Fantastic experience: Better than Martinez Hospital IN ALL AREAS

Negative experience: This hospital needs to be shut down!!!!!! It’s filthy and the care teams have no bedside manner! Been going to visit a loved one for 3+ days and their room or around the hospital hasn’t been cleaned! Do not go here! You go to the hospital to get better but will leave worst due to the cleanliness’s and care!

Negative experience: Worst service to go if you in pain they put you in a room and leave you there. No nurses or anything I asked for something for the pain and they told me to wait there were 2 critical patients which I understand but shouldn’t there of been some service available!!

Negative experience: I was admitted to John muir and i will never go back to this hospital. I was admitted for pain in my upper right side. Ultrasound found my gallbladder was dilated. Once in my room the hospital Dr came in and told me nothing is going to happen. She told me I need to lose weight, it's acid reflux and I'm around to many pot smokers. I had some pot in my blood bc I smoked a few days prior to aee if it helped with the pain i was feeling. When she left the room, 1 nurse came in who was super nice. She helped me reset an IV the one I had blew. The CT scan results didn't show anything. But my pain was so bad it made me nauseous. The Dr came back the next day and told me just to make me feel better she's going to send a surgeon to my room, but told me nothing is going to happen. The surgeon came in and decided I should have the gallbladder removed due to all the pain its causing me. A different nurse came in and had to rest a new IV since the other one blew my vein again. She put it in upside down I didn't notice until the morning nurse came in and looked at it. He was baffled about the IV facing backwards so he had to set a new one to remove the one that was placed upside down. The new IV he put in worked but then started to sting. He told me well I did this one so I know its fine. The next day I went into the OR the nurse took one look at my IV and said that needs to come out. I told her how I complained to the nurse but he didn't do anything to fix it bc he knew how good he is.. it blew the vein and my wrist was so swollen. The new IV was placed and all is fine. I Went to my room after surgery and I was told I could go home the next day. I haven't had a BM in 5 days the whole time I was there. I kept saying how off I felt and no one listened. They knew i didnt have a BM this whole time and still discharged me. I went home and a few hours later my fiancée was taking me back into the hospital but this time it was Sutter. I was diagnosed with Colitis something John Muir would've caught if they took the time to listen to me and actually cared. The scary thing is, they are training students their ways. Im all up for training on the job but training them right. Specially when someone's health is on the line. I am never going back there and I encourge people who are going there to be careful.

Positive experience: ER went well the problems only arose once I got admitted. They claim ask questions but they don’t like to answer them. Kaitlyn and Colleen were great the other ones not so much . I ended up leaving AMA because the nurses . Extremely rude . Most should definitely take notes from Kaitlyn and Colleen on patient care . They were so understanding and compassionate. We’re happy to answer any questions.

Negative experience: Dr. Kramer is impatient, and just as much as crooked and a gossiper as her staff. Her staff stands around and doesn't do much work either. I thought pulmonary doctors were supposed to be fit? Such a bad example.

Positive experience: Walking in and out of the hospital is a divine gift. Some nurses and doctors are frustrating and some are natural born healers who are passionate about their work. I understand some patients heavily task their patience as well. The service here is 50-50 though. It depends on who you end up with. I pray every entrance that we’d be in the right hands and for patience and peace when we are in the presence of less attentive healers. Either way, it’s a prayer journey coming in and out of the hospital. This one in particular, I’d say, it’s decent overall. Areas that needs improvement: Communication between doctors and nurses especially before shift change. Communication between hospitalists and family. Maybe there are other areas but most of my attention is on the work of the doctors and nurses and how they manage our care. The house keepers are great, I appreciate cleanliness so much. I like the lobby area, the meditation room is such a great idea. I think it’s very nice they include that in a hospital. They seem to be targeting a holistic approach to treating their patients and helping the families through their stay, and I really appreciate that.

Negative experience: Really bad hospital, I was at the hospital today , waiting for doctor for couple hours when I said I’m leaving the customer service guy told me I don’t care if you are leaving , if you want to see doc you have to wait 6 more hours, and you are looking good and we already have your insurance .

