Longevity & Performance Institute: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Dr. Ben and his team take such a measured and diagnostic approach to treatment that is unlike any other physical therapy I’ve experienced. I’ve had years of chronic low back pain, a microdiscectomy surgery and multiple pre and post op PTs over the years. The systemic root of my ailments were never properly addressed until coming to LPI. Their approach has left me feeling empowered and the tailored exercises helped give me lasting relief in the moment when I wasn’t in sessions. Each session iterated on my progress and the techniques were adjusted based on my symptoms and function. This is a team that is truly committed to your long term well being, researching and learning the most about our whole body systems, and getting you back to a quality of life you may not have thought possible. Thanks so much.
Fantastic experience: Dr Ben, Sarah and Bryant are absolutely incredible. I was a patient of theirs for a few years after a series of surgeries. They helped me physically and emotionally. I've never had a PT more caring, thorough, or with better outcomes. I could literally tell a difference after every exercise. I have recommended them to multiple friends and family, if you're event thinking of going here. DO IT!
Fantastic experience: My lower back pain has been improved significantly with only 6 appointments over a period of a couple months.
Fantastic experience: I initially came to LPI with a lot of pain, and was getting ready to give up running and playing basketball forever. LPI was able to identify and address the root cause of everything, and got me back to running and basketball pain-free. I feel like I just got 15 years of my physical body/active life back. I hope this helps anyone in pain understand there is help for them out there as well.
Fantastic experience: I've always struggled with issues in my back, legs, and other areas, constantly dealing with pain throughout my body. There were times when I couldn’t even sit properly due to the severity of my back pain. Over the years, I’ve worked with multiple doctors and therapists, but none of the treatments fully addressed the problem. The pain would always return after a short period. After meeting with Dr. Sarah, she patiently worked with me to address my problems. Dr. Sarah’s treatment has changed my life. I no longer live with the recurring pain in my back and legs, and I can now sit for extended periods without discomfort. I’m deeply appreciative of LPI’s education and treatment, which have significantly improved my health and life. I highly recommend this group to all. All of the doctors and staff are friendly and professional.
Fantastic experience: My experience with physical therapy has been truly transformative. For years, I struggled with a myriad of health issues—tension headaches that started haunting me at 16, recurrent wrist and tailbone pain since my late teens, and troubling episodes of nausea, shortness of breath, and shoulder discomfort. These symptoms had become a constant presence in my life, affecting both my physical well-being and my overall quality of life. After numerous doctor visits and consultations, I was fortunate to find Dr. Ben at Longevity & Performance Institute. From the moment I walked into their clinic, I knew I was in good hands. They took the time to listen to my concerns, understand my medical history, and conduct a thorough assessment. Unlike previous experiences, they didn't just treat the symptoms; they delved deeper to uncover the root causes of my issues. Through a combination of targeted exercises, manual therapy, and personalized treatment plans, we were able to identify the root cause of my issues. Dr. Ben tailored each session to address these specific issues, guiding me with patience and expertise every step of the way. What truly sets them apart is their holistic approach and genuine commitment to their patients' well-being. They didn't rush the process but instead focused on gradual progress and long-term solutions. With their guidance and encouragement, I noticed significant improvements. My headaches became less frequent, my wrist and tailbone pain diminished, and the episodes of nausea and shortness of breath gradually subsided. Today, I am thrilled to say that I am living a pain-free life once again, thanks to the dedication and expertise of the team at Longevity & Performance Institute.
Fantastic experience: Worked very closely with Sarah. I've done Physically Therapy twice now (different organizations) and what I've realized is that physical therapy is a very-very exact science. What I appreciated about Sarah and LPI is they take the exact science very seriously. She knows EVERY muscle and assesses exactly what muscles need to be supported and strengthen. She analyzes and writes down angles of movement range to track progress and see where work needs to be done, she works with you specifically on the exact posture and position you need to do in order for the exercise to be effective. It's because of all of this that I not only healed and got back range of motion but also understood what was happening through the process. Would obviously highly-highly-highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: I went to see Dr. Sarah and her knowledge and skills to listen to how you're currently feeling was great. She took the time to explain to my why my shoulder could be feeling the way it has been and demonstrated exercises prior to me trying them out for myself. My shoulder was feeling better even after 1 session. The office is clean and all the providers were very welcoming! I definitely recommended L & P.
Fantastic experience: In January of this year (2024) I had a number of issues with my knees and core that made me less active, which led to additional health problems, like increased weight gain. Dr. Sarah put together a plan that helped me rebuild from the ground up, regaining strength and range of motion until I could get back on the hiking trails and in the gym. Five months later, I've lost forty pounds and I'm feeling better than I have in years. I can't recommend this place enough, wish I'd found it sooner!
Fantastic experience: Dr. Sarah Powner is an amazing PT. I've had mild but annoying lower back pain for over 15 years. I used to see a chiropractor but now understand that's not a long term solution. I tried another PT through my insurance and was discouraged as there was little science behind the sessions and it seemed like a waste of time. It was a cheap copay but ineffective. I took a chance with LPI after seeing really good reviews and their instagram that was filled with evidence based information. I'm so glad I did. Dr. Powner is thorough with her assessment and explanations. She provides great cues for accurately performing the exercises. Yes this place can be pricey but it is SO worth it. As I see it, health is wealth. I did get some money reimbursed with a superbill. I'm no longer stopping mid-walk due to my back pain or massaging my back witih my knuckle before sleeping. I no longer hobble out of the gym. I'm so grateful for LPI and their high quality physical therapists. If you come here, you will be in good hands with highly skilled, well trained professionals who provide quality care each session.
