Hartford Hospital Emergency Rooom: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I don't know why this came into my mind today. But I was in the middle of a workout and something told me I needed to do what I could to thank the doctors that helped me at Hartford Hospital 31 years ago! I was in New Hampshire and fooling around on the beach and I broke my leg. I was living in Springfield Massachusetts at the time. I went to the hospital in Springfield and the bone specialist walked in the room, looked at my x-rays and told me that I needed an operation that day and that I couldn't afford it and that I would never walk again. Then he just walked right out of the room. That doctor had no idea who I was, what financial situation I was in or even what type of insurance I had. I left the hospital absolutely crushed thinking that there was no hope for me and that I would be in the wheelchair for the rest of my life. The next day I decided to take a chance and go to Hartford Hospital. Your doctors worked together to treat me without getting surgery and a year later I was back on my feet. Ever since then I have had a wonderful life! And I know I owe it all to the amazing Hartford Hospital doctors that helped me back then! I hope that they are still around to know how grateful I am! Thank you Hartford Hospital!
Fantastic experience: Great hospital, clean and doctors and nurses very compassionate.
Fantastic experience: Our little girl was born 10/26/2024 at 5:03 a.m. she was 7 lbs 10oz and 20.8 inches long. Her life was nearly over before it started. But the labor and delivery team saved her. They were prepared for what was happening and saved my little girl. We are so grateful for all of the Dr's and nurses who care so much about all of their patients. I am eternally grateful for everyone who helped us. God bless
Negative experience: I came to the emergency room 10/20 for chest pains and high blood pressure. I was sent over by the urgent care . I checked in numerous times . I waited over 10 hours! The doctor came over and rushed . He was horrible
Positive experience: 2 Years ago I endured a medical emergency that caused me such unimaginable pain I remember being in the ER on a stretcher bellowing, pleading for someone to help please help me nurses doctors etc passed me up and down carried on casual conversations about dinner plans and getting their roots done; I didn't exist. My Gallbladder ruptured and had to be removed It's something that has marred my memory and to this day causes a great deal of anxiety. 5 days ago I endured another emergency that led to a 6 day hospitalization where I met and was cared for 3 outstanding staff from 8th Floor Bliss Wing Dr Goodwin was a genuine compassionate patient attentive Physician. RN l Kaitlin ran her shift like a well oiled machine but maintained care empathy and concern. Lindsay was also superb. This helped to somewhat restore my faith but unfortunately will never undo the past trauma.
Fantastic experience: I personally did receive good attention and adequate care needed for my child. I don’t have not even one thing to complaint about. From the staff, the waiting time and procedure necessary, everything was more than I expected. All the nurses, doctors and medical staff were helpful, attentive, and compassionate. We thank and appreciate everyone from Hartford Hospital!.
Negative experience: Worse hospital ever 30 yrs in EMS and never saw or experienced a nightmare of a place like this my father was there for 5 days will never let him go back there. Nurses were horrible acted like they didn't care Dr.s didn't return calls when asked to couldn't get any answers from anyone if the the Dr.s really cared they would of kept the family informed especially in a case like his. I feel.sorry and bad for anyone that has to go there. I dont see how they manage to get away with what they do.My advice to anyone stay away as far away as possible.
Negative experience: The staff treats you like a prisoner. They say go back to your room. If there was ever a life threatening situation. There is no call button and they leave you for hours and don’t check on you. This place was overcrowded and the worse experience I have ever had in the Hartford Healthcare Emergency Room. I am extremely disappointed with the rude staff and the Hospital. When I was in ER a lady was screaming in pain and she called a Patient Advocate so they would assist her. I was told to leave and was never seen by Doctor before I left. Disgusted with their treatment.
Negative experience: I’m always having trouble scheduling. It’s annoying and frustrating.
Negative experience: ER is an absolute circus unorganized and unsanitary my dog gets better treatment at the vet 10/10 don’t recommend take your chances going farther away unless you’re a crackhead you will fit right in
Positive experience: Still in the hall with wired broken jaw. And have been many many hours it's 1:43am. Ugh. Room or I Uber outta here. With the quickness.
Negative experience: All day today trying to get the nurses to call for an update on my dad to get nothing, no call back. I even called to let the nurse know that around 3:20 pm my dad complained about pressure on his chest, and difficulty breathing and the nurse never called me back. My dad will not complain, he has alzheimers, and doesn't like to bother people, he is very gentle, and when he tells me he is not feeling well and it bothers him to breathe, I have an issue because he has a leaking valve that has not been able to be fixed because he also has covid. Today a team of doctors were supposed to evaluate him and get back to me but I have yet to get any information. This is upsetting and worrisome. If I could be with my dad right now to speak for him I would, but I am recovering from covid too. No family should be left without an update on their love one when they call. This simply unacceptable.
Negative experience: If i could 0 star it I would. Staff was incredibly impatient, judgemental, and rude to my 19 year old sister who had surgery. They sent her home 1 day after a throat/chest surgery and she is now back at backus hospital. Not to mention she woke up from surgery with all her clothing pieces but her undergarments.... very strange. Nurses were disgraceful.
Negative experience: I live in Tennessee I call to get update on my mom and they can never call you back. Frustrating not knowing how your loved ones are doing.
Negative experience: I brought my daughter here and I must say I am so disgusted with the staff and overall patient care and the lack of accuracy While we sat and waited I witnessed a triage nurse never checking vitals on a few patients but had logged into the system as if she did, my daughter needed urinalysis and was given the cup and label to another patient. This was all at the ED. Their system for admitting lacks communication and structure. I am not impressed at all with their lack of commitment and sympathy from their staff I will not be visiting this facility ever

