Palomar Heights Post Acute Rehab: Reviews
Positive experience: My beloved spouse works in that place!
Negative experience: This place desperately needs automatic doors at the entrance. Every time I deliver equipment to this facility, I see people in wheelchairs and walkers struggling to open the doors to enter or exit the facility.
Positive experience: My Dad was a resident here for a short time in 2017. It was a positive experience! The nursing staff was very helpful with keeping me informed. We ended up moving out of the state. The staff was very helpful with the transition of my Dad leaving the facility. I remember the grounds at that time were very welcoming with flowers in the garden.
Fantastic experience: Over the last year, both of my parents have stayed at Palomar Heights on multiple occasions. The Staff and Administration are wonderful. They have shown amazing care for my parents and maintained a stellar line of communication with me. Kudos to PHPA!!!
Toby Truitt, we're happy to hear you had such a positive experience with our team! Thank you so much for taking the time to give your review!
Negative experience: My sister is there and they are totally ignoring her, especially at night. She has called me numerous times crying because they will not give her .pain medication. I have heard every excuse in the book from them. Don't send a love one here

Negative experience: This place is just grim... The smell of despair and death permeates the air with their sickly tinge. Literally I could smell it from the street. Avoid this place at all costs! it should be shut down.
Hi Eirin, Thank you for leaving feedback. Our leadership team has been made aware of this review. Please reach out to our administrator directly at (760) 746-1100 so we may identify ways to improve your experience.
Positive experience: Staff all seemed very professional and organized and nice. Professional setting.
Frank O'Connor, thank you for your kind review; we are happy to pass along your comments to the team here at Palomar Heights Post Acute!
Negative experience:
Pam Flores, we are disappointed to see your low star rating. If you could provide more information to us, we would be more than happy to try and make this situation better.
Negative experience: PHPAR Staff are rude, don't seem to care about their patients, patients there also seem to not have any "patient rights" since they are forced to get out of bed. Housekeepers talk down to patients. To finalize, if you're agency, don't bother picking up shifts here, staff will treat you like they are superior than you and will treat you like garbage.
Elmos Mundo, we regret to hear that you had this experience with us. We would be grateful if you could reach out to our administrator at 760-746-1100.
Negative experience: First day I was there, the nurse gave me my roommates meds. The next week I was there, I spent all my time chasing PT and OT around trying to get the therapy I so desperately needed. Eventually, I did receive limited PT but they lost all of my clothes, new I might add, in their laundry. Last but certainly not least, it would take up to 2-3 hours to get a CNA to help me go to the bathroom and I had to return to the hospital I came from in order to recieve the medications prescribed. A total waste of 2 weeks and I still couldn't walk. Shame on you, Palomar Heights. I wouldn't refer my worst enemy to this Carnival.
Hi Tracy, we appreciate your honest review. We set a high standard for ourselves, so we are disappointed to hear that your experience with us was not a positive one. We encourage you to reach out to our administrator at 760-746-1100 to discuss your experience.
Negative experience: My uncle's health has only deteriorated since being admitted here after a bad stroke, there's constantly changing staff and they're mostly rude when I come by to drop off clothes and other personal effects for my uncle. They're also inattentive to his needs; at one point he was sick for three days with an infection that sent him to the hospital ultimately – they just kept giving him blankets because he was shaking from his illness and all of the medication they would administer. I don't know how they're still in business with how high the employee turn around is.
Rania Higgins, thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We regret that you had a negative experience, and will use this as an opportunity to improve.
Fantastic experience: Great place wish the food was better but they took good care of my pa
Fantastic experience: The Staff and Services received at Palomar Heights was totally Awesome! They helped my sister get back on her feet and back home with us. From my first visit to the day I picked her up the staff was always available to answer my questions, and provide for my sister's needs. On my visits I talked to a lot of staff doing various tasks and not once did I feel I was a burden to them or interrupting their routine, they all took the time to help my sister and I. Three individuals really stood out to me that I would like to commend, Kate, Marites, and Rowel. I really appreciate all you do and the support you provided my family and I. There are truly Heros at Palomar Heights. Thank You.
Hi Craig Sizemore, thank you for taking the time to leave a review for us at Palomar Heights Post Acute. We're happy we could meet your expectations!
