Your Spin Doctor: Physical Therapy & Consulting, PC: Reviews
Fantastic experience: As someone who was recently diagnosed with HEDS, I came to John with a host of physical and neurological issues, many stemming from cervical instability (vertigo, migraines, muscle spasms/pain) and nervous system disfunction (brain fog, fatigue, POTS). John is EXTREMELY knowledgeable on these fronts. I've been to physical therapists in the past, but they didn't fully understand my struggles and how everything I faced were connected. John did. Even just after the first week when he coached me through fundamental breathing/movement mechanisms, my pain and symptoms started decreasing. From there, I worked with John for ~5 more months, which were critical in my recovery. PT works. Working with John taught me effective ways to manage my chronic illness. He is also so friendly and bothered to know me on a personal level. He even let me bring my dog in! Now, I am back in the gym, lifting weights, enjoying movement, dancing, and running for fun. So grateful and blessed to have worked with him.
Fantastic experience: PT John was very helpful. I have a seen a lot of PT's in my day and John was by far the most intentional and knowledgeable about my issue and how to fix it. I am definitely planning on seeing John again if it have issues running again!
Fantastic experience: John is a legend. Got me tuned up from a few hamstring strains. Helped me get a Boston Marathon qualifying time! Thanks so much my dude!
Fantastic experience: Dr. John is the best doctor I worked with throughout dealing with my injury. He is a great hang and extremely knowledgeable to the point that I was 100% confident in the rehab he prescribed for me. He got me back to climbing significantly faster than I expected after a severe ankle injury. He even opened up a line of communication for me to ask questions throughout the process, which made me feel cared for and not like just another patient. Go see him, you won’t regret it.
Fantastic experience: John is awesome. You will not regret working with him.
Fantastic experience: I have worked with John on a couple of occasions. He does very good work. This time, I went to him with a shoulder problem. I have now been performing the exercises he recommended for several weeks. The pain has decreased significantly and I am getting to where I can finally workout and study my martial arts like I usually do. He does very good work.

Fantastic experience: Knowledge and personalized treatment. I definitely recommend Dr John if you are looking for quality care.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience DJ! It was a pleasure working with you and getting you back to climbing stronger!
Fantastic experience: John is the best PT I've ever had, and I will strongly recommend him to anyone dealing with sports injuries of any type. After 2 years of living an extremely sedentary life during the pandemic, I tried returning to rec sports 3-4 times a week, and ended up plagued by hamstring strains and pulls. These continued for 4 months while I saw other physical therapists. When I started seeing John, I was immediately impressed by his wholistic approach, and within 2 months I was back on the field feeling like my old self. Now it's 6 months later and I still haven't had any issues with my hamstring. John has also helped me see progress with mobility issues that I've dealt with for the last decade, and I truly believe that he can help me with any sports-related injury I may get in the future. Plus he's one of the coolest guys around and always has a dope playlist ready to share
Fantastic experience: Dr. Huang has helped tremendously getting me feeling better. I had been having lower back (herniated disc) and sciatic issues when I was referred to him by my chiropractor. John was able to help identify the root cause of my issues and through lots of hard work on strengthening my core, I am back to playing golf and enjoying a much better quality of life. I would highly recommend Dr. Huang!
Fantastic experience: It was great working with Dr John! Every session was always very informative and I felt like I could noticeable see and feel the progress each session! He was very easy to work with and talk to which made sessions more valuable to me. I had come looking for answers to rock climbing specific issues that had been impossible to figure out through all the free resources on the web and thankfully he was able to help me narrow it down and help me understand the root issue. I am now greatly, if not fully, improved and my confidence is back to near 100%! I’m excited to continue to use what I’ve learned to keep improving and live pain free! I highly recommend Dr John!
Fantastic experience: I first came to Dr. John for some finger pain due to climbing. He was able to easily diagnose the issue and put me on a finger rehab plan. After a couple weeks, fingers were good and I was back to climbing. Since then I've been back to Dr. John for knee pain, wrist pain and anything that pops up. I highly recommend Dr. John.