Negative experience: On July 17, 2024 I got to Hartford hospital with a pain right behind my neck, after I got registered they put me in one of the emergency room with out checking on me. Right after like 40 minutes later some student came to draw blood, and she saw how bad I was feeling and I asked her if I can get at least something to control my pain, her answer was no cause I need to be see by the physician. I got to the hospital at 12:20pm and half hour later they put me in the room, my pain started getting worse and worse, and I ask few nurses for something for pain, and they keep ignoring me. After 5 1/2 I told one of the nurses to give me the discharge paper the I want to go to another hospital, she said to me that they won't discharges me, the I need to talk to the physician. So I asked her, how can I see the physician if she isn't around, she told me to go see her at the front desk, I went to the front desk, I saw the physician and she was with the phone all time I talk to her like if what I was telling her was not important. Then when I told her the I wanted to be discharge, that when she put pause and told me that she won't discharges me because then my insurances won't paid for my visit. I told her to give me something for pain, and she said not until I get to you, I went back to the room, after 6 hours waiting I told one of the nurses the im walking out, she told me, that it will be my responsibility if anything happens to me, I told her either way I'll be my responsibility if anything happens to me here too, cause y'aĺl cover y'all self saving the I arrived too late to emergency room. Two days before I went to my Doctor where he prescribed me some medication for infection, and I was taking them as they was prescribed. So I never got to be see by the emergency physician, after 6 hour of waiting in that room, she never care to got check on me, she never too time to see me, but she too time to make a report like she went to see me, saying in the report to keep taking the medication prescribed by my physician and send me a bill of $374.85 for her services. That's Hartford finest Physicians, that's how they make easy money, while us have to work so hard that what we make is not even enough to support our families. Just wondering, if the hospital put this bill on lawyer hands for you to be obligated to pay for, do I have rights to take then to court for false report?

Negative experience: severe car acciden brought in by ambulance only to "wait 5hrs" in the hall before being seen is crazy!!!!!!

