PIH Health Downey Hospital joined the PIH Health organization in October 2013. We are a nonprofit hospital with 199 beds that has been serving the community of Downey and the surrounding area for more than 100 years. In addition to high-quality inpatient care, we offer 24-hour emergency services and outpatient services. There are also two multispecialty medical office buildings near the hospital campus.

Positive experience: Why is it that the staff parks in the lot guest park in instead of back side of Coca-Cola on Patton?? Zero visit parking as I sit here now I'm watch them leave and arrive. I will be discussing with not only the administrators but as well as the city manager and council to get this addressed totally uncalled for and visitors shouldn't have to feel the stress of parking while rushing to see a loved one who could possibly be dying

Negative experience: Do not waste your time with this hospital they have you HOURS sitting in the waiting room before being called in then take more hours when your called in & they do not care if your in pain until they see you crying they’ll ask how how are you feeling .

Negative experience: AVOID GO STRAIGHT TO PIH WHITTER! My mother had an uncontrollable pain so I took her to this hospital as it is conveniently near me. Her moaning and crying in pain as staff passed by us just laughing at their own business with each other as they made us wait for half an hour in an EMPTY waiting room. To make a long story short, 6 hour ordeal only for a DIAGNOSIS. 3 hours ALONE was waiting for the ultrasound. She was sent HOME with a diagnosis and pain medication as the doctor said her condition was not applicable for surgery and to follow up with her primary doctor. Next day, her primary doctor saw her and wrote her a prescription to go back to ER as she was in such pain. We didn’t make the mistake of going back to that hospital & went to PIH in Whittier. The doctor said she for sure needed that surgery and it was done. I am writing this in detail to help others make the correct choice in picking a hospital because this one is certainty not it, this is unfortunately not my first negative experience with them but most definitely my last.

Negative experience: By far one of the worst hospitals you can visit especially in case of a emergency. The staff are incredibly unprofessional and unorganized, the wait time is borderline unbearable. At one of my visits to this hospital I have seen the staff continously send people in need of dire medical attention back in forth for hours on end. The staff have left many individuals in unstable health conditions to just sit there with no aid, in one instance they left a man having a severe asthmatic attacks and breathing problems just sitting there with no consideration for 2 hours. If I could give this PIH location a zero star I would, be warned and never come here. Save yourself the time, health, and energy visiting another hospital if possible.

Fantastic experience: Many thanks to an amazing group of professional health care providers at Downey PIH ED. My daughter recieved exceptional care recently when she went in for a severe sinus infection. A special thanks to Sara, the PA, Dr. Andrus, Armando and Oscar. Negative experience: Really bad. Uncle died there. Not polite. It's only gotten worse. So disorganized, they send you in circles. The others are right the receptionists and guards are rude and aggressive.

Negative experience: The staff there is so unprofessional, unorganized and not communicative when my mom was a patient there few weeks ago. The only good thing I’m going to say is they did almost a good job when she got her dialysis. Therefore, they did so many mistakes that corporate needs to know about it. How can you have a patient waiting for almost 48 hours without eating for a similar CT Scan to be done smh. Yeah after my dad and mom had to tell them they were dying of hunger that’s when they had food. Then they want the similar CT scan to get done in a few hours in the middle of the night. My mom has gone to other hospitals and they have done all scans, ultrasounds or procedures fast. If a patient wants to leave after they did the CT scan, talking to you and don’t respond back at least with a gesture or a hand movement that’s so so disrespectful. Now when mom wants to follow up with the doctor I guess at an urgent care they don’t have no records??? Where is medical records at from the hospital to send all paperwork to the clinical office (maybe urgent care) of the doctor This has been a very bad experience mom has gone through. Hope no one goes through this experience. Just a head up everyone.

Negative experience: We had an appointment with Dr Hooman who requested my husband should have an MRI of the spine, his nurse gave us the paper work but we were not told if an appointment was needed for this service, since the hospital was right there we decided to take care of it, walked into the hospital, the security guard on duty told us to just "walk to the radiology department down the hall" we get there and they asked if we had an appointment, the manager came to us and took us back to the registration desk, where we were "help" by Evelyn who made us make a call to get the appointment needed, I was on hold for 18 mins, no one answered the phone "all representatives were busy" finally I asked another girl how much longer was I going to be on the phone, she told me that Evelyn should help us and she'll be sending an email for the appointment, which we never got and the MRI was not done, so now we need to go back do the registration again and have the MRI done. PIH is a bad organization, the young generation don't care about their patients all they want is the money, I can't stand PIH!!!! Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!!!

