Fantastic experience: I came to Hulst Jepsen for therapy on my lower back. Due to the stress I was putting on my back from work, I was experiencing muscle spasms that were agonizing. My trainer Josh took note of all my concerns and put together exercise routines that strengthened my lower back. I appreciate the care and thought that Josh put into my routines to get me back into shape. The rest of the staff were polite, helpful and made me feel comfortable during my visits.

Fantastic experience: I’ll forever be thankful for Hulst Jepsen and Steve Malvitz. I struggled with lower back pain for about 2/3 years. Chiropractor didn’t have success fixing it, Mary Free Bed couldn’t figure it out pain specialist didn’t get it right but Steve and his team at Hulst Jepsen fixed me in about 3-4 weeks. I was very impressed. I tell all my family and friends to go visit Steve if you’re having issues.

After having three kids, I finally decided it was time for some pelvic floor therapy and diastasis recti help, and I’m so glad I took this step. Katie is so easy going and puts you right at ease, and she is upbeat and encouraging. She shared lots of education which was so helpful and will help me maintain the progress I achieved. Fantastic experience: Lexie welcomed me warmly the first day I appeared for PT at the E. Grand Rapids store. I noted immediately that all personnel were masked and that I was mandated to do so also. While I waited for Wade to introduce himself, I read the 'learning' circle posted on the wall. I liked it very much. Wade was warm, compassionate, and caring. He told me in advance what kind of personal exercises he was assigning to me. When he worked on my leg and knee, I could sense immediately that he knew the human body well. He massaged with care and accuracy! In the weeks that followed, he seemed pleased I initiated my own warm up exercises, even though I was graciously accompanied by a tech. During our personal time, Wade was a good listener; he also shared about his family and about the history of Hulst-Jepsen. We became friends even as he retained his professional effectiveness. I decided I had chosen the perfect place in which to get my PT after knee surgery. The staff feels comfortable laughing when something funny happens. They also remain effectively professional as well. This PT branch exhibited , for me, a most welcoming atmosphere in which to strengthen my knee and leg for life ahead!

Fantastic experience: I had a wonderful experience here! I sought out pelvic floor physical therapy to help with urinary incontinence. This felt like a rather embarrassing issue to address but my therapist, Katie, was kind, patient, and understanding. She put me at ease, explained everything well, and answered all my questions. Our appointments never felt rushed in any way. Now I only wish I hadn't waited so many years to deal with what turned out to be a very solvable problem! Prior to physical therapy I had just about given up on running (floodgates open!) and had stopped any kind of workouts involving jumping. I was upset that my issues seemed to be getting worse and not better over time. Doing my assigned "homework" (exercises) and being patient as my muscles got stronger has added up to what feels like a miracle. I no longer have to worry about leaks. Bonus points: during the course of our appointments we also addressed a reoccurring issue I have had for many years with hip/leg pain that comes and goes on both sides. Again, it was wonderful to find out that something I assumed I had to live with could be remedied. I cannot recommend physical therapy enough. You will be surprised and delighted with how much progress you can make in a few short months and how much improvement you can experience.

Fantastic experience: This place is great!!!! The whole staff really cares about their clients and their being restored from what ever happened to them!!!! Mine is recovering from Covid Pneumonia and many Blood Clots in my lungs due to Covid Phenomena. I spent 9 days in the hospital and many day in bed recovering from it at home!!! It took my muscles and my lungs! Steve and his staff have the kind of love and caring that is rare these days!!!! They do not treat the people coming for Physical Therapy as a paycheck!!!!! They treat them with love and kindness and care about them as a whole person!!!! I would and am recommending them to anyone that needs help in their line of expertise!!!!!

Fantastic experience: I was referred for physical therapy by my orthopedist. When asked, he stated he would recommend going to East Grand Rapids Hulst Jebsen Physical Therapy. Once in the door I was met by a smiling and energetic receptionist. How refreshing! Steve and his team always showed a respectful, professional attitude, and turned out to be the best listeners I’ve encountered in health care. All my efforts were met with encouragement and understanding. Their outstanding ability to make assessments and create treatment plans was really welcomed. I’m very pleased with my experience there . I’ve already referred people to EGR Hulst Jebsen and won’t hesitate to do so in the future.

The first physical therapist that helped me did a great job in a time of extreme pain. I was then handed off to another that inspired me to seek treatment elsewhere.

Negative experience: I have bad arthritis, and PT helped me more over time. At the beginning and end of EVERY session, I was repeatedly asked if I could wear a mask, even after telling them I COULD not, not just WOULDNT. It wasnt defiance or something like that! After many sessions and a lot of hard work, I refused to go back because I am not able to wear a mask because of a severe medical condition, and they were not making me feel understood or respected. If they dont want ME, they wont get my MONEY either!

Fantastic experience: I had an MRI on my right shoulder which has been painful for some time. The orthopedic surgeon read the results and informed me of the extensive damage and suggested a complete replacement of the shoulder. I decided to try physical therapy first, since I have been to therapy at Hulst Jepsen in the past for hip problems and the results were great. I started therapy at Hulst Jepsen at 2000 Burton Street Grand Rapids on January 22, and have continued 3 visits a week. Every week shows improvement with more movement and much less pain. I am very pleased with the results and am going to continue to work with Steve Malvitz knowing the results will be much improvement. The staff are all friendly, easy to work with and so helpful. The office and main workout areas are bright and new. I highly recommend the Hulst Jepsen location on Burton Street. Also parking is never a problem because of the big lot.

