Negative experience: The urology department will completely ignore you when you tell them that you need antibiotics following surgery, I felt disrespected, ignored, and like they were incompetent. Do not go here if you want to keep your kidneys.

Fantastic experience: I came in after realizing that my high nostril piercing had embedded into my nose on the inside. I spent 2 hours in my bathroom at home trying to get it out myself. Once I had exhausted all my own resources, I came to the MU Emergency room. The ENT Dr. Who helped me was phenomenal! She was kind and she had a very reassuring attitude about my situation. Despite the challenge (and it was a challenge) she figured out the best and least painful way to remove my stuck jewelry. 1000/10 I wish the best for her.

Fantastic experience: This hospital’s people are phenomenal. We had Kathryn H. From Child Life Services to entertain our children as she went through needle pricks, Lincoln Brown was our resident physician and he was awesome with being caring and walking us through this trauma, while Jared Hilton was the surgeon and was very great doing a wonderful job getting our daughter fixed back up again. The nurses too I want to compliment on their courtesy and kindness. I praise our Lord for His protection and giving us a wonderful team of people to take care of our daughter.

Fantastic experience: My son was diagnosed with cancer over a year ago. His treatment team has been top notch. From the doctors to the janitors every one has been kind and caring even providing an extra bed in the room for my self to be closer to my son. They have done everything in their power and gone above and beyond for my family. I will forever be grateful to them.

Fantastic experience: My surgery went very well with Dr. Xu. I dont remember anything about recovery but during my night stay, the night RN Jad was amazing. He was very caring and patient and one of the best RN's I had.

Negative experience: This facility is absolutely worthless. The ER is dirty. The restrooms are filthy and stink of urine. The staff is rude. Tonight, we've spent over 6 hours watching the staff openly treating people in the waiting room. One male nurse even sat beside a couple who had been waiting longer and openly discussed her health issues in the waiting room. When I pointed out the obvious HIPAA and ethical issues the older female nurse snapped demanding to know who spoke about my daughters condition. She totally missed the point. We then got to witness an elderly lady have her 3rd waiting room seizure of the evening. They still made her wait in the lobby. If she wishes to file a claim against you I will happily testify. Don't worry, there were plenty of people taking video of the incident. So as we approach 6 hours in this waiting room we are left to wonder if my daughter needs the IV in her arm... just hanging out in this waiting room. While your nurse stares daggers in our direction. I can't wait to see just how much this bill is going to be as this visit is out of pocket. Too bad your bills aren't based on quality of service. You're getting a gift in one star as there is no option to rate you less. Great now we get to set with an inmate in handcuffs. Worthless... Now as we are about to cross midnight we have police and inmates filling the waiting area. I'd post pics but this site is currently not allowing it. Shocking... They found rooms for all the inmates. Should we have worn orange jumpsuits? Would that get us seen faster? I truly hope that you all receive the same quality of care that you are/aren't providing. Shout out to your billing girl who came by to ask, "what you in here for?" "What is your medical problem?" So we are supposed to share personal medical condition with your billing?!?! This is by far the most unprofessional hospital that I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. Note: after 5 hrs 45 min we finally got to begin waiting in a room... saw a doctor at 6.5 hours. The final 2.25 hours were for an additional blood test and urine test. Total visit time: 8 hours 45 min

Negative experience: Of If I could give a negative star I would this has got to be the worst hospital ever waiting room is backed up my brother in law was sent here by ambulance only to be put in the ER waiting room for a couple hours! Like how is this even acceptable with a hospital this size you build all these parking garages but don’t do shit for the emergency services for the people. At one point I told everyone that this hospital was the best hospital around but now I’ll never recommend anyone to come here.

Negative experience: Don't go here for any reason..you will wait hours in the ER and still never be seen by anyone.

