Negative experience: You are the most redicilous place I seen had to carry my son up four flights of stairs cause your money hungry cant fix an elevator tore my family apart and then stole my clothes and car seat when I left my life is perfect now but you guys almost destroyed it by getting in between my relationship thanks for the hell you helped to a extent but have fun with your cult

Fantastic experience: Not fancy but it did the job for medical detox. Most of the staff are recovering addicts. I felt very safe there. Medical staff on duty 24/7.

Negative experience: I agree 100% with Joseph Joslings take on FOH. I spent 7 months there and saw the same thing. It's a forced labor camp with staff that refuses to be accountable or honest. They take pleasure in tearing people down. They would preach one thing one day then do the opposite. Total hypocrites imo. Staff would get on me about building relationships with the women because they say we're all too sick and damaged but then when I tell them I'm aware of that then I'm labelled a judgmental POS. (Some staff met their partners in the program also so very hypocritical) The clinical staff were nothing but contrarionsvin my experience. If I said the sky is blue they would find a way to tell me I'm wrong and that only FOH can tell me whether it's blue or not. They expect the clients to be the ones to keep drugs off the premises. I got punished because another client bought mouthwash with alcohol on a shopping trip I wasn't a part of and had no knowledge of. But then few weeks later when I reported a small assault on a female I witnessed I was basically chastised by staff and told I was making it up. These people are insane and can't be reasoned with because in their ideology they are always right. Even tho the ideology often changes from day to day. Only a small percentage of the 1,000 rules are written down so you always have to guess what is a rule or protocol. They refuse to update their rulebook and manual that the whole program operates off of. It hasn't been updated in decades it appears. Everything always falls back on the addict in treatment however and the staff take zero accountability. It does have some amazing people working there however. Mr S. Smith, Mr Brown, Mrs Lynch. Also I believe counselor David Scott is a closeted sexual predator in my experience. He was way too interested in my physique. It's a cult and you cannot say anything against it while your in the program or you'll be punished. Drop

Fantastic experience: So there will always be those people who weren't ready so they throw shade on the program but o well as for me, 4 years ago this program saved my life, and since then I had gained my life back, along with tools money can't buy, and I also am now an employee, a recovery coach and staff on duty person. I think of your an addict and are ready to take your life back, you should show up here, and let us do the rest.

Fantastic experience: As both an inpatient and outpatient client since 2021 I give a lot of credit to the staff as well as my peers for motivating me to completely change the direction of my life on a new pathway of kindness, compassion, empathy and caring love. My gratitude is unending.

Negative experience: I’m sharing this in hopes that it steers anyone truly seeking change to a proper program. I recommend Mid Michigan Teen Challenge in Saginaw. It’s a faith based 14 month program that has a +60% success rate compared to the -15% programs like the Odyssey House are happy with. This is a non profit so if you can’t afford rent like I couldn’t, they WON’T turn you away, though beds are just over a dozen. (3 story logging house) However this is another animal if you think you’re gonna maintain med usage of any sort. Even nicotine isn’t allowed. But you can do it, trust me. You will be shut off from the world outside of your immediate family, and guess what you will be shocked at how quickly you get better. I’ve made the mistake of trying these other places and MMTC is like a family. I still maintain close communication with those that graduated before and after me, 9 years later

Negative experience: First, Let me start by saying if you're looking for rehabilitation, DO NOT enter Odyssey under any circumstances. It is a CULT-like program run with a upside down PYRAMID SCHEME. In this program, they use the addicts as slaves to run everything, including groups. Over time, after detox, addicts will move up levels in groups and get certain 'privelages' and have a certain amount of power over other addicts that are in lower numbered groups. There are 4 levels of power. If you break a rule, which is easy to do because most of the time you aren't told the rules, you will be given 2 hours of work. So, the staff are literally using the addicts to run the almost the ENTIRE program for them, the money they make should be going back down for maintenance and food service, but never does. The Elevators have also been broken for months so they force people with medical disabilities up and down steep staircases. Don't think it's a cult? How about this; Break a big rule and you will be forced to stand in front of everyone with a cardboard sign that you have written on with marker the rule you broke in marker and say it out loud, and hold it there until you are told to sit down. They use addicts as slaves here. They also refused to return my debit card upon my discharge. The building is also filled with black mold and mice. That's my extent.