Positive experience: Thankfully it's been a few years since I've had to bring anyone to PIH Downey - since the beginning of the remodel. I'm here today and , while the doctors and empl8yees are great, the atmosphere and decor are sterile and unwelcoming. I'll be here for quite some time and there is nothing comfortable about the waiting area. No more couches for long-term comfort. Very few places to set your stuff on while waiting, cold, wood floors, etc. I know this doesn't affect the quality of the hospital, but it no longer is welcoming and comforting for those waiting for the outcome of a serious and dangerous surgery.

Negative experience: Ese lugar es terrible la ambulancia llevo a mi mama una anciana de 87 años con problemas en su corazon y 200 de presion no le hicieron nada solamente le sacaron 9 tubos de sangre y una radiografia, el paramedico le dio algo y se le bajo a 135 pero mas tarde se le subio a 175 y la enfermerabignorante me decia que era normal, se molesto conmigo ñorque mi mama queria ir al baño y vino cuando quiso ella estaba hable y hable con un otro enfermero y en su cekular, ni siquiera supo que era un doctor quien habia mirado a mi mama y ella me decia que era una doctora, despues le pedi un vaso con agua para mi mama no para mi y tampoco lo quiso traer lo mando con ese muchacho con el qud ella estaba platicando por que fui dos veces pof el agua, la historia fue horrible y para el colmo la querian dejar en el segundo piso donde segun no podia quedarme asi k a las 3 de la mañana me la saque si la dejo la matan y luego dirian que le dio un ataque al corazon y no lo aguanto. Ni loca volvera ahi y obvio que deverian de hacer una investigacion las autoridades correspondientes porque ademas cobran por servicios que no dan.

Negative experience: I went to that hospital because I had a stomach virus and I couldn’t walk. The nurse said, follow me, and I could not match her speed. She straight up left me in the hallway alone And I had to figure out where to go myself. Please do not go here unless you have to.

Negative experience: Horrible experiences and service here. On two separate occasions I’ve brought my parents to get medical care. If it wasn’t for my sister and I to be on top and involved during their stay, my father would have died. My mother was recently discharged, basically told to go figure it out on her own to see a ortho specialist without being diagnosed with anything and was just given pain medication. Staff is not helpful.

Fantastic experience: Everyone I encountered during a trip to the ER was very helpful, professional and courteous. I would like to thank RN Katie and Dr. Gambuto for providing such excellent care and showing such kindness. I regret I did not get the names of other staff members who also deserve recognition, but they are great also!

Fantastic experience: My mom flew from CT to LA for vacation and during her visit she had a heart attack. PIH in Downey was the first place they took her and to say the least she had open heart surgery and all I have to say is what a wonderful staff, very clean hospital and their sense of urgency is admirable. My mom was hospitalized for almost a month and they truly treated my mother like a Queen and that speaks volume, they were very reassuring and that brought us peace. Being from out of state there’s nothing more important than feeling at home and everyone at this hospital made sure we felt that way, from the cleaning staff to the nurses. My full admiration goes out to the Doctor’s, specialist and PAs who were nothing but kind, sweet, empathetic and professional. With a grateful and humble heart we say Thank you! Thank you Nurse Elizabeth for taking good care of my mom, to all the nurses in the ICU including Miguel who my mom called her guardian angel after she experienced pain from surgery and thank you for not leaving her alone Thank you Dr. P may God always bless your soft and gentle hands so you may continue to safe more lives, Thank you Dr. Yoshino, Dr. Bui for caring about my mother and saving her life. Thank you PIH for all the good work and for all you have done for my mom and for us as a family. ❤️

Negative experience: Worst hospital ever. Do not show up if you're in pain, can't breath pretty much any emergency . Waste of time. You will die waiting for someone. Second time I go there. There won't be a third. Horrible.