Trevor Butler 1 year ago

Negative experience: Talk about caring more about money over patient care. After waiting for 5 hours in the waiting room at the ER we finally got a room, then the first thing we are asked is how we want to pay. Their level of care has dropped dramatically post pandemic.

Negative experience: Kicked out of the emergency room because someone's feelings got hurt. Obviously more important than a heart attack. Shamelessly rude.

Negative experience: No option to give zero star for this messy and careless hospital I took my 6 year old son to the ER his stomach was hurting him so bad and we been waiting for 4 hours in the hospital and there no Doctors to check hi , they leave the patient ding inside and after 4 hours the kicked us out because i was asking for someone check my son Don’t go to this trash place

Negative experience: Very disappointed with the Security (Allied) IN CONCORD. I guess he was more focused on getting back to his phone. I was in the middle of asking him where the mammogram department was and he says, ID please!” Wow what customer service. I don’t even care that he didn’t greets me, but the lack of compassion is definitively lacking. This is the first point of contact for a hospital. I felt more like I’m being booked at a county jail. I ended up in the hospital two times this week. My second time at John Muir Walnut Creek. The security at JMWC was a little better except for being a little loud as I’m waiting in the ED. John Muir you should really choose your security staff better. People are in pain and feel like they’re dying. This is NOT OK.

Negative experience: Crazy how the whole process works in here the registration nurses are the ones that attend to you the fastest. I know there protocols and procedures they have to follow but I brought my brother due to excessive throwing up and abdominal pain took us in right away got to the room and my brother was shivering he requested 2 blankets of how cold he was nurse said yes will request it nurses did what they had to do for doctor to be able to give anything so was waiting bout 20 min came out to where nurses are stationed and asked are they still bringing blankets in the most nicest way I was almost hesitant but she looked at me and said “you need a blanket “ with attitude and it caught me so off guard because I said well we requested as soon as we got a room in my head I was like what you mean and still took them 10 more min to bring one when they have them down the hall that I confirmed with someone I know that works here. Doctor came in nicest one here besides at the front of registration. I was told when working in this field you cant have a heavy heart or won’t even make it in this field. I understand some people use and abuse the ER for there needs when there not really much going on with them but they need to understand this is someone’s family member because if it was one of there’s they’d do it in a heart beat. Just because someone’s drinks a lot doesn’t mean there not trying to change but automatically look at patients like my brother and say oh well they do this to them selfs like come now I get but when someone is in so much pain at least talk to them and give them encouragement that there trying to figure things out instead they give people silent treatment and when asked questions they say it’s just protocol and I say that because we asked nurse what is being put in his IV and said it’s just something I have to do I was just shocked at this whole experience. I’m sure this anywhere when it comes to hospitals. It’s truly sad and sometimes disgusting

Negative experience: I was there twice for three weeks, and they did not help at all. For context on what happed there, Me and some others were being harassed there and the staff did nothing. I told the staff and I got In trouble for it. He called people slurs, slamming doors, and other stuff. The doctor did not get me at all, they treated us here poorly and I wish I just did not go here.

Negative experience: Profits before care I have insurance in which an emergency visit was 100% covered and was told I will need to pay $2800 in order to proceed and I need to sign an acknowledgment that we had this discussion agreeing to their extortion amount over and above the contractual amount allowed by Blue Shield. I was left in the position of having to pick and choose which medical procedures I could afford, even though they were fully covered by insurance at ER. PROFITS BEFORE PROPER CARE. THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. TIME FOR CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT TO STOP THIS TYPE OF ILLEGAL EXTORTION OF MONEY FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE IN ER AND WORRIED FOR THEIR IMMEDIATE LIFE. if you pay for insurance and insurance says they are contractually obligated to accept insurance payment as payment in full with no harassment or misguided statements. Obviously they have been trained by Management even though Non Profit to Extort every penny and force people to sign what the don’t understand under duress.

