Rehabilitation Center of Des Moines

Negative experience: I only gave a star because you have to, to be able to leave a review. I'm not an outsider looking in, I've worked at this facility. The only 5 stars people should get in this place is the physical therapy team and only two handfuls of employees, and sometimes they over look things also. I've seen lots of thing's go on in this place. I've brought numerous discussions to the Administration witch is the number one person in charge of the place. It got over looked and everything got Swept under the rug, I then got fired. I then took it to state and she even swept it under the rug. In this time the State came in 3 times and nothing happened. I put my mother in this place for two reasons only, the physical therapy team and I got to go check on her any hour I needed to. I'm leaving this review because I believe I need to take this to the next level and talk to a lawyer. Saying this because I ran into a restaurant that lives their and was told state has been their two more times after they terminated my job, and is currently in their as of last week. Needless to say I believe every word, because I've seen it with my own two eye's. So I suggest you take a look at this facility before putting your loved one's in their.

Negative experience: Please make sure you are not leaving your loved ones here! It is the lowest quality Nursing home in all of Des Moines. It smells like pee, FEW employees actually look like they work or do anything, and it is a cluttered mess. I’m personally calling a health inspector after this post is written because, after working in Nursing homes and hospitals for years, this is nowhere near up to code. I genuinely wouldn’t wish this place on my worst enemy, let alone someone I genuinely care for. If you think I’m lying, take a look for yourself, and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

Negative experience: My sister was here for quite a while. It is a hole in the wall. Paint coming off the walls, sketchy elevator, no food choices, my sister wasn't bathed often enough, not enough workers, cigarettes were distributed among the residents for a social activity. Unbelievable.

Negative experience: This place is horrible! My husband was brought there and within a few hours we walked out. Very sketchy, facility was absolutely filthy, food was terrible.This place should be shut down. The pics on the website look nothing like it. Do not bring your loved one here.

Fantastic experience: My momma is currently at this facility and she loves it!! She has improved tremendously as when she arrived couldn't move her legs or feed herself. She now can put weight on 1 almost both legs. And has gained 15-20 lbs. They truly care about their residents.. I had an issue about money. And did their best to try and figure things out with us i recommend this place for any loved one.

Negative experience: This is a very unorganized nursing facility. They rent equipment from companies and then do not return it and refuse to pay their outstanding bill. I contacted even their corporate office and no response from them. All other attempts to reach the administrator and accounts payable person all went unanswered. I was given excuse after excuse after excuse. Our equipment was never returned and the bill was never paid. I would definitely not recommend this facility it is very obvious that their main concern is making/keeping their money, not the care provided to the residents that reside there.

Negative experience: Former resident from 2019 - 2022 . This is the worst care facility in all aspects of a nursing home . Most of the staff were good , but upper management , social workers were lazy and didn't want to do anything . Food was lousy , facility needs renovated , or closed ! I left for another facility , as I had had enough of their incompetence . I am now living in my own place , but RCD had nothing to do with it !

Negative experience: Zero stars! Mother was placed here for rehabilitation barely got any. They didn’t take good care of her at all. Do not send someone you care about here!! I’ve never seen bed sores so bad. One month and one week there. 3 weeks were supposed to be rehab. And now she’s dead!

Fantastic experience: Great staff who genuinely care for their residents!

Fantastic experience: I’ve had the opportunity to work with the Executive Director there and I love his passion for taking care of people. I can tell he truly cares and that makes all the difference to me.

Negative experience: Most disgusting facility I’ve had to visit a family friend in the building has a horrid and potent smell entering also the upkeep of the building was terrible I don’t encourage you to send your loved ones here

Negative experience: My mom stayed here for rehab and if we would’ve known how horrible this place was, she never would’ve gone. In fact, we removed her and took her home because they ran out of her meds. The final straw. The pictures they show are a complete joke. This place hasn’t been updated since probably the 70’s. The best way to describe this staff - neglectful. They ignore the call lights, their cleanliness is lacking in all aspects from common areas to the rooms, also leaving commodes with feces in them for days, and even staff INGORING the visitors. All this shows they have zero shame in not doing their job or caring about your loved one even when you’re there. They are all on their phones all the time. I honestly feel bad for any person staying here and I think this place needs to be evaluated by some kind of government agency and shut down.

Negative experience: The nursing director was so evil she lied for her staff allowed my mother in law to be neglected so much she had repeated UTIS, they they actually sent her to the urologist with dried poop on her and the urologist left the room an called DHS. my mother in law was a total care patient as long as family is there they are sweet as can be. After you leave it's hell. The rooms were so out dated an not cleaned properly. The director of nursing was dating the maintenance man . Employees there were employees stealing p

Fantastic experience: I learned so many things working at this facility, I was given opportunities to grow and learn that I would not have received anywhere else. I made lifetime friends and I can honestly say it was the hardest job to leave but as it goes in life I hadd to better myself, I owe my current success to RCD ànd how they prepared me for my new challenges.

Negative experience: Remember to not just read the reviews but visit the place before you send your loved one there. Some staff are excellent but they could use more of them. The place could use some TLC which would benefit those needing care. Paint and lighting as well as new dining room furniture would go along way. The rehab room is lovely but the rest of the place needs help. Thankful it was only for a short time we were there.