Fantastic experience: I had a great experience for my procedure. I had an amazing staff starting with my preop Becky, my inter procedure team, Araceli and Jorge along with Dr. Nguyen and Dr Dholaria the best and. In recovery was Carol. I recommend PIH health Downey to everyone. After a nurse of 34 years I would definitely recommend coming back to PIH Downey for any procedures. And thank you for Karina for rescuing my IV!

Negative experience: If you’re having a true emergency please do not come here . I’ve been waiting for 5 hours in pain crying. I do not recommend at all unless you really really have too. After waiting for five hours in pain, I was taken into the fast tracked area where I was waiting for an additional hour still crying in pain. Finally, a doctor came in and told me she would give me Tylenol. She left the room. I was waiting for an additional hour just to get Tylenol while all the nurses at the nurse desk were laughing talking about what flavor latte they were going to get. Long story short, I ended up walking out without any treatment

Fantastic experience: I was scheduled for outpatient triple hernia surgery at this hospital to be handled by Dr. Deere. It didn't feel like I was in a hospital, the atmosphere was warm and family-like. I didn't feel like a number or even a patient, but like member of the family. Now I will drop some names: Dr. Loyola (anesthesia), Dr. Deere (surgeon), and the many nurses... Ana, Aileen, Alma, Orchid, Sue, and Ron. Thank you Friends for taking such good care of me!!!!! ☺️

Fantastic experience: I came in today for a colonoscopy with Dr. Dholaria and Dr. MhlH Nguyen as anesthesia. They were both very professional and made me feel very comfortable. I definitely recommend Dr. D for anyone who needs a colonoscopy. Orchid, did my IV on the the first try. I love the energy of this hospital. I would like to work here in the future.

Fantastic experience: Just completed a colonoscopy procedure at this hospital today. The medical staff, support staff and doctors were just incredible. Everyone was cheerful, friendly, consistently exhibited a patient first mentality, and were all extremely professional. Negative experience: Just came from this hospital and I’ll never ever go there and I’ll never recommend anyone to come there I went in for heavy vaginal bleeding around 11 pm last night and do you know that I am just now leaving at 8 am in the morning the hospital is racist the doctor didn’t wanna see me they didn’t even come and tell me what they found I had to find out from my discharge papers and I honestly felt like the nurses and doctors were being very bias I remember at one point they called everyone but me they gave me a room to do a pelvic exam that didn’t even go right the ultrasound tech was very blunt and was hurting me and I just can’t believe how unprofessional and unpleasant these people were to me I use to bring my entire family here I will recommend they go elsewhere

They took my conditions ABOVE SERIOUS, and Indeed got me the treatments, care, and the valid re-assurance that I WAS NOT Wrong when I chose to seek a different opinion than that of the other idiot doctors who were insulting, offending my knowledge in reference to how my body was reacting due to all my conditions.

Negative experience: Trash facility. The guards are rude, the staff espically in the ccu are even ruder. They transfer people without telling their families any pertinent information. They will put you on a 5150 hold to milk your insurance for more money. Do not go here or take your family here, you life depends on it. Update- Went there last night(08-04-23) out of necessity for vomiting blood. They never addressed the co plaint and instead told me it was all in my jead and it was mental health problems. Excuse me, how exactly is throwing up blood a mental health issue. Discharged after 6 hours there still throwing up blood but hey they gave me an IV so apparently I'm all good according to them.

Negative experience: I lost my daily medication a few days ago and started experiencing horrible withdrawls (confusion/hallucinations, suicidal ideation, body aches and pains etc), after explaining the physical aches and pains Dr. MARTIN (or attending caregiver Michael Sporty *skinny middle aged grey hair w man with thick framed glasses) dismissively replied: "so?..." as if it/I didnt matter--I couldnt believe it... He then said he'd fill a prescription till i can get my regular refill--but when I went to pick it up, they said that the dr. canceled it two minutes after sending it initially, so they had nothing for me... I had to go back and waste another hour and half trying to get the nurses attention, so they could confirm and resend it, all while spiraling and suffering further... The pharmacists looked weirded out by the whole thing and said it was definitely the hospital, who cancelled the script and nothing on their end... NO one deserves to be treated and disrespected this way. Guy is an arrogant A-hole, who couldnt care less and should be fired since he can't handle being a professional.

