Spine & Sport Physical Therapy - Point Loma, San Diego: Reviews
Positive experience: Hopefully just a fluke… I don’t recall being given any heads up that the unit had changed location or that the aircon wasn’t working when I came in for my first appointment. Without markings on the door, someone blocking it moving stuff in, etc., I got lost for 10 minutes both times I went in. Not a good look but not the end of the world. What did upset me was PT Vicky interrupting me mid-sentence when I was trying to apologize after getting there 10 minutes late because of it. It was odd to me that someone showing me how to use machines and do exercises was wearing slip-on office shoes but maybe that’s normal? Also not the biggest deal. What did upset me was not being watched and/or my form corrected for the majority of the first session. Isn’t that supposed to happen? I only have experience with trainers and thought it would be even more important for PT. Paying attention to whatever she was doing on her laptop for the majority of the time, there was a few minutes where she was faced away from me and at one point took off to go into another room without saying anything until I went to look for her after being done for a bit from the exercise I had been on. Formal and going through the motions with recited speeches rubs me the wrong way. Hopefully it was a fluke due to my not giving off the best energy (didn’t feel good thanks to autoimmune disorder acting up) but I’m a personable person. Authenticity and connection are important. Trying to speak with her on the phone about it for a moment a few days later, the conversation immediately felt like excuses with enough defensiveness to give me the impression that it wasn’t going to be a constructive conversation. Can’t win ‘em all.????????♀️
Fantastic experience: I have been to at least 10 Physical Therapy offices over the last 7 years, until now, at Spine and Sport, Pt. Loma, I had never had any improvements. The quality of their leadership, their staff expertise, their true understanding of my physical limitations is second to none! I can't possibly say enough good things about this clinic, and the professionals working here. Starting with Shane at reception, to Matt the overall director, and therapist... to Levi, who was doing a type of internship, Ashley, Matt, Ryan...all of them are so helpful, professional, friendly, and most of all effective at helping all people in their care! 5+++ stars!
Fantastic experience: Matt and Katie were professional and always challenged me to push myself harder. I suffered with lower back pain so bad that I couldn't sit or bend when I walked into their office, and now I'm back to my regular routine and work schedule with no pain. They always kept a close eye on my form, and made sure I was doing the exercises safely and properly. They are also great listeners. I will be referring anyone I know who needs physical therapy in the future!
Fantastic experience: Matt and Katie were fantastic! I was a couple months into recovering from a bad ankle sprain that was keeping me out of the water (and therefore making me a miserable bum) when I started my appointments with Matt and Katie. After aggressively pursuing the prescribed exercises, I am surfing a lot without pain and my ankle is nearly 100%. As a very active person, I really appreciated an active course of treatment that was designed to be preventative. I did a lot more work on my hips than I expected, but as a result, all of my lower joints feel more stable because I had an imbalance that we addressed. What's more, in addition to being super knowledgeable, they are also a lot of fun to hang out with. 5/5, 10/10, etc. Thanks, team!!
Fantastic experience: I had a really bad episode of sciatica and my doctor referred me here. I wound up getting my referral renewed 3 times. My progress was incredible. The staff are friendly and VERY knowledgeable. Mathew has a good eye for detail and makes sure he pushes you as far as you can go, but not enough to hurt yourself. I have never been a gym kinda guy, but now that I can't get insurance to sprong for another round, I will be signing up at a gym and it is all because of the great experience at Spine & Sport. Thanks guys!
