Our board-certified interventional pain management physicians are among the top regional providers of non-surgical orthopedic care. They have undergone rigorous training to develop expertise in treating all types of spine and joint pain. They are dedicated to taking the time to create personalized treatment plans so that you can get the quality medical care that you deserve.
Interventional pain management is a medical specialty that focuses on diagnosing and alleviating pain through minimally invasive procedures. This approach aims to identify and treat the source of pain without surgery. Common interventional pain management procedures include epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, joint injections and radio-frequency ablation. The goal is to improve quality of life by reducing or eliminating acute and chronic pain.
Interventional pain management starts with the correct diagnosis. Our specialists will spend time with you, take a detailed history and order the appropriate tests. Once the root cause of your pain is identified, your interventional pain management doctor can target it with a minimally invasive procedure such as an injection. This approach can help alleviate your pain without strong pain medications or surgery.
It is highly advisable to see an interventional pain management specialist before considering surgery. Pain management specialists can assess your condition comprehensively to determine if surgery is necessary, as well as explore non-invasive treatments and interventions that can alleviate your pain.
Interventional pain management treatments encompass a variety of minimally invasive procedures aimed at alleviating pain. Common interventions include epidural steroid injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation and joint injections. These procedures target the source of pain, such as inflamed nerves or joints. The goal is to reduce pain and improve quality of life for individuals suffering from acute or chronic pain. The choice of treatment depends on the underlying cause of pain and the patient's unique medical history.
Although physical therapy can be part of a pain management treatment plan, it is different from interventional pain management. Interventional pain management is a medical specialty focusing on minimally invasive pain relieving procedures, while physical therapy utilizes exercise and manual therapy to support the spine and joints. Many times these two approaches are combined to optimize treatment for a range of painful conditions. At The Spine & Sports Health Center, our primary focus is interventional pain management, but we believe physical therapy plays an important supportive role .
Interventional pain management and “pain medicine” are related fields, but they differ in their approach. The term “pain medicine” is typically associated with prescription pain medication that doesn’t address the underlying issue. In contrast, interventional pain management focuses on identifying the source of the pain and then targeting it through the use of minimally invasive procedures such as injections and nerve blocks. In this regard, interventional pain management techniques are often safer and longer lasting than prescription pain medications.

Alexander Visco, M.D.: Reviews
Fantastic experience: When you deal with Dr. Visco you will learn that he really listens to his patients, he wants to get their feedback on how they're feeling and he really works with you on a program to get you better. I had a nasty accident in June. Not only was I physically in bad shape, but I was mentally drained. Months later, with alot of hard work and following instructions I have been able to get better, physically and both mentally. I know I am probably a few months away from getting back to my normal self, but my progress could not have happened without him and his staff and for that I am forever thankful
Fantastic experience: I was a walk in for pain in my right arm. I saw Dr. Visco and was diagnosed with tennis elbow. I started physcial therapy and the results were almost immediate relief. It took 3 months of treatment but well worth the time. I feel so much better. The therapists and aids were all so helpful and attentive to my needs. I would come back again for any future PT! Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Dr Visco is amazing! Staff very friendly, and caring. Back problem and frozen shoulder gone! Thank you for getting me back to pain free.
Fantastic experience: I've been going to Dr. Visco for some time now and I must say that Dr. Visco and his staff are very professional, and always there no matter the issue. I highly recommend them for any spinal issues you may have.If there were more stars I'd give more!
Fantastic experience: I was recommended to Dr. Visco about 6 years ago when I began suffering from severe back pain attributed to a deteriorating disc in my lower spine. When I met with Dr. Visco I was extremely pleased with his attentiveness and willingness to explore every option possible to get to the root of my issue. Dr. Visco is thorough and offers great alternatives to surgery. I would recommend Dr. Visco and his PT facilities to get you straight (pun intended) or as an option for those recovering from back surgery. Don't know what I would have done without him!