Fantastic experience: Let me start by saying if you would have asked me two years ago when I was in inpatient there, I would have gave it a horrible review. I hated it almost the whole time I was there! I spent 11 months there because I was sick of being in and out of jail and if I could just complete my PO would let me leave. I didn’t want to be sober. I had every intent to get high again just wanted the courts off my back. Going through this program was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. They do beat you down mentally and take everything from you so you can start new. Make you relearn and get rid of old habits. I can honestly say it changed my life. I didn’t always agree with the place or the way the house was ran but what ever happened to me there worked. I’m extremely grateful my life is in a lot better place. I have both my kids and almost 3 years and I can’t see myself ever returning to who I was before I was forced there. Thank you Flint Odyssey

Negative experience: I was at Flint Odyssey House for 27 months, I made Level 4P which is the highest level that you can get to as well as made recovery coach in the detox. It has potential to be a great program if the staff weren't so sick and cared more about saving lives than exploiting your vulnerabilities. They have the most hypocritical leadership I've ever seen in my life, the four pillars that they teach you that their four pillars are truth, trust, concern, and responsibility while they lie to you, gossip about you and backstab you they will throw you under the bus and laugh in your face about your misery, on top of that they don't do their jobs and nothing ever gets done on staff's level while they will work you to death if you allow them and then if you get burnt out they will blame you for allowing them to work you and say that it's your fault and that you don't have any boundaries. This is a the most narcissistic organization ever and I advise you to stay clear of here at all cost. I will never recommend anyone to devote themselves to recovery in a place like this. Save yourself the misery. Go to a real rehab, not this cult.

Negative experience: UNBELIEVABLE..!!! Never before have I experienced such a ghetto program, for anything. I was very hesitant to go there to detox since I'd heard so many bad things, but it was all I could get into quickly. What a mistake! The staff are incredibly rude. They tell you to wear a mask, while they wear none, though it's they who are most likely to bring Covid in each day. Everything there is broken: the toilet handle, the window crank (can't shut the bathroom window) making it FREEZING in there, both shower control handles. There are TV's in each room, so inconsiderate residents blare the sound all hours day and night, while their roomates are feeling miserable and wanting to rest. Then, to top it off, the "nurse", gave me Subutex, or similar med before it should have been given, throwing me straight into precipitated withdraw, and as I laid thinking I was gonna die, yelling for help...they ignored me for about 8 hours. And if it can make it any worse of an experience, it became clear when I realized not many people were feeling very sick...that this place is FAR more of a homeless shelter than a detox. And the staff know this, so they talk bad to you, believing you probably have nowhere else to go. Absolutely a TERRIBLE experience.

Negative experience: While my husband was currently in between an inpatient rehab and a psychiatric center I made a phone call to solely get information regarding this Recovery House/ sober living. I am not familiar with how these places work, what or who they allow into their program. I couldn't even tell you if this is a program, a housing center or a timed rehab of some kind. I explained to the lady who answered my call what my husband was going through, his potential needs and most importantly that i was calling to try to help him help himself considering hes currently fresh into a psychiatric center at the moment and not in the best state of mind to call them himself. She would not give me any type of info, she wouldn't even explain how to me how the "housing" works. Instead told me several times to have him call them because shw could only speak to him. I wasnt asking for top secret details nor did i need any personal information of any kind. The phone call was ended by me asking her if she liked her job and i told her she should be ashamed of herself. Theres no reason she couldn't explain to me what exactly the flint odyssey house is and what they do for people there. Shes answering phones and is therefore the voice of this place. With that being said she deserves zero stars and a new job that doesn't consist of helping people in any way shape or form. I hope going forward she can find enough goodness in herself to actually be of help to people.