Negative experience: Went to urgent care for my fiancé but soon as we stepped into urgent care the lady at the receptionist was just rude, there’s no TV on its 4:40pm so I look forward waiting patiently. The Receptionist to the left of where I was standing straight stopped helping the person in front and just looked and kept mugging me, so I mugged back laughed at her unprofessionalism and sat down. For 1 I myself will not come here 2nd the Dr was so nonchalant with my fiancé dude rolled his eyes at her and talked about his issues like if everyone is the same and told her to do everything she already told him she’s done and kept talking about how it’s easy to correct the sciatic nerve by stretching its works For him. Don’t know why these workers feel comfortable treating people in need like that but what goes up must come down, the disrespect here is crazy. Definitely need to be audited for things you guys do . If you don’t like your job get a new one don’t act “ hard “ behind a reception desk and the Dr shouldn’t be rolling his eyes while someone is describing their pain that’s leading them to the ER for the only relief. Can’t even walk without a cortisone shot and you treat them as if it’s a scratch. This place is just like San Joaquin General ER

Negative experience: Here in the ER with my mom, waiting two hours plus. Everyone has been nice but the waiting area is so filthy dirty! I am appalled that we pay so much for health coverage and we have to sit here seeing so much filth on the floor and bathrooms during Covid and flu season.

Negative experience: My father was coughing up blood for a while. He couldn't sleep because of all the coughing. He went to the ER, the doctor gave him sleeping pills and cough medicine. Now my father is dead, he had stage four lung cancer. I am not saying they could have cured it, but if the doctor did his job, maybe my father could have spent a bit more time with us.

Negative experience: Terrible service. A lot of people standing around talking and laughing and then saying they're"too busy" to hand out Tylenol to a patient with chest pain and aggressive covid symptoms. Been here two hours and nothing. I worked in a hospital where I performed everything from open heart surgery to brain surgery to ob/gyn surgeries. It is literally a 5 minute process to enter my info, have the Pyxis machine pop out a dose of Tylenol, and give it to me. I have literally done this.

Negative experience: Worst service and treatment while we have a loved one!! Rules and regulations are understandable but there is a lot of miss communication with “the want to be security” it’s been multiple incidents while we have family there to the point the security girl didn’t allow my family member to use the restroom! This hospital is ran with getho want to be professional but they are judging one for other peoples actions! Customer service needs to get an eye on the security. Have proper regulations and be fare not races!!

Negative experience: 12pm. I entered the Juin Muir Hospital on 2540 East St, Concord, CA 94520. My provider ordered an xray for me due to an car accident I was in. I came in to do a walk in xray. When entering imaging department on the ground floor of the hospital. There was patients before me who were a different nationality and was help very nice calm and calm. When I entered right behind the employee who name is Cheryl/Sheryl who worked in xray register. Which I received the name from the Supervisor of the Clerk not sure what the difference in department was her name was Fiona. Once entering I was not greeted with such niceness and calmness. I was ask what are you here for in a tone that seemed disgusted at the fact I was there very short and not welcoming at all. I know as a Healthcare worker in my on Leadership field I treat all patient with the upmost respect and kindness. I had a name tag which said my name plus u was wearing a hand brace. The proper way to approach me would have been how can I help or you here for xray or even a greeting. Than she proceeded after me telling her why I'm here to seat and take a seat which o was going to do. Due to the patients in front of me being told the steps when checking in. No patients should ever be treated with such rudeness and short and non compassion for them. She also ask was I here fir xray again and I Informed her that she was rude, she stated she wasn't. But I told her I will speak with the supervisor about this experience. Which Fiona in imaging was Informed but not the employee direct supervision. I also whiched out to patient engagement called and spoke with Nicole. Who helped I do want to thank Lori the X-ray Tech who was very nice and my experience was excellent with her for taking pictures of my hand. I will also let my provider know of this experience because anyone should not have to feel like I felt and I how was treated no matter what color they are.

Negative experience: The front desk at the urology department is incompetent and overall everything is SLOW - you won't even see a doctor, but rather some nurse who can't even do any diagnostics at the site. They make a LOT of errors with imaging referrals (why do I even need to do imaging at another place? Useless. They're good only when it's time to charge for visits.) Urology issues require quick triaging, diagnostics and action but with these guys you might just say good bye to your kidney.