Fantastic experience: I recently found myself in an unexpected car accident, which left me with some soreness. Naturally, I needed to get checked out, and I chose Hartford Hospital’s emergency room for my care. From the moment I arrived until the moment I left, the connection and care provided by the staff were impeccable. The entire team was on their game—bright, attentive, and genuinely nice. This experience was a significant improvement compared to what I encountered many years ago. The professionalism and compassion displayed by everyone, from the intake nurse to the doctors and support staff, made a world of difference during a stressful time. Thank you, Hartford Hospital, for your exceptional service and for making such a positive impact on my visit. Your commitment to patient care and human connection is truly commendable.
Fantastic experience: My mother had surgery Tuesday. Very good experience. Managed her pain with only Tylenol. Very surprised, Happy though. She was on the 4th floor, bone and joint. All doctors and nuises, very kind and understanding. Especially, Blue eyed Dean... My mother's favorite. He listened to her stories and was very patient with her. Dawn another wonderful nurse. Very clean. Doctor Olson very professional. Process, quick to, she came into the hospital late Sunday night, surgery first thing Tuesday morning. The team very quick to find her a rehabilitating center. My mom was released Thursday. ❤️
Negative experience: Windham hospital was purchased by Hartford Healthcare. Hartford Healthcare is building a monopoly in Connecticut. Which is highly illegal. We want alternative options to Hartford Healthcare. Hartford Healthcare seems to teach their staff to be pathological liars. The entire staff needs to go back to school for Psychiatry 101 followed by 12 months with a licensed therapist as their preceptor. Mental health IS HEALTH. If toxic, abusive or harmful psychiatric maneuvers are being employed against patients then your company doesn't care about health. Any potential patients reading this, do not go to ANY Hartford Healthcare facility. Ask your Doctor if they are associated with Hartford Healthcare and if they are, find a new Doctor. Give your money to someone who cares. Not Hartford Healthcare. Help CT break up Hartford Healthcare's monopoly and refuse to be treated by them.
Negative experience: Doctors, Nurses and Social workers are great. The aides are horrible. They kept my cousin in a soiled bed for over an hour and half after being told by nursing staff to address the issue 4 times, they seem to sit in the halls and are on their phones all day. You try and call the switchboard no one answers, just rings off the hook. The ER team is swamped and needs a better system and more help, we waited 9 hours in the ER for a bed then were placed in a hall for 16 hours within a foot of gun shot wounds bleeding all over the place. This is a trauma center don't go thinking this is someplace that can get you seen in a short period of time. You are constantly booted to the end of the line. Bring drinks a book and couple of meals with you. Things move slow at Hartford Hospital, the testing, the decisions all of it. Go to a smaller hospital and if needed they will move you to Hartford. Not a experience I would like to repeat ever.
Negative experience: Parking is horrifying. Speaking to anyone who knows English at the info desks is terrible. Get your running sneakers on, and / or expect a good 5 hr valet. Not exactly the "best" of the best. Commercials lie. Also good luck with any follow-up with any "specialist" there. Unlikely to happen in the time frame you'd hope for. Otherwise- nursing is good, seems clean. Food is ok.
Positive experience: Good hospital. Organized and clean. Always have a good experience getting tests there.
Negative experience: I came into the hospital with a heart attack on the 14th of May.I had a procedure to fix it.on thurs.5/16 after the procedure I was in my room with two nurses taking care of me doing what they needed to do because of the procedure. I had had a ninety percent blockage and left heart syndrome The kitchen staff brought my meal. I opened the cover and saw that it was marinara. I could not eat that after my procedure. It was too rich. I sent my husband out for some food.An aid presumably mine which I have no way to know because she did not introduce herself or write her name on the board like everyone else had done. She came in even though I still had nurses working on me and she shoved. The towel up under my chin and I said no I don't want to eat. She said I'm going to uncover all of your food.I said no she obviously got mad at me and left. When she came back later on when the nurses were done with me.I asked her for help with my bed. There was also the air machine on the bottom of the bed that they had used to put air bags on my lower legs so I wouldn't get a blood clot. I wanted to help and asked her where I should put it because it was wrapped up in the sheets and blankets. She snapped at me.I will do it and ripped it away from me. She started whipping my blanket and sheet all over the floor and the garbage which was right in front of the sink. At this point I definitely was not sureif she was at my aid and if I had asked her to do something when she wasn't.Why else would she be mad.She went away. I ate with my husband and later on when she came in. She wanted to take my Blood Pressure. The cuff was super tight.I knew it was a new machine because the one last night had died and I was told it was new. She took my Blood Pressure twice.Hurting me considerably and decided. She was going to take it a third time.I refused she got mad. She left again and when she came back.I offered her an apology to say that I had been waiting to eat with my husband earlier.she started yelling at me. I don't even know what she said I couldn't believe it. I yelled at her to get out of my room and in the hallway. She was still yelling as she's walking away. I don't even know what. I yelled to her co-worker to make her stop. And how dare she do this to somebody?Who's just had a heart attack?I could not believe it. After that, the assistant nursing manager for the floor spent 2 hours with me. He was very nice.By the time he was done I was no longer upset but I knew the score.I knew that the other aides were not gonna be too happy with me. I was a nurses aide for many years. And of course, that's exactly what happened.I was either had my calls ignored or when I asked for water. I was not given any. I definitely had an attitude from everyone. I lay down to sleep for a whole 4 hours and someone cranked up my heat in the night. The door to the stairs was right across from my room and I feel she turned it up on her way out. They all knew that I have heat intolerance. It is in my file. I have told them all yet. My heat was cranked up. It did not affect the lady next to me. Because the minute you walked around my curtain, it was warm.. I was.Told by the Assistant. manager that I wanted her kept away from me. I am ambulatory when I walked outside my bedroom door, she was sitting at the very next door obviously sitting for a patient in case they needed something however I was told she would be kept away from me. I do not feel that she was. I was afraid. I can't believe that there is an aid who will treat people like this. Before this happened, every single aid and nurse was unbelievably.Nice and efficient I am very sorry to say. Hartford hospital was my favorite hospital and now I can't stay far enough Away from it. When I complained to HHC they sent a letter saying they took it seriously but did not address the abuse.
Negative experience: Got stuck in waiting rooms for 3 hours due to a shift change. Why can't this be planned for? 50 nurses walked by one of my waiting rooms without a single hello.
Negative experience: If there’s a top 10 worst hospitals this would be number 1. The doctors there are rude and disgusting they can’t even get their stories together. Very mediocre for a place of professionalism. I rather die or bleed out than ever step foot in this hospital.
Negative experience: ER was absolutely horrible. Family member got into accident yesterday with horrible injuries and it took the ER 24 hours to even given them a room. On top of that no nurse or doctor would attend to their care unless we kept asking. Every time we would ask a nurse or doctor about something they would keep telling us they can’t help us because that’s not their patient. Hartford ER is not helpful at all.
Fantastic experience: We love you NICU workers ! Every body in the Nicu is so accommodating and nice our baby boy loved the nurses his bestie Lexi snd we love dr hersh ….but laz parking gets zero star review though the most unprofessional group of people iv ever seen
Negative experience: Terrible experience for someone who never goes to the hospital. Went around 2:00am with extreme amount of pain, the wait time to see a doctor was hours and they have you wait in the hallway. The most uncomfortable feeling ever especially when you’re in pain. The nurses are careless and there’s communication. I unfortunately had to walk out because the pain was so bad I needed to go to another hospital.
Negative experience: People should really avoid Hartford Hospital the wait time is Bad nurse's not inattentive. Went to ER 9:45 it's now 3:00. Been waiting for discharge paperwork for 2hrs. New Britain Hospital is a lot faster efficient!
Negative experience: I had a seizure and was rushed in the ambulance even though I refused to initially take it. I get to the hospital and they take me out to the waiting room around 3pm I waited 7 hours after the seizure to finally see a doctor around 10:30. Ridiculous how I was taken in an ambulance then placed in a waiting room for 7 hours waiting. Now I’m going to have to pay the hefty ambulance bill for nothing