Fantastic experience: My son, a 15 year old baseball pitcher, came in with a 6 month old shoulder injury from over use. During the last 6 months we tried many types of therapy. Resting the shoulder. Heat, Ice, stretches. Cheap, basic physical therapy that lasted 30 minutes on a weekly basis that insurance covered. Even went as far as using Prolozone therapy and PrP injections in the shoulder. Nothing seemed to work. Then, we came to LPI and had a 1to1 evaluation with head physical therapist, Dr. Ben Yu. Ben approached the injured shoulder with a different perspective than other places. He looked more at the source of the injury and how other parts of the body needed conditioning to fix the injured shoulder. With a personal treatment guide created for my son, the shoulder is on its way to healing and getting stronger. I recommend LPI to anyone looking for a more personalized physical therapy treatment plan from trained and knowledgeable professionals. It is a bit pricey, but worth the time and results.
Fantastic experience: I very rarely write reviews but I've been working with Dr. Powner off and on for 2 years and she has been extremely effective in treating my stubborn lower back pain. I highly recommend her and this facility.
Fantastic experience: I have been suffering from chemo induced neuropathy for 8 years. I've tried pretty much everything to relieve the pain that was shooting down both my legs and tingling and pricking on my toes and fingertips. Doctors have prescribed drugs ie gabapentin, lyrica and others that i can't even remember the name. I even tried acupuncture, chiropractic treatments, physical therapy but they couldn't diagnose the root cause of my pain. We found LPI on social media and they claimed that they are experts in treating the root cause of pain. After a phone consultation with Dr Ben, I drove for almost 1 hr(LA traffic) to meet with Dr Sarah. She came up with a game plan to treat my symptoms and after 6 months of working with her, my overall pain has reduced to a minimum and other days I am pain free and feel like I can run a marathon. I am back to doing all the activities that i enjoy especially playing volleyball with my daughter. Thank you Dr Sarah and LPI. My quality of life is a so much better now because of you.
Fantastic experience: I contacted LPI to best prepare myself for hip replacement surgery and for post-op recovery, and I could not be more grateful for their level of excellence. From the very first conversation I had with Ben about my needs and their approach, I knew I was in the right spot. Sarah is the therapist I work with, and she tunes in on a level I have rarely experienced from other forms of therapy or training. Honestly, everyone needs a Sarah in their lives! My hip was the result of a movement pattern in many of my lower body joints, and Sarah has taken that all in. She gives me very targeted exercises and is constantly encouraging with her demeanor and energy - it can get discouraging to be faced with all of the parts of the issue, but she has continued to find ways to address what's necessary, layer by layer. And the difference is profound. I'm now 6 weeks post-surgery and got in the pool today for the first time in months with no pain. My body is happy every time I walk into LPI and even happier afterwards. Even though I work specifically with Sarah, I get the sense that everyone there is holding my recovery with their attention. Honestly...if you want to recover in the most intelligent way possible, don't hesitate to contact them.
Fantastic experience: I had a great session with Dr. Sarah to help me with my shoulder pain. I really appreciated the length she went to asking questions, testing my mobility and spending time really trying to get a good idea before rushing to a diagnosis. The whole experience from seeing the ad on Instagram to booking my appointment and meeting the team was so streamlined and easy.
Fantastic experience: I sprained my ankle at 30 weeks pregnant AND had a shooting pain down my right arm. I was pretty miserable before I started working with Dr. Sarah, but in just a few sessions she found the source of my pain and taught me how to correctly move my body in regards to my growing bump and the extra weight I was carrying around. Working with Dr. Sarah was a game changer because she prepared me with the tools I'd need for a smooth delivery. Everything I learned from her, including breathing exercises, pelvic floor prep, perineal massage, pregnancy posture, and more, not only helped me pop out my baby without any complications but also recover faster. I was up and walking around a few hours after delivery! Thanks again, LPI. Will forever be grateful for all of the personalized care and guidance you've shown me. Highly recommend if anyone is looking to start their PT journey.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Ben and his team does amazing work! They are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to what they do. Prior to working with Dr. Ben and his team I had issues with my hip/goin area. The pain was quite bad where it was affecting my sleep. I tried a few other modalities and none of them created lasting recovery. After about 4 months of working with Dr. Ben, I am happy to say that my hip/groin area is feeling much better. It is no longer affecting my sleep and I no longer feel that pain in my everyday normal mobility. Another neat thing is that Dr. Ben also helped the mobility of my right shoulder. I had an old basketball injury for close to 20 years. I met with multiple doctors and they all pretty much said I can choose to have surgery but there are no guarentees of how I'll recover from it or just live with it since it's something that I'm ok with so far. Dr. Ben gave me a few exercises to do and the mobility in my right shoulder has improved so much. Better than I've ever felt since the injury!! Thank you Dr. Ben. I really appreciate you and your team.
Fantastic experience: We happened upon LPI by searching Yelp for the best reviewed physical therapists and after having tried a few other physical therapists. My experience with physical therapists previous to LPI has been less than impressive, with PT being either unprepared or not really having a definitive plan. All that changed from my first conversation with Ben - he is a great listener and communicator and it was clear that he was motivated by an innate desire to problem solve rather than just get a patient and go through the motions. After about 6 months of my son not being able to run or ride his mountain bike due to a rather rare knee injury, he is now doing both pain free after working with Ben for about 6 weeks. Ben's intelligence, impeccable professionalism and ability to effectively communicate complex body movements to his patients in an understandable manner cannot be matched!
Fantastic experience: If you're dealing with lower back, shoulder, or knee issues then seeing Ben and the LPI team is a must. Ben is extremely knowledgeable in identifying the root cause, then educating you on how your body has molded or adapted to your specific habits that cause dysfunctional pain, the team then not only designs a program to get you back to equilibrium and pain free, but helps with lifestyle recommendations to keep you pain free. Some programs can be challenging, but the payoff which directly contributes to an increase in your health, mobility, longevity and performance are worth it.
Fantastic experience: Everybody at LPI is friendly, knowledgeable and professional. You can tell they are passionate in what they do and put patient care at the top.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Sarah Powner was amazing. I was having chronic elbow pain after overdoing it with chin-ups and feeling a weird sensation like my arm was taffy stretching. After suffering for a few months, it wasn't getting better on its own. From reading online, I was sure it was tennis elbow. However, I went to see Dr. Sarah about it, she checked me out and concluded that it wasn't tennis elbow but rather an irritated nerve. She had me strengthen the shoulder so it could function correctly, so I could stop asking my elbow to do the work that my shoulder should be doing. The pain that had plagued me for months went away almost instantly as we did PT exercises. Dr. Sarah is like a magician for the musculoskeletal system! Thank you so much!
