We provide a variety of treatments, including computer-assisted exercise called biofeedback. Biofeedback provides patients with a visual tool to learn how to strengthen and/or relax their pelvic muscles as needed. Other treatments include postural, dietary and behavioral modifications as well as an individualized home exercise program. Treatment options vary based on patient preference and need. Conditions treated include, but are not limited to:
Incontinence is a very common problem in childhood. One in five otherwise healthy 5-year-olds and one in seven school-age children are incontinent during the day or night. Enuresis (bedwetting) afflicts 5 to 10% of children below the age of ten years and can also be experienced by older children and teenagers. If a child continues to experience symptoms at 4 years of age or older, active treatment should be considered.
Pelvic floor dysfunction refers to a wide range of problems that occur when the pelvic floor muscles are overactive and in spasm, and are often weak and too tight. The tissue surrounding the pelvic floor organs may have increased sensitivity and irritation or decreased sensitivity, causing the resulting dysfunction seen in children.
We meet with each child and their parent/s or guardian to get a complete history and details of current problems. Then we do an examination of the muscles of the abdomen and pelvis with a parent present. Treatment often consists of:
• Patient and family education on bladder function and its relationship to pelvic floor muscles, bladder health and irritants, the voiding cycle, and controlling urinary urge and bladder retraining
Ideally, the bladder and pelvic floor muscles work opposite each other to successfully urinate. When the bladder muscle contracts, some children do not completely relax their pelvic floor muscles. Their bladder may not empty, and there is still some urine left in the bladder. In order for the bowels to empty, the pelvic floor muscles must relax. Children will learn exercises to relax and engage the pelvic floor muscles at the appropriate time, void and empty completely, and avoid urinary and/or bowel leakage.
Animated surface biofeedback may also be used to teach your child how to relax the pelvic floor muscles while emptying his/her bowel or bladder and strengthen the muscles in between voids.
A specific home program will be developed for your child. Your child will be taught the correct way to use the pelvic floor muscles, which allows them to control elimination.
Therapy continues with your child learning correct postures for toileting, foods that may irritate the bladder, and how to create a regular pattern of filling and emptying the bladder through a toileting schedule. Therapy can help your child achieve dry days and dry nights.
Services and Treatments
Hertel and Brown Physical and Aquatic Therapy: Reviews
Negative experience: Called to inquire about if they perform male pelvic floor therapy for a condition I am suffering from. Receptionist chuckled, said no and did not offer any further assistance or recommendations. Felt very unprofessional like those services were beneath them.
Fantastic experience: Just started going back after 8 months. Mike Brown is a phenomenal physical therapist. After about a month of neck pain daily, I feel a lot better after just one treatment. I will be going weekly.

Fantastic experience: Hertel and Brown for Results I broke my wrist and had to have surgery with a plate and pins. After the cast came off the wrist was locked, finger flexibility severely limited. I couldn't even pick up a pencil. My surgeon's office recommended a UPMC rehab center. When I asked the therapist at my first appointment how long until it was back to normal she told me it will never be back to what it was. I started crying, trying to figure out how I was going to live with an impaired right hand. She took measurements, demonstrated, 5 pages of exercises, and that was it. She spent less than 30 minutes, didn't use heat or manipulation. I've done PT before, everything from that appointment I could've found on the net. I called my adjuster and requested a script change to go to Hertel and Brown instead. All of the therapists are absolutely incredible! They use heat, passive resistance to manually manipulate the wrist and make sure I know how to do my exercises at home. In just three appointments I've seen a tremendous improvement. I know I have a long way to go but they've given me hope of getting my life back and I can't thank them enough
Fantastic experience: It is very rare for me to take the time to write a review on google, in fact this may be my first. That said, my experience with Sarah and the team at the Erie plaza Hertel and Brown has been beyond my expectations. I have for many years suffered from neck pain and tension headache resulting from said pain. The care I have received thus far has been remarkable in improving my quality of life. Specifically, Sarah took great care and interest during my initial visit and subsequent follow up visits actually listening to me describe my issues and being very responsive to my questions it was without a doubt very reassuring and helpful as we discussed my therapy plan and as we continue executing said plan. I have gone an entire week without a severe tension headache and as anyone who suffers from chronic headaches will tell you that is a major life development. I have nothing but thanks and praise for Sarah and the entire team. I highly recommend anyone suffering from the same to stop in and see if it is right for you, I highly doubt you will be disappointed.
Fantastic experience: Very knowledgable! They have created a plan specifically for me of which is focusing on my issue, not just a cookie cutter plan. Already in a short time I am noticing a remarkable difference.
Fantastic experience: Well marked easy to find from the road Offering variety of physical therapy and rehab options for outpt in convenient location. Parking plentiful and free Handicapped parking and wheelchair accessible. Parking also offers electric car charging stations
Negative experience: Nice staff. Just wasn't progressing until I switched.
Fantastic experience: Aaron and the rest of the team are as good as it gets. I came in with a slipped lumbar disk, and with their work and guidance, was back to normal in under two weeks. I wouldn't ever consider going anywhere else for therapy - Hertel and Brown is just fantastic at what they do.
Positive experience: Clean & modern facility...warm and inviting. Friendly, knowledgeable staff...second to none!

Fairview was my fit for my physical therapy and I couldn't be happier
Negative experience: I tried to get an idea of price and the woman on the phone Was no help. And would not answer my billing questions with out me making an appointment. Would not take any info from me.
Fantastic experience: I received amazing care at the office in the West Erie Plaza. I was in for an achilles tendon repair and they helped me fully recover pain free in no time. My therapist Mike was amazing and the facility was very nice. I felt that the staff was prompt and made me feel very welcome.
Fantastic experience: I would like to thank the staff at the Sterrettania office for their exceptional help and encouragement. I came to your staff with a hip disarticulation and a very demanding prosthetic that only allowed me to take six steps at that time. Through their hard work, dedication and patience, I was able to achieve my dream goal of walking down the aisle of my son's wedding and dancing the mother/son dance. I highly recommend your staff to anyone in need of physical rehabilitation need. Thank-you Debbie Huzar
Fantastic experience: There's no complaints here. Everyone is very helpful, knowledgeable, and most of all excited to help. Everyone there was willing to accomadate me even at their busiest. A overall great place, whether they're getting you back to work, on the field, or just to be relieved of pain.