Negative experience: My stepfather passed away here after a brief battle with leukemia. He was in his 50’s. The day he passed away in the ICU, my mother received a phone call, which luckily I answered. The person stated he was a physician on the floor there and that my stepfathers phone was left behind and kept going off and annoying them. Was it really a physician? I don’t know. But who does that? Eventually, once I found the phone days later… there was just a single text on it and no missed calls. So idk what was so annnoooyyyinnggg. Anyways, don’t go here if you’re dying. The care sucked too. They will put you in a room with a pull out toilet and a sink you have to pump with your foot to get to work. Good luck doing all of that when you’re terminal. And I know what it’s like to work in a hospital. Understaffed or not, unacceptable.
Fantastic experience: I’m so glad made it. Home to my kids over year ago. I went through the worst experience with my heart. Yes I was ready to leave to go home to my kids. They did a great job keeping me alive for my kids to enjoy my with. Thanks I appreciate you’re service.
Negative experience: GF was in extreme amounts of pain and from the time we checked in (1130pm) to the time someone helped her (400am). This is the worst experience. Better off just waiting out the pain since no one cares.

Negative experience: Go somewhere else. It’s overcrowded and no communication between staff. You’ll have your blood taken in the hallway right next to other patients.. how sanitary is that? I have a urine and 15 mins later I was asked to give one and they couldn’t find the initial one I gave. There’s such a lack of competence. Go anywhere else if you care about your health and wellbeing because this hospital doesn’t .
Negative experience: Atrocious. Security guards are rude, nurses have horrible attitudes, and doctors are non-existent. I waited for over six hours in a hallway without being seen. Finally just got up and left...went to a real hospital. Go somewhere else, ANYWHERE else.
Negative experience: 5 stars for the skill of everyone we have dealt with from the neurosurgeon to our favorite nurse. Zero stars for their policies on visitors in waiting rooms and lack of empathy and condescension from staff such as security guards, front desk and admin. Patient advocate has done absolutely nothing and doesn’t return calls. I understand that everyone in healthcare is overworked, but when you’re there due to a family member being in a severely critical condition, there needs to be adjustments to certain policies. Not everyone’s circumstance is the same.
Negative experience: Second day my girl is in this hospital due to pain from a surgery she gotten done May 6 and the emergency room the worker the dr are no good..she have a hernia inside of her belly and they don’t want to do anything about it..she been in pain for two weeks and been back & forth with her OBGYN and the emergency room..emergency room staff are so unprofessional to those that are waiting patiently to get seen with pain..
Negative experience: I could count on one hand the number of staff members here that are pleasant, along with being kind and helpful. That's if you're lucky. From my experience, the majority of those that work here, treat you like you're incompetent. Very rude, to not only the patients seeking help, but to each other.