Fantastic experience: tl;dr: a couple of knee injuries got me to finally seek help and answers for why I keep getting injured recently. i have been very satisfied by LPI's services for helping my injured body parts recover and for giving me the knowledge to better prevent injury in the future. highly recommend. --- Long review --- I play basketball, and in recent years it seems like I'm more injury-prone. I would hurt myself doing moves I used to do regularly. Blowing by a defender? Could be dangerous. Post-up spin move? Practically gambling. I'm in my twenties, and it just bothered me a lot that it felt like my body was fragile. Finally had a couple injuries around the knee areas (not all because of basketball) which compelled me to get PT. I wanted to get fixed up properly for once, but, more importantly, I also wanted to get educated. What is going on, and how do I stop it?? Had a consultation with Ben, and he assigned Dr. Sarah Powner to me because she used to play basketball too. Great! For anyone who's never done PT, usually the sessions with Dr. Sarah went something like this: - I give a verbal update from me on how my body was doing - she does some quick tests to assess what was going on - she teaches me new exercises to address the current issues (this takes up most of the session time) Dr. Sarah is a great listener and is very knowledgeable. She would always explain what she thought was happening with my body and how the exercises will help. If I didn't really get it, I would ask her more questions, and she would diligently answer them until it made sense to me. This I was very grateful for because this was the education I was looking for. I worked with Dr. Sarah and LPI for about 8 months in 2023. I learned a lot about how the body works and, more importantly, how *my* body works. How some ways I've moved throughout my life have led to the injuries I've sustained. For instance, I probably don't use my butt muscles enough, putting too much of the work on my knees. I highly recommend LPI if you are in need of physical therapy!
Fantastic experience: Due to a recent incident that caused severe lower back pain, I was looking on yelp for a local Physical Therapist and came across this business with great reviews and decided to call them up and schedule an appointment. The onboarding process was quick, seamless, straight to the point and I was able to get scheduled in not long after. Dr. Ben, Bryant, and rest of the LPI staff are all caring individuals, who have a passion in what they do. They will focus on your problem areas and won't be satisfied until the patient is satisfied with the results. What separates their practice from others is their ability to dig into the root cause(s) of the issue, rather than provide a temporary solution. Definitely 100% give this business a shot if you've been dealing with problematic pain or discomfort that you haven't found the solution elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Dr. Powner and her team were professional, thorough and had excellent customer service. I had atraumatic lower back pain that impacted my ability to workout. I had tried PT through my insurance with no results. From the first session, I felt confident that Dr. Powner knew what she was doing. She provided a comprehensive assessment and plan at each visit and gave me detailed "homework" to continue her plan between visits. Her sessions provided a framework for me to continue my fitness and health journey. I am truly grateful for all her help. Dr. Powner and her team are worth every penny and I recommend their services without any reservation.
Fantastic experience: Dr Sarah is one of the most knowledgeable physical therapists I have come across who has an in-depth understanding of what is going on with your aches and pains after initial assessment & was quickly able to show results with first exercise, that’s experience and knowledge put to practice. Folks, LPI has a great team that will help you find alternative treatment that workslooking forward to my next appointment.
Fantastic experience: This is a first-class physical therapy clinic. They didn't just focus on my recovery from injury but on better long term mobility and movement. Over the summer I injured both calves while training for a half marathon. I had to stop running for awhile, which I hated having to do. At family practice I was advised to ice and rest, but I needed more than that. I started checking local reviews and came across LPI, and one of their reviews was by an older runner, like me, and that person's journey through physical therapy was successful, so it convinced me to check them out myself. I live in the IE, and I chose to bypass many other closer places to go to LPI for help. From the first phone consult I found them to be professional and serious about getting me back to running. Dr Sarah worked with me over several visits to figure out root causes and try exercises and assess progress. She is an awesome person who truly wants to help her clients and there was no time wasted from my arrival at each appointment until it ended. Nothing was rushed either. I am grateful for that. She was very authoritative when it came to knowledge about how the body moves, gets injured, and how it can heal. She asked many, many questions at the start of each visit and tailored things to my specific case - definitely not a cookie-cutter approach. After each visit I noticed the exercises got even more specific and the results came more quickly. She was very tenacious and kind of treated it almost like a mystery or an investigation, which I thought was cool. I was also assigned at-home exercises, which were not easy, but got easier the more I did them. At the end of things my overall movement was better, I had stronger, more healed calves, and we did several assessments to clear me for a safe to return to running and I am running now. In my visits, I saw other clients too, all age groups, all focused on getting better. The pricing was reasonable, and I felt I got very good value for the money. I highly recommend them. They can help you.
Fantastic experience: I have been suffering from Achilles tendinopathy since 2/2019. I play competitive badminton which requires a lot of lower body strength and my Achilles became the weakest link. After going through over 4 rounds of physical therapy with each lasting over 2 months, I still struggled to be injury-free. With numerous flare-ups in 4 years, I almost lost confidence in the fight against this injury and got used to limping for a week every 2-3 months. This year 7/2023, I was referred to Dr. Ben by a friend and decided to try him out. Dr. Ben did a series of examinations on my body and pointed out that, due to bad habits while limping, I shut off some of the muscle groups (inner thigh, hamstring, and most importantly, the hip) and thus my lower leg had to do all the work when I need to accelerate or decelerate. As a result, my ankle was much more vulnerable. It took us four months of bi-weekly visits to get myself back to almost where I was before the injury. Things that I am most grateful for include: closely guiding my exercise movements during the visits with emphasis on which muscle groups to contract and which ones to relax (many of these exercises were so hard at the beginning, and I felt my muscles burn for the very first time, another indication of those muscles have been sleeping for so long); availability by text off-visit; always ready to answer my questions about the human body, such as why the motion should be this way not the other, which muscle group am I working on and why. I'd recommend Dr.Ben to anyone who struggles to get back to normal, especially those athletes like me whose injuries got in the way of improving sports performance.