Negative experience: My ex girlfriend was treated very badly. They gave her the wrong medication and never really checked up on her, they lost her blood samples, one Dr rubbed her knee, and one Dr took her blood and threw it in the trash. They even left her in the IV for 7 hours. I highly recommend not to come to this hospital they don't care.

Negative experience: The Doctors and medical clerks lack very poor communication in collaborating with patients. I have been bounced back in forth in one day on the phone with PIH, and various offices. The issue hasn't been resolved over a week. I was a prior patient of Downey Community Hospital and other LA County medical offices in the past by far PIH Health hospital has far been the worst service. Thank you

Negative experience: They take your money then tell they cant help you. I had too pay a $200 co-payment . My fiancée called earlier that day to confirm that excepted my insurance. They supposedly did. Paid the co-payment because I previously had a bad experience with another nearby hospital. Just to be told to go back to that other hospital. Because they had better answers. This was a waste of $200 and 3 hours that I will never get back .

Negative experience: I came waited 20 minute and Margarete could not find my order which is crazy because my doctor had just called and remind me about the bloodwork last month. She had to go to the back and bring someone back to help here. 30 minute have passed and even the security guard had to come in and ask me if I have been help cuz I was standing here for too long. I told her the order is in my chart and she said she saw something like CBC but it's not an order. If CBC,cmp, and lipid panel is not an order for blood work I don't know why why are they in my chart. at this point I am almost late to work so I have to leave, so I was fasting for nothing. When I'm about to leave she's finally said she'd find my order but I'm going to be late for work so I have to leave. I am so disappointed and I will go to other site at least someone who are able to figure out how things works.

Negative experience: Bureaucracy is number one in that hospital. I spent 5 hours with my little girl and was asked the same questions at list 5 times, all employees are glued to monitors and pushing computer carts everywhere just entering data or just eating time. At the end after 5 hours the doctor made my daughter cry so much in pain just to say, sorry I can help I dont have the right tools, are you #$-@ kidding me? It's a hospital for Gods sake, I'm sure the insurance will get a 10000 bill for nothing. Please if you have a way to go to a different hospital please do, there'e plenty of other hospitals better tjan this one. I saw other people crying in pain but they didn't care, they're there just to make sure the billing information is accurate so they get paid. Very bad experience.......

Negative experience: I received an incorrect diagnostic and medication was harmful for something I didn’t actually have!!!!! I was basically treated like a drive thru no test was done no blood work doctor didn’t take the time to fully exam me !!!! Luckily I was able to book an appointment right away with a dermatologist and was able to get relieve . The medication prescribed at the E.R by the way complicated my actual treatment today but I will get better with time ‍♀️

Negative experience: 12/14/2022 at 2:00 am: I was brought to PIH by Ambulance due to fainting (tested Positive for Covid) they were going to take me to St. Francis and my husband knew I would want to go to Downey where my Primary Doctor is. Dr. Laura Ryan. The first nurse was very attentive BUT never brought me nausea meds even though three times she said she’d be back with it. After about 2 hours they isolated me in a private room because of being Covid positive. It was down hill after that. Never got the Meds for nausea, never helped me use the Bathroom, I was a fall risk, I fainted three times and arrived with my BP dropping and low heart rate. I had to unhook myself 3 times to get up and use the Bathroom. No call button and nurses rarely came in. I was in a gurney all night. My Doctor came in to see me in the am and said that she wanted me to stay there for a 24 hour evaluation. By 11:00 pm, I just couldn’t do it! I was told that if I left, I was leaving against medical advice. They said I had the “beginning of pneumonia, can they bring me breakfast!?” Breakfast? it was 11:00pm. Now they are worried about me leaving really!? My Doctor said she wanted me to get some rest!!! And be observed!!! Then I said if they have a bed ready now, I’ll stay otherwise I am going home!” I was soo tired and fatigued!!! She said I was admitted to stay but a room was not ready. She didn’t have any idea when a room would be ready! I needed to sleep. I said “I need to go home.” I can remember leaving in fear! If I get sick again! Where would I go!? It was such a horrible uncomfortable experience I never want to go back!!! I’m so glad Dr Ryan followed up later that day and prescribe paxlovid because I just took my last dose and I’m feeling much better! I need to find a different hospital! PIH isn’t what it used to be! It was awful! Looking out the window in my room, I could see the nurses visiting, like I wasn’t even there. No one checked up on me for hours!!! I took care of myself, no pillow, no call button. Just left in a gurney from 2 am to 11:00 pm. Oh and after Signing papers to leave. They left me to leave on my own too! Thank you Doctor Ryan Thank you x—Ray scan guy. Thank you first nurse. Shame on the rest! I Hate that the Good experiences of care for years at Downey Community Hospital will not continue with PIH. So sad. I hope my Doctor finds another place, when I am well I will be investigating! Good Luck PIH I hope you are able to turns things around for the community!