Fantastic experience: I really appreciated the care and attention to detail the staff showed, you can tell they individually care for each of the patients that come in!
Fantastic experience: There has been some serious change going on at Palomar Heights. I was hesitant based on the reviews that I saw online but the reviews were quite old. I was extremely pleased with my experience. The administration and staff were amazing! I would recommend this place to anyone.
Fantastic experience: I have had the pleasure of working with the staff and speaking with the residents at Palomar Heights for six years. The staff is open, caring and willing to work in extremely difficult circumstances. I was always impressed with people that chose the occupation of working with the elderly and people that needed rehabilitation due to physical limitations and disabilities. Now I can add that it is an extreme pleasure to work with so many staff members that chose to put others first even in the face of COVID 19 and what it meant to them personally. In my mind these people are angels on earth and I am grateful to be able to work with them. I was recently at the facility and noticed the new flooring and pretty painted nurses station. The residents rooms also seemed to have some really nice special touches. I was speaking with Johnathan the admission coordinator and he shared how nice it is to work with the staff at Palomar Heights. He was talking about how much he enjoys meeting the new residents and getting to know them and their families. I was also very impressed to know Palomar Heights is one of the very few facilities in the nation not to have a serious outbreak. CMS rating is also impressive.
Negative experience: Minimal care given! Lack of overall respect! Rooms are small and shared no privacy at all!!!!! They are extremely rude. Dont care about your healthcare or your prescriptions! Treated as if it's a hospice! No one here cares about the patients! Very short with patients. Had to escape this place to start making a recovery! They misdiagnosed everything tried to drug and sedate me!!!!
Negative experience: This place was horrific, meds not given properly, sometimes given wrong meds, got bed soars, i was there from sept. 28- October 22, they withheld my colostomy care instructions as well as bags without consulting me about it, my Dr. Said i could be released a week earlier than the 22 - and after allowing me access to my colostomy bags or even discussing it with me, they kept giving me the run around, my freind had to come get me, because thet kept saying i was confused I was there for long term. They kept giving me the wrong meds or tried giving me all my meds ar once. Which could have led to an over dose, my toilet would sometimes take up to 2 days fof them to empty, so the smell was foul. My colostomy bag exploded 2 times and no shower was given, i was offered a shower had a shower 1 time during my whole stay sept. 28- oct. 22 i plan on taking leagal action. If you Google Palomar heights post acute care facility- you will see the shocking long list of people that took legal action and why, i cznt believe how yhis place remains open, yhere is also alot of elderly abuse going in in this place, and 1 person died while i was there- i heard the nurses yelling ( we have a dead one over and over) I will be forever traumatize after my stat at this facility and i hope me speaking out will save others from this kind of abuse and experience. I also plan on taking leagke action after I am strong enough to do so, i lost alot of weight while I was there, and had to go straight to the hospital because I was so dehydrated. Im luck something more savier didn't happen, if i had waited any longer it waould have been bad
Fantastic experience: My 80-year-old husband, Ron, recently spent six weeks in the Palomar Heights Post-Acute Care Center after breaking his hip and elbow. We found it to be a great place for his recovery and rehabilitation. The workers were caring and professional. They created a pleasant atmosphere with fresh air and sunlight as well as a view of the nearby hills or of their garden in front. Privacy curtains were available around each bed. Everyone had his own flat-screen cable television and remote control. It was kept very clean. The food was dependable and tasted good; they provided snacks twice a day. The dietitian even interviewed my husband to determine his preferences. Visitors were welcomed and chairs provided as needed. Visitors can also take advantage of its location near the shopping centers and food establishments of East Valley Parkway. Enrichment activities were available to the patients, offered in the “senior care” side of the facility. When x-rays were done prior to a trip to the doctor, the service was provided at bedside. The gym was large and well equipped with occupational and physical therapists that took care to further his progress during sessions each weekday. He also had the freedom to move along the supervised hallways outside his room to practice his skills as he recovered. Rose, the head nurse, worked with us to allow his departure when he felt ready. We even were allowed to use a separate room for signing papers with a notary present. Ron says he can’t think of any improvements needed at Palomar Heights. In fact, it was better than he had expected.