Negative experience: I would like to say I had a good experience here. However I can't. It is a very tyrannical system that focuses on everything you do wrong, very little about anything done right. Residents are expected to encounter each other about what they do wrong on a weekly basis and there is little real clinical staff. Recovery coaches and level 3 and 4 residents are in top level leadership roles for which they are not qualified. They allow level 2 residents to facilitate groups, not being qualified at all with only 8 to 10 weeks clean. And the building is falling apart.

Negative experience: I had to pick a family member up after48 hours. They were left to detox alone in a room. No nurse checked vitals, or passed out meds. She found a ful needle with stuff inside it from a pervious client. They have some weird rules about asking your peers for forgiveness after you "sin" pregnant women fed a sandwich and cottage cheese for the whole day. Can't make.phone calls to family, sounds like a whole circus ran by clowns.

Fantastic experience: Flint Odyssey House is an amazing program. I was about to lose all rights to my children (2015-16 maybe). I immediately checked myself in to Odyssey House. I stayed 9-10 months. I had my kids back with me permanently within 3 months. I recommend this program to women/men in the same situation I was in all the time! It’s a tough program but if you’re serious this is the place to be to get yourself and your family together. I now have my kids with me ( no CPS involvement), I work full time filing claims for ARW Home Appliance Insurance, and will be graduating in 2022 with a bachelors degree in Health Service Management. The tools I was given from Flint Odyssey House I still use daily. IF YOU ARE WILLING TO DO THE WORK, FLINT ODYSSEY HOUSE WILL GIVE YOU THE RESOURCES AND BACK YOU UP IN COURT. YOUR KIDS WILL THANK YOU!

Positive experience: Was here for 4 months after several treatment centers and it changed my life. Amazing history, amazing staff. Much different than the other treatment facilities I've been admitted too. Don't expect people to bend over backwards 24/7 for you here, bend over backwards for yourself first. It works if you work it. Much love.

Fantastic experience: I've seen reviews on here that disparage Flint Odyssey House as "ran by crackheads" and I think that assessment is quite unfair. There is a diverse variety of staff, from recovery coaches, to clinical counselors and therapists all the way up to directors who have vastly different backgrounds and in my experience, I have found staff competent and caring. Many do have personal recovery experience and implement this knowledge to guide clients and supply empathy to assist individuals with Substance Abuse and Mental Health disorders. I have witnessed individuals go from the "very bottom" to being reunited with families, obtaining college degrees all the way up to Doctorate's and becoming an absolute asset to our community. The residential program is not for the faint of heart. Is it a challenging method of treatment, but when utilized, can bring about tremendous transformation in the individual, the family and the community. Flint Odyssey House has been one of the factors that have saved my life and gave me a life worth living and I am deeply grateful that the selfless, effective and loving family of Odyssey House exist.

Fantastic experience: This program truly saved my family's life. My husband and I entered Odyssey with our 5 young children June 2019. Through behavior modification and personal accountability, we have turned our life around. I highly recommend this program to people who are willing to put in the hard work and achieve long-term sobriety.

James Harper 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: You will experience what you put in just like anything in life. This program is a disciplinary behavior modification supported by the therapeutic community(residents and staff).it operates on a level up system to give more responsibility and privileges to them as they earn it. Helps simulate stress and pressure to learn to cope with stress. This pressure also brings out a lot of character flaws that need change for growth. This program is like no other you don't just learn recovery material your expected to put it to use through actions. The true care from the staff is present and offer help to family and parents with children which is a big challenge for some seeking help. There is many pathways to recovery, this tough more blunt approach was what i needed and what worked for me. It has changed my life and many people i know.

