The internal medicine team at our clinic provides primary care to adults, while our pediatricians only see kids. If you're due for a physical or have any new or ongoing health concerns, we can help.

If your child is feeling unwell, you can take them to see a pediatrician for quick medical care without an appointment.

Essentia Health provides specialized care in many different areas, some of which can be found at the South University Clinic. Our specialists have received extra training in diagnosing and treating conditions that affect specific parts of the body.

If you're unsure about a diagnosis or treatment plan, you can ask for a second opinion from another doctor. Your primary care doctor can help you decide if you need to see a specialist and can make a referral.

The clinic may offer services via a secure video chat with an off-site medical provider. This would allow patients to receive care from a medical provider without having to leave the comfort of their own home.

Negative experience: Your Starbucks lady could use some hospitality. I asked her to make me a white chocolate instead she made me a white mocha. I almost wanted to give her the drink back and say I want my money back. When I tried to ask her nicely to have her make me a white chocolate with no mocha in it she’s like no I can only make it with mocha

Negative experience: Went to get allergy testing done for myself and my son. They combined both of our appointments into one even though we had separate appointment times. The dr asked basic health questions about myself. He then informed me that no allergy testing would be done. I have had several allergy test done on myself in the past, known allergies. My son has similar symptoms so wanted testing done to find out if and what he maybe allergic to. No test done on either of us, waste of two hours to see an allergy specialist when all that was done was vitals taken from both of us at the same time. If you or your family need allergy testing done in the Fargo area I suggest going to Sanford

Negative experience: I love my doctor at Essentia South University, but the new check in is awful! What in the world happened to personal service. I do NOT want to walk in and talk to someone on a screen or do the touch screen check in. It’s ridiculous that we can’t have an actual person there to check us in. Bring back the in-person to person check in! Bad move, Essentia.

Negative experience: tried to schedule an appointment - lady on the phone was extremely rude and unhelpful. bureaucratic nonsense

Negative experience: I enjoy this location and the doctors we see, however, NOT having people, real live working people, to check patients in is ridiculous. The two times I've been told to use the touchscreen to check in for my daughters ped appointments, the screen tells me the check in can't be completed. So besides the touchscreens being (probably) absolutely disgusting, the process doesn't even work.

Negative experience: I had an appointment at this location today. I went to check in for the appointment and learned there are no longer people there to check you in. They have a bunch of touch screens for you to do it yourself. I have 2 problems with that. 1. the system to check in does not let me make changes to information when it's wrong. (the same reason I don't check in online before my appointment) 2. They want us to use a touch screen that how many other people have used? Cancer patients go to this location. They want people with reduced immunity to use these. It is a clinic, sick people come here on a regular basis and they have to touch these screens too. Whoever thought this was a good idea should be looked at a little closer. I went back to my car and called to cancel my appointment I will not be back to this location until these are removed.

Negative experience: Doctors are Not concerned with your health. MINE does not communicate, charges you for questions not relating to your issue and when you dispute the charges the Dr.and Essentia come back with more charges with a comment that the charges are due to her going above and beyond for a 20 minute visit!!! BTW Essentia charges you nearly $350.00 just for taking your weight and blood pressure before you see the Dr! CHECK YOUR STATEMENTS! NEXT TIME DO NOT CHOOSE ESSENTIA!!!!

Positive experience: For the most part I've had great experiences going through Essentia. I've had one bad experience with one of their male nurses who argued with me over paperwork that needed to be done by the doctor and sent in for one of my medications that ended up being a month late. It was to get that medication for free but I ended up paying full price for it or not have it at all. I haven't seen that nurse since I filed a complaint against him. Currently my daughter has been diagnosed with depression & needs to see a therapist but they canceled her appointment twice now because their child therapist is on leave and has been for 6 weeks. They only have one child therapist. Now my daughter is upset and I have to try to find her help elsewhere. Talk about making a child feel like they're not important while going through depression. This would normally force me to give them 1 star but I gave them 3 stars since I've had both great & mildly bad experiences.