Negative experience: Been here for 12 hours and no information yet. These healthcare companies all preach about personal care, that is a lie. Brought my wife in with shooting pain in her head and they still haven't decided what to do. This doesn't make someone confident that they came to the right place. Update: Took 19 hours in the ER to be sent home saying its just a migrane. Currently at Centerpoint hospital and CT shows a spot on her brain. Done with MU for good. Thanks for the stool to sit on for the 19 hours you wasted.

Negative experience: My recent visit to this emergency room was extremely disappointing and left me questioning the standards this hospital claims to uphold. The first issue was the overall cleanliness—or lack thereof. The room I was placed in was dirty, with trash and debris still on the floor from the previous patient. Even the bathrooms were in poor condition and clearly had not been maintained. For an ER, where sanitation should be a priority, this was unacceptable. Beyond the cleanliness, the biggest concern was the complete disregard for patient confidentiality. It starts the moment you walk in the door. Check-in involves loudly stating your name and the reason for your visit in front of everyone in the waiting room. While waiting, I overheard staff having personal and unprofessional conversations right in front of patients, adding to the discomfort. Once taken back to a room, the lack of privacy only got worse. Staff openly discussed personal medical details about other patients within earshot of anyone nearby. Conversations that should have been private were held loudly in hallways or inside rooms with the door wide open. It was alarming how little concern there seemed to be for HIPAA or basic patient respect. Hospitals used to value patient care and privacy. Unfortunately, this visit made it very clear that those standards have slipped at this facility. What happened to this place?

Fantastic experience: My daughter was air lifted here after a horrible accident. She got the very BEST care for the 8 weeks she was at this hospital! I couldn't have hand picked a better team of Dr's Surgeons, nurses, sitters! The food menu is also excellent! I'm so very grateful for University Hospital!

Negative experience: This is the wrost hospital in the state of missouri. If you have family here take them somewhere else. Anywhere else! They use patients as a learning experience to try get away with malpractice. They also have been sued for a many of reasons. Including the one i will be coming after them for.

Positive experience: When we came ( around 11:30 am) in the staff were wonderful. Very attentive, Caring and on top of their game. My daughter had an ct scan ordered. It was probably around 3 hrs to wait for that, then another 4 or 5 hours just waiting until out nurse told them we would like a report of some kind. Then they decided to admit her we waited another 3 or 4 hours for a room. Truly felt forgotten. Even busy the patient needs to know their not pushed aside. Nine hours and still waiting for our room.

Negative experience: This hospital said my insurance is no longer taken then when I called again suddenly it’s taken again. After another phone call to make a life saving appointment they said again my insurance isn’t taken here. Well what is it? Long story short I was lied to by the staff numerous times and the last lady I talked to was extremely rude. I nearly died with not receiving the proper medical care and them not giving me any sort of direction on a new provider. I felt this hospital was trying to kill me and no one should ever feel like that. If you make major changes with what insurances you take you need to train your employees on the new policy so they aren’t lying to people that are literally fighting for their life.

Negative experience: Ever experienced sticker shock? If you want to feel like you’re being over charged and put through a system I’d say you should be a patient at MU because my less than 30 minute visit is costing me over $1100! No one’s time is that valuable & especially after ALL the SEC money, MU is just plain greedy and I will never go back again. Don’t need them or their proud prices. They’re not the only gig in town.

Jessica Parker 10 months ago

Negative experience: I want to start by saying my former doctor and their office were fantastic. Unfortunately, I had to leave and am now establishing care at JCMG because of all the insurance nonsense. The doctors here are running more than an hour behind due to the massive influx of patients, all caused by MU Healthcare monopolizing medical care in mid-Missouri. In the letter MU sent, they simply told us to contact our insurance provider, HealthLink, about the situation — conveniently leaving out the fact that MU is demanding a 39% price increase over the next three years. They are shifting all the blame onto the insurance company. Meanwhile, it’s stated that premiums will rise by an average of $1200 per person, with policyholders (not the insurance company) absorbing the cost. Way to go, MU. Thanks for making healthcare even more stressful for everyone.