Negative experience: Horrible hospital! My primary care physician filed a complaint against the ER doctor that treated me. I hit myself on my forehead and started bleeding and feeling lightheaded. I went to the emergency room and the attending doctor was very rude and angry. As he was getting the stitches ready, I asked if he could use glue instead of stitched to close the wound. With an angry look on his face, he asked me if I was a doctor. Before I could answer he pushed me back onto the bed then shoved the stitches into my head. As a result of that approach I was left with a big scar above my left eyebrow that could easily have been avoided if this doctor would have used glue rather than stitches. My primary care physician was so angry at what the doctor did, he filed a complaint against him. Another point worth making - this place is no longer Downey Hospital. PIH took it over and now they do not give you, nor do they prescribe controlled substances even if you need them. These doctors are placing restrictions on themselves as to how they treat patients and refuse to be open to all treatment options. Avoid this, and all PIH hospitals, at all costs!

Positive experience: Based in my experience I'll give PIH 4 stars and let me tell you why: I was admitted and moved to the 4th floor and I have nothing but good and great things to say about the staff there specially about MARY JANE she was very nice and professional all the time and had a smile on her face all the time thank you Mary!!! Also thank you to all the nurses (Mayte,Vicky, Mercedes,Justin Marjorie) sorry if i forgot someone but thank you very much all of you guys for your help. Now I can't say the same about the technician in the MRI room he was very rude and had a bad attitude bad experience there and also the waiting time in the ER was way too long to get admitted and that's the reason why I give the hospital 4 stars.

Fantastic experience: There are a Lot of hard working people at this facility. Doctors, nurses, receptionists, custodial staff. Negative experience: My first ER experience taking my 3yr old with a head open laceration after he hit his head and started bleeding. I went to this hospital thinking they would prioritize a child with an open wound somehow. But we ended up seeing a doctor until after 8hrs. That is ridiculous to me. We arrived at midnight and yes it looked like a busy time. I didn't see there was a sense of urgency from the night staff to properly intake the patients. They kept calling everyone more than once to ask questions and send us back to the waiting area. They lack empathy for the people who are being checked in and maybe they were tired or who knows but no excuse. A hospital is a business and we are the customers who will most likely be getting billed as if you got proper service. Staff walks around there like there is no urgency. Who corrects this? I hate to nag but it was my child. A child with an opening to the head. He ended up getting staples after 8hrs of wait. Wow. Do better.

Fantastic experience: The Gold standard. We came in around 10an in sunday because my wife started going through labor and a little before 12 noon I had my newborn daughter in my arms. They where fast, accurate, respectful, professional and caring.

Fantastic experience: My experience was nothing short of extraordinary. The team and staff were thorough, caring, and understanding of my fears and pain. They helped to explain what exactly was going on in my body as well as what to do for after care. I would like to give a special shout out to Dr. Sporty, Dr. Hentzen, Erin Reyes, and Joshua Gamboa. These amazing staff members gave me the best care possible not only physically, but mentally as well. There was a time I had an emergency surgery a couple of years back and have PTSD from the experience. When I arrived at the emergency room, I was experiencing a panic attack and Erin did everything she could to calm me down and make me feel as comfortable and safe as possible. Dr. Sporty took a look at my foot and gave me a brief run down of his initial diagnosis and the following steps. Then Dr. Hentzen analyzed my x-rays and explained to me my final diagnosis while putting details in laymen terms. Josh explained to me how to use crutches and even gave me a packet about what was wrong with my ankle and how to take care of it so it could properly heal. I truly love the Emergency Department staff at PIH Health Downey Hospital and am grateful for all their love and support. It is always my go to hospital because of the attentiveness and kindness of the staff. Thank you PIH Downey ER!