Negative experience: One nurse has 61 patients in the ED waiting area for patients is the hall where the doctor won't see you they won't give meds if food or even water but they will give you a CT Scan and send you back to the hallway

Negative experience: absolutely MISERABLE experience. i was placed in gold pod/I-track. they wouldn’t let my dad come in with me because it was a “fast-paced environment.” sure, if you consider a snail with a cane to be fast. i was left alone to rot for hours. nobody asked for a list of my medications (i am on a lot of psychiatric medications) and by the end of my 12-hour stay i was starting to withdraw from one of them and hallucinate because they were not given to me. i would have felt so much better had i had my quiet dad sitting in a chair next to me (he totally could have fit, i had a room). i had an ultrasound that identified my problem at 5am and wasn’t discharged until 10am; i was left alone in my room hallucinating, having a panic attack, and becoming extremely paranoid. i am allergic to gluten so all they could feed me was applesauce and pudding to see if i could “keep it down” after having received IV medications. i understand that the variety of snacks in the ER is limited, but of course i’m not gonna be able to keep APPLESAUCE down when my stomach is acidic! why wasn’t i offered ginger ale? i never saw a doctor after the ultrasound. when i was finally discharged to go home with my poor 65-year-old father who had been awake alone in the waiting room all night, a nurse came in, read my discharge instructions verbatim from the paper, and made a complete mess trying to take out my IV. i had to ask another nurse to redo the bandage because i bled through it immediately. i threw up in the car on the way home (duh). because of that i had to hold off on taking the medication that would make me stop hallucinating for a couple hours. to top it all off, i haven’t lived in CT for a few years (i was visiting), and they didn’t think to ask me to update my primary care provider in their records, even though i gave them my new address and the doctor they had on file was my old pediatrician (i am 24), so they sent the records to the pediatrician and i had to have my current PCP go on a hunt for my ultrasounds. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU ARE ACTIVELY DYING!
Negative experience: Whoever run this so called Emergency Room should be ashamed because I brought my girlfriend in at 9:30pm.and we are still here at 3:37am.Why there's nobody here in the waiting room.I understand that there are other patients here, but come on 6.5 hrs and counting that we are here. This Emergency Room is just a disaster.
Fantastic experience: I have just spent the past week on Bliss 8, after emergency surgery. I found ALL the staff to be kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, and respectful! I’ve read quite a few other reviews and am confused as to how our experiences differ. I’m thinking it’s frequently the patients’ demanding, unreasonable expections that color their experiences! Well, my team….from surgeons to Nursing, and everyone in between, was amazing and I am very greatful for all their compassionate care! Thank you! Eileen/31
Negative experience: One of the worst hospitals I’ve ever dealt with. My husband doesn’t like telling hospitals that he’s a medical professional, just to see what type of care we receive and this hospital didn’t fail to disappoint. Terrible while he worked here and even worse while we came here for care. Not to mention the racism and micromanagement from staff. I’d rather drive to Farmington/Uconn next time.
Negative experience: I have been at the hospital with my Aunt since 4:30 pm, she has been here since 10:30 am this morning. It's, now 7:30 pm and a nurse came over just to say they were going to call her in the room in a few. I understand the urgency of other people's sickness. But, having someone in the waiting room for 9hrs, is totally ridiculous. Sitting next to her and seeing her cry in pain of discomfort is hard. I know the next was tired of me but, I had to keep reminding them she was still here in pain and needed to be seen. She came in on Sunday and they did nothing, but tell her they can't see anything and send her home. Her personal doctor recommended her to go back so they could still run tests and treat her. If this is how bad the emergency room has gotten then I only suggest we learn how to take better care of our personal health.
Negative experience: Super rude security guards… they will give you attitude then try to get big and tough with you when you advocate for your significant other. Go to a better hospital. Had feces and blood in the restroom. Told them at 10 am about it, was still there by noon. Have a dog that comes in and smells people when they are clearly terrified shaking. Stay away. There’s many better hospitals around here.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, and will forward your concerns to the appropriate staff members. If there is anything more we should know a patient advocate would be happy to speak with you. If you need to reach us, you may email [email protected].
Fantastic experience: I'm grateful for their work. Each person was kind, respectful, and patient. I wish I could personally thank each person who helped me, there were many. They saved my life.
Negative experience: The only word to describe this place is shenanigans. My husband passed away in this hospital and I was trying to collect his personal affects. No one on the call could tell me how to get it. Instead I showed up and someone finally found his items and told me his phone wasn’t with him and I found it in the bag. Only saving grace was the social workers were a big support.
Your feedback is sincerely appreciated, and will be forwarded to the appropriate staff members. If you have any additional concerns, please contact [email protected] at your convenience so we can work with you to make this right.
Negative experience: My dad is 84 years old. He fell and broke his hip in January 2024. He was taken to Hartford Hospital. The first nurse that went in to see him says "so you have COVID." My dad said "no I don't." She said "well that's what your chart says." He said "I fell and they think I broke my hip - I don't have COVID or even any symptoms." A couple days after surgery they transported him to a convalescent home to recover and for therapy and upon arriving they said "take him to the COVID ward." My dad said "I don't have COVID, I haven't had any symptoms and I wasn't even tested for COVID. Hartford just wrote it on my chart." "Interesting", said the nurse. She tested my dad for COVID it was negative. The next day they tested him again and it was negative - shame on you Hartford Hospital!!!
Negative experience: No compassion or professionalism My brother had a car accident and it was very traumatizing for my family and I. What we’re met with is him being in an extremely loud hallway for 15 hours. The nurses, social workers, and all the staff members are so impolite and have a sick sense of humor where they make light of the pain. One social worker mentioned he was going to take my brother’s pulse and he asks what happened - my brother says a car accident. This guy responds with “oh was it drugs, weed, or alcohol?” What a sick joke. What an absolutely ridiculous comment. My brother was a victim and this is how the workers at this hospital treated him. We waited for hours to just a communication of what to expect. I asked the front desk and the nurse who is assigned to my brother shrugs and goes up to him and says “oh they didn’t tell you that you’re admitted to the hospital?? Well! SURPRISE! You’re admitted! You’re staying hereee!!” It was in the most condescending and rude tone towards someone who an hour ago, had their car totaled and in immense pain. And then the social workers were all sooo noisy and loud for the entire time. Whether it was 4am or 8am. And they never once had an extra room to put my brother in so we just suffered through this nonsense. The only good people were Amy the PA and Jake the nurse. Absolute gems who kindly attended him, asked what we needed, and constantly kept us updated whenever they could. A big hug and thank you to them. Everyone else — absolutely horrible. This places’ 2.7 stars is too high for such an awful place.