Fantastic experience: I had been neglecting my back pain for far too long, until it became unbearable. Discovering LPI on my Instagram feed seemed serendipitous, signaling it was time to address my physical health. From the outset, Ben and his team made the process effortless. Despite being considerably out of shape, they made me feel welcomed and at ease. My poor posture and habits had finally taken their toll, but Ben confidently assured me that with the appropriate treatment plan, a pain-free future was attainable. The initial consultation was a revelation. Ben, Bryant, and the entire team showcased an impressive expertise in human anatomy and its intricacies. They enlightened me about areas of my body I never realized I could control, identifying the core cause of my pain and equipping me with exercises to amend my posture. Throughout my experience, the support was palpable, as if the entire team was cheering me on. The blend of their profound knowledge and unwavering encouragement helped me overcome my challenges. I tip my hat to this remarkable team for their genuine care and dedication.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been to five different PTs for various sports injuries, and Gary Chen was without question the best. After I dislocated my elbow in a wrestling match, he helped me get range of motion and strength back ASAP. Gary is clearly knowledgeable in his field, and explained everything so I understood the purpose of the different exercises he assigned me. When I had issues with my hip, I went to Gary and he was able to assess the problem and correct it. Given that I’ve been to two other PTs for recurrent hip pain who weren’t able to figure out the cause, I was very impressed. One of my teammates asked me if Gary was aware of how much I loved him, because every single time I talked about my physical therapy, I started off with “I love Gary, he’s the best.” I wholeheartedly recommend Gary Chen for any PT needs. He is friendly, supportive, highly knowledgeable, and overall fantastic at his job.
Fantastic experience: I had the chance to work with Sarah for some acute low back issues, that had started to impact my sleep and daily lifeShe was amazing to work with. She was very thorough during her evaluation yet was able to identify the issues quickly. The education, treatment, and guidance she provided me was critical and she was able to get me back to normal and decrease my pain within 3 sessions. I highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Sarah is amazing - she quickly diagnosed and treated a misalignment that was deemed untreatable to several other physiotherapists. As a result, my pain decreased significantly in just 2-3 weeks and I was back and work (and travelling) comfortably much more quickly than I thought possible. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Ben and the team at LPI are excellent. They helped me through a variety of issues stemming from imbalances including knee, hip, and should pain. The team is detail oriented, focused, and attentive during sessions. I particularly appreciated the test, re-test methodology to ensure the exercises selected are actually making a difference. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the incredible experience I had with Longevity & Performance Institute, specifically for its miraculous impact on my elbow. After weeks of suffering from debilitating elbow pain, I decided to seek professional help, and little did I know that it would be a life-changing decision. Ben and crew tailored treatment plan they created was nothing short of remarkable. Thanks again
Fantastic experience: Sarah has been helping me since March from my ACL recovery. Although the journey is not over, she has been there for every step and milestone. Thank you for helping me get back to myself. Hope to continue the strong progress.
Fantastic experience: I discovered Sarah and the exceptional team at LPI while searching for answers to my knee discomfort. Although my knee pain wasn't hindering my daily activities, I sensed it wasn't normal and sought a physical therapy clinic I could trust to offer sustainable care and address my preventative concerns before the discomfort escalated. LPI not only met my expectations but exceeded them. Sarah exhibited a genuine interest in my well-being from the beginning. She didn't merely inquire about my knees as a formality. At the start of each session, she invested time in asking questions and truly listening to my experiences and concerns. This level of dedication to providing quality care was evident in her patience and adaptability in pinpointing the root cause of my problems, as well as her readiness to tailor my care to meet my specific needs. Thanks to Sarah and the team at LPI, I can now confidently pursue my interests, from figure skating to climbing and participating in workout classes, without worrying about knee discomfort. My time with Sarah not only granted me a deeper understanding of how my body moves but also equipped me with personalized exercises and tools to maintain healthy knees on my own. I'm immensely grateful to LPI for enabling me to continue engaging in these physical activities that are not only health-promoting but also profoundly meaningful to me.
Fantastic experience: I went to go see Ben and the LPI team for what felt like a pinched nerve in my neck that I suffered while at the gym. I had a lot of trouble sleeping because of the pain, and I was basically immobile. The LPI team worked their magic and I was up and running (and mostly pain free) within 1 hour. I was entirely back to normal within a day. The team is highly knowledgeable and deeply familiar with the interconnectedness of the body, and I'm confident that there isn't an issue too big for them to solve. Highly, highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: Not all PT(s) or programs are built the same. LPI is exceptional. After weeks, months, or years of discomfort, like myself, its likely that many people go straight to Google and fitness influencer advice to address their pain or discomfort. Maybe a good place to start, but success was never a possibility. A simple visit to Ben and Bryant at CPI made it exceedingly clear why self diagnosing and treatment is unproductive at best, and counterproductive at worse. In less then one session, Ben and Bryant had a deep understanding of my unique issues and goals. They developed individualized corrective exercise regiment , and had the care and patience to coach me with an eagle eye. I learned from Ben tiny nuances of understanding and implementing these exercises CORRECTLY is absolutely critical and cannot be understated. It made all the difference in the world. What I thought was normal or correct was completely wrong. We went to work. The exercises were simple, but not easy because of all the bad habits i developed. Little things like breathing correctly were challenging. I needed Ben and Bryant to continuously, even borderline incessantly, correct errors and movement optimizations that were wholly unnoticed by me. I noticed a marked improvement after each session and I continue to improve. I wish I could they could train at the gym with me, because I noticed myself reverting now and again, however, the lessons they instilled in me call back and I've never felt better. Our bodies are designed to adapt and compensate. Unfortunately, we tend to perpetuate poor form and strengthen the wrong muscles to "overcome" our discomfort, e.g. my back is weak and hurts so I should work out my back more. Its like watering a rose garden filled weeds, instead of just pulling the weeds out. Thank you Ben and Team at LPI ! My vigor for physical fitness and pushing harder without fear of injury is at an all time high! Aside from the results, the LPI team makes the process human. The level of care, conversation, patience, encouragement, and confidence made physical therapy enjoyable, and working out is fun again! I highly recommend engaging with them.
