Negative experience: On the plus side the place was clean, but it was poorly staffed at night. Biggest issue was missing a potential stroke - didn’t call 911 for over an hour. This was inexcusable. I would be very careful about putting a loved one there.

Fantastic experience: I had tremendous care from the physical therapists and the occupational therapists. The RNs were very helpful, and a lot of the CNAs were great. The administration was very attentive with our questions and concerns. The support staff were always friendly!!

Fantastic experience: My father has been at the felicity for over 45 days. I have to say the care and the way the staff treats him is exceptional!! As my father is getting ready to make his transition in life, it has been very hard on our family. I want to say thank you to the whole staff for caring for my father with love and compassion. Eric really took to the time to go over all our options with our family. He was kind and showed a lot of compassion to us and we will not forget it! We just want to say thank you to the whole team from front desk, CNA's, nurses and staff!! It takes a special person to work and care for the elderly. Thank you from the Hansmeyer Family!

Fantastic experience: The entire staff there is wonderful. They are kind and compassionate and take wonderful care of their residents. It gives such a peace of mind knowing they are taken care of and are busy with fun activities. It is not only the nursing staff that cares for the patients, every person in the building is caring, friendly and outgoing. They are a small village and all take care in the residents. Each and everyone are a credit to your professional and should be very proud of your care.

Negative experience: I have dealt with them personally and professionally. I did not care for the service they gave my mom. Her room was freezing cold and they would not do anything to correct that. I'm glad she did not have to stay there long. On a professionally level they called the company I worked for to fix a serious plumbing issues and they still haven't paid the bill, they won't repond to us or even contact us to resolve the matter.

Negative experience: Had my Grandfather here for Hospice care (we had to select a facility in a matter of a day or two). The facility is nice, clean, and bright. My Grandfather commented on how good the food was (and the fact you get to choose). The problem is that you CAN NOT get anyone to call you back. If you leave a message for the nursing staff they will never get back to you. The Administrative staff is no better. All we wanted to know is if my Grandfather was OK, call us back in a couple hours - never called. Also, we understand the need to pay 2-weeks up-front. My Grandfather passed after 10 days. We are told that it will take 6 to 8 weeks to get a refund of the unsed time and they can't tell us how much it will be. For them being the most expensive facility in the area, you would expect better than what they provide. With all the positives, would not never use them again.

Positive experience: 90% staff is great, there's a few employees that are stinkers. Food menu has lots of choices. needs improvement on Food comes cool, not warm.

Fantastic experience: the staff from cleaning to the top...these people were the nicest, most accommodating to both my mother and her family....they were always on top of everything and every person there really had compassion as well as top skills...my mamaleh passed away there...and everyone was amzing!! thank you to everyone.

Fantastic experience: My mother has had worsening health in the last several years, and bounced between home, hospitals, and facilities like this one for physical therapy. Avondale Estates of Elgin is the fourth such facility that she went to, and she nearly didn't because the previous three treated her so poorly and hurt more than they helped. I'm very pleased to say that her time at Avondale was much better than her previous experiences. They kept her healthy, were proactive in helping treat her, and physical therapy was actually able to make a significant impact before she had to return home due to the limit of what her insurance would cover for her stay. I would definitely recommend this location when compared to all the others she's experienced thusfar.

Negative experience: Not very cleanly or inviting when it was my first time visiting here. Upon the afternoon I needed someone to take my gpa to the bathroom, I found one cna and asked her to have his cna help, 30 min went by and I found her on her phone in the corner listening to music, she said she didn’t know where her other cna was. I myself helped her gait belt my grandpa in to the bathroom. He hasn’t been taken in so long his dipense , pants, and wheelchair were covered. I went to find the restroom and all the cna’s were sitting downstairs when all the patients are upstairs? I have seen horrible photos of my gpa while staying in here. I would honestly recommend not to come here unless you want your family or friend on becoming to hospice neglected care.

Negative experience: My father was a patient there for not even 24 hours. He had 2 drains coming out of his stomach for drainage/infection drain type things. The nurse or whoever it was pulled it out saying he didn't need it. No Doctor order or anything. I can't speak bad about the rest because he wasn't there long enough. Reconsider this place.

Negative experience: Issues with charges and never seeing a bill. None of loved one's EOBs show anything due but was made to pay $1800 before she was moved to permanent place. Over 4 months trying to find anything out. There is never anyone able to answer questions and emails and messages never get answered. Even had the gall to charge for an emergency room visit caused by one of the staff members not using a hoyer lift correctly!