Fantastic experience: While dealing with a relative battling cancer, while I’m living in another state far away, the one gleaming positive that has continually been a blessing is Katherine Morris, the financial counselor. It just wouldn’t be enough to say she went above expectations while helping with the Medicaid qualification process for my relative. She has been amazing to work with, what a gem!

Negative experience: This place is more of a prison than a hospital. Everyone who says oh it’s a teaching hospital…I’ve been to plenty of teaching hospitals. This is nothing but a bunch of podunk washed up sorority girls who thought it would be “cute” to wear scrubs and find a dr husband

Matt Burns 2 years ago

Negative experience: I strongly suggest avoiding this place. I set up a payment plan to pay for my surgery last year and made monthly payments for a year. When I changed jobs, I missed two payments because the automatic payments stopped and I had no way of knowing given that the emails went to my old (and now defunct) email address. As soon as I realized the problem, I made two monthly payments in a row and set up a new payment plan. Their response - they sent me to collections! I really question the ethics of this place and can't recommend against it strongly enough.

Negative experience: Was refered here and have spent three months now being rescheduled and bounced around. It is a shame Central Missouri does not have a more reliable hospital for specialties.

Tara Davis 2 years ago

Negative experience: Honestly, the worst health system in Columbia/the entire world. The carelessness of the staff- from the front desk, to the nursing staff, to the provider themselves - the communication is non-existent from portal to nurse to doctor to scheduling to prior authorization and everything thing in between - I have never in my life experienced such a shtshow - absent-minded, negligent to patient care/needs, and irresponsibility to HIPPA.

Positive experience: I wouldn’t suggest going to Dr Gov-Ari. She doesn’t listen to your needs and concerns. She always doesn’t prescribe the right medication. When I used go to her she wouldnt listen to me and just put me on medication. Oh and make sure you don’t mess any appointments for NO REASON with her. Because she will decide she no longer wants to see you. I missed TWO because I never gotten a reminder call and got busy with work or with college. Oh and she ALWAYS running late. No matter what. Parents needed some type of sleeping medication for their long 18 hour flight. This so called Dr gave them something else that may not even help with sleeping and is the medicine used for insomnia and depression. Instead of giving them what they ASKED FOR. She will never give you the medication you ask for. She’ll give you what she thinks.Thank you Dr. Gov-Ari for dropping me as a patient (even though you have kept my parents) because I found Dr. Allmon who went above and beyond for me The reason for the four stars is for Dr. Allmon. She is amazing. Caring. Sweet. And really listens to your worries. Instead of just putting you on medications she will figure out the real issues of your problem then figure out the best way to treat it. If I still lived in Missouri this is the doctor I would still have. Thank you Dr. Allmon for going above and beyond

Negative experience: I drove 3 hrs to see neuro surgeon Dr. Nurgard spelling maybe off. Jus to wait 21/2 hrs not to see him. For a Dr to specialize in pain to leave his patients sitting so long in uncomfortable hard chairs is totally uncalled for. It’s insensitive, shows no compassion, totally unprofessional!!! If he’s so called that thorough then he should schedule accordingly….. I wasn’t the only one left suffering. A older gentleman had jus had a fusion last week and couldn’t even sit comfortably. Here’s my sign!!!! Then send a student in to ask questions the dr going to ask again whenever he does decide to come. I understand they are learning, however I’ve been there 2 hrs at this point. Incompetent Dr in my book…. Needless to say still suffering but I wouldn’t go there if I was you…..

Negative experience: The care is great but best to go somewhere else. Their billing is awful. We were sent to collections incorrectly multiple times. No notice sent. Each time we were able to call billing and after many hours of call center wait time it was retraced out of collections. Get great care somewhere else if you can.

Christine Tuttle 3 years ago

Negative experience: Worst place ever. The doctor scheduled an appointment without notice and canceled 20 mins before, after we drove an hour there. We weren't notified until we arrived. The guy answering phones ignored my questions and walked away. Health care "professionals" are supposed to be working for you not the other way around. That's why our insurance company pays them.