Fantastic experience: If you are hesitant... GIVE LPI A TRY: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I spent 5+ years putting off my knee pain that comes and goes. It was after a few episodes of knee pains led to the unbearable pains at hips and ankle over the course of years + feeling pain after going into gyms, it was when I had really decided to start taking care of my body. And I AM SO GLAD that LPI was the first help I got. Their ideology of NOT being part of the insurance system might felt expensive/scary at first, but that is how they can give through examinations and exercises. Even though I had to pay out of the pocket, the quality of help I received I believe is totally worth the money. The exercises that Dr. Sarah gave me tremendously managed the pain on the spot, and the more dedicated and consistent I followed the exercise plan at home, the better I feel and stronger & confident I feel in the gym. For those who are struggling on the financial side, they do packages of sessions and it is more worth then single sessions. Because for a period of time I felt reserved/guilty spending a good chunk of money on Physical Therapy, but I had to remind myself the importance of my health and I would feel much more free and capable when the pain is in control. Truly THANK YOU, Sarah, Bryant, and Ben, for guiding me to a pain-free life.
Fantastic experience: So fortunate to have the opportunity of working with Dr.Sarah at LPI!! I cannot express my gratitude enough for the exceptional care and support I received throughout my treatment. I had some underlying lower back issues that has been negatively impact my performance. Dr. Sarah's extensive knowledge and expertise were evident. She took the time to thoroughly assess my condition and develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to my needs. Throughout my sessions, Sarah displayed a remarkable level of patience and encouragement. She introduced different exercise and lifestyle advices to me to reduce back pains and to prevent future issues. Thank you so much - can't recommend enough!
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend the team at LPI! I came to LPI with pain in my SI joint (after a couple of unsuccessful chiro appts) and just after the initial session, I felt so much better. As the sessions went on, Dr. Sarah (who is amazing btw) was able to help me pin point additional issues that were causing pain throughout my body (shoulder, lower back, ankle). What I appreciated the most was how educational each session was. I had a billion questions each time and Dr. Sarah was so patient with me and explained what was going on in my body in a very clear way + provided feedback on what I should be doing during my workouts. Not only was I able to walk away pain free, but I had gained a lot of knowledge that I'm sure will be helpful in the future. After each session, the team updates a shared doc with all of the exercises we talked about so I could do them at home. The atmosphere is also great! You can tell the team likes to work with each other and everyone is super friendly. If you're looking to fix a specific problem or aren't even sure where the problem is coming from, I really recommend LPI!
Fantastic experience: First off, just want to say that finding LPI and getting treatment from them has been one of the best decisions for myself. I started running in June 22' and had recently come up on some knee pain and discomfort following my first half-marathon in January, where I was experiencing pain in the outer part of my right knee. I was having pain 20 minutes into my runs, going up and down stairs, as well as sleeping when there was any resistance against my knee. I had another half-marathon coming up in May and my goal with Dr. Sarah was to get through my training and start the race pain-free. Dr. Sarah was extremely knowledgeable and did an incredible job of evaluating my needs throughout the several weeks I received treatment. Providing me with exercises that not only strengthened my weak points but also helped with any imbalances that I may have had. After a couple weeks of doing the exercises I was able to run pretty much pain free and we started to focus a bit more on strength training in the following sessions. We finished my final PT session confident going into the race and I was able to PB in the half-marathon feeling stronger than the last. I can confidently say that I would not have felt as strong if not for the help of Sarah and the whole LPI team. Appreciate everything that their team has done and would not hesitate to refer anyone if they ever needed any physical therapy!
Fantastic experience: I am an amateur Olympic weightlifter and I have been doing it for a while, but about a year ago, I hurt my lower back pretty bad. I was really in need of some help and found LPI. Ben, the owner and main physical therapist, along with his colleagues Bryant and Sarah, were my go-to team, and I can't thank them enough! When I first started, they told me that one side of my pelvis was a bit forward, making my posture and movements asymmetrical. Ben and his team were super helpful and gave me exercises to do before and after my workouts. After just one session, my pain was way less and I couldn't believe it! The initial goal was to get rid of the pain, but the sessions made me understand that keeping up with these exercises would help me in the long run. Ben, Bryant, and Sarah know their stuff! They explained everything really clearly, showing me what was wrong and how to fix it. Even though we were doing virtual sessions, they showed me the movements really well. I really appreciated how patient and understanding they were. They really cared about helping me get better. I would totally recommend LPI Therapy to anyone looking for physical therapy services. They're knowledgeable, friendly, and really care about helping you out. My experience with them was awesome, and I'm really grateful for all their help and support. If you need physical therapy, definitely check them out!
Fantastic experience: Late last year I sought out LPI to help me with mobility issues and chronic pain I was experiencing. If you’re on the fence about reaching out or starting a plan with them, I hope this review changes your mind. My left ankle was experiencing excruciating shooting pains, while my back and shoulders were also reoccurring injuries. I called initially to inquire about services and Dr. Ben was incredibly patient and forward thinking with options for treatment after I described all of my physical ailments. He paired me up with Dr. Sarah and Dr. Bryant and over the course of my 6 month plan, they were amazing and so supportive in my recovery process. It takes patience and consistency to make any kind of improvements, and they understand this. I truly believe this is why I was able to improve. Unlike other physical therapy practices, LPI provides focused treatments for their patients with no intent of just addressing symptoms but changing quality of life through exercises and movements that help the body heal and reduce pain. I’m happy to say, after years of deferring from running and practicing Jiu Jitsu, I feel better than I have in years and am able to move and practice again. Thanks Dr. Sarah for working with me and helping me get back to the things I love.