Negative experience: Do not go here for a doctor visit they not have patients financial help all they do is put you on a payment plan. Which means they care more for their profits then they do for their patients the patients

Fantastic experience: The nurses and staff here are attentive, knowledgeable and nice. They are patient and understanding of people who are in various stages of sickness. Helpful, they see to all your needs and even your comfort as they treat you. Honest, we once misplaced an expensive tablet PC. The staff found the tablet and returned it to us. They are truly good people.

Fantastic experience: I am new to Essentia and had a very positive experience this week. I saw Dr. Alberto Cabo CHAN in endocrinology. I was so impressed with his mild demeanor, his patience, his knowledge, and responsiveness to my questions. He has ordered multiple labs and I am confident he will give me the correct diagnosis and treatment. Thank you Essentia for such a wonderful experience. I have been to many doctors over the last 70 years and this has been, by far, my most positive experience.

Negative experience: As of 30 August, they’re still the only ones in F/M forcing masks; go elsewhere!

Negative experience: Cannot reach the billing department

Bonnie Lloyd 3 years ago

Positive experience: I had to do a 24 he urine collection and I got a big orange plastic bottle and a generic card of what to do. I didn’t get a ‘hat’ that you place in the toilet to assist in the collection. That Is pretty dumb. I ordered my own for $7 so I could do this. Pretty sad not to get that with the kit

Fantastic experience: Doctors good with our babies. Careful not to pay too much attention to all the negative reviews, essentia is far superior in how they treat there customers and staff. As a past employee of Sanford,I can say, they do value people at essentia much more than Sanford

Barbara Edin 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: I am sad to read so many negative reviews. I used to work at Innovis and Essentia for 10 years; and, I have chosen Essentia for most of my providers since then (I also choose some independent practitioners). Overall, I have been very pleased with my care and currently am receiving very good care from Internal Medicine (Jennifer Henry NP) and Cardiac Services (Dr. Lola, Dr. Mani and Danielle c. NP). The reception staff for Internal Medicine are very welcoming and helpful. Rarely, do I encounter someone who is less than pleasant or has poor bedside manner. I find "My Chart"' to be a helpful way to communicate with staff responding very quickly; I have also had good experiences with the nurse triage staff; as well as, communication with the billing department. I am grateful for the care I have received at Essentia; and, I let my family and friends know that this is where I would want to be cared for in a life threatening situation.

Negative experience: Terrible customer service

Negative experience: Having a consult and it was pretty uncomfortable with extreme long wait to an appointment i was required to come early 20 min for and was acknowledged 40 minutes later and was there another hour. I wish i could have been notified. The specialist i barely saw. Was shuffled from other nurses from other departments to do screenings and questionnaires when ultimately got a brief consult which probably should have been from home online. Whole thing outside of the consult appeared very disorganized. At one point i was in room waiting and they had no idea who i was even though i was in there for an entire hour and then some, I was addressed by a wrong and females name (twice) The inter office chatter laughing the matter off was not what feels comforting in a busy office when they misplace charts. I hope the follow up is better. Update…. Had 2 more negative mishaps which was all on their end which ended in someone calling me and being rude. Changed to a 1 star and will never return to the sleep study. The will mix up your chart, call you the wrong name and not interpret or clarify the instructions given by the Dr. I was told to call back in a week and I did and they debated me on what Dr told me to do. I called again and told them that they made a mistake. They never followed up with me. Then yesterday a lab employee called me up and started to lecture me. I am so done. Do not go there. Your info and safety not guaranteed

Negative experience: Terrible administration and billing system! My baby was get cares in Essential and now is 2 year old, and recently they notified me that all the vaccines my baby had in these two years are mishandled because of improper temperature storage. It means that my baby doesn't receive the proper care in these two years, and I need to bring my baby to re-vaccinate all over. Isn't the terrible thing a mother may have? They discovered this problem 2-years later (so late!) and didn't make an apology for that! In the meantime, I have billing problems from them all the time since my family got care in Essential Health in 2017. For example, they filled the wrong code to my insurance company which caused my insurance company rejected to cover the service, and sometimes they even didn't send the service to my insurance company! Basically, every month I will have a billing problem! I have to pay attention all the time to the claims from my insurance company and compare them with the statements from Essential Health, then communicate with Essential Health and insurance company for correction, which consumed me lots of time and energy. If you want to keep yourself in a good mood and simple life, staying away with Essential Health.