Jerry Weller 3 years ago

Negative experience: Medical care is fine. Billing department is full of knuckleheads who will not file a claim with my insurance company, but instead keep sending me bills, then claiming they will take care of it, then sending me more bills. Everytime I call I am back to square one with a totally different person because the previous person no longer works there. Dealing with that billing department is torture

Fantastic experience: I just want to share that I was a really bad wreck 11/27/2020 and my team of doctors were very very good especially dr Kfuri orthopedic surgeon he save my right leg from being amputated this man is one awesome doctor I can’t thank him enough he is still involved in my care he is very compassionate understanding and very thorough and listens to everything I have to say. Dr Kfuri is a very nice man and I am so lucky to have him as my doctor. I trust him with my life even though he is an orthopedic doctor I would recommend him to anyone….

Negative experience: Crooks, wont tell you upfront how much things cost. Would not have gotten treatment if I had known the prices after insurance and now I have a bill for over $500. Terrible and MU should be ashamed!

Aaron C 4 years ago

Negative experience: Truly one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. They mislead me about the price of my treatment by telling me I was covered and then billing me for over $700 (all while blaming my insurance). Half of the staff is incompetent and will give you flat out incorrect information, I was initially told there was no way to reduce my costs (that I only had to pay because they told me incorrect information), but was later told by a different rep that there was a way to decrease the amount for out of pocket. Incompetent and irresponsible, they should face legal action, because if you look through the reviews or ask around, my experience is not unique. Shameful. Go to Boone.

Kim Deal 5 years ago

Positive experience: It's a teaching hospital, so I understand that they have to do certain things. BUT, not with terminally ill patients. I was very disappointed in the complete lack of communication between "The team." My daughter died the day they offered to put her on the transplant list. Unfortunately, after 5 weeks in the hospital her condition worsened, and transfer to a transplant facility was out of the question. I feel that the terminal patients should be left to the actual doctors and nurses and all the unnecessary poking and prodding by students was out of my comfort zone. Their are too many patients and not enough "certified staff" during the 12 days I was there, I changed the bedding, dressings, urinal, and many other things myself, simply because they are overwhelmed with patients, they forget what they were doing. Very sad that my daughter died, when transfer and transport were available, due to a status change our hands were tired. What in the hell does "Terminally Stable" mean? She went from critical to stable due to a paperwork error.

Negative experience: I wish I could give this place Zero stars ! They have treated my loved one and I horrible. Everyday it was always something . Leaving needles in my boyfriends bed! Leaving the wound vac off completely and not paying any attention to it . Leaving soiled linens underneath him when he can’t remove them himself cause he’s bed bound. I guess I’ll give them the 1 star for saving his life but that’s it . You would think you would get the best care at this hospital but it’s not all what it seems ! Every time my boyfriend had to have surgery they cancelled they did it for 3 days in a row had him not to eat all day and then decided it was cancelled . I couldn’t go to work feeling like my boyfriend was going to be taken care is I always found something that wasn’t being done . Such as simple things as no ice water by his bedside ! The ice machine never had ice in it or even plugged in to help is swelling on his broken femur. Thank God with the experience I have I was able to catch these things . A lot more had went on I could be here all day long talking about this hospital but I think this says enough . Disgusted on how they could treat an individual aka your loved one.

Negative experience: My daughter received care in February 2018; the 1st bill we received was February, 2019 approximately 1 year later. I promptly paid the balance due pursuant to the billing statement. Then in March 2019 I received another bill with a balance due due . There was no insurance payment as it was out of network so they changed their adjustment/discounts to reflect a balance due. IT IS NOT FAIR WHEN YOU RECEIVE A BILL A YEAR AFTER THE DATE OF SERVICE AND PAY IT IN FULL FOR THE PROVIDER TO THEN DECIDE THEY MADE A MISTAKE IN THE ADJUSTMENT/DISCOUNTS CAUSING YOU TO OWE MORE. Will NEVER go back and will probably turn my daughter over to collection for an $81.00 error that they made. I have sent in my dispute and they keep saying it was out of network therefore causing the balance due. They knew March 2018 that the insurance was out of network. I don't think it is fair that you receive a statement stating balance due upon receipt, you pay then they change the bill to show you owe more.