Negative experience: The staff treats patients very poorly. They were very rough with my grandmother and only gave her one shower in the month that she was there. She also complained about how the food wasn’t even edible.

Negative experience: These people are straight-up incompetent. While the place seems clean, the staff either don't communicate, or they simply DON'T CARE about their jobs and the patients who depend upon them. My grandma was transferred here following a COVID-related illness that lead to her needing more specialized care because she already had Congestive Heart Failure and was high risk. These people apparently barely checked on her while she was in her room, she was able to accidentally fall out of her bed THREE TIMES by my count (it might have been two, it might have been four, but the point is that THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN), my uncle, despite living in Texas, dropped in for visits and found the phone in her room halfway across the room, WELL out of her reach, which might have been the reason that she was able to fall out of bed, possibly trying to get up and answer the phone. In any event, the only reason they're getting 2 stars is because she was able to get transferred out of there and they didn't let her die. I'm disgusted with this place, and, as predicted, the people here allowed some belongings to be left behind "on accident," including her purse. This is a nearly 90-year-old great-grandmother that they're essentially taking advantage of. If they cared so little for their own great grandmother or family member, they'd be ripe for being written out of a will or disowned. Pathetic. These people should be embarrassed and DO SOMETHING ABOUT THEIR UTTER LACK OF ATTENTION TO DETAIL, and more importantly, their patients.

Negative experience: Do NOT send your loved ones to AVONDALE estates. If it were possible to give negative stars it would be appropriate here. My dad needed to be rehabilitated after having COVID. The director Christina lied to my family and assured us that Avondale could handle my dads oxygen needs . This was a LIE. Within 3 days of my dads stay his oxygen level dropped to 50 percent. The therapist that was working with him at the time freaked out and started to scream while my mom was in the room that my dad was going into cardiac arrest. She did not know how to connect the oxygen mask to help my dad. Instead of calling 911 the therapist called my sister to tell her what was happening. At that point my sister insisted that an ambulance come to get him. Since the incident my dad is legitimately traumatized and afraid to move from bed. There are so many other negative aspects of Avondale but the only thing that really matters is that our loved ones are safe and I promise you that this is anything but safe . I called Allison who is in charge of this facility. She is well aware of what happened and promised me a call back that I am still waiting for.

Negative experience: Avoid this facility for rehab patients who require significant support with mobility, communications, and feeding, like my family member. During a two-week rehab stay, I saw multiple times that my family member was stranded in bed, unable to reach the call button for help. Sometimes I would visit and the TV set to very high volume, but with the TV remote put away in a drawer or out of reach. My family member could not vocalize to get support and cannot safely get out of bed to get help. My family member needed 1:1 support to eat after their hospitalization. On one day I visited Avondale at 3:15 to find the lunch tray still there, and my loved one covered in food from trying their best to feed themselves. Multiple times when I visited I saw the kitchen did not deliver all items listed on the tray, unless I was personally there to insist on it, and in one case I could not get the full order even when I asked. I saw this happen so frequently when I was present, that I can only assume it happened also while I was not present, possibly contributing to their weight loss during the rehab stay. This rehab stay was during the height of the Omicron COVID surge, so probably there were staffing challenges. However, the facility should not be admitting patients that they cannot properly care for, and they should be ensuring that the patients they do have, can help support their own care, for example by having a call light always available. I did raise these concerns with the team when I encountered them (and when I could find a staff member at the nursing station), but I saw only limited improvement with these problems over time. This should be a one star review, but there are also talented and caring team members at Avondale (particularly the Speech and Swallow therapy team), and I appreciate their efforts with therapy, support, and comfort of my family member. I am sorry that the overall problems at this facility overshadow their hard work and expertise.

Positive experience: I waited several days and nights in unbearable pain to tears for them to get me ordered pain killers.. There is no one of authority in the building, at all times, just the floor nurse. The others come & go with no schedule for us to follow.. This is a profit making business. The Cnas get minimum wage for caring for 16 patients each. They must provide their own medical supplies to take patients vital signs. So, very long wait periods up to 2 hrs for patients to receive: care, pain pills meds. and toiletry , physical care, trans. to or from Dr appts, bathes, toiletry, etc Then, the wait starts for nurse to responds, if at all. They may also have same problems as aides. A few aides, nurses, cleaning lady, therapists, counselor, & food are for the 3 stars. Really, think twice before coming here!! You will be in the care of the floor nurse who makes all responses. Update: Since this complaint a nurse told me the house Dr was here to see all patients, whom I've never seen. I was not seen and being asked to leave. My care improved though. Hope my voice helps those already here and to come here.