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Dr. John. He is a great listener and gives practical advice that is easy to follow. I recently took my step dad, Jack, in for a visit with Dr. John. Jack was worried about his knees. They were weak and he was afraid that exercising them would make it worse. To compensate he was walking hunched over and dragging his feet. Dr. John really listened to Jack's concerns (I was there eavesdropping =) Then, he had Jack walk for him the way he normally does. Dr. John saw the problem and gave Jack a very through explanation of what was happening and why. He had him walk using his heal first and practice it a few times, which made a huge difference. Then, he gave Jack exercises to do at home to strengthen his knees. Jack came home feeling so confident about what to do to get better and was no longer afraid of doing the wrong thing. I was THRILLED to see him walking heal first and standing up strait. This will be a game changer for his posture and mobility in the future. Thank you so much Dr. John!!
Fantastic experience: I have nothing but amazing things to say about John. He takes a very holistic approach to physical therapy and continues to work with you towards your goals even after your session is complete. He helped train my body to use and engage different muscles to alleviate the problem area pain. On top of being a great PT, John is a great person overall and I am happy to recommend him to everyone I know!
Fantastic experience: I've worked with John now for over a year to address chronic knee and lower back pain. John is very knowledgeable and fun to work with, and also has a great network of experts that he often will refer you to. Overall, I made tremendous improvement and a lot of it is thanks to John.
Fantastic experience: I really appreciate what you’ve done for me, Dr. John, especially when I was in so much knee and leg pain. I was afraid to move my knee around and was walking in a hunched manner. There was stiffness in my calves from underuse. I couldn’t get an appointment to see an orthopedic for a month. My trainer suggested making an appointment with you. It made all the difference. With your help, I was able to rehabilitate a lot faster. I appreciate that you kept me moving from the start. I could walk with good posture and the exercises built my surrounding muscles. Thank you so very much!
Fantastic experience: I've attended multiple PT facilities due to prior injuries, and Dr. John Huang's practice is easily miles above all others I have been to. His knowledge of anatomy and how the body should move to prevent injury and maximize performance is vast. I first came to Dr. John a few months ago with a lower back injury from squatting. Within the first session, he was able to identify the core issues that contributed to my injury. He gave me the first few exercises that I needed to get my body to adapt to functioning in a way that is more optimal and relieve the stress I was putting on my lower back. Over the next few months, we met a few more times and each session I learned more about how I can adapt my training to prevent injury and optimize performance. At other PT facilities, it is common for them to take a one-size-fit-all approach which led to me not seeing results and feeling frustrated. From the beginning, Dr. John was serious about understanding my goals, developing a plan to meet those goals, and ensuring that I'm well informed along the way. I highly recommend Dr. John as he helped immensely with my fitness journey.
Fantastic experience: Working with John has been a game changer for me. Recently I have been dealing with lower back pain to the point that I had to stop doing the sports I love, motorcycles, mountain biking and running and hiking. John listened and then spent the time needed to identify what was going on and then educated me what I needed to do to strengthen the right group of muscles and break the cycle of reinjuring. For me this is a daily routine of the right stretching and exercises. Now I am back to doing the sports I love. Thank You John.
Fantastic experience: I am someone who has chronic back pain that adversely affects my everyday activities. I've tried a Chiropractor, acupuncture, and have even gotten multiple epidurals and could not find a long lasting solution. I didn't know where to go for help so my Pilates instructor, Jillian, recommended that I try physical therapy and refered me to Dr. Huang. It started with a simple telehealth call in which I described my symptoms and issues. He asked targeted questions and in very little time, Dr. Huang was able to understand what might be wrong with my back and was even able to offer up potential solutions and game plans. This interaction reassured me that he was knowledgeable and really wanted to help. Since I had been doing Pilates for a while, Dr. Huang was able to collaborate with my instructor to obtain more complex details on my back issues. We did our first physical evaluation in conjunction with one of my Pilates classes and our first in home session was one week later. Dr. Huang has been very accommodating to my busy schedule and has given me a weekly exercise routine that has improved my overall back health. He has even given me special pointers that include adjusting my work space to be more ergonomically friendly and showing me how I can use the items/spaces in my home to help with my daily exercises. My experience with Dr. Huang has been life changing. At the end of each session I am left feeling more and more confident about my back strength. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that there are still some tough days. But the tools that Dr. Huang has given me make those harder days a bit easier and has given me confidence that I am on the road to being pain free.