Fantastic experience: My first time coming to this place i thought i was going to take forever but it was fast taking care of my son employees were super friendly and nice and Dr rayvan kadi super professional and nice with me and my son he explained everything he was going to do with my son dislocated shoulder and he put it back so fast, thank u everybody for your hard work and patience.

Fantastic experience: This was my first experience at PIH health Downey hospital my first time ever going and the doctors were nice the staff was nice I didn't really have to wait to see a doctor they were really! The doctors and nurses listen to me and didn't rush to discharge me they made sure I had a ride home! They put me in a wheelchair and wheeled me to the lobby and even a nurse waited with me until boyfriend came and I appreciate it that was kind of them to do that

Fantastic experience: Wonderful Emergency Department experience. Staff are professional, efficient, and caring. I entered in the worst pain I have ever experienced, was quickly brought into a room by nurse Elsa and checked in by nurses Dave and Riza. Dr. Sporty came to examine me, ordered tests and medications and explained everything to both me and my husband. Nurses Sophanny and Erin made sure I was as comfortable as possible and updated me often. I was discharged with my pain at ease, was given a diagnosis and follow up instructions. Thank you for providing great care to me and my family!

Negative experience: Tengo una experiencia muy mala y una muy buena lleve a mi hija eh inmediatamente me dieron el pase ni siquiera estacione bien y todo maravilloso la segunda ves mi misma niña es alérgica ala nuez se le sierra la garganta necesita atención inmediatamente llegue minuto a minuto su condición empeoraba era se lo explique ala enfermera y me dijo que la Ivan a valorar le enseñe la espalda de mi hija por la alergia se le estaban haciendo erupciones como ampoyas y dijo espera turno le dije olvídate me la llevo y me dijo bajo tu riesgo salí volando hacia otro hospital y en cuanto llegue recibió atención inmediata ella decía que cada ves le costaba más respirar no se que hubiera pasado si espero ahí. Solo por el primer servicio les doy 2 estrellas porque por el segundo ni gasto mi tiempo pero es importante que sepan y entrenen bien al personal..

Negative experience: Never write reviews for anything cause I feel it’s a waste of time & nothing changes if I complain but I’m doing this cause I want this to be on record & if something happens to me, it’s their fault. Over two weeks ago I started having weird stomach pain & discomfort under my right rib. Days prior I had BWW in Downey & thought it was the food that didn’t sit well. A week after feeling those symptoms I check in to this ER hoping I can get some answers… guess what? I didn’t! Not only do I have a horrible purple bruise from where my blood was drawn (cause they used a random vein) They made it a point to tell me that “Mexican Cultures cook very acidic and spicy & that I should lay off of that & alcohol” mind you I never once stated “I’m Mexican” My experience was horrible. I felt they didn’t care enough to tell me if something is wrong. They said I was ok, didn’t give me any meds & I continue to feel some discomfort around my stomach.

Negative experience: Customer service is awful. I was here with a bad back and I couldn't walk and I was in severe pain and I waited in the lobby until I was the last to he called. Very poor customer service and I will research actions for lawsuits.

Negative experience: The ER is the worst. Everything to them is a UTI. And the wait times are ridiculous. They expect you to be by yourself waiting when you can't walk and no one is there to help you do anything.

Negative experience: This place is horrible. They have NO idea if a patient is discharged or not. I was told my husband was sent back to his facility only to learn that he was admitted. Calling for information I useless and trying to reach a doc for information is a joke!

Negative experience: This is the worst experience my daughter went twice to the emergency room with pain in her stomach the nurse was rude rell her she only wants pain medi tecine and don't go backt daughter has an referral to see the GI doctor but not til Two months she been in pain but the nurse told her don't let me see you here again and first of all she was mad because my daughter didn't talk English I been calling to report her but no one has called me back.