Fantastic experience: I've been a patient in 6 different departments at the Essentia clinic on University during the past year and have always been exceedingly pleased with the staff in each department.

Fantastic experience: This is a beautiful clinic/hospital. Very friendly as they are screening the patients to enter. The Dr's and staff are well informed. Bless them for what they do for us in this time of need

Negative experience: They did not care about you, you can wait for 45 minutes but if you late about 10 minutes they are cancell your appointment. I had a very bad experience at all.

Rainbow Charm 5 years ago

Negative experience: They are extremely racist and unprofessional. No mental health or actual treatment given. Worst location yet. Avoid this place at all costs. You're better off going to Sanford

Na An 5 years ago

Negative experience: Complete waste of time. Will be charged, I'm sure, an outrageous amount of money for them not even being able to help me. Saw one doctor and they straight up said they couldn't help me and referred me to another doctor; the second doctor was slightly more people friendly but rushed through and just prescribed a pill instead answering my question to what was the root of the problem. Will not be going back and just become a Sanford client now. Do not recommend this clinic, they just want to pump you full of pills and get your money.

Kirsti Heffta 5 years ago

Positive experience: We love our pediatrician but I must say the place could use an update. You can't even fit a carseat or stroller into the bathroom and that's a huge deal when you're at an appt alone with a baby. The bathrooms are gross but the one on the pediatric floor needs to be fixed! That is not a place for a mother and her child(ren) to cram into. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Zach M 6 years ago

Negative experience: Treating physical pain and discomfort is billed as cosmetic surgery. Avoid at all costs. Only reason this is above 1 star is because the staff are friendly and wait times are low.

cyndi 6 years ago

Negative experience: Dr. Babu and multiple members of the staff are racist and prejudiced. The staff let personal biases rule over proper medical judgement and I find that to be abhorrent. My friend who has had a chronic blood disease all of her life was made out to be problematic and drug seeking when in actuality she is a pre-med student missing multiples days sometimes weeks of class due to unbearable pain caused by her condition. I do not suggest this hospital if you are black because they will not take your pain or you for that matter seriously. The staff becomes very argumentative and defensive when you call them out or “challenge” their often times questionable judgement. In my personal opinion, if you are a medical professional you should stay professional no matter what is thrown your way. The staff at Essentia have difficulty with that. Again, if you are black, steer clear of this hospital especially if your condition is chronic, rare or life threatening, they will not take you seriously.

Negative experience: The doctors were not very patient with my child, and they do not go into depth with some of their terms. One star well earned.

Positive experience: Have been dealing with not being able to get appts in a reasonable time frame. Appointments made and then when we come there is no appt. This has been going on since Nov 16. My husband saw the podiatrist on monday the 27. Have been trying to get an appt with radiology to do a ct guided injection with no success. We have insurance. Even the podiatrist office and your financial office in Duluth cannot get a hold of the radiation scheduling department. My husband is in pain, has not been able to work all week. Just trying to get this procedure done so he can get back to work. What is the problem? This is how you lose patients. I don't think we are being overly demanding about this situation. Just looking for answers. The worst part is that nobody seems to be able to tell us why this is happening. My husband has already talked to patient services about this. It hasn't done any good. It's could it isn't a life threatening situation or I would be planning a funeral

Negative experience: Do not risk your health with Essentia! Go to sanford the big dogs. All essentia will do is steal your money and end up sending you to sanford eventually anyway. It's like Sanford is west acres mall, they have it all. And essentia is like a gas station, they have just a few things to get you by. How is essentia even in business??