Fantastic experience: After suffering some discomfort during training for triathlons, I reached out to some close Physical Therapist friends of mine to ask who they recommend, almost instantly they recommended John Huang, as they thought John’s approach would be best for me. From the beginning inquiry and throughout my physical therapy sessions with John, he has always been quick to respond to emails or text messages and always had a positive attitude when discussing my pains, questions, and general concerns. John’s hands on approach was something I had not quite experienced from a PT before, John’s approach was not just about fixing the issue, but also providing me the education, knowledge, and exercises that I could do on my own to stay healthy. I signed up for eight sessions with John, but following his instructions I saw vast improvements in my pain within a short time, even completing my IRONMAN Triathlon just six sessions in. Equally as important as treating my physical pains, John also put my mind at ease, giving me confidence that I could continue with my training while still focusing on my injury and injury prevention.
Your words are much appreciated Steven! Glad we have been able to make so much progress and getting you in optimal performance shape for your races. Looking forward to helping you crush your PRs
Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough about Dr. Huang! On the first consultation I had a very clear understanding of my injury as well as a set program to start on immediately. Dr. Huangs ability to communicate and create a fresh welcoming environment with out feeling sterile made me feel more at ease and comfortable than I have ever been with any Chiropractor or PT. I was pleasantly surprised when he followed up with me to see how I was doing in between our appointments. IN a very short time my injuries were healed and I was back to my normal fitness routine!
Thank you so much for your review, Dulcie! It's been such a pleasure working with you and I look forward to seeing you reach your climbing goals!
Fantastic experience: Ahh finally some relief! Feels so good to be moving again free of pain! I have been struggling with hip pain the past couple of years. So grateful that the universe blessed me with Dr. John. I have had a stellar experience with him right from the start. He was very thorough during the initial evaluation, was empathetic in understanding my experiences and concerns, and collaboratively we developed a treatment plan to address my core issues so that I could meet my goals of being able to run and hike again without any pain + discomfort. His professionalism and expertise are bar none, he is a down to earth person, is wise beyond his years (really learned a lot by spending time with him!). Also, the entire time, it was clear that he was genuinely invested in my health and getting me closer and closer to my goals. If you’re looking for a doctor of physical therapy to help you heal and start moving again free of pain, then contact Dr. John for a consultation. I promise you won’t regret it!
I really appreciate all the kind words, Jerry! It's been a pleasure working with you and helping you meet your goals!
Fantastic experience: Thank you Dr. Huang! I experienced a strain in my low back. Your expertise and showing me proper form, technique got me not just on the mend but even better than before the injury. Thank you for your guidance, and support!
Thanks so much for your review, Bridgett! It's been a pleasure working with you and glad you are getting back to moving stronger than ever :)
Fantastic experience: John really knows his stuff. His breadth of knowledge in orthopedics in general and climbing specific PT/Training is extensive. He’s helped me immensely not only in staying injury free, but also with maximizing my climbing training. His passion for what he does, his commitment to excellence, and his dedication to his clients is plain to see. He is always happy to answer any questions I have and to give me advice, and is extremely thorough. I look forward to continuing to work with him and would highly recommend him!
Thank you so much for your kind words Stacey! Your dedication to climbing health and movement science will continue to serve you well as a future PT! Looking forward to all your success on and off the wall
Fantastic experience: After a recent trip to DC, I returned home with an injured achilles (all the walking!) I figured it was something that would go away on its own with a little elevation and ice. Two weeks of painfully walking, hobbling up stairs, and missed workouts, I finally scheduled a telehealth session with Dr. John Huang. I wish would've done it sooner! I'm pretty big advocate for physical therapy but was skeptical about telehealth. Turns out, if you find the right physical therapist, the outcome will be phenomenal regardless of method of delivery. I felt relief immediately and was back to full function within two days. Dr. John is obviously an expert at his craft but is also extremely skilled at patient education and communication. My first patient experience with Dr. John was absolute magic!
Thank you so much for your review Mandy! So glad I was able to help you move your best
Fantastic experience: I have worked with Dr Huang for 3-4 months in attempts to heal a nagging finger injury and shoulder tendinitis. Dr Huang assessed my injuries and came up with a plan of attack to rehab the issues. The exercises at first didn't seem to do much, but after a while, I could tell that my posture had improved, and my fingers were slowly starting to feel a lot better. I had trusted the process, and now I don't even feel the issues that I had when I initially sought him out. Prior to seeing Dr Huang, I had gone to an orthopedist, and was prescribed PT with Coury and Buehler. I had done a few sessions with what seemed like the PT assistant who was also going between myself and a few other patients. The nice thing with Dr Huang's practice is that he dedicates the entire session to you and your rehabbing needs rather than switching around between patients and not fully understanding what is happening with you. I felt a lot more confident in his ability to treat my injuries than I did with Coury and Buehler simply because he was present, and he explained the cause of the issues in a scientific, concise and easy to understand manner. Additionally, Dr Huang was available for text and calls throughout the process outside of PT in case I had some questions regarding the assigned rehab exercises, or if I just needed some reassurance that the process was indeed working as planned. I am no longer seeing Dr Huang for PT because he has given me the knowledge and ability to better listen to my own body and be more aware of my limitations. Whenever I sustain another injury, or start to feel like something is about to get worse, I think of what he has taught me and it has yet to fail me. I am currently climbing better than I was prior to my injury and I'd like to think it is thanks to what Dr Huang has shown me.