Fantastic experience: 100% worth it. I’m a runner and I came in with Achilles tendinitis I got while training for a marathon. Dr. Sarah did an incredibly thorough assessment to identify weak spots and imbalances contributing to the condition. After several weeks I was feeling stronger and better than ever and soon PRd on a 5K and a half-marathon. Her work did wonders!
Fantastic experience: I was referred to LPI by a friend to address my chronic neck pain and upper back pain, which had been bothering me for over a decade. Despite trying various treatments like acupuncture, physical therapy, and chiropractic, none of them provided a permanent solution. However, my experience at LPI was nothing short of exceptional. In my very first session with Ben, he was able to alleviate my neck pain from an 8/10 to 0 through some breathing exercises. What was even more remarkable was that these exercises were different from any other treatment I had received before. Ben explained to me that to completely resolve my issue, I had to consistently practice the exercises he gave me. I followed his instructions diligently, and within a few months, we were able to completely eliminate the pain. Impressed by the results, I referred my mother and wife to LPI for their chronic knee pain, and we were all amazed by the meticulous treatment and care provided by Ben, Sarah, and Bryant. They made it their priority to give us individual attention, providing full-hour one-on-one or sometimes two-on-one sessions with Dr. Ben Yu or Dr. Sarah. Their dedication and efforts in helping the patient achieve the best possible result is what sets LPI apart from other physical therapists. Overall, I highly recommend LPI to anyone who's struggling with chronic pain. They offer exceptional care, and their innovative approach towards resolving pain issues is truly remarkable. Thank you, LPI team, for making me and my family pain-free and feeling great!
Fantastic experience: I recently had the pleasure of receiving treatment at this physical therapy clinic and I cannot speak highly enough of the experience. Sarah and Bryant were incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout my entire treatment. From the initial evaluation to the final session, my physical therapists were invested in my progress and worked with me to develop a personalized treatment plan that addressed my specific needs. I had been experiencing shoulder + neck pain for a number of years, often exacerbated by pulling and loading movements like power cleans and front squats. After about 6 sessions and doing prescribed exercises at home, I've stopped experiencing pain and any kind of discomfort. Most importantly, I'm able to lift and exercise confidently without having that gnawing fear of potentially injuring myself again. The clinic itself was clean, organized, and had a welcoming atmosphere. I felt comfortable and at ease during each session, and I appreciated the attention to detail and the focus on ensuring that each session was productive and effective. Overall, I would highly recommend this physical therapy clinic to anyone who is experiencing pain or injury. The staff truly goes above and beyond to ensure that their patients receive the best possible care, and I am so grateful for the progress I made thanks to their expertise and support.
Fantastic experience: This is the best physical therapy place I have ever been to. I had a bulging disc and they got me to 100% without any surgery. At the end they also showed me what I did wrong with my lifts and how to correct my form.
Fantastic experience: Dr Sarah approached my foot pain with a very thoughtful, customized plan. I finished with feeling stronger and pain-free.
Fantastic experience: The entire staff at Longevity & Performance Institute are incredible to work with. They are extremely knowledgable and created a comfortable and supportive environment during what can be a very vulnerable moment in life. My time working with the LPI team has drastically improved my quality of life and I cannot recommend them more highly.
Fantastic experience: This review is long overdue. I chose LPI due the 100% positive reviews that they have garnered over the years, and they definitely live up to their reputation! TL;DR They are fantastic and have helped both my family and me in injury recovery and pain management. I scheduled my first session in March after my ACL reconstruction surgery and Ben, Bryant, Sarah, and Gary were instrumental to my recovery process. Not only is my surgically repaired knee now healthier and stronger than ever, I have also learned so much about functional movements and muscle control during the process. We got down to the root causes of my ACL tear and trained in a way that would prevent injuries in the future. The team at LPI not only cares about getting you back to 100% but also strives to inspire you to work hard to achieve a healthier lifestyle. Their positive attitudes helped me tick off goals month by month, from being bedridden to getting back into my sport. I cannot thank them enough, so please take some time to check them out!
Fantastic experience: My shoulder had been intermittently hurting for about a year before I found LPI. I knew there was something wrong with my shoulder, but couldn't really figure out what was causing the pain. Finally having tried to PT it on my own I found LPI. I am so happy I did. My first session the Ben and Bryant were thorough in their evaluation of my shoulder. Not only did they diagnose the problem, they also began treatment. The plan they gave me was not only to improve the symptoms of my issue, but also to give me exercise that would make sure I wouldn't relapse. I left the firs session convinced I found the place that could put me on the road to recovery. Each session after that, they began with a brief evaluation and would track progress. At first, each new exercise they gave me felt impossible, but with their coaching, I was able to learn and use the exercises to rehab my shoulder. Not only did my shoulder improve over the course of the PT secession, but I noticed other improvements in posture and breathing. I finished my PT about a month ago. I miss going to LPI, Ben and Bryant are great! I know where I will go if I need PT for another issue in the future.
Fantastic experience: Finding the right PT is the key to getting the right treatment for your health and recovery. I have gone to at least 4 different physical therapists from San Gabriel, IE, and OC. My experience in network PTs has not been successful. They see multiple patients, concurrently. You don’t get that one on one attention. Because the PTs were not present during the program exercise, body form couldn’t be monitored leading to failed program results. If you are serious about your well being, Ben can help. He is out of network, but that is the better option. I have gone to 3 PTs out of network for my Sciatica/Piriformis and know there’s a significant difference with service and care. Ben provides the one on one attention which is crucial to recovery progress. After my shoulder surgery, I did multiple sessions with him and am happy to report I feel almost 100% back to pre-surgery. He offers a variety of financial options and plans depending on what you need. Ben also addressed my chronic issue of my Sciatica/Piriformis, SI joint. Ben is genuine in finding/treating my difficult issues. He researches and consults with other professionals to ensure no stone was left unturned. Ben has accompanied me to these appointments to understand the evaluation and corroborate with the others for a more in-depth program for recovery. If you are looking for a PT that truly has your best interest at heart, you can stop looking. Ben is that person. He offers custom program to what your needs are. Great facilities since it in a CrossFit building, nice to have a varieties of equipment to do your rehab and get back to normal. Reality is - Don’t expect to get results, if you don’t put in the work. Ben can help navigate and get you the recovery/treatment you need.