Fantastic experience: I chose Hulst-Jepsen upon a recommendation from a family member who said the rates for self-pay were excellent. I found my care to be highly affordable and am SO grateful that even with nearly three months of therapy three times a week it still didn't break the bank. After a bike accident left me with life-limiting range of motion in my shoulder, Steve and the team at Hulst-Jepsen helped me regain use of my arm. I experienced quick reduction in pain and greater ease sleeping. I can now wash my own hair, pull things from high shelves, get dressed easily, and do all the things I hardly thought of my arm doing until I couldn't do them. Upon my discharge, Steve showed me what to do to continue to gain strength, and invited me to call if I need additional guidance. My doctor warned me that physical therapy was akin to torture (not in those exact words), but Steve got me where I needed to be with a minimum of discomfort. I also enjoyed the assistants, Kaitlyn, Bri, Kevin, and Monica, who are personable and helpful. Daniell, the office assistant, did a great job with scheduling, screening for Covid symptoms, etc. My entire experience--the staff, the price, the results--have exceeded my expectations. A hearty thank-you to all who made it possible.

Fantastic experience: Steve and his team helped me recover from knee replacement surgery providing excellent PT treatment. He had been recommended by two friends who had knee replacements. When I asked my surgeon who he would recommend the answer was Steve Malvitz which sealed the deal. Steve went above and beyond to not only help me regain full use of my knee but also helped me modify my walking -had developed some bad habits over the years thanks to delaying the knee replacement. While I hope to avoid my other knee being replaced if that happens then Steve and his team will again be the group to help me through it. So many PTs today that are not nearly as qualified and skilled as Steve in managing the pain and providing the right follow up activities that really make a difference in the recovery process. Thanks again Steve!

Fantastic experience: I have spinal stenosis and my doctor sent me to Hulst Jepsen Physical Therapy East for some PT. I could hardly walk and I also had a shoulder problem. My experience was more than I had hoped for. Perla Perez was my Therapist and she worked magic with my back and shoulder. Two visits a week and a steady diet of stretching and exercising at home with thorough instructions have allowed me to resume a more normal life.The staff from the front desk (Lexi) and to the excellent assistant PT therapists, (Emily, Monica and Analis) were pleasant, helpful and thorough. I would recommend Hulst Jepson to anyone in need of PT.

I have been referred for multiple injuries, and as bummed as I have been to have to slow down for recovery, I have always felt immensely relieved that my care is in their hands; Steve especially has been integral to my rehabilitation and overall phenomenal experience here. The warm & welcoming environment alone is special, as every single person you encounter is genuinely kind, cheery and supportive. It's evident that they care deeply about the work they do, the patients they see and the relationships they cultivate -- it shows in the progress of their patients. While I am grateful for my progress, I will sincerely miss spending my mornings there, as they are like family to me at this point.

Fantastic experience: I’ve worked with Steve and the H-J crew on and off for the last 3 years, primarily on both shoulders. My present challenge is recovery from rotator cuff surgery. The atmosphere at the center is very positive and family-like! The therapists are both optimistic and realistic! And I love the progress I’ve made in restoring my shoulder health! They really have partnered with me in getting me healthy again. I couldn’t ask for more!

Positive experience: I had total knee replacement done on December 28, 2020. After 27 appointments I have finally made the appropriate progress to “graduate”. The hiccup I experienced was having to go under anesthesia at the 6 week point for my surgeon to do a manual manipulation to break up scar tissue that was hindering my bend . The physical therapists (Perla, Steve, Wade and Amanda ) all followed my progress through notes they would leave in my record. I felt they were well informed on my situation. They knew how and when to tweek my therapy sessions with them and for the ones they assigned for at home. Generally I met with Perla or Steve but depending on when I could come in for appointments, I sometimes would be assigned to other therapists. They all did a great job ! Also a shout out to Emily and Analise who were great , multi tasking techs. They were really good at focusing on all the patients and moving them through assigned exercises. They also gave really good pointers to redirect how I did certain exercises to make sure I was doing them correctly.

Fantastic experience: Another fruitful experience at the EGR office. I started PT with sharp pain. Chris discerned the source of the pain & effectively treated it. He showed me via tablet charts what was going on. Chris designed treatment, exercises, & stretches to relieve the pain. Best of all Chris gave me tools to use at home when the symptoms arise so I can avoid the painful predicament. The front counter girls are so helpful & efficient. I will use this office again if PT is needed. My review from five years ago: Their therapy is very effective and gentle. The EGR facility is spacious, clean, bright, pleasant. The staff is knowledgeable, skilled, and deserves a congeniality award. Pre-knee surgery I had planned to return to a different company that I'd dealt with before for rehab. At the last minute they couldn't accommodate me so I quickly chose HJPT based on location and a casual comment from a friend about EGR HJPT. It was a fortuitous decision! I have a new PT home. I finished my course of therapy today and could not be happier with my experience.

Fantastic experience: My primary physician referred me to Hulst Jepsen for hip tendonitis. Everything about my experience was excellent, from the prompt and friendly response to the very competent and helpful therapist who worked with me. I had an appointment within a day and worked via a special PT Zoom, as the in-person visits were very limited at the time (May 2020). It was easy and effective. My therapist, Amanda, emailed detailed exercise/stretching plans accompanied by videos demonstrating each exercise. Amanda immediately pinpointed the best exercises for my particular area and I was feeling improvement within a few days. Amanda is not only incredibly knowledgeable; she was so personable and encouraging as well. Most of us need PT from time to time and I will return to Hulst Jepsen any time I need a "tune up!"