I truly appreciate your testimonial, Marc! Thank you for hard work and consistency - I wish you the best and am here if you ever need me again!
Fantastic experience: Dr. John was incredibly helpful for my pulled muscle rehab over the last few weeks! He has clear explanations, straightforward exercises and kept me motivated through my workout routine. I appreciated how well he answered my questions and took the time to explain what the issues were through a software visualization tool. I would highly recommend Dr. John to anyone and will continue to see him if I run into any more challenges.
Fantastic experience: First and foremost, Dr. John is amazing. He doesn't dismiss what you say, and having a lot of experiences with doctors in general, most of them are not able to give you the time of day. Dr. John is definitely the opposite and is here to ensure his clients are well taken care of. I am a climber and love that he is as well because he really understands movement. I can tell him that I was repeating a boulder problem where I had to back step and hit the hold with a dead point move and he totally gets it. I unfortunately sustained a shoulder injury from climbing and continued to climb on my injury even though it hurt (my fault). I let it heal throughout the pandemic but it wasn't getting better so I knew I had to get professional help. I had also sprained my wrist which was affecting my shoulder significantly. I knew I needed to see a professional and contacted Dr. John! It's so nice that he works out of my local climbing gym. He educated me on the different muscles in my shoulder and gave me PT exercises for my shoulder and wrist. He uses a really cool app that shows you how-to videos and you are able to rate your pain/progress each day. No joke, within a week I felt a million times better. I went back for another appointment for another sprained ankle a few months later (he's a great guy to know when you are accident/injury prone). Being an athlete who can't perform due to injury is heartbreaking and I'm finally injury free now and Dr. John saved my shoulder.
Thanks so much for your kind words, Jackie - so happy to hear you are doing well and climbing hard!
Fantastic experience: Dr. John has been awesome in helping me rehabilitate from a nasty ankle sprain. Before meeting with him I felt completely in the dark about what was going on in my body and why my mobility didn't seem to be improving much months after my injury occured. He's been great about helping me better understand not only my injury but other muscle groups that had been weakened while I was in my initial recovery, and working with me towards more holistic strengthening. Every exercise he gives, he explains clearly what it's targeting, and he really takes time to ensure you're comfortable and able to do the exercises effectively at home. He's knowledgeable, responsive, and clearly loves what he does, and I've improved tremendously since meeting with him. Would highly recommend John!
Thanks so much for your kind words, Faith! It was great getting to know you and your husband and watching all your hard work pay off.
Fantastic experience: I was very relieved to find a physical therapist who is attuned to climbers. I have used physical therapy through my network, but they're not really set up to do sustained therapy. Also, even though clinically sound, my in network people had difficulty understanding the unique needs of our sport. John was a game-changer. I saw significant progress in treating my injuries for the first time in years. It was totally worth it. John knows how to ask the right questions and then tailor a program specifically for you. When I felt stalled, he adjusted the program and the results were immediate. I can't really say enough. He is a superb clinician and an outstanding person.
Thanks so much for the review, John! It's been a pleasure working with you and getting you back to climbing strong!
Fantastic experience: Dr. John is awesome. He has been helping me rehab from a broken leg and I feel much stronger since I have been working with him! He really listens to my complaints, and communicates with me to help me better understand what's going on with my body, and how to improve it. One of the most valuable aspects of the service he provides is that he caters my exercises to my activities, which are climbing and hiking. It's really important to me to have a PT that understands these activities and gives me the tools to improve my movement with this in mind.
Thanks so much for the kind words, Heather! It’s been a pleasure working with you so you can back to hiking and crushing those climbs!