Negative experience: Someone very dear to me got placed in here and they haven't been able to leave the buliding AT ALL for 7 months...Prisoners have more freedom than here and it is a cult. They seldom get phone calls and EVERYTHING has to be approved through their therapist. I feel terrible for anyone who genuinely wants to get clean because this kind of environment is not the place to go for that. Wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy

Jason Cripe 5 years ago

Negative experience: This is the worst place I've ever been! They publicly humiliate their residents, they expect you to find other residents doing something wrong at least 3 times a day, you can't even look at a member of opposite sex, let alone talk to one. You can't even go to the bathroom without having 3 other residents go with you. There are children running around with a bunch of addict's and alcoholic's. This place was not for me. On the other hand, you can live there for months or even years.

tracy baldwin 5 years ago

Fantastic experience: Saved my kids and my life, they work on behavior modification so you can learn to be a productive member of society and integrated back in the work force and start being a positive role model for your kids and others. Best decision of my life.

Negative experience: Horrible experience, residents were cool about it. I got tossed out for a good reason. Can only blame myself for that. Was going to try to escape later that day anyway. Already tried once but got talked into staying. They really need more productive staff who care. Very disorganized. Lot of "unwritten rules". Tried to get involved in as many groups as I could but been bags tossed into holes wasn't why I went. If you have PTSD and learned to internalize anxiety, disappointment and anger good luck. Code violations, Federal HIPPA violations & State LARA Violations. Witnessed and was not given prescribed medications. Instead they made me a zombie since I can't take Ativan. I had to go to residential to get actual paper prescription filled. Detox wouldn't do it and would not produce the actual prescrption for the Valium they made me take. Okay done ranting. Looking at New Paths.

Negative experience: Dropped my daughter in law and granddaughter there thinking it was a really nice place.WRONG!!!!She stayed 2 days when I went to pick my granddaughter up for the weekend my daughter in law was a wreck this place might work for some but if you have kids dont take them there. You have to beg for snacks and milk for your kids ask for a diaper and pray you dont wait for 45 min like she did.we r finding her a new rehab.Everybody talked so positive before she got there.Everyone I talked to that worked there was rude to me.

Negative experience: Odyssey house should be shut down, and probably will be if investigated by code enforcement, health department or DEA. Unprofessional and unorganized, no true medical or psychological clinicians present to aid people that truly want help. They cater to addicts that repeatedly come back for free lodging, food and drugs, not helping them but enabling them to continue ruining their life until they eventually die. How can a rehabilitation center lose you medication and personal belongings? Odyssey house is ran mainly by addicts and the living conditions are deplorable. Would recommend to anyone truly wanting help to go somewhere else that properly staffed with professional help. This place is basically a homeless shelter for addicts, not a true rehabilitation center. Its undeniably appalling to an average person and I feel sorry for anyone that went there seriously trying to get better because this place made me want to jump in the deep end! Glad I'm stronger than that, and I actually thank Odyssey house for terrifying me so bad because it gave me the strength I needed to do it myself! I wouldn't spend 2 more seconds there, Odyssey House is that bad and should be shut down!!!!!!!

Amberlace Hayes 6 years ago

Fantastic experience: Odyssey House is a long-term substance abuse and behavior modification program with many different options to help those with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health issues. I personally can testify to the success of the program in helping me become a high functioning and contributing member of society.

William Edwards 7 years ago

Negative experience: Dont go there. They have bedbugs. Lots of bedbugs. Crack heads run the program waste of your time.

Talisa Harper 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: Like all treatment it is what you make it! No treatment center is perfect. If you wanna focus on all the negatives, you will be miserable and probably kicked out...but if you are positive, you just might change your life! Would not recommend coming here is you are not serious about your recovery... I work hard and the treatment team works harder... They have been nothing but a blessing in my life, even though at times it feels like a curse I ❤ FOH!!! I'm a 4p in the long term inpatient program... Re-entry phase.

Fantastic experience: This place is amazing. It is more than just outpatient odyssey really invest in their clients success and it becomes a family. Odyssey has helped me get my life back. The therapists are amazing knowledgeable and not just book smart, they have been down that road too which in my opinion is a necessity. If you put in the work they will help you in whatever they can.

Negative experience: This place is disgusting i would never suggest anyone to go there they have bed bugs, never gave my friend a sheet for the mattress or a towel to shower for three days nor dedorant and it disgusts me there still open and make that place out to be a good environment for recovery