Fantastic experience: My back was in a bad place. Ben helped me alleviate pain as well as identify and fix the underlying problem. Going on 6 months pain free, back to an active lifestyle. Thanks Ben.
Fantastic experience: Ben is a true learner, always iterating and always humble enough to try something different. This is the characteristic of what we should expect from our physical therapists. I’ve been to my fair share of physical therapists. Some are too by the book, rigid in their approach. Others are too lax, and do not keep you accountable. The reality is any significant change takes consistent applied effort, and Ben and his team enable that in their clients. I have had an “outward angled” right foot for as long as I can remember, and this has been particularly annoying for me on any single leg activity, especially skiing. Ben immediately identified I had a weakness in my right glute, and more specifically I wasn’t even breathing correctly in a way that would give a platform for my hips to function correctly. It’s taken a ton of work but I’m feeling stronger and more aligned than ever. And yes, this was almost all remote! Come here if you want real change, even from a behavioral perspective. Don’t come if you don’t expect to work, because you probably don’t care enough. Highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Ben and company are hands down the best psychical therapists I ever had in my life. They apply genuine top level care which gave me confidence with my body and pain free lifestyle. This was all done over tele-medicine with me being in the UK. I’ll be definitely coming back in the future if I need to and recommend his team wholeheartedly. Additional information: 7 years ago I dislocated my shoulder playing soccer and never got surgery. I seen multiple physical therapist but their treatment never gave me confidence in my shoulder to play soccer again and always ended up with terrible back pain that would make me immobile for a few days at time, happening multiple time of the year. Finally, I decided to see Ben based on all the raving reviews that I heard about him. From the first session, I already believed that this was going to be different from the other therapists I seen. He deeply wanted to understand what was my underlying issues and if he can potentially treat me. It was a very genuine approach which made me feel safe. Once we started treatment, his team always were very attentive to understand my progress and would adapt my treatment based on the situation. Eventually, I got to a point where I was healed and the treatment came to an end. They ensured I was healed and gave me a plan to continue to follow. It was such a genuine and life changing experience.
Fantastic experience: I've been an avid runner for some time now, but over the past few years I noticed knee pain on my right side. This moved me to give up running and shift towards lower impact exercises to get my cardio. This was not ideal, especially given that lower impact cardio creates a dependency on equipment and I live in a smaller space. I started working with Ben during the beginning of the pandemic. As such, our sessions were fully via video. Ben spent the first session setting goals, diagnosing my treatment, and really getting to know my body. I left the first session with a few very basic exercises to strengthen target specific muscle groups. As each session went on, he introduced additional exercises and continued to check back on my goals and any potential improvements or impediments, taking time to adjust the program as needed and in real time. During the course of our sessions there were many times where I could not perform some of the exercises / stretches that Ben had recommended initially, but Ben & crew were extremely patient and able to cater the program to what was effective and do-able for me. Again, all through video! As the sessions went on, I started feeling the muscle groups we were specifically targeting kick in more and more as I attempted to run outside again. First week or so, with some knee discomfort, but over time, no more knee pain at all, despite longer distances on cement in uphill and downhill conditions. Ben has taught me a ton about my body and how to take care of it properly. I highly recommend Ben & crew!
Fantastic experience: I started seeing Ben earlier this year to look at my chronic lower back pain. I've had lower back pain for about 5 years now, and it was getting progressively worse. I couldn’t enjoy hikes or vacations anymore because I always needed to find somewhere to sit and had to constantly take Advil. The final straw was when I started to wake up every morning before my alarm went off because of the pain in my back. During our very first session, it was very clear that Ben was actually trying to diagnose the cause of my back pain instead of only treating the pain - which was always my experience with doctors and chiropractors. We went through a questionnaire, did an assessment, and he quickly identified that my tight/over-worked quads and under-worked hamstrings was the primary cause of my lower back pain. The best part was that he broke down the mechanical and physiological reasons for how and why muscles in my legs would impact my lower back. At the end of the session, Ben developed a treatment plan and at home exercises for me to do and I saw immediate results that week - I was being woken up by my alarm again. I continued to see Ben throughout the course of our treatment plan and every visit and set of home exercises that were given to me were tailored and tweaked for my needs based on how my body was reacting and strengthening throughout the treatment. Now at the end of my treatment plan I can say that my back pain is gone, I'm doing long hikes again, and I can't wait for the next long vacation. I 100% recommend Ben for anyone that's had any kind of chronic pain that they just can't kick.