Fantastic experience: I found John through the local climbing community and came to him with two goals in mind: 1) fix long-ignored plantar fasciitis so that I can run and 2) bring a sprained ankle back up to the peak performance that climbing requires. Regarding #1: I had been fighting PF for multiple years but never saw a professional because I had been trying the exercises recommended on the internet to no avail. I finally got fed up with my lack of improvement, started seeing John, and he very quickly was able to figure out what was causing my PF (immobility, lack of strength, and poor movement patterns) and we have been working on getting me back to running pain-free again. Regarding #2: I sprained my ankle half a year ago, saw an in-network provider who was able to help me get back to normal life, but I had remaining discomfort and weakness that was limiting my climbing (and approach hikes!). John's exercises have been very successful at getting me back to where I was before the injury, if not stronger than I"ve ever been. Thanks for your detailed and focused attention on me! I'm amazed at how much our sessions have helped! (And amazed at how you can always find new exercises to challenge me with).
Thanks for sharing your experience, Jennifer! It's been a pleasure working with you to get back to your goals!
Fantastic experience: Recommended! I've worked with different PT's to to help treat my shoulder injury. My experience with Dr. John was through his telehealth service from the comfort of my webcam. It was really easy to schedule an appointment and his vibe is very chill! He is both patient and knowledgeable when we meet and focuses on helping me better understand the mechanics around my shoulder. I really enjoy his philosophy paraphrased here, "If you have to keep seeing me then i'm not doing my job." He's great at keeping my personal fitness goals in mind and staying in touch with my progress. Perfect setup through telehealth to stay healthy as the world shifts!
Lucas! Thanks so much for the kind words. I hope you’ve been able to catch some pain free waves!
Fantastic experience: Very thankful to the Spin Doctor for all of his terrific work and care. He both understands what is needed for his clients, and also how to support them to be successful on their recovery. I very much recommend you see John! Can't thank him enough!
Thanks so much Alex! Happy to help you in your recovery and return to moving like a ninja!
Fantastic experience: Dr. John was a big help when I fractured my ankle. I needed a PT that understood the demands of rock climbing. Dr. John set me up with appropriate exercises through all the phases of PT. He was encouraging and friendly. This made our sessions something to look forward to each week. John also helped me with my wrist. I had chronic pain in my wrist whenever I would climb. The exercises that John gave me fixed the problem. It felt like a miracle and I was able to do things I hadn't been able to in years. Dr. John was also very informative and told you why to do certain exercises and how they would help. This helped me stay motivated and bought in through the healing process.
Thanks so much for your kind words Dan! So happy to see you crushing your climbs
Fantastic experience: I went to Dr. Huang for an issue with my knee, and he gave me a number of exercises over the course of several months that were very helpful! I also did some general wellness sessions with him as my knee improved. I felt that he listened to my concerns, and understood my fitness needs as climber. He is knowledgeable and personable, and I highly recommend his services!
Thanks so much Rachel! It’s been a pleasure working with you and wish you the best in your climbing endeavors

Fantastic experience: John is incredible knowledgeable and good at what he does. You can tell he really cares for his clients. I've been seeing him for almost a year now for two different injuries. One for tendonitis in my elbows from rock climbing and for another time when I dislocated my shoulder. I had to get surgery on my shoulder and he helped me every step of the way. From prehab to rehab. It's been 6 months now and I'm just about 100% recovered. Most of my recovery was done in quarantine and his help was critical for this process. Not only was I focused on rehabilitating my shoulder, I also had goals to lose weight while being handicapped with only one good arm. John set up telehealth meetings on Zoom and gave me a workout program I could follow which I still use to this day. You'll be getting more than just a physical therapist with John. He's an expert in diet and overall health. If you're reading this, John, thank you!!!
Thanks so much for your review Kenny! It’s been great getting to work with you throughout the healing process. Here’s to climbing smarter and harder!
Fantastic experience: Dr. John was very thorough in helping me diagnose my pain, and was able to give me a progression of exercises that helped me relieve that pain. His appointment times were very convenient, and he was able to accommodate me during the times that I needed. His sports massage services helped me through some of my toughest knots and my sorest muscles. He was super nice and very personable. I’d definitely go back to him after this crazy quarantine is over! These home workouts have been kicking my butt and I’m going to be looking for some sage advice from this guy.