Negative experience: I have been to this ER twice this month. Both times including today), no one has asked me why I am here, no one has triaged me. The last time when I arrived I was asked to wait outside, it was 15 minutes before someone came outside to triage me/ ask me what issue was, and let me in. I expressed concern on this since I had passed out 20 minutes prior at home and was told “If I was that sick that I needed to see someone right away, I should’ve called an ambulance.” I left after 2 hours without any vitals being taken and went to another ER. I came in again today, due to losing consciousness and chest pain. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes for someone to ask my symptoms and why I was in the ER. Once, they did my blood pressure was taken and it was 199/143 and then realized I needed an EKG. There is a group of 4 nurses talking about weekend activities.

Positive experience: 99.9% of people are so nice n helpful, I appreciate their help .the man at the front desk that has you take temperature ,mask n sanitizer nice guy but as I was in waiting room most of the time he pulls his mask off when someone comes up to him he pulls it half way up. He walks around lobby and goes inside the gift shop with mask below his chin why is he allowed to do this inside a hospital unbelievable again no one says anything to him.

Negative experience: Unfortunately this is not my first bad experience with PIH Whittier and Downey I bring my mother to appointments and medical services she needs. The staff it's so rude, unprofessional and unethical. Security I do not why is it acceptable for them to be yelling at people. (Patients and company) If there were 0 star I would definitely rate 0.

Negative experience: Coming to the ER is a mission, the waiting is always long and to my experiences bringing my love ones is frustrating they take a very long time to call people and always say they are short stuffed.. I feel they don't care much for the patients. I just do t u understand they leave you waiting when you feel the worst and looking for some help.

Negative experience: I came with my relative to Urgent Care (ER) and was received by a rude and disrespectful women (nurse) by the name of Martha, she does registration at the door. Because there was a misspelling on the form she got aggravated and gave us an attitude, she even went to the point of saying “there’s plenty of other hospitals if you wish” all this was unprovoked and obviously unprofessional. What a terrible way to represent a hospital.

Negative experience: We arrived at an almost empty ER. My husband was in severe pain, yet they made us wait for over an hour before getting him into a bed. When we asked they said they are preparing his bed!!! Waiting for a doctor to see him took a very long time too. Above all they have the rudest reception staff you may ever encounter.

Negative experience: I had a mammogram done back in 2020. At that time, the technician was professional and courtesy. I will emphasis courtesy because the technician left the room while I undress and put on the gown. Yesterday, I had a mammogram done there yesterday by a different technician. Technician was unprofessional. She had an attitude. Furthermore, I have never had a technician stay in the room while I undress. There was even mirror on the side of the room so she could look at me while I'm undressing. I felt very uncomfortable having someone watch me get undress. I will not go there again.

Negative experience: Brought my mom to the emergency room this morning for a severe head injury, bleeding and all. Instead of assessing the urgent situation, their office went about their typical strict protocol. There was no sense of urgency in taking her in what so ever. Sat her in the waiting room for over an hour, blood all over the towel she held to her head and everything. Didn't allow me or anyone to at least sit with her to keep her company in her condition - nothing! There is no sympathy for the need of the patients or concerns of loved ones at this emergency room's admitting office. Please don't expect much.

Negative experience: There was this one specific lady with curly and dark hair with fair skin in the front of the ER on Wednesday around 4:00pm not sure what her name was because she I’m assuming had her badge turned around on purpose.. she was so unprofessional and made everyone feel bad because she showed no sign of care and she was being so rude. I don’t normally post reviews like this but her attitude just really disturbed me and how she’s allowed to work in a hospital with that type of character. But all of the doctors were great and treated me with care.

Negative experience: This hospital kept me for 2 weeks due to chronic colon damage. Discharged me at 7pm without the main medicine that has helped me stop bleeding from the inside!! They explained how the doctor who is education on condition didn’t leave notes for the new doctor on the clock NEVERTHELESS, Please explain to me how I got discharge without signing out & having the proper explanation on the circumstances of my well being!! Very very scary to leave your life in the hands of people who fail to make sure you can recover to the best of your ability!!