Fantastic experience: 11/30/14 I've been in the cardiovascular building at John Muir many times for different reasons, most recently, last night (Saturday). On the way into the building there are face masks and hand sanitizer. Inside, my husband and I stopped in the lobby to look at the prettily decorated Christmas tree and other decorations. The main front desk was empty but we were able to find a directional guide near the elevator and figure out which floor we needed. The second floor is home to the progressive care unit - where a patient may be moved after ER, but before a surgery. There is a large waiting room with a TV and many chairs, so your family and friends can come see you but not all crowd your private room at once. Outside of that waiting room is a front desk where I found two friendly girls sitting - happy to direct me to the room I was looking for. Many of the private rooms are very spacious - the one I saw last night had 6 people comfortable sitting in it - and only one patient. He had a private bathroom and it was set up very nicely. It's nice to know that your loved one is really being cared for. Outside of this patient's room there was another desk with three other staff people working and checking on patients. Everything was very clean (duh, it's a hospital). I really have only had good experiences here when talking with staff and patients. The cardiovascular unit is really nice - hopefully you won't ever have to visit someone being treated in there, but if you do, I'd trust that they are in good hands.

Fantastic experience: I walked right into the door, was directed to admissions immediately, and then a triage nurse. Then I sat in the waiting room for maybe 10 minutes, and I was already being called back to my room to get things started. Even though I was in a lot of pain, I started joking with my nurse (to help get my mind off the pain) and started joking right back. She helped make the whole ordeal much more tolerable. She even took her time to look for an IV vein because I have small, squiggly ones, especially when dehydrated. She got it in one shot. She is awesome and pretty pregnant. But great job. Oh, my ER Dr. was really good and thorough also. They had me taken care of and discharged within 4 hours. Fast.

Fantastic experience: Spent 7 hours waiting to get into a room and in-between tests I got to observe the non-stop overwhelming work our medical staff go through. In an environment that possess a health hazard to them and their families when they go home, not to mention staff and patients are in what is supposed to be a sterile or at least clean medical facility and it's filthy I got to come home but our medical staff spends most of their time working under chaos and filth. I totally gained a new perspective and respect for ER staff and appreciated all they do day in day out. I can only hope it gets better for them all. Will I return not if I can avoid it.

Fantastic experience: The below are whiners. Absolutely phenomenal service. They brought my high blood pressure down from stage 2 hypertension to a normal level. The staff are extremely caring and professional. Be kind to them and they will be kind back. If you rate this hospital weighing with one start because you had to wait to get service (which is based off severity) you need to re-evaluate life!

Negative experience: I have learned that John Muir in Concord is allowing their staff who are Covid positive to return to work after five days no matter if they are still testing positive. Where is the ethics in this hospital? That hospital IS NOT SAFE.

Carson Brown 3 years ago

Negative experience: Awful communication and direction by both doctors and support staff. Multiple days spent not knowing anything about condition or next steps. Straight up had a doctor lie about when a procedure would be performed. If the ambulance gives you any other option for a hospital take it. Avoid avoid avoid.

Negative experience: My mom was there recently. The room was shabby at best. Dirty, peeling surfaces (hard to disinfect). My mom’s feet swell and she needed to prop them up with pillows—nope, we don’t have any more. She needed to be walked, but there was no one available — for days. Yet when I tried to walk her (I brought her walker from home), that was also denied. COVID hygiene was not great — personnel continuously touching their masks, masks hanging below the nose, etc. And the number of “accidents” due to improper placement of the suction equipment. Then there were neighbors mumbling scripture, LITERALLY 24/7, for days. Maybe they were trying to cram every word of the Bible into her head before she shuffled off, but after 15 minutes of hearing that, I seriously wanted to injure someone. The nurse said that was NOT ok (the mumbling, not my homicidal tendencies), but didn’t do anything about it. Anyway, lots and lots more, but that should give you a taste.