It’s been a pleasure helping you get on track to continue crushing your goals, Minh! Thanks for sharing your experience
Fantastic experience: In a nutshell, after 40 years of climbing, I’ve found a PT that is willing and capable to deal with my seemingly intractable dysfunction of immobility. In my case, problems aren’t solely from one event or one chronic condition but a multitude of events and injuries during multiple training/performance episodes, indoors and outside. Climbing “fun” had been replaced with excessive tolerance and rare moments of enjoyment. About 4.5 years ago, I decided to “fix” this problem, not know what that entailed. I took it for granted that being flexible means not worrying about flexibility. After doing what I could do on my own, and working with an ART expert for 1.5 years, I had reached a point where the approach, though effective, wasn’t efficient (time wise, I’m getting older) nor economical. I needed a more nuanced and precise approach. Enter Dr. John. The onion that is my ever gradually increasing mobility has become a learning experience for both of us: me what not to do and how to avoid dysfunction, and John the levels of chronic dysfunction I wrecked on my body. Improvements have been remarkably quick given his ability to perform manual therapy extremely well, but most importantly, he has been able to effectively prioritize what needs to get done so I can get back to climbing and training to regain lost fitness and power.
Thanks for your review, Rob! It's been such a pleasure working with you. Feel free to reach out anytime.
Fantastic experience: I had such horrible lower back pain that I thought I could take care of myself by doing my own stretches that I thought were helping. Next thing I know its getting worse! Dr.John's telehealth was recommended to me by a friend with a similar problem and I am SO glad I decided to give it a try!! First of all Dr.John's bedside/phoneside manner was so encouraging and comfortable! His energy and professionalism made me feel safe and hopeful. He kept me well informed about WHY my body was hurting and HOW my body actually works. The patience he had in explaining the stretches and anatomy to me really helped me understand how to do things safely and correctly. It just clicked! Having that intentional one on one really made a difference that I could track and feel, which is amazing for someone like me who has had a lifetime of injuries from .muscle stiffness.
Thanks so much for the review Sera! Glad we were able to help resolve your back issues! Here for you if you need anything else
Fantastic experience: My experience with Dr. John has been nothing but positive. He genuinely cares about you as a person and listens to what you have to say. I have chronic back pain and read a book about back pain that piqued my curiosity. I asked Dr. John about it and he took it upon himself to read the book so he and I could discuss it. Wow. Instead of dismissing my uneducated thoughts, he respected me enough to acknowledge my queries. Going above and beyond. He is extremely knowledgeable and had my complete confidence in what care he prescribed for me. Currently I am taking a group fitness class via Zoom with Dr. John and it has been a huge positive for me, especially during this time of quarantine. Telehealth services are here to stay and I think it's amazing that we have the capability to provide care remotely. Dr. John is skilled in his field and will definitely help you attain your goals. He is patient, thorough, and kind. I highly recommend him for any of your wellness needs.
Thanks so much for your kind review Holly. It’s been a pleasure getting to know and work with you over the years. Keep it moving and tell the kids I say hi!
Fantastic experience: I’ve been to numerous physical therapists over the years. None of them have been climbers. None of them understood the body mechanics of a climber. While I was recovering from a broken talus bone, I was trolling a facebook climbing group and came across a comment Dr. John made to another person regarding her injury. He took a very unassuming approach and I liked that, so I reached out to him. When we met, I immediately felt at ease with Dr. John because he was a climber and I felt he was going to do whatever he could to get me back on the wall as soon as possible. There were many sessions when I met with Dr. John that I needed to be talked down off the ledge. I would come into his office and say, “But I’m not getting any better...I’m not making any progress." Then Dr. John would talk some sense into me: “You weren’t skiing last month. Didn’t you just come back from a skiing trip in Mammoth? You just started climbing outside again last week.” And then I’d say, “Oh yea, that’s true.” Dr. John helped me more than just physically. As athletes we really expect our bodies to bounce right back immediately as soon as we are out of the cast or a boot or right after surgery. But healing takes time. Dr. John really helped my mind, too, by reminding me that I was making progress and it actually wasn’t slow at all. I was just not operating at the fast pace that I was used to, yet. I highly recommend Dr. John.
Jo! thanks so much for your awesome review. I really enjoyed working with you and hope you are crushing your climbs in Bishop!
