Grand Valley Rehabilitation Services - N. 12th Street

Physical therapy is concerned with identifying and maximizing movement potential within the spheres of promotion, prevention, diagnosis, treatment/intervention, and rehabilitation. For people who want to improve their motion for greater quality of life, physical therapists are the preferred provider of the scope of treatment options proven and trusted to produce long-term results.

This type of therapy can be beneficial to any disorder that limits mobility, everything from acute injuries, such as a sprain or recent surgery to chronic ailments, such as osteoarthritis or neurological conditions.

Occupational therapy helps people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities. Services may include comprehensive evaluations of the client’s home and other environments, recommendations for adaptive equipment and training in its use, and guidance and education for family members and caregivers.

Common interventions include helping children with disabilities to participate fully in school and social situations, helping people recovering from musculoskeletal and neurological injuries to regain skills, and providing support for older adults experiencing physical and cognitive changes.

Speech and language therapy is concerned with the management of disorders of speech, language, communication, oral motor and swallowing in children and adults. Speech and language therapists work with a variety of people including those who cannot or have difficulty producing speech sounds; those with problems understanding language; and those with cognitive communication impairments, such as attention, memory, and problem-solving disorders.

Do I need a referral to your office? - A referral from a physician is required to initiate occupational therapy, speech, and language services. Colorado allows a physical therapist to evaluate and treat a patient without a referral; however, many insurances require a referral for reimbursement. A referral for physical therapy is not necessary if you are not planning on using insurance for payment.

How many visits will I need? - Each individual is different. After careful evaluation of your needs, your therapist will discuss it with you and determine the number of visits required to help you achieve your goals.