Negative experience: My sister Leigh was brought in today 1/13/22 at 3:30pm by ambulance due to severe pain and was rudely treated with disdain and ambivalence by nurse Tina. God help anyone really sick who might have Tina as their nurse. She decided repeatedly scolding my sister was a good way to handle her in her time of crisis. Once Leigh was admitted she received excellent care- and had successful gallbladder surgery. I am trying to reach someone, anyone in their Patient Experience Dept but have been disconnected by full voicemail messages. The last one was an out bound “out of office” voicemail during which “Nicole” states she’s out from July thru September!! It’s January- who is monitoring the department that is tasked with monitoring the patient experience for Concord’s John Muir hospital? These are hard times but it appears no one is driving the bus at this facility.

Negative experience: This is in regards to my husband who was hospitalized last December. He had massive stroke in 2017 and he need total care. He was starving for almost two weeks. He asked for food but no one assisted him with feeding. He just received IV fluids. He went to the hospital at 122 lbs., and after he's been discharged from the hospital he only weighed 111lbs. He did not get the care he needed help with. They just ignored him because doesn't have a voice to speak up. When he got back from the hospital, he was afraid they will go after him.The elderly need fair care. Our insurance makes sure that they don't get neglected while they are being cared for. They shouldn't be traumatized and mistreated when they need care. They should not be ignored. They need TLC! Ester J.

Negative experience: I'm a medical professional myself, so it disappoints me that I even have to post a negative review for a hospital that I have appreciated working with for so many years. I visited the ER in August 2021 for what I believed was kidney stones. I discussed with the ER doctor that the best option was to perform a CT scan to determine the quantity and size of the stones I was dealing with. We agreed that that would be our first step, and that we would wait till we get those results back before we proceeded with any other testing. Will the results came back that I had three kidney stones. Luckily they were all very small. It was nothing more we could really do so I was discharged with some pain medication and another medicine to help flush them out. About 3 weeks later I received the bill from John Muir where they had charged me almost $3,000 in diagnostic tests that were not needed. Today is October 2022. I have been disputing this with customer service, the business office, with complex customer care, and anyone that would listen to me. I have written letters, I have written emails, and the entire time I have been very clear that I am willing to pay the portion of the bill for the charges that I had agreed to on the date of service. Nobody has taken the side of the patient in the situation. I've asked to speak to my doctor dozens of times. They've never been able to allow me to speak to him. The hospital's position is that anytime you go to the ER, you sign a waiver that allows them to perform any tests that they feel are necessary to determine your diagnosis. So because of that, the ER being the cash money making machine that it is, ran a number of tests that were completely worthless just for the mirror fact of squeezing more money out of my insurance company. Frankly, I think it's a crime and it goes against everything that I believe and stand for in the health care industry. A word of caution to patience as they go to the ER . . . . . Read and understand everything that you are signing. Make sure that you have very specific conversations with your doctor about what they are doing. Make sure that you are very clear about things that you approve and about things that you do not approve. Make sure things that happen in those discussions are written clearly into the patient chart. And lastly, if there's any way to avoid it, avoid the ER. Go to urgent care. Try a third party outpatient clinic. Go anywhere but the ER. The ER is a powerful revenue generating arm of the hospital. Once you walk into those doors, they own you as a patient and they can do almost anything they want to you under the disguise of good patient care. Luckily for me, I have good insurance. I feel bad for people who come in with subpar insurance and get screwed and then financially squeezed by the emergency room. It's pretty disgusting. But it's our health care system. Even me, I will think twice the next time before I ever step foot into the ER.

Positive experience: I broke my wrist and they helped me out immediately. I was given ice and a sling while I waited. I was seen quickly and had a splint put on. My orthopedic surgeon said the splint was well done. Only problem I had was trying to get a referral to see an orthopedic surgeon, but that was my insurance company's fault.

Fantastic experience: I had an ablation done on July 2, 2021. I cannot say enough about my Dr. Carlton Nibley & the entire medical staff at John Muir Health Center. Medical staff who were assigned to care for me were outstanding, professional, tentative, caring & upbeat, quick to respond to my needs. Thank you everyone, you’re the best

Fantastic experience: I guess it's a hospital so either your experience was terrible or great. In mine it was great, people were friendly and guided me to where I needed to go. The place looked clean.

Positive experience: The level of human is so and both. Meaning we're all getting older and Concord CA is are these times, the Best of times and the worst of times. I do love appreciate and admire clean and maintained infrastructure. It's a fine line, to define perspective.