Fantastic experience: I won't lie, John is a friend of mine, BUT he is somebody who knows what he is doing. Last month I had CRIPPLING back pain (like could not fall asleep, and agonizing pain if I turned over (or even sat down). I thought it was something that required actual trips to a physician...instead, after talking with John, it was an issue with my hamstrings of all things. I ended up just needing to stretch them out for a couple days, and now I feel great. I apologize if this comes off as too testimonial like, but John is seriously an absolute champion when it comes to pinpointing issues, and making them so easy to fix (and keep them fixed). I SINCERELY RECOMMEND HIM
Mike! Thanks for the review! Happy to help a friend in need. I got your BACK.
Fantastic experience: Great for Rock climbing rehabilitation, and has worked with me entirely remotely with great success! I am very happy with everything I got from training together and would definitely return if needed in the future. Good bang for your buck if you are not covered for PT.
Grayson, thanks so much for your review. Hope you are doing well and climbing stronger!
Fantastic experience: After 17+ years of climbing, I had been suffering from some chronic climbing related injuries for years. When I came to the Climbing Clinic I had specifically been dealing with a shoulder injury and recovery from shoulder surgery over a year ago and also had issues with my hip. I had been through my fair share of run-of-the-mill physical therapy clinics offering cookie cutter approaches to therapy which always left me feeling like I was not getting the right program as a climber. The fact is, climbers are just different and have different needs in order to mitigate the impact of climbing on the body. The average person will respond fine to a basic program, but climbers need someone that understands the impacts of climbing on the body, the unique movements involved, and even the stubbornness in us to understand what’s going on with our bodies. John has been that person for me. I’ve been seeing John for several months now and I’m able to manage my pain and injuries much more effectively. We developed a program that works for me and also is constantly evolving. I’m realizing that therapy goes hand-in-hand with wellness for climbers and has to be an ongoing process for someone who has been climbing for as long as I have and has developed enough chronic issues. His graston work has been particularly helpful in alleviating muscles soreness and imbalance. I think for me though, the single most valuable aspect of seeing John has been his willingness to thoroughly explain the physiology of my body and how it relates to proper movement of joints and muscles. This really helps me to understand my limitations, what my goals need to be, and how different exercises or movement should feel. At other clinics I was lucky to get 10 minutes with the actual physical therapist and John gives you his one-on-one attention for the duration of your visit and then members also have access to John via messaging. His app for communicating to members is really useful as it means he’s essentially on call to answer any questions. I usually work out and climb in the evenings so I often think of questions to ask him while I’m being active and I can just shoot him a message and he typically responds the next morning. That’s pretty much unheard of in that industry. I highly recommend seeing John if you’re experiencing ANY level of discomfort. Don’t let the small injuries go unnoticed – they just turn into chronic ones later.
Thanks for your thorough review Mike! I am glad you have found a great fit in The Climbing Clinic and I hope to continue helping you keep doing what you love!
Fantastic experience: I came to Dr. John for chronic back/hip muscle tightness and pain. I have been to multiple PTs over the years that haven't been able to pinpoint my issue. I found Dr. John through yelp and just decided to give another PT a try. He provided a very comprehensive initial evaluation and really listened to what my issues were. I was surprised how quickly he was able to determine what he thought was causing my issues and developed a plan for me. Although its still a work in progress (due to years of bad habits, and wrong muscle activation), I have been able to feel better with time. There is no quick fix for physical injuries, or any type of pain, but if you are willing to put in the work and Dr. John, he is effective at communicating and listening to you and adjusting the program as needed.
Thanks so much for your review, Lauren! I am glad we are on the right track and you are seeing results!
Fantastic experience: I would definitely recommend giving Dr. Huang a visit if you’re having movement issues. He doesn’t just dive-in, he takes his time to understand how you are currently moving and uses his expertise to get you moving the way you, specifically, should be moving. From ART, Graston to bands and kettle bells, Dr. Huang is well worth a visit!
Thanks for your review Carl, it has been a pleasure helping you achieve your movement goals. I admire your lifelong dedication to personal health and wellness and am always here to keep you on the right track!
Fantastic experience: My experience working with John has been exceptional. I came to him with a chronic back pain issue that was keeping me from normal daily activities. He helped me understand a why the pain was occurring, and how my issue was related to a knee surgery that I had 20 years ago. As a result, I had developed some improper movments and body mechanics. In just 4 visits, I was seeing drastic improvements. My back pain has essentially disappeared. I'm really impressed with Dr. John's understanding of movement.