Negative experience: Hartford Hospital no Good patines all out In Hallways…workers chitchatting in the hallway and other areas when the emergency is so busy lots of distractions little work HARTFORD HOSPITAL NEED TO DO BETTER Specially for the Elderly…. Sitting since 4 Am almost 12 midday and nothing no room everyone and everything moving slow
Negative experience: Staff friendly and accommodating however the emergency department itself is filthy. As an RN myself I found it appalling. A previous patients stomach contents in the suction canister behind the hospital bed was the first thing I noticed. The resident who was designated to suture my boyfriends head not only did not wash her hands prior, used the chair I was sitting on to place her sterile field on, did not put on sterile gloves for the procedure, just displayed poor technique and even worse infection control overall.

Negative experience: I had to have part of my foot amputated and was treated with all the compassion of a low end fast food restaurant. There was so many sections in the recovery room it looked like a assembly line. I was told I didn't need Intravenous Antibiotics for more than 3 to 4 days even though my leg looked like it should be part of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Float Where is the compassion. Hartford Health Insignia should be $$$ dollar signs

Negative experience: EMERGENCY ROOM is RIDICULOUS! Go somewhere else. You can’t go in with your loved one, no matter how sick or anxious they are! You are told to wait in cafeteria or Panera around the corner! My son didn’t get a room in the ER he had to wait in a chair in the hallway! He almost passed out, they finally let him lay down (for 10 minutes) because he was close to passing out. Forget using valet service! There was 14 people in front of me and I just needed to get something out of the car! Waiting over 1/2 hour so they could drive the car up because they told me it was parked 2 blocks away! Besides the ridiculous wait time, we never got any update of labs or ultrasound! NEVER AGAIN!