Negative experience: This is the most worst hospital I've ever been to three times in a row I have left because of how horrible their service is. The doctors are standing outside the room chit-chatting for like an hour talking about this that in the next thing when they should be helping patients is I mean isn't that what their break is for very unprofessional when you got people that aren't paid in really need help I will never go to this place to get him as I absolutely have to horrible horrible experience and it's the third time it happened

Negative experience: Went to the ER because I fell during a seizure. My hand was throbbing . The doctor just used her fingers and felt around my hand and summarily said it’s not broken. No x- ray. It is. In fact, I have a rare fracture and need surgery. Nice job.

Negative experience: This Facility is using the Covid crisis as a means to limit visitors to it's patients. It is not a matter of whether a visitor is vaccinated or not-John Muir is ONLY allowing ONE visitor per patient for the duration of the patients stay. So much for the vaccinated Family wanting to see Grandma one more time before she goes to Heaven! This policy is just a lousy excuse to limit the amopunt of work the Staff at John Muir has to do! It negates the entire idea of sharing families all under the guise of Covid. Vaccinated visitation should not be restricted!!! The emotional health of John Muirs patients or should we say CLIENTS is as much a part of treatment as any other physical type. It is being ignored for the sake of the Administration!

Negative experience: i was in the behavior heath in the acorn unit. extremely mediocre help. it was more fun than it was helpful, most of the staff were nice but we had one staff tell us that he didnt think any of us were actually depressed and that we didnt need to be medicated. it was very safe but not helpful. one thing a lot of people didn't like was that they made us say why we were there. all this place really helped me with was not killing myself for the time being. i was hospitalized again after this. the two stars were fore the food because it was bussin bussin. if you have a choice, you don't wanna go here.

Negative experience: I'm not a patient there, but my dad is. He has recieved subpar care from the moment of arrival. He has serious GI issues and since he is medi-cal, he is treated like scum. The doctor told me that he needs to have some testing done, but it's too costly for medi-cal patients and that those test could be done out-patient at a later time. But he needs a diagnosis still, so those tests could produce the answers. Bottom line, go elsewhere if you're a medi-cal patient.

Negative experience: My wife went to this Hospital with serious pain and Stomachache, first of all They checked if it was a COVID and they left her in one alone room. My wife was crying because it was so painful. After many hours they came back to her and said to her that It wasn't COVID and they said to her that it was nothing. I believe that doctors has a superpower or they are mystics because without any exams they said it. They didn't request a exam and with a magic they knew what it was happening with my wife. they just gave a nausea pill and ibuprofen prescription. It was crazy and horrible, everything there is horrible. After we left this place we went to Martinez Health Center Hospital, I can say it was the best place, super nice people and staffs. After a lot of exams that the John Muir didn't do it, They took care about my wife and solve her health problem, we I definitively recommend Martinez Health Center Hospital. If you have options to go to other Hospital, don't think and go, because this John Muir Hospital is horrible.

Negative experience: I was so weak and dizzy , ambulance brought me to the Emergency around 11:30 am . I was being assist by 2 nurses . They took some blood test on me and I stayed in the room for couple of hours . Then , I need to use restroom and I asked nurse help , she took out equipments attached on my body and left without even asking if I can go to restroom alone . I remained seated because I felt dizzy and scared to walk , then I asked again the same nurse named Crystal the nurse with eye glass , I told her if she can help me walked to the restroom , but she said no I can’t accompany you and I will just get you a commode . I’ve waited 30 mins , an hour but no commode no assistance . She seems she just ignored me or forgot . I was really not feeling good , thanks God a very nice guy EKG Technician named ERIC came to do EKG on me and he asked me if I’m ok . I said no , I really need to go to the restroom and he voluntarily accompany me going to the restroom . I said I know it’s not his job description but yet he indeed helped me without any hesitation . He said we care for our patients . Also no one even bothered to give me a blanket , one lady from registered told me she will ask for a blanket but she also forgot and never give me one and Eric noticed I was cold , so he gave me a hot blanket that makes me comfortable . I was discharged , a male nurse helped me and his also nice . But that lady nurse looked at me with an attitude. People go to ER because we are all sick , just give us nice consideration , comfort , let us feel were being taking care of and not making us upset and don’t let us feel humiliated , helped sincerely , respect each patient needs .

