to do my time and get out so I can go to some head people and make my voice heard for the sake of others this by far is the worse nursing and rehab center that I will never recommend this facility to anyone and I'm going to be the voice for those that can't speak for themselves because this is terrible

Negative experience: My mom was in here for a month and I would not recommend this place to anyone for their loved ones. Her room had roach and mice traps sitting on the floor, we had to ask someone to clean her room multiple times, they were understaffed, didn’t have the proper equipment for her rehab, food was nasty to the point she never ate and I always had to bring her food over there.

Fantastic experience: This is 5th center my Mom’s been to in the last four years. The facility is very clean, they actually have a cleaning staff working from at least 9a to 4p. The nurses are friendly and patient. The Rehabilitation staff, takes their time and they are working hard to get my mom home. The Rehabilitation staff works with her 7 days a week, which is better than the other facilities she’s been to. Again this is the 5th center she has been and by far the best.

Negative experience: The staff is poorly trained and are not equipped to give proper care to patients. They left a terminal cancer patient without PRESCRIBED Pain Medication for a full day and we were told for EIGHTEEN HOURS that it be ready in TWO hours. Then told again that it would be TWO hours. EIGHTEEN hours later..,. No medication! Maybe the facility is waiting for them to die, so they never have to treat them.

Fantastic experience: It has always been a humbling and unique honor to visit and serve our community at This facility. Chesapeake can be proud of this organization and all that they have to provide its short and long term residents. The activities department is very engaged and extremely servant oriented. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve and for feeling welcome and supported.

Negative experience: I would not put anybody in this place unless it was your worst nightmare. What I will say is this place has reverse discrimination they treat Black people in poor people like gold and they treat white people like they don’t want to be bothered. My father was doing great when he left the hospital and all he needed was some physical therapy. They never fitted him for a wheelchair on the first and second day. They basically didn’t try to get him up to walk. All they did was let him stand up. He went downhill by day six he basically was on his deathbed. He is now back in Chesapeake regional dying Because this place just ignored him help I constantly brought my concern to the nurses and to the lead nurse he came in with a urinary tract infection as well, and they let him lay in pee and poop until they decided to do anything about it each day. It was ridiculous. Disgusting not human and basically not doing what they should do by law . They do not contact you and keep you up-to-date. They basically expect you to come over and do their job for them. When decline was seen I should’ve been contacted immediately as medical professionals. They should’ve acted immediately and had him transferred back to the hospital. I had to do this on my own. I don’t know how these folks can look themselves in the mirror. I have no proof, but I would suspect that most of the good reviews are not from anybody that has a white family member unless that family member is coherent can help themselves and the medical staff has to do very minimal work. One of the physical therapist assured me that we would have him back up And I guess that might’ve been on day two and then they just let it go my father was very positive when he got there. He loved the food and he was excited to get stronger to be able to come home and they dropped the ball and now we’re looking at death. The only reason they have a one star is because the lady doctor was one to talk to me and to inform me, but basically she’s just there to help she’s not the staff member. She’s not the person watching over my father 24 hours a day it’s not her responsibility. Some of you reading this may think that death is an Inevitable and yes, it is, but if we can give our family members any time that they have left and put the accountability on the people that are supposed to be helping them and not ignoring them and just letting them lay there That is why we put people in these kind of places because we expect results

Fantastic experience: Miss Cynthia and Niesha have been outstanding caregivers for my mother. Admitted on a weekend, I was a bit worried about "staffing." ALL the staff here have been friendly, professional, and caring. Four days into her stay, we are counting the days until we get her back home.

Negative experience: This is horrible I go to visit my mother today at 11 A.M. and her morning try is still here and food on the floor as well as mold on her curtains this is Unacceptable and it will attract roaches and the mold on the curtains what kind of place is this ?

The admissions department , nursing and therapy department went above and beyond . I am happy to say my grandmother had a pleasant , and positive stay .

Fantastic experience: The employees there are nice i was greeted when i entered the building one receptionist by the name of Tawanda greeted so cheerfully and assisted me with a few questions i had concerning a relative that had physical therapy there…she was so helpful that day and took a lot of stress from me by helping locate her room and she also wished me a blessed day when i leave.. they staff collectively make my short visits pleasant!!

Fantastic experience: From patient care to recreation and every department in between, the staff at Chesapeake Health and Rehab show their passion to enrich the resident/patient lives every day. This is a great place to work, and a great place to come and be cared for.

Fantastic experience: The Facility is quite pleasant, The staff was very nice and informative when I arrived to bring my family member, I felt I was doing them justice in a great way by knowing this was a safe and clean environment for them. The Dietary dept was attentive to my family members likes and dislikes and allergies. I was so pleased with the Business office whereas I was able to make sure all the financials were taken care of without a major headache Thank goodness.

Fantastic experience: The atmosphere is full of positivity. Everyone is always approachable and have a smile on their face. The staff always go above and beyond for their patients . I would highly recommend CHRC to friends and family when looking for placement of a loved one . Between nursing, housekeeping and the awesome therapy your loved one would be sure to receive the care they need.

