NEA Baptist Memorial Hosptial: Physical Medicine/Rehab: Reviews
Positive experience: My clinic appointments are always done professionally and in a timely, efficient manner. ER visits, however, have been next to nightmarish. 1 visit, in the middle of the night, I presented with my back locked up. I was unable to stand upright or walk w/o assistance. Upon arrival, I was seen quickly only to have NOTHING done. No x-rays, no exam to speak of. Just questions. I got a prescription of muscle relaxers and advice to go see a Dr. ???? I was THERE to see a DR. I was seeking help, but received nothing. Our Emergency Medical system was once a place one could get treated when an unexpected injury/illness arose. Not today. I am a recovered opiate addict, so I even self-identified, telling both staff, nurses, and doctors that I could not take narcotic pain medication. Even then, they seemed unable or unwilling to treat me. They released me in less than 30 minutes, still unable to walk normally. 2nd ER visit: I was shown less than professional kindness by a female ER doctor bc, I believe, she had a negative view of a patient "like me". I presented with a deep cut to an artery, obviously self-imposed, though I lied so I wouldn't get placed on a mental health hold. I had stopped the bleeding, myself. & was seeking stitches which points to a non-suicidal patient. I was given 8 stitches, but was treated so coldly. They placed me on suicide watch & placed me on a mental health hold, anyway. I was very clear that I was not suicidal, in fact, my own actions proved the opposite was true. They took my eyeglasses & refused to give them back because "I could break them and cut myself w/the glass." They're Plastic, & the staff identified them as such. Also, they were identified as non-glass on my intake paperwork which means they knowingly withheld "safe" corrective eyewear. I question why. I question the ability of the ER doctor who was on duty to treat mental health patients with dignity & respect. I question the entire team because they willingly followed orders that were seemingly unethical. I genuinely believe this ER doctor showed an inability to put aside personal feelings to the extent that she was not acting out of fear for my safety when she withheld my eyewear or when she held me against my wishes. What did drive her??