Negative experience: Came in this morning for excruciating pain from post op surgery I had 10 days ago. I pray I would never come here again. The first nurse that attended me was rude and was rough trying to put my iv on, she rubbed the alcohol swab hard and she still couldn't find my vein, she kept going in and out with the needle. I was in horrific pain already and she made it worse and she had no care nor compassion for me. Then she tells me she's going to get someone else to do it. She didn't even offer a warm blanket. The second nurse was more experienced and nicer and she did it very smoothly and got it the first try. After 5 minutes another nurse comes in to tell me that they're going to need blood work on me. They send someone in and she tried 2 times and she couldn't draw blood. I'm already in tears. I already felt like I was at a slaughter house. She sent someone else in with more experience and she was sweet and was smooth and got it the first try. Then they tell me that they have students today. Are u kidding me with all the pain I already had? My room was cold and dirty. This facility needs major updates. On top of everything one of the student nurses fainted to the ground. She was supposed to administer pain meds for me but she fainted. I was so afraid for my life!!!

Negative experience: The experience my family and I have had with Hartford Hospital over the past five days has been nothing short of a nightmare. If you are a primary caregiver, medical proxy/power of attorney, or help care for an elderly or disabled family member, do not bring them or authorize them to be brought to this hospital. If you're a caregiver and you're not present at admittance, you will not be contacted that your family member is even there. You will not be given any status updates on your family member. You will need to make multiple phone calls and leave multiple messages with both the Department and Patient Advocate before you even speak to a provider and receive an update, more than 18 hours after your family member was admitted. You will need to continually remind the healthcare providers of your family member's previously diagnosed conditions, especially if they have cognitive impairments, because their staff will admit to not knowing about the conditions before treating your family member. You will be redirected and disconnected from their phone tree system multiple times. You will either a) only receive an update from a provider once a day, regardless of when or how many times you call, or b) receive the same update from multiple healthcare providers, hours apart and with contradictory opinions on your family member's care. You will not be appropriately updated on department, procedure, or care changes of your family member; you will either find out hours after the change has been made, or the healthcare provider will change their decision shortly after you were informed differently. You will need to cancel and reschedule family visits because you will not be informed when medical procedures are being scheduled and performed, or rescheduled. If your family member has been staying with another healthcare facility, you will need to follow up and make sure any discharge orders are correct, because the care coordinators at this hospital are not appropriately updated by the medical staff and will make transportation arrangements when your family member isn't going to discharge. If your family member is disabled and deemed in any way "difficult," critical diagnostic procedures are suddenly "not immediately necessary" and you will then have the responsibility of finding a provider and scheduling the procedure yourself, with no referrals. This hospital boasts as being "one of the best hospitals in Connecticut" and "one of the largest and most respected teaching hospitals and tertiary care centers in New England." This was not the treament we received. Their ableist healthcare providers seem to have no experience and no inclination in treating elderly and/or disabled patients. They were awarded "America's 100 Best" in Gastrointestinal Care but don't have the knowledge or skillset (or, let's face it, incentive) to perform a colonoscopy on an 81-year-old woman to determine if she has colon cancer, based on their own initial findings and recommendation. We will never, under any circumstances, engage in services with this hospital again. Oh, and we were just informed by the rehabilitation facility that my grandmother has an unstageable pressure wound with necrotic tissue on her buttocks from her stay at Hartford Hospital. No one at Hartford Hospital said a SINGLE word about it. We intend to pursue legal counsel.
Negative experience: This used to be a great hospital. It’s horrible now. Drs. Nurses. They don’t care. They can’t keep staff because they are so overwhelmed with workload that the employees keep quitting. Your nurse will most likely be a 23 yr old caucasian girl who has been there for a year and is training a new grad who will quit in 6months but not before her in less then 3. The Care is absolutely disgusting you find dirty needles, the rooms are filthy , doctors and nurses not wearing gloves, unprofessional staff members and the bigwigs who walk around the hospital not doing anything but think that everything is OK.