I notice a challenge section for the patients in the a multy function area, the patients were really engaging with the presenter. I have visited several health care centers, this facility is tops. Mrs. Carolyn, the receptionist was professional, friendly and very welcoming. The facility was clean and the air was fresh. It's a great place. Thank you all for a job well done.

Negative experience: My last visit at the facility was perturbing The resident MsMildred Banks should get up more or have her body rotated more for which she complains of pain. I call that Neglect Whoever the CNA is does not check are ask her what she needs There was also a situation where it was obvious shehad not been changed and the smell was not pleasant Please be sure she is being treated respectfully and as humanly possible

Negative experience: Mother has been at facility not 24 hrs. Staff is friendly and helpful and room is big. Bathroom in room is disgusting but being over Thanksgiving weekend understand staff is short-handed so will update review in few days. Edit: If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Where do I begin. Maybe the room temp being almost 100 degrees, the food cold, nasty, the three roaches crawling on the wall above my moms bed that came within a foot of dropping onto her bed, in addition to the ones on the floor, the Covid she got there from staff, the LACK of communication from one staff member to another. No one knows what the heck they are doing. Giving my mom laxatives x2 a day when she already had diarrhea. There are a few very hard workers there including discharge, Alecia. Mom was no better after spending 21 days there. Disgusting. Should be ashamed to run a place like that. Death sentence. EDIT: so response from admin is to say THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE this isn’t the way they do things-well it IS. DONT LIE. THIS PLACE SHOULD SHUT DOWN AND STOP KILLING PATIENTS that have a chance to recover.

Fantastic experience: Best admission team there is! Great skilled nursing and therapy department. The staff all demonstrate great care and empathy for their patients. Clean building and doing excellent care!

Negative experience: I wish I could give it no stars. First the facility smells of urine and feces,why have carpeting in the rooms if you don't clean them. My father had waited long period for help. He would be left in a wheelchair with no undergarments and the gown barely on him. He didn't get the care he needed and they barely had enough food for his meals as they were continously out of product. I would ask them everyday to shave my father face so he could have a boost in self esteem, yet they couldn't be bothered. The 3 weeks he was there, I do not believe they took him to the bathroom once and a patient with Parkinsons, they are unable to feel certain things or pains. On the 18th he was sent to the ER for low blood pressure when in the end it was discovered his colon had ruptured and he ended up passing. Please do not allow your love ones to go there.

Fantastic experience: My Dad is 100 years old and has been in the hospital and a couple of different rehab centers in the past several months. I live in Nevada and Mom and Dad are in Va. It’s a bit overwhelming and difficult to manage with all those miles between us. CH&RC has gone above and beyond to give me information on Dad with my many phone calls. Everyone there has been so nice and so professional to me. From the receptionists to the nurses station, his therapist, the discharge coordinator, and the rehab manager….They have all taken my calls and didn’t hurry me off either. They all took the time to comfort me and to give me up to the minute info to pass on to my mother. This is a debt I’ll need to pay forward. Thank you all at Chesapeake Heath & Rehab Center. Bravo!

Negative experience: Not sure whose idea it was to put carpeting in a place that has to regularly change patients but it wasn't a good idea. The place REEKS of urine. So badly it's hard to stay in there. Not enough staff. Some are friendly others look miserable. Since their staffing is low they can't possibly change & clean up patients as much as they should which adds to the smell. Then the filthy never cleaned carpets make it worse. There was urine drippings on the floor as I left. Food trays sitting out on a cart that I can only hope were finished plates & not waiting for consumption. The front door says "visitors after 8 pm go to ambulance entrance" that's fine but I couldn't get in well before 8. Also of your loved one has memory problems or is a fall risk the lack of staffing also prevents them for visiting rooms often. Disappointed with my visit there. I pray it improves for the sake of the patients. I'll probably get the generic PR "Call our office tell us more" response to this review.

Negative experience: This place needs to be inspected by the city of Chesapeake for sanity violation. As you walk in you are attacked by the stench of urine! No one is cleaning the actual floors and carpets, just changing beds and pretending to care!! I will be taking this up the chain and see that this place os brought to code! Thank God we have options and will be moving my mom to a better facilty in Va Beach, yes clean, smells fresh !

Fantastic experience: I have been with Chesapeake Health and Rehab for about 6 months and love the people I work with and what we do. The staff truly cares about trying to help each and every person that enters our building. Our assistant administrator, Clarissa, is such a great person. She is super compassionate and helps to make a difference.

Fantastic experience: I've only been working for CHR for a little over 6 months as an admissions nurse but it has been such a great experience working along side the ladies of the admissions team and the Assistant Administrator Clarissa! It's really refreshing working with passionate, hard working women. They are dedicated to making families and residents have the best experience during their stay.