Jeff Hailey 6 years ago

Negative experience: Don't go here unless you are dying, you'll regret it with every bill you DON'T receive. I visited two separate locations (Emergency room visit and follow up). I setup a payment plan to pay off my $250 ER copay, but I was never informed about a $15 bill that my insurance didn't cover from the follow up (not my copay, this was billed after the visit). I had been in contact with the billing department on a regular basis to make monthly payments, with no mention of this $15 mystery bill. I do not remember seeing any statement or phone calling discussing the unpaid $15 bill and I eventually received a letter from a debt collector. I called MU Healthcare billing to have this resolved, I was told if I paid the balance it wouldn't be reported to my credit as there was a 30 day window after it was sent to collections before it was reported. After paying the balance (directly to MU) I ask for something in writing stating this balance would not be marked on my credit and I was denied, stating they do not provide contract information between their partners and third parties such as patients. I was told to contact the debt collector to ensure this wouldn't happen. Since the debt was paid to MU, this should be something MU should take care of! I asked to speak to a supervisor and I was told there was no supervisor on duty, that position was vacant and waiting to be filled.... Surprise! The operator (who was as helpful as he could be for the circumstance) took my info and said someone in upper management would call me back in 7-10 days. I'll update this review if I'm actually contacted back and the matter is resolved............... Bottom line, people can't pay bills they don't know about and MU should be able to provide better service to their patients!

Samantha Clapp 6 years ago

Negative experience: Horrible care now that I see how a facility should actually be ran. My care with MU Women and Children's began as a child since it was the place my mother took me. I continued care as an adult since I already had established care there and I wasn't a frequent visitor. Since 18, they have scheduled birth control shots as much as three weeks late when I was receiving them, causing me to take a pregnancy test based on their mistake (I get I should have double checked this, but I truly trusted the nurses to schedule the correct dates). Upon going under pre-conceptive care, I asked multiple people within the system that all the prenatal tests I was to have done would be covered by my specific insurance, besides a few I was aware of. I was assured that it was. The breaking point came when I received a call to go over all my test results, and a nurse told me I tested positive for Herpes. I was frantic, but the nurse provided no insight to it and told me I would have to wait for my doctor to call back with details, and rushed me off the phone. After over 5 days of panic, my doctor finally returned my calls and told me there was no positive STD record in my file, ever. That day I called Boone Women Health Associates and transferred care immediately. Then, two weeks later I receive a bill for almost $800 for all the prenatal tests that had been conducted. Being semi-knowledgeable on insurance coding, I spoke to their billing department and told them that this needed to be re-coded. They did, on three separate occasions, (all from me prompting them to with a phone call or email) and I was assured that their billing system fixes it all and I now only owed $109, for an ultra sound not covered to which I understood. Today, I received a notice from a collection agency, for $223. In realizing how a stand-up doctors office and billing department works in WHA, it's sickening how MU Health Care is run. I cant imagine how many people that don't know how coding/insurance works that are getting taken advantage of, or credit ruined over these types of mistakes. All that for minimal and negligent care. I am so thankful to now be pregnant and under the care of people I actually trust. I have spoken to people around casually and all have similar stories, from the lack of compassion shown for diagnoses and care, to the abhorrent billing system they work through. I hate to be that person who writes reviews about a place, but the mismanagement from top to bottom of this system needs to be known.

Fantastic experience: Was not looking forward to seeing a MU doctor because you have to see an intern or fellow first but in Neurology the fellow seems sincerely caring and kind.