Thanks for your review Parc! I am so happy that we have been able to provide a solution to your back & knee issues. Your dedication to changing your movement pattern has been paying off! Great work :)
Fantastic experience: I must start by saying that Dr. John Huang is worth every penny you invest with him on your physical therapy. After dealing with a broken meniscus and other issue with my knee cap, I went to many different physical therapy places. By the time I got to John I was already a bit discouraged because I had not seen the progress I was expecting. However, Dr. John Huang was incredible! Very knowledgeable and helpful throughout the entire process. You can tell he is someone who takes his patients seriously and that he is professional and passionate about what he does. He is not only very talented but has a very sincere and genuine care for his patients. This is by far the best physical therapy place I've been to by far.
Thank you so much for the kind words, Pedro! I am so happy to hear about your positive experience working with me. Hope all is well :)
Fantastic experience: After a 3 month long climbing season I was experiencing some shoulder pain. It was enough discomfort to keep me awake at night. After a consultation with Dr. John and a series of treatments, not only were my symptoms nonexistent, but the root cause of my shoulder pain was addressed and now I have a solid handle on pain management and exercises to treat any flair ups that I may have. I can’t wait to get get hurt climbing again, so that I can visit with Dr John and learn from his expertise. :)
Thanks for the review, Caleb! I am glad your shoulder is doing much better. I hope you avoid future injury but I'm here if you need anything!
Fantastic experience: Dr. John Huang helped me to get back to doing the things I love and for that I'm so grateful! I went to him September - December of 2018 after having chronic knee pain post surgery, and the treatment exceeded my expectations in every way. The care was so specific to my needs and treated the root of the problem. I had so much 1:1 time with John, and each week he tweaked and changed my program to help me reach my goals. I have so much more mobility. He met me where I was at both physically and emotionally and made it fun. I genuinely looked forward to going - he even brought a SpikeBall net in for warm up as that was on my goals day 1 to get back to playing. I can't say enough good things about him and his treatment approach. It was a great experience. I will definitely recommend John to anyone in need of rehab or preventative care as I've gotten my active lifestyle back due in large to his help! Book an appointment NOW!
Thank you so much for your review Sara! It was such a pleasure working with you and I am so happy that I was able to be a part of reaching your goals! Spikeball game soon!
Fantastic experience: At the end of 2016 I began to start having symptoms of what turned out to be a form of tennis elbow/over use of the tendons in this area. Once it had seriously started affecting my physical activities I went in search of a solution. I watched multiple youtube videos on the subject and bought various tools to help with this very common and popular issue. I began to start seeing an acupuncture therapist as well for my discomfort. Unfortunately, neither one of these options brought positive results. Finally, I decided to try seeing a sports therapist which I initially held off from being that they are normally not the most inexpensive route. I took to Yelp which is where I discovered John. From the very first visit I could gain the reassurance I needed to know that I made the right decision in coming to see him. The treatment he prescribed was very easy to understand and could explain it to me with a very straight forward ease that gave me confidence in what I was doing on a regular basis. I am very happy to report that the issue I was dealing with in my elbow has decreased by almost a hundred percent. I have since gone back to him for help with other pain and discomfort I have experienced. I highly recommend seeing John for any physical problems you may be having and wholeheartedly say the financial investment has been worth every bit.
Thanks for your review, Levi! I am so glad that we were able to work together and get you back to doing the things you love. Keep moving forward and know that I am here if you need anything else!
Fantastic experience: John is the most thorough, skilled, and compassionate physical therapist I have ever worked with. The attentive one on one time he spent with me at each appointment left me feeling genuinely supported and cared for. He is deeply knowledgeable and patient, offering answers and ideas about all of my endless questions. John has an easy-going nature and is fun to engage with, which made the sessions a joy. What really set John apart were his bonus teachings about how mindset plays a large role in the healing experience. This information he shared transformed my surgical recovery by empowering me to work on my thoughts in addition to my physical injury. I also very much appreciated how John tailored each appointment to exactly how I was able to perform that day, encouraging me to push myself gently while also offering endless modifications until I found an approach that was comfortable. I always looked forward to trying new therapeutic exercises and pieces of equipment at my sessions, which made the appointments full and valuable rather than repetitive. I ended my time with John much more confident in how to work with my specific anatomy, respond to my pain, and exercise with proper alignment going forward. I highly recommend John to any person looking to improve their body function and performance!
Chelsea, thank you so much for your review. I am beyond happy to hear that you are doing well and that you have found so much value in the time we worked together! Glad to be a part of you getting back to doing the things you love!