Positive experience: No one answers the phone when calling after 8pm and you MUST call through the receptionist to get to the patient. I let phone ring 40 times no answer. Ridiculous. If this continues I will be reviewing with a 1 or zero star. Father has been there since Friday (3) days and no call from staff or anyone on status or plan. Update: One day after posting this review I spoke with the staff, they explained the receptionist is only on duty until 8:00pm, after that, calls are transferred to the nurses station (which is extremely busy taking care of its patients and I now understand why the don't answer the phone). Had I been informed of this at the start, I would have made my calls before 8:00 and will be doing this going forward. I don't want to bother the very important work the nursing staff is already doing and they are doing a great job. Thank you! I have a much better understanding of what is happening with the care my father is receiving and have since updated my review from 2 stars to 4. Once my father is released, I will again update the rating and further update this review. Thank you to the staff at Avondale for the information you provided to me and my father.

Positive experience: Not great. Service was subpar

Fantastic experience: Finding the right transitional destination for a parent leaving the hospital is fraught with stress and anxiety. We have had a great experience with Avondale, starting with Christina who coordinated the process from the very beginning, and the subsequent staff members who have been equally caring and attentive. The facility is new, airy, and upbeat- their goal is the same as ours, to get our parent to return back home and to their prior level of function and lifestyle. Many thanks for your help.

Negative experience: Never fully staffed. No communication.Garbage over flowing . Horrible place Patients basic needs never addressed. For bring a rehab place and that's all they do its very dissappointing.Whe u leave a rehab after 1 month you should see some improvement not someone who digressed

Negative experience: Do NOT take your loved one here if you want them to live. They overdosed my dad with a medication he was no longer taking... even though I told them he was not taking it anymore. He died less than a week after we rushed him to the emergency room from this facility.

Negative experience: They don’t care if you’re ready to discharge or not. My sister needed therapy and couldn’t get it because they didn’t take her other insurance. They’ll kick you out if your Medicare/insurance is out and don’t take Medicaid like most places do. No money to be made, I guess. Better hope you can make a recovery faster than your insurance allows or when they cut you off, as most do. You’ll have to discharge to another place anyway or pay private. We didn’t think it was great but I see the reviews are from their own workers. My sister is happier at the another rehabilitation center. She’s now ready to come home safely.

Negative experience: My father stayed here after his hospitalization for physical rehab. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and were not greeted or welcomed when we arrived. I didn’t feel that the plan of care was communicated with the whole family, I wasn’t updated as to how he was doing during his 7 days there. It was difficult to get help when needed yet it seemed that staff were sitting around quite a bit. When I would approach the desk I was usually ignored. The single rooms were large and clean but there was no soap in the bathroom so we had to bring our own from home. I would not recommend this facility to others.

Unfortunately it seems like they’re understaffed, my father had to wait to get help to go to the bathroom and I was there to witness it. I also noticed other individuals that needed help but weren’t getting it and were yelling out loud. I’m sure it’s a first come first serve basis of importance but it would be nice if they were staffed more this facility is really beautiful. Fantastic experience: I have been working here for about about two months it’s been a great experience working here. Donna (scheduler) and management are very welcoming and friendly and are there when you need them! I recommend this place to work at!

Fantastic experience: I've been working here at Advondale for around 2 months now, I've never been happier in a work place! The CNA supervisor told me about this place and made some very large promises that have been kept. The members of management are very kind and loving people who do everything to not only look after the guest and there needs but also they encourage staff to reach for higher goals in life! They even encouraged me to go and get my CNA license which I'm in school for now. I'm very blessed to be here and I encourage many other loving people to come and join the team. Every guest leaves here with a smile on their faces and even come back to visit which is an amazing feeling. P.S I would like to thank the Nurses supervisor for helping my achieve my dreams and helping me become a CNA.

Negative experience: Neglected my half-paralyzed father multiple times and “forgot” to turn him in bed, leading to him developing a bed sore, staff are nice but care is lazy and not responsible.

Fantastic experience: I was there for 3 weeks. When I arrived from Sherman Hospital I could not walk. Their nurses and aides are helpful respectful to all patients and really always give 100%. They have the very very best physical and occupational therapy all of the therapist's are exceptional!!!!!

Fantastic experience: I stayed here for 6 wks and was very pleased with the house keepers and therapy staff it's the best therapy by far all the staff are very kind and professional and the place is very clean and there is no smell also they have great activity staff members so your never bored 2 times A day and weekly bus outings VERY happy with this place and would recommend it highly