Fantastic experience: Over the spring, I developed an Achilles' Tendon issue in my right foot, possibly due to a break I took from running and then ran too much too soon in minimalist shoes. The first time I went in to see Ben I wasn't sure what to expect. Being a runner who's very interested in optimizing the foot's function, I was worried that he would tell me to go back to wearing shoes that had a high drop and would squish my feet (because I have fairly wide feet). To my surprise and delight, Ben said that I could stay in the shoes I had (since I was more comfortable in them) and that we would work to get me strong enough to run in them. Though this would take longer (because my feet and legs would have to gain quite a bit of strength in different ways in order to run in the minimalist shoes), Ben didn't hesitate to work with me towards the goal I wanted to achieve (fix my Achilles' Tendinitis and make sure that it doesn't happen again while getting strong enough to run safely and comfortably in the minimalist shoes). At first, we went through a process of trying different exercises (within the realm of what was appropriate to the issue at hand) and seeing the response I had, making note of what worked for me and what didn't. We then settled into a routine where when I came in, I would explain how the previous week's runs were, describing how the pain was before, during, and after the runs, and if there was anything different. Then we would work on building up with specific exercises while also building strength in the muscles that would keep me from getting injured again. This way, Ben could see my progress over time and adjust as we went along depending on how my recovery was going. Of course, with Covid going on, there were many weeks where I'd feel far from ready to tackle the challenge of physical therapy or of running. Often I would just go ahead and tell Ben how I was feeling and he'd get me through it, again adapting to what I needed each day while still keeping in contact with the overall continuum of the recovery process. As a runner, I’m also pretty into getting my running form as good as I can. This was an early concern that I’d mentioned to Ben and he happily worked it into our recovery program, noting that improving this would help with my recovery anyway. Over the recovery process, Ben taught me the necessary tools needed for me to keep up my recovery and then continue on to getting back to running as normal, and start building up on that. I’m also a very technical person. I like to try to understand what’s going on in different situations in as much detail as possible. Ben gladly explained to me the details of why we were doing a particular exercise and how that connected with everything else or what was going on with respect to some pain I was feeling on any given day and though I didn’t always understand the details at first, I could always ask for clarification. Many times I would come in with a new theory of how to get myself to run properly and I would run it past Ben (no pun intended) and he would explain why I was on the right track or why my theory may not work quite as I had imagined it. Overall, working with Ben was great! I’m very happy and lucky that I was able to have him as my physical therapist, helping me to recover back to running every day. I would (and have) recommended him to anyone who’s looking for a physical therapist.
Fantastic experience: Dr Yu is one of the best practitioners i've ever seen. I've seen over a dozen physical therapists. I've been dealing with back pain for 6 years. Dr Yu treats not only for temporary relief but more importantly for long term sustainability. I'm healthier than i've ever been. If you're looking to stop trying short cuts. Come see Dr Yu.
Fantastic experience: I was referred to Ben by multiple people in the Crossfit community. I was hesistant at first since I've been to other PTs and haven't seen much progression from going. However, I'm very glad to have the opportunity to get my injury checked out by him. I went to the first session with Ben and it was a great experience. He was very great at communicating where my injury was and that it stemmed from multiple points. We worked together on multiple sessions and I'm very proud to say that my back is so much better. Getting up out of bed, working out, and just living my life pain-free. I highly recommend him to anyone who can get the chance to see him!
Fantastic experience: In order to prepare for my first triathlon back in 2019, I had completely changed my method of exercise that was primarily centered around weightlifting and CrossFit, to a more cardio/distance based regimen. My first injury was a result of over running without proper build up and mechanics. I used to only run 1-2 miles max a week but was now putting up about 15-20 miles a week. My foot would go in and out of blinding pain where I wouldn't be able to put any weight on at all. There was also bruising that formed which made me consult my primary care physician. She quickly looked at it and told me I most likely have tendonitis and that I should stop training for the time being and rest my foot. I knew I couldn't take too much time off and was worried about my performance during the race, so I got a free physical therapy phone consultation from Dr. Yu. We scheduled time to meet and I knew immediately I would get a proper evaluation and it came down to the simple things. After having a really good discussion with Dr. Yu around what I was training for, how I was training and then drilling down into the source of the pain, which at that point was about a 7 or 8 out of 10 when walking, Dr. Yu immediately went to work by getting his hand on my feet, which my primary care physician never did. He was able quickly identify the source of the pain point, which wasn't a result of tendonitis, but actually a dis-located joint in my foot, made the adjustment and like that, the pain had quickly subsided to about a 1 out of 10. After another session I was pain free and ready to compete in my tri. He walked me through the mechanics of what I was doing to my body and how I could course correct in the future. Without Dr. Yu and his physical therapy, I would have been out of commission for my triathlon and most likely nursing and tending to the pain and not actually addressing the source of the injury. Would highly recommend Dr. Yu!
Fantastic experience: I've worked with Ben for my knee issues, and he's been great. I've visited at least 3 other physical therapists, and I have gotten better results from him than anybody else. He gives you personalized attention, and makes sure you're making progress. He also gives "gentle accountability" towards doing your PT exercises. I highly recommend him.
Fantastic experience: Ben is the best! He treated a lower back issue I had been suffering from for five months, which did not respond to other modalities and practitioners. My lower back pain actually progressed into pain radiating down my right thigh, and it was interfering with work and my active lifestyle. While other therapists/specialists could not help me, Ben not only diagnosed me correctly, but also reduced my pain from 7, to 2 out of 10 on my very first visit. And after just one week of following his prescribed therapies, I was finally moving around pain-free. What sets him apart from the other practitioners is that he's extremely knowledgeable and comprehensive in his approach-- he has a deep understanding of the human anatomy and how all the body parts are interrelated/connected. He took the time to explain to me in detail why I was having pain and what I could do every day to make it better. It was actually very eye-opening and insightful! If you're looking for a physical therapist, don't look any further! My experience with Ben was a 10/10 and I recommend him to all my friends and family.
Fantastic experience: I got into a bicycle accident and flipped over my handlebars, landing on my left elbow. Luckily, I was wearing a helmet which saved me from a lot worse. My left elbow, wrist, and forearm were all bruised up with very limited range of motion and tons of pain and aches. I knew I had to turn to physical therapy to get things back to normal. I found the best physical therapist, Benjamin Yu, for the job. He helped me locate the source of my pain (radial nerve, mostly) very quickly, and I want to mention this was all done through telehealth! He had me go through specific motions, palpations, extensions, flexions, with a series of questions to clearly and deliberately locate the source of my pain. It was very obvious to Ben where my pain was coming, so he knew exactly which exercises I needed to do to get my pain levels down and get my range of motion back, treating the root of the issue. The first few sessions I did not have any equipment to help with the therapy, but that was okay, because Ben knew how to get me going without it. We started off with stretches first to help with getting my range of motion back and allowing for more lymphatic drainage. This allowed me more time to buy some equipment (resistance bands, and some light weights) to help strengthen my joint, ligaments, muscles and relieve the pressure off the banged up nerve. Honestly, it's been great. I feel back to normal, but with more knowledge and confidence. I cannot recommend him enough!
