Back pain is an extremely common reason people come to Pick PT. Chronic or even just short term back pain can be debilitating. It can dramatically change an active and productive lifestyle into a sedentary one. This could easily lead to other problems that will negatively impact your life. We’ve helped hundreds of others get back to a more fulfilling life and we can likely do the same for. Don’t let back pain stop you from living life the way you want to.

People suffering from neck pain is another extremely common patient in our clinic. You never realize how much you turn your head until it becomes difficult or painful to do so. There are so many ways that neck pain can be caused. Our skilled staff of physical therapy professionals can help identify what may be causing your pain. In addition to creating a treatment plan for you, we’ll ask questions to try and identify what may be causing or contributing to your chronic neck pain. Sometimes there are small changes in your sleeping positions or daily habits that may be causing the pain outside of obvious injuries or accidents. Our physical therapist will help you strengthen certain groups of muscles to help support your body in better ways to reduce, mitigate or eliminate neck pain.

Chronic pain of any kind is a sign that things just aren’t working the way they should be. In most situations, we can either help relieve or reduce the amount of pain to help give you a higher quality of life. When you come in to meet with our team, we will walk you through the full process, trying to identify what the true source of your pain is. Then from there, we assess what needs to be done to help relieve or reduce the pain you are experiencing. In many cases, the muscles aren’t quite firing the way they need to be or an area of the body needs to be strengthened. We can then create a treatment plan to get you well on your way to living a better life.

Chronic pain is anything lasting more than three months. Acute pain can evolve into chronic pain because the brain becomes overly sensitive to pain responses in the body. Therapy can assist with chronic pain by retraining the brain. Overcoming chronic pain is a multi-step process, but physical activity is one important aspect.

Car accidents, slips, trips, falls, and whatever else may have happened can leave you seriously hurt. Sometimes, the pain goes away with a little bit of time and the body will heal itself. In other situations, your body may need a little help recovering. That’s where Pick PT comes in. We have years of experience identifying and helping relieve pain in a variety of different situations. One of our biggest concerns after an accident is the risk of obtaining another injury while your body is in a weakened state. Physical therapy can speed up recovery time to get you back to normal life as soon as possible while also reducing the potential for secondary injury. At physical therapy you will strengthen and repair your body’s damaged tissues so that your body can heal in a healthy way. Physical therapy after accidents can also decrease your chances of needing surgery or need for prescribed pain medicines. Let us help you regain strength in your body’s normal and natural ways. Some common injuries we treat are: broken bones, whiplash, spine or tissue damage, stiffness and headache.

The time and what a person does after a surgery occurs is important. It’s important that proper therapy happens to help the body appropriately recover. If it doesn’t it could negatively impact other portions of the body. Therapy after surgery helps improve blood circulation which is a great tool to aid with proper healing. Having decent circulation to the repaired area can also reduce inflammation which can cause pain and other issues. Regaining mobility and muscle function is also a top priority after surgery. Your therapist may request access to imaging that has been done before and after the procedure in order to better know exactly what exercises and stretches will benefit you. Regardless of which area of the body was operated on, your therapist will most likely focus on core exercises, because whenever a muscle is compromised it is important to have a strong core so you do not end up overcompensating and pulling other muscles as a result.

Dizziness is often caused by crystals in the inner ear that can be maneuvered by the physical therapist to a different position that will cause less vertigo. If crystals are the issue, then physical therapy is more effective than any other treatment. In older adults over 65 falls are a concern. Improving balance can help decrease the chance of a fall. Our physical therapists can help you strengthen your legs and improve overall mobility as well as balance which will not only decrease your chances of falling, but could improve recovery time in case of a fall. Therapists can identify the root cause of dizziness and balance issues and make a catered plan accordingly. We can also help with education on the proper use of canes and other stabilizing devices.

One of the reasons people continue to go to a physical therapist even after they have been given exercises that can often be done at home is for manual manipulation. This kind of manual therapy must be done by a qualified therapist. Manual therapy not only involves the actual manipulation of the muscles and tissues but can help the therapist identify exactly where the problems are through feeling and touch. After a session of manual manipulation, you may feel uncomfortable or sore, but this is a way for patients to see results quicker.

This place was fantastic! I dealt with some abnormal back pain for quite a while before finally deciding to visit a physical therapist. Dr. Cordell Pickering was very friendly and helped me to get my back feeling better while providing plenty of resources and help along the way. I would highly recommend Dr. Pickering for any sort of back problems.

Less than two months ago, I was having intense lower back pain. This was due to a condition I have known as psoriatic arthritis. I was in so much pain, I went to a pain specialist in Idaho Falls, where they had planned to give me an epidural to help with the swelling in my back. Having a long needle in my back for 10 minutes kind of freaked me out and I didn’t go thru with it. That was November of 2019. So instead, I chose to go to Doctor Pickering who taught me what I needed to do to strengthen my back muscles. After two weeks of physical therapy at PickPT, my back problems were practically gone. I wanted to minimize the change of ever needing an injection, and decided to continue seeing Doctor Pickering. For months, I have been nearly pain free in my lower back!

I went to Pick PT after having surgery. I was able to heal quickly and met all of my goals to getting back to normal! The staff is so friendly and they know what they are doing! Doctor Pickering did an amazing job of pushing me to get better while also making sure I was never in pain. If I could give them 10 stars I would!
