Heather Rodriguez has been with Cal Rehab for several years. Working as a therapist was a big goal of hers. She started out as an aide in 2015, and finished school to obtain her PTA license in 2020 from American Career College. She was born and raised in Orange County, never wanting to leave the warm weather and sea breeze. Her hobbies include spending time with the ones she loves and painting. When working with patients, she hopes to achieve their goals one step at a time. At the same time, be able to have fun while working.  

Matthew has been a physical therapist in the outpatient orthopedic setting for over 27 years. Before coming to PRN, he spent the last five years with the sports medicine team at Torrey Pines Orthopedic Medical Group. He has also been the rehabilitation supervisor at a level three trauma hospital and was a physical therapist for the Screen Actors Guild early in his career. Matthew has particular interest and expertise in the treatment of foot/ankle biomechanical dysfunction, upper cervical pathology, athletic shoulder injuries, and lumbar conditions. In his free time, Matthew and his wife try to catch up with their daughter at UC Berkeley, their son at Georgia Tech and their two Australian Shepherds.

Joie has been practicing physical therapy in an outpatient setting for over 20 years. She graduated from the University of California, San Francisco with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy in 2000, working in outpatient and occupational medicine settings. Throughout her career, she has taken courses with a strong emphasis on manual therapy and is certified in blood flow restriction therapy. As a breast cancer survivor, she possesses a first-hand understanding of the path to physical and emotional well-being and uses that experience in treating other post lumpectomy, mastectomy, and reconstruction patients. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, going to the theater, skiing and spending time with her husband and daughter.

Trent is an Orange County native, born and raised in San Clemente. He has had a keen interest in physical therapy ever since he experienced the profession as a patient for various sports-related injuries. Trent graduated from Westmont College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology before pursuing a career in physical therapy. He went on to graduate from the University of Saint Augustine with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, where he received high honors. Trent has extensive experience working in the outpatient orthopedic physical therapy setting, including time spent in private practice as well as the Veteran’s Administration. He believes in an individualized approach to evidence-based physical therapy practice and really enjoys treating patients with a wide variety of musculoskeletal injuries. Outside of the clinic, Trent loves to spend time with his wife, cycle, surf, and hike.

The facility is always clean, they have all the equipment I needed, it's never crowded, and the staff is top notch. Joie was my physical therapist and she is awesome. I was always greeted with smiles and all the staff were super friendly and attentive. I've had to go to physical therapy a few times in the past, but was never impressed with the facility, staff for particular physical therapist like I was at California Rehabilitation Physical Therapy. I did PT after my scoliosis surgery in 2019. Didn't do anything much. Now I have back, hip, knee pains. Could hardly walk. Matt did a wonderful job strengthening my back, hip, knees, legs. Now I am confident I have a recovery plan and no need for knee surgery. Thank you.

Thanks to direct access, we can see any patient without a referral from a doctor for an initial evaluation. If our therapists believe that physical therapy is a good option for your needs, we can work with you and your physician to obtain a prescription for continued care. If your diagnosis requires additional expertise, we can also refer you to a specialist to handle your care.

Please wear or bring comfortable athletic/workout clothing to change into. This includes shorts or sweatpants, a t-shirt and sneakers. Your attire should also allow easy access to your injured area for treatment by your physical therapist.

The frequency of your treatment will depend on your physician’s prescription and the plan of care developed by your physical therapist. Most patients require treatment two to three times per week. The duration of treatment will depend on your injury and personal progress. Your physical therapist will discuss this with you following your initial exam and subsequently as you progress.

If you are unable to attend an appointment, we require at least 24 hours' notice. However, we do understand than an occasional emergency or illness may arise, in which case you may have to cancel your appointment closer to your scheduled time.

We accept most major insurances including Medicare, Tricare and workers’ compensation plans. Before your initial visit, we will verify in and out of network benefits with your insurance company. The cost of therapy is determined by the benefits of your insurance plan, including the deductible and co-pay, or patient percentage. We are happy to check with your insurance company to determine the terms of your coverage. Payment for patient responsibility is due at the time of service.