Negative experience: Have an emergency? Do not come to this place. Worse experience ever. I came in with a child with an opening on his forehead, I waited for 2 hours and nothing. I asked for help when he started bleeding again and the nurse calmly said “I do not have beds available,” I told her I’ve been waiting for 2 hours and she said “so has everybody else.” The worse experience ever at a hospital. The lady at the front desk, Monday 8/23 at 10:50pm, when I asked for help she gave me such an attitude telling me to wait. I told her, “don’t give me such an attitude because I do not need that right now.” i complained to security how b*tchy the receptionist was and she apologized for it. Anyway, I left the hospital without getting any help and went to another hospital that would help us. Do not come here, please, do yourself a favor.

Negative experience: Basically killed my father. He was admitted for severe vertigo (never solved); fell out of bed when a newbie nurse refused to put up one of the sides of his bed; had a rare kind of stroke on the 3rd or 4th day; had a foley catheter inserted while he was asleep which he subsequently ripped out in confusion because they were too short staffed to help him with his urinal (gave him a UTI); aspirated while eating which became a lung infection; and then slowly starved because they didn't provide the 1:1 feeding needed. After nearly three torturous weeks, they shoved him out the door to die at home in order to make room for a surge of covid patients.

Fantastic experience: Prices are insane but that’s more of a systemic problem, not a John Muir one. The doctors and nurses here are amazing. The ER is not somewhere you want to end up, but if you do - you’re in good hands here.

Negative experience: I came into the emergency room suffering flu like symptoms and asthma. I was not even offered a blanket. The doctor was also very rude. My BP was 200 over something and he didn't even address it I guess I wasn't sick enough for them.

Negative experience: I hope the reviewer can understand i have been treat, throughout my parents and me situation at Concord hospital. My parents can't speak English very well. My mom have surgery this morning before 5AM on 10/16/2020 and we tried to check in at emergency cus the main building open at 5AM automatically. So we have to check in at emergency. There's security who is American don't let us check in and kick us out with discriminate body look, (we bring the virus and language.) Afternoon around 2:30 PM is the same , the security name SANIA did the same thing , they let them in with nice attitude with there own people and the booth did the same too, (ESPECIALLY LATINO AND AMERICAN). Beside that we are waiting for surgery room, I AM SO DAME SURPRISE THEY DIDN'T WEARING GLOVE TO GIVE PATIENT MEDICINE ETC... which is DIRTY DIRTY even in MAIN LOBBY. They post the sign keep maintain the distance but they didn't, they gathering and keep talking between 3:00-3:23PM. The nurse should call us after surgery but they ignore it and only the doctor did. Sound like we have been DISCRIMINATE BEING CHINESE,. so HEARTLESS SOUND LIKE WE HAVE VIRUS. Compare in Walnut Creek John Muir there's nothing like that. They're more nicer and professional. NOTHING LIKE THEM. That's why i give them poor star not even have a star. I hope they can fix the issue sooner otherwise there's no peaceful only DISCRIMINATE and HATRED.