Fantastic experience: This hospital by far is the best hospital that I have been in in all these 20 years that I’ve been in and out of hospitals. They are very courteous, attentive, and treat you with respect. Every time I go, they impress me with their kindness and humility. I have nothing bad to say about any employee I went to the radiology department for X-rays. Mr. Leon Lee was my radiologist. He was very patient and courteous. He went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and safe. Mr. Lee saw how much pain I was in and went out of his way to help me. He even pushed my out into my car which made me feel like I mattered. I’ve been very ill for 5 years in a lot of pain. I actually feel very safe and cared for. It is always my pleasure to come here. Thank you you so much for caring for my needs. You make my life easier to bare.

Fantastic experience: I visited this hospital ER last night after a fell off my motorcycle on the hwy. I was treated with the upmost care & respect from the time they assisted out the car to the roll me out. I dont recall his name but a tall slinder older gentleman wheelchaired me in. Energy just amazing. Dr. Lou was so informative and attentive. He was respected my wishes while advising me of pros/cons. Krystal was my bedside nurse. & she upheld her title in every sense of the word. She was nurturing, communication was delightful and I could tell she knew how to base it off my emotions. She kept me comfortable with warm blankets, carefully effectively inserting IV. She checked on my frequently. The brought x-rays right to my room so I didn't have to be constantly transported. Ray was a fast & careful technician. Cody & i think Keving carefully created my leg cast abd was very delicate with mobility throughout the process. They provided thorough training on how to use the crutches. Cody was amazing and took extra care on my discharging. In the mist he took a urgent call and the brought another patient back to life. Then came right back to me. Im so grateful for a team of Angels who really made a difference last night & every night!

Fantastic experience: Today I had a procedure with Dr. Ratrgard in outpatient. The team was very professional, profecient, and very comforting. Nel and Ju Hee were attentive to all my concerns and helped to calm my fears. Bryan and Jeanette were great in the OR. Dr. Chao gave me great anesthesia. Mary and Sarah helped everything go smoothly in the recovery. Dr. Rastegard was very informative and patient. The overall staff was great. I highly recommend coming here.

Marcus the RN at the emergency room is the most kind nurse that has ever taken care of me in my entire life. He was so nice and very professional. Fantastic experience: My mother has been living with severe rheumatoid arthritis for a few years now. This week she had hip replacement surgery at PIH Downey Hospital and I can honestly say the nursing staff, specifically Mary and Carina in Outpatient Surgery, went above and beyond to make the surgery happen. The personal care and concern they showed for my mother helped reduce the stress and anxiety of the surgery for both her and I. I also want to give a special thank you to Dr. Shah, the Orthopedic Surgeon who performed the operation. It is evident that he genuinely cares for his patients and wants nothing more than to improve their quality of life. He has definitely accomplished this with my mother! She is now virtually pain free and her outlook on life is now a more positive one.

Fantastic experience: Today I can in for an outpatient procedure on a busy day. Everything was excellent from the nice admitting registration staff to my pre-op nurses Connie and Sue. The GI Team Ryan and Nancy Nurse, Dr. Kim and Dr. Tri Nguyen we’re great! Aileen was an awesome recovery nurse! Thank you PIH for a great experience and sending me home early. I recommend this to everyone!

Fantastic experience: Had to go to ER twice this past month. There was no wait both times and I was seen and treated right away. Everyone who treated me were very kind & caring. I wish I lived in Downey would definitely get a primary care physician within PIH. This is the best hospital I've ever been to in my 60 years if life & I have seen many.

Fantastic experience: I came in for a procedure in Outpatient surgery. I had such a great experience today. I was happy to be scheduled so quickly for a last minute procedure. My nurses were Aileen and Janna. I was so surprised when they only stuck me once for an IV because I'm a very hard stick. All the staff from start to finish was amazing. The nurses in the Covid testing area were so friendly and they got me in out so quickly. Thank you very much to the PIH Downey OPSC. And thanks to Stephanie and Mary R for checking on me. You guys are the best! I will definitely be coming back here for all my procedure.