Fantastic experience: This is a great place to work. Staff and residents treat eachother like family, they are positive and i am always greeted with smiles and hellos. management takes the time to listen to any concerns or opinions and they are quick to find a solution and they also let the staff know how much they are appreciated on a regular basis.

I have visited there several times and it is clean, has friendly caring staff members, & the residents are a joy to visit with, check it out! Doing a great job with Skilled Care. Dedicated Team

Negative experience: horrible staff. Sent a family member there to do inpatient PT. They ended up in the hospital and when I asked when they went they couldn’t “remember” what day she went in and was laughing about it. On top of loosing some of her personal belongings. Do not send anyone here.

Negative experience: This place was horrible. This is my personal experience with this facility. I was supposed to be in skilled nursing but I was on my own. Patient can hit the button which they tell you to hit for assistance but the staff act like you never hit it. I was told by a person in charge they have 15 minutes to respond but what if you don't have 15 minutes it can be life or death. I needed an asthma treatment I pushed the button I laid there until I got the strength to go to nursing station I explained to them it's been 6 minutes since I needed assistance but the nurse looked behind her on the board and told me it's been 10 minutes. Some staff members are great some shows patient care isn't important. I got out with the help of my primary care physician. I learned if I ever have to go into rehab check the reviews

Negative experience: This is a horrible place to keep your loved one. The nurses are fine but the administrator is awful. I have a sister (48) there now, whom is severely overweight and has severe lymphodema. This place had all the info about her size and the things she would need, bigger commode and a bed that would elevate her legs above her heart to help with the lymphodema. My sister has her own wheelchair and her own flexing touch, which is for the lymphodema. They state they have lymphodema care there. With knowing everything about her and the needs, they said no problem and accepted her. Right during the transition to this place, they got a new administrator whom is awful! The nurses are just fine but the administrator does not care about the patients or their safety. My sister has been there since January and this administrator would not order the commode and has refused to get her the bed she needs. It is now April and they just now got the commode! All this time, the administrator had it so my sister would have to lay on her side with a chuck pad behind her so she could try to have a bowel movement. Over time, she just recently ended up in the hospital because she had gotten so constipated from not being able to sit up to use the bathroom. My family has had meetings with the administration and the administrator still refuses to get her the bed my sister needs. Her lymphodema has gotten so much worse because they have done no lymphodema therapy and not being able to get her legs up to where they are suppose to be. They have not used her flexy touch one time on her since she has been there. Even in her hospital records, she has been diagnosed with lymphodemia and that she needs a bed to get her legs above her heart. Yet the administrator continues to ignore the instructions. At their last residents meeting for any grievances, many patients complained about this administrator and yet nothing is done. The bed they have for my sister is a high bed, it does not lower. She is 5"9 and her feet can not touch the ground even when sitting on the bed. She has almost fallen trying to get out and onto this bed, a handful of times, last night being one of them. She talked to the administrator and all she said to my sister is, "we are not discussing the bed". Do NOT put your loved one in here! The administrator cares nothing about the patients nor their safety or following instructions from the doctors. They just want the money without providing what they need. I would give this place no stars if I could.

Negative experience: They received my mother (78) without a release from the hospital. Accepted with out my knowledge as POA. After a nurse learned this a day later on night shift, called my cell. Next day I learned they would only keep her in a diaper and leave her in bed. They told her she had to walk at least 10 feet before she could use the restroom. Did they not know she hadn’t walked for over 15 years and only do simple transfers. Refused her electric wheelchair to assist her. After a week and just locking her in her room, screaming with pain when I had negotiated using the stool previously, I made them sit her on the toilet and she gave birth to the largest stool they had ever seen. The next day she had pneumonia and mover to the hospital with sepsis and DIED shortly after. Not staffed properly or able to provide “humane” care for patients.

Fantastic experience: I’ve had both my grandmother and grandfather here. I was so please with all the staff that cared for him. My grandmother was here on the third floor and she loved every minute of it. She couldn’t stop saying how great the food was! I would recommend this facility to everyone.

Fantastic experience: This center should be on a top ten list. The team and residents all treat eachother as family. The food has improved with a fantastic new staff. They all take the time to hear your opinions and concerns also are quick to make decisions even under critical matters. I’m greeted by all who pass me with the most friendly smiles and hellos! I recommend the Rehabilitation Center Of Des Moines to you all reading! ❤️

Negative experience: Poor facility and they don't care for their patients properly and are rude

Fantastic experience: The changes this year have been great! Its great to see the building have its own staff and not relying on contract staff anymore like others. Everyone seems happy when I stop in. Both staff and residents greet me and are friendly. Continue with the great work!

Fantastic experience: The changes at the Rehab Center of Des Moines this year have been amazing. The staff here are so friendly and always willing to help. And the management team is very responsive and quick to address any concerns you might have. The best part is their Rehab gym, it is large and beautiful, occupying most of the entry level. this facility is truly well adapt to provide excellent therapy and nursing services.