Negative experience: I recently spent 4 days over NY at JMH and three additional outpatient visits relating to a liver obstruction. I found the experience including personnel, information, and procedures shockingly poor in several instances. On NY eve they attempted a procedure which didn't work, but they could not perform the alternative procedure the next day because all of the Drs were let off for NY Day. but they would not let me leave so I spent NY eve and NY day in the hospital with no care, information or anything to do when I could have gone home. the following day I had the alternative procedure. the dr only spoke to me just before and after the procedure. no checkups, visits, calls or details. the nurses could not answer a single question I asked about what was happening. I was told to continue the alternative treatment for "one to two weeks" and then make an outpatient appt to reverse part of the procedure. while being discharged they put all my clothes and belongings in a plastic bag and had me sign a form I had received my belongings. when I got home, I realised my medications which they had taken away and stored in their pharmacy, were not with my belongings. I called to tell them and asked if they would send someone to return them since it was their error. A very surly nurse snapped "you signed the form saying you got your belongings didn't you?" so it was all my fault and I had to drive back to the hospital to pick them up. I asked the nurse what was the difference between one and two weeks clinically as I wanted to get it done asap. she told me it had to do with when the drainage stopped from the external drain. This proved to be completely false, as normal drainage would continue indefinitely. it turned out the "one to two weeks" had more to do with the dr schedule and being away for a conference, so it was scheduled for more than two weeks later. I arrived for that appt where the procedure was internalised and the drainage bag removed but the line left in and capped off. I was told this was because I needed a week's script of vit K to normalize my clotting factors.then to go to the lab for a vit K value and make an appt to have the external line removed. The report they gave me of the procedure and followup correctly described the procedure and the vit K regimen, but the follow up read "make appt at Drs office in 2-3 weeks to discuss biopsy results". This was totally someone else's followup lifted to my report not mine. there was no biopsy or appt at dr office. it should have read "make out patient appt to remove external line". I found that to be a shocking error, but I did make the appt and called to ask if I would be under anaesthesia and was told yes. so I was in the OR being prepped, with 4 nurses who couldn't decide if I was to be on my side or my back ,and then I asked again about the anaesthesia and one nurse said "oh no, no anaesthesia; he will just pull the line out". another nurse said "I think he is going to do an endoscopy which would require anaesthesia". the four argued back and forth as I'm lying there for the procedure and they didn't 'even know what was being done. they finally went to find the dr who said yes it would be anaesthesia. I finally had the procedure and left after recovery. The reason I called ahead about the anaesthesia was that they require a driver to pick you up and I said I really didn't have anyone so what happens if I don't have a driver. She snapped in a rude tone "then you can't have the procedure". nothing about how to find a solution, just a smart comment. really it seemed no one knew what was going on or how to answer my questions and if they did they were usually wrong. This is not to say all of the nurses were unpleasant; some were very nice, or that the dr didnt' perform admirably; it's just that they never checked in on me or explained things. I don't think I am overreacting but in comparison to UCSF for example, this was a very unsatisfactory experience and it was just shocking the lack of knowledge and inaccurate medical notes.

Fantastic experience: Drove myself to ER believing that my left side pain was caused by kidney stones. Arrived at ER (clean), the security guard, registrant, the nurse and the rest of the staff that took care of me was excellent. I read all the reviews but it did not stop me from coming to this ER. Thank You.

They need to be SHUT DOWN

Negative experience: Extremely disappointed in the lack of cleanliness in the public restrooms at both hospitals. Walnut Creek and Concord Campus. Specifically, the womens restroom on the first floor nearest the surgical waiting area. After me and a staffer complaining to housekeeping about the unsanitary condtions it took 4 hours and another follow-up call before a janitor came to mop up pee in the handicap stall. The entire floor/corners coving is filthy! As are the walls near the sink area. The faucets have scum and stain build-up on them, toilet rim "long time no not wiped. The same filth was observed at the Concord hospital West 4th floor women restroom. Don't these hospitals have janitors throughout the day clean public facilities. Then lets talk about the hospital in-patient areas!!!someone needs to get on this...no wonder infection rates and hospital acquired illnesses are on the rise! I have pictures if anyone cares to see them. On a side note, Why does the Concord Campus let the homeless sleep in the benches outside the emergency room main door? This wouldn't happen in Walnut Creek. Why is there valet parking at the Walnut Creek hospital and not Concord campus?

Negative experience: My wife has been to the ER 3 times in one week for uncontrollable vomiting. She couldn't keep any food or fluid down, as well as meds. Each time she was in the ER, she was sent home only to be brought back a day or two later for the same issue. You would think that someone who cannot keep anything down due to vomiting would be a concern to the ER, and they would want to at least admit to get to the root of the problem. We have seen the following Dr's here: Dr.Krull, Dr. Patel and now Dr. Romeiser. It seems that the staff here do not take vomiting seriously and that the Dr's here should have their medical licenses taken away. They would rather send a patient home to suffer and not to care if the patient can eat or drink.