Negative experience: The facility smells like urine!! The room my father in law was admitted to reaked of urine so much so it was gagging us. His nurse was the sweetest lady though. Very personable and kind. Suggest maybe the carpeting should be removed.

Fantastic experience: The receptionist was very helpful and friendly, the 2 CNAs was very nice and helpful . I don’t know their names, but would love to say keep up the excellent service you do. I appreciate all your help. The nurse was very polite and nice also!

Negative experience: Halls and rooms smell like urine a feces, took hours for my dad to get a response from a nurse, all the while he heard them in the hallway hooting and hollering like it was a party place. There are roaches in the rooms and hallways, when my dad first arrived the original nurse immediately passed my dad off to another nurse because she felt he was not going to be an easy patient because of his health issues he was explaining to her. I will be contacting the proper people to have this place inspected and hopefully changed or shut down. I can't believe this place is open and taking care of patients.

Fantastic experience: I found the staff and nurses to be very polite and professional. Especially on unit 2. They were very well informed and attentive when it came to our client Mr. Suiter. Well done!

Fantastic experience: The therapy staff here is top notch, and always willing to help the patients even after therapy sessions. The two rehab gyms are always busy, but never crowded. There is a great camaraderie among the OTs, PTs and SLPs which creates a fun environment for therapy.

Negative experience: Came for another visit and today started off just fine. Until she was ready to go to bed, that was at 8 pm and I'm still waiting for a nurse to come and put her to bed at 9:30 pm. Can not find a nurse to get her in bed. They need more help. One nurse said 5 minutes and she'll be back that was an hour ago. I'm not happy

Negative experience: My mother had a stroke and the hospital sent my mother to this rehab center my mother had not been here over two weeks and in this time frame she has fell out of bed and was on the floor laying in the dark hollering for help for only God know how long she was on the floor my brother found her asked for help and one nurse just looked at him and sat down like she didn’t care he opened the door and shot two other nurses they came and helped but we’re not assigned with my mother if you care about your family DON’T send them here

Negative experience: The hallways and rooms smelled like urine in unit 3. The food was bad that even the dr. and nurse commented to bring your own food. Delay in getting medicine. Bed was hard. People hanging out in the hallways in wheelchairs with their heads down. Roaches in the hallways. PT & OT don't get along and argue with cussing in front of the patient. Rooms not cleaned by housekeeping. April Stay. Patient got pneumonia then hospitalized. It isn't a 4.2 star by any means.

Negative experience: This place is a mess. It needs an overhaul when it comes to cleaning. You can tell that the patient doesn't get changed as often as they should, just by the smell when walking in and down the hallways. More staffing, and they don't inform the families of situations in the facility that might impact their loved ones.

Negative experience: If I could give less stars, I would. Do not send anyone you love to this facility. They neglected my father for the entire month he was there. He needed assistance eating. I kept telling them he was losing weight and they insisted his weight had not changed. When I forced their hand to weigh him, he had gone from the 180# they swore he still weighed to a skeleton of 130#. This tells me that no one helped him eat. As his POA, I should have been notified if he was refusing to eat. I called regularly to get updates and could never get anyone to return my calls, and the receptionist gave me attitude. The place smells, most of the employees are too busy hanging out talking to actually assist their patients, and the lack of communication is atrocious. I was able to get my dad home only a matter of days before he died. There's no doubt in my mind that he'd still be here had they actually cared for him properly.

Fantastic experience: Outstanding customer service and super friendly staff that range from doctors to housekeeping service members! Taking care of the sick/ill is an inherently stressful undertaking; however, the hospital's medical team demonstrates, consistently, that they truly care for their patients. Moreover, this first-class type of work ethic is exhibited daily as evidenced by the degree of personal treatment they provide to those under their care. Overall, the staff truly takes pride of their vocation and embrace the hospital's values and mission! Excellent job! Phenomenal experience! Unmatched job performance/skills to the highest standard, which other hospitals should mirror! Please let it reflect and award the working bees as well as the management team for, as any other profession, you often hear the negative and seldom hear the positive! Thank you for what you do!!!

Fantastic experience: The activity Department at Chesapeake is simply amazing!! They have great programs for their residents. The department is lead by a wonderful director. Highly recommend

Negative experience: My mother was admitted to Cheaspeake Health and Rehabilitation Center after 2 months in Sentara Norfolk General. She had been to this facility in 2020 for a fall and they were excellent but now the facility is horrible DoNot take your love one there. They do not have enough nurses, CNA or support staff to work. They need help badly. My mom sat in urine and feces for 2 hours. Getting medication on time well forget about it. The physical Therapist one guy ((African American ) was ok he was doing great will my mom. You have a room for therapy and you’re doing it bedside with a pregnant therapist what a risk if my mom is falling or kicks her . Smh There’s carpeting throughout and it smelled bad. The only thing good about CH&R is they allow you to stay with your love one. We never left her side 24hrs around the clock because of her experiences at SNG hospital. The Nursing Home industry needs help bad. I will post my next review . We left there now at Waterside Health & Rehabilitation
