Our Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine provides physical & occupational therapy, and speech/language pathology services in a patient-focused environment.

Stoughton Health Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech/language pathology services in a patient-focused care environment with a supportive and dynamic interdisciplinary team. Our therapists provide comprehensive evaluation, treatment, and education for patients ranging in age from infant to geriatric. The therapy staff have more than 250 years of combined experience. Our skilled professionals and caring staff strive to provide every individual with an increased ability for independence with daily activities and the ability to enjoy life.

In compliance with the WI State Practice Act for Therapy, we now offer direct access to our physical and occupational therapy services. An order from a doctor is no longer required for our occupational and physical therapists to provide treatment. Clients can self-refer and directly contact either of our two outpatient rehab clinics for an appointment.

Physical therapists are movement experts who treat people of all ages and abilities, helping them improve and maintain function and quality of life. Physical therapists create individual treatment plans to match each person’s goals, helping them improve their fitness and function, avoid surgery, reduce the use of opioids and other drugs, and partner in their own care.

OT also helps to facilitate hand, arm and mental processes that are impaired due to a neurological disorder such as a stroke or head injury; and provides instruction in adaptive techniques for self-care and daily activities.

Speech therapists specialize in the assessment and treatment of swallowing disorders, as well as language and reasoning skills that may be due to a stroke, head injury or developmental disorder.

Emily Grosse, PT, DPT shares how physical therapy can help treat urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain and abdominal weakness following childbirth or surgery.

In your everyday life, you may not even think about your balance and quite often we take our balance for granted, but it is an important and vital part of our health and well being. Many elders fall each year due to balance and stability issues. It has been shown that falls can reduce the quality of life and increase the mortality rate for seniors.

That is why, in this segment, Jennifer Ballweg, Physical Therapist at Stoughton Hospital joins the show to share with you how to do balance and stability training to reduce the risk of falls, at any age.

If you are living with chronic pain, you might want to consider dry needling therapy. Dry needling is a physical therapy intervention used to target muscle banding or knots.

In this segment, Stoughton Hospital physical therapist, Liz Touchett, discusses Dry Needling, and the benefits it can offer those that suffer from chronic pain.

Astym® treatment is a therapy that regenerates healthy soft tissues and eliminates or reduces unwanted scar tissue that may be causing pain or movement restrictions. Astym® treatment is highly effective and even works when other approaches routinely fail. When your health and ability to stay active is at stake, only the best will do.

In this segment, Carin Johns, Physical Therapist at Stoughton Hospital and certified provider of ASTYM, joins the show to discuss the benefits of ASTYM and how it can help you return sooner to the activities that you enjoy

To address this national health crisis, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued guidelines in March 2016 urging providers to reduce opioid prescribing in favor of safe, non-drug alternatives such as physical therapy for chronic pain conditions. The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) launched a national public awareness campaign to educate consumers about the risks of opioids and the safe alternative of physical therapy for pain management.

Lymphedema is the accumulation of a particular kind of fluid, typically in one part of the body. Lymph is the protein-rich body fluid that accumulates when the lymphatic system for fluid transport is damaged.

Fluid transport is one very important component, but many do not realize that the lymphatic system is part of the immune system. It fulfills the function of ‘immune trafficking,’ the process whereby infection-fighting cells can be mobilized to the tissues that require assistance.

Melissa Monte, a Stoughton Hospital Occupational Therapist, is here to discuss how Stoughton Hospital can help if you’ve been diagnosed with Lymphedema.

In this panel interview Emily Devine, DPT, and Rachel Peerenboom, DPT discuss Parkinson’s Disease and how LSVT Big can help ease some of the symptoms.

LSVT-Loud is an amazing speech treatment for individuals with Parkinson’s disease or other neurological conditions. It can greatly improve vocal volume and articulation through voice muscle stimulation exercises.

According to the The National Parkinson Foundation, an estimated one million people in the United States, and four to six million worldwide, have parkinson’s disease. It affects more people than multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease), muscular dystrophy, and myasthenia gravis combined.

In this segment, Emily Devine, DPT, joins the show to discuss management of Parkinson’s Disease, Parkinson Wellness Recovery & LSVT-BIG Certifications for Parkinson’s Disease.
