If you are having problems with your hands, wrists, elbows, or shoulders that are preventing you from doing your daily activities, the Institute for Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation can help you.
You will feel comfortable knowing that you are being cared for by a team of specialists who are focused on helping you regain function of your hand or upper extremity. Our team will work with you to create a personalized treatment plan to help you return to the activities you love.
As certified hand therapists, we carry out a comprehensive evaluation to assess the individual needs of the patient. We don't just focus on the wrist fracture, but also on any tight or stiff, painful shoulder that might come with it. By tending to all areas of the upper extremity, we can create treatment goals that make sure all areas of patient concern are addressed with the treatment plan.
We are a privately owned facility, which means that you can get the quality of therapy you need at a price that is affordable. Facility-based practices are likely to have higher costs to the patient if deductibles and co-insurances are passed on to the patient.
Instead, we focus on helping patients regain their quality of life.
We are a privately owned hand therapy practice in the Philadelphia suburbs and Lehigh Valley. We make modifications to treatment plans to ensure patients get the proper level of activity and exercise. We provide and monitor home exercises during treatment, and patient education is critical to assure patient understanding of their condition.
The staff at this establishment are efficient and knowledgeable, and they create a comfortable atmosphere. I had a pleasant experience and would highly recommend this place to others.
Services and Treatments
The Institute for Hand & Upper Extremity Rehabilitation: Reviews
Fantastic experience: The office staff was helpful and friendly. The therapists seemed to work well with their patients. Jason did a very good job of restoring strength in my right arm after a torn triceps surgery as he did five years ago with my left arm. I was very pleased with the staff of the Institute and would recommend them to others.
Fantastic experience: They always knew what was going on with my hands and explained it well. I went first with mallet finger— which healed perfectly thanks to them— and then with a sprained pinky that looked broken on the X-ray. I would not trust anyone else with my hands
Fantastic experience: Jenna was great!!!! All the staff is very welcoming and professional. Would and did recommend to friends and family!!! Great job ladies and gents!!!!
Fantastic experience: Excellent care and concern. Took great care for my son when hi broke his wrist.
Negative experience: My occupational therapist was great. The facility needs to get their act together. They couldn't figure out how to charge me properly with my insurance so they've handed me an $1,100 bill months later, all at once with no option for a payment plan. For something that was not my fault they are taking advantage of my situation. AWFUL business practice.
Fantastic experience: Excellent care and concern. Took great care for my son when hi broke his wrist.
Fantastic experience: Everyone here is extremely nice and knowledgeable. They are all invested in you recovering and getting you back to normal. I would highly recommend that you come here for your hand and arm rehab!
Fantastic experience: I would unhesitatingly recommend the therapists at the hand institute, especially John Farabaugh, who has helped me recover and regain dexterity and strength after thumb surgeries on both hands. He has taken care to minimize pain while making progress with creative interesting exercises. It has actually been “fun”, if that word can be applied to physical therapy. He has also been very helpful in explaining, answering questions and setting expectations.
Fantastic experience: I had an amazing experience with all of the staff at The Institute for Hand and Upper Extremity Rehab. Following my wrist surgery, I worked closely with John for 3 months where he gave me the tools I needed strengthen my wrist and be able to perform all of the tasks I once did at the gym. John helped me to rebuild my confidence following surgery. John is highly knowledgable and uses his experience to best teach his clients. I am very thankful for the care I received and would recommend this facility to anyone following wrist/hand surgery! In the past, I have had many experiences in physical therapy for other injuries and nothing compared to the quality care I received here. Oh, and they have great music choices!! Thanks for everything!
Fantastic experience: Jenna is one of the best physical therapists in the Lehigh Valley. Her knowledge, customer service, and level of knowledge for treatment was top notch. I’ve unfortunately needed therapy several times for different occasions, but this time proved to be my best one yet. I cannot praise Jenna and the rest of the staff enough for their assistance.
Fantastic experience: Cannot say enough about how great my experience was at this facility. John and his staff are welcoming, professional, and extremely good at what they do! The staff at the front desk are super friendly and helpful in handling all your billing or scheduling needs. The therapists provide great care that will get you back in no time!
Negative experience: Not happy. The hand brace does not fit well. It hurts more with it on. I was there for 2 1/2 hours, sat waiting most of the time. I was supposed to have one made for each hand but after the one was made and it took that long, I gave up and skipped the second one. Very frustrating. The therapist was very nice but visit was more negative than positive. Sorry...
Negative experience: My daughter broke her finger. While the therapist was good with her, the apparatus they made was awful. To loose, it fell off after 2 days. Then the issue with their billing department. We received a bill for 20.00, we have 2 insurances, there should be NO reason we are being billed for anything. I've left 3 messages with billing and when someone finally did their job and called me back , she was rude and sounded uneducated. I will not pay an extra 5.00 because I wanted to pay via credit card.
Fantastic experience: The staff was very kind and friendly. You can tell they really care about their patients. Scheduling was not a problem for the times I needed. I would highly recommend them.
Fantastic experience: Jason Mock is very knowledgeable and professional. He shows the utmost concern for how I am progressing. He even explained my elbow surgery to me – I was not aware of the many details to the surgery. He has a great personality, and he is a very hard worker. He goes that extra mile with a patient. I was very fortunate to treat with Jason not once but twice for both elbows. I am very pleased with the facility and administration ladies. I highly recommend THE INSTITUTE for HANDS AND UPPER EXTREMITIES. Thanks Jason and John for all your help.
Positive experience: The facilities here are clean and the staff is friendly. They seem to do as well as can be reasonably expected from therapy to billing.
Fantastic experience: The therapist was very professional and accomodating. He listened to my concerns, and was very attentive to my specific needs. Scheduling was fairly easy and flexible.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful! The entire staff is warm and caring. John knows everything, and had the patience to explain every aspect of my injury and the healing process. I am extremely grateful!
Fantastic experience: Having spent the last two months five days a week in therapy I found the entire team to be extremely supportive compassionate and dedicated to their jobs and my final outcome John, Cheryl, Jason, Colleen, and Beth great people that’s makes a fantastic team to work with
Fantastic experience: Great friendly and caring staff from the minute you walk in. Great scheduling flexibility to your needs. There was no waiting to see your therapist. I was so concerned with my hands after surgery but Jason was very helpful, not only as a therapist but as a friend. I would gladly recommend this place to anyone.
Fantastic experience: I felt very welcomed as I arrived for all my appointments. The entire staff were courteous, professional, and informative. The rehab sessions along with the provided excercises to do at home were beneficial and effective. I found the facility very convenient to get to and appeared clean. Jason was especially caring and knowledgeable. Colleen also conveyed a sense of comfort and helpful. All of the surrounding staff demonstrated their want to provide services to their patients and continued pleasantly even when things got busy... Thanks for easing my endurance of my injury to be more tolerable. Valerie Hotmer
Fantastic experience: John is an excellent therapist. Professional and friendly, a nice combination. My hand is back in working order! I spent some time with Jason and Colleen as well, both do great work. Ann Marie and Jan are super in the front - especially dealing with insurance issues.
Negative experience: I have an injury and they convinced me therapy would help. After several weeks and several dollars no improvement noted. Do not go there
Negative experience: The staff was very friendly and helpful. However, they charged me $50 After insurance for a 30 minute visit when they really only worked on me for about 10 minutes. It was a rip off. They put a heating pad on me for 20 minutes and worked on motion on my arm for 10 minutes, yet charged me for the full 30 minute session. Personally, I went there twice and would not return back. What the therapist did, I could have done at home and saved $100 for the 2 times I went. It was very disappointing.