Fantastic experience: I was in on 3-1 it was pretty busy to me on a Fri. I did have quite a bit a of wait but when I was finally seen I was very happy with my treatment compared to Windham Hospital. I would definitely recommend Hartford Hospital
Negative experience: Go to this ER if you want the exclusive privilege of being charged $500 minimum to sit in a hallway for hours on end, see exactly zero nurses, doctors, specialists etc., and then discharge YOURSELF because they literally forgot you existed- three times. Even fought it and they refused to admit they charged me for not being treated or seen. They even went through a debt purchasing law firm. Criminals that deserve things I legally cannot say here. Hope karma gets them tenfold.
Negative experience: My sister was at the ER on Feb 23 after going by ambulance because she fainted . She had serious surgery on her one and only kidney several weeks before .She was put in a hallway .Did see a dr after 8 hrs .She had an infection turning in to sepsis . She was told she was getting admitting .After her being in a hall for 2days I asked a nurse at the front desk what the procedure is for getting a bed . She told me she wasn’t getting a bed because she was under observation .She was in a stretcher not even a bed very uncomfortable with a seven inch incision from surgery No one changed her bandages from the drain . She was in a hall for 54 hrs with no sleep .She was in a unsanitary unsafe environment . I will never ever recommend that ER ever . Even a dog gets better treatment at a vet’s office . All I heard was we don’t have enough beds for all the patients that come in the ER .That is not an acceptable answer .
Negative experience: I had a horrific experience with my 19 year old here today. Patient care is seemingly the last thing on their mind. Care personnel were more concerned with taking everyone’s Starbucks order than the patients awaiting care. New regulations don’t allow family members to be present during treatment despite anxious daughter. She signed herself out ama in order to not endure an additional attempt to start an IV.
Negative experience: Awful service, long waiting time, rude personnel, indifferent nurses - theses are the least attributes of Hartford ER. As if this was not enough, a new regulation forbids visitors presence in the waiting room to assist patients with their needs. So if your loved one is seriously ill or experiences severe pain (otherwise why would you go to the ER?) and need to wait 10 hours to be seen, you can’t assist them with the bathroom, walking, a cup of water or anything else because no visitors are allowed in the waiting room. And they won’t provide any assistance either because why should they? Shock? No, it’s a new reality! Don’t forget to pay for this premium service thousands of dollars! Do yourself a favor - walk away and go somewhere else, this is NOT a place to get help, treatment or any kind of support!
Negative experience: Why do you even have to give a star to write a review as one is too much. Communication, cleanliness, proactiveness all SUB zero. Level of care - SUB zero. Facility sub zero...LEVEL OF DISAPPOINTMENT with Hartford Healthcare - infinite.

Negative experience: Went in a week ago, the “Dr” did not speak with me. I understand the rushing to make sure I did not have a brain bleed, but the bedside manner was awful. No one checked on me nor cared about my wellbeing for well over an hour. Left the lights blaring in my face when the OSH and myself told them the lights intensified the head pressure. When the nurse walked in over an hour later, I told them the pressure in my head came back and was in pain, I was brushed off again. After another 45 minutes, the “DR in training” came in and told me to go home. The worst hospital experience I have ever had. On top of it, the swearing by the nursing staff walking through the hallways was disgusting and quite disrespectful.

Negative experience: This is a prison not a hospital Look a the security guard & his nasty attitude, his name Huggins , also there was another female , African American lady security guard she was even worst , they treat visitors like convicts, my father in law Mr. Rahman fall from the bed because of their negligence, he has a minor stroke 1st time , after he fall He had major stroke, If I had to Rate this hospital 000000 stars. Only people are decent at the front desk. Poor thing this crazy security in charge Huggins was lol over them. We hard Rated # 1 , I wonder who decides this worst hospital even 1 Stars. I asked for hospital management to speak to someone, all I got a phone number to call Monday. , in the meantime Huggins asked me to leave or he will remove me from the hospital, it’s like Thugs & drug dealer
Negative experience: I called to check on my boyfriend. They told me there was no one there by that name. My boyfriend called me from the waiting room after being discharged and he asked the staff the address of the hospital which was in fact 80 Seymour St in Hartford. This was very disappointing.

Fantastic experience: They always take care of me here but I wanna give a shout out to Food and Nutrition. They have really good food here and Food and Nutrition are always really nice and take care of you. Update: The young ladies from food and Nutrition that have been taking care of me are both named Iris. So be on the lookout for Iris and Iris and you know they will take good care of you.
Negative experience: My 89-year-old father was sent to this hospital by the skilled nursing facility he resides in due to no appetite, peripheral vascular disease, diabetes, coronary artery disease, concern due to declining vital signs, increasing blood glucose and other issues. It is now 10 pm and he has been waiting for more than 6 hours without anyone communicating with him. He is not senile. He is fully cognitive. This treatment, I feel, is inhumane. A better policy needs to be in place. This is not what a hospital is supposed to be. He has not eaten. Are you trying to hasten his death? This is very upsetting during an already stressful situation. Have some compassion, please!!
Negative experience: The worst. If I can give no starts I would. But my Mother in law went to ICU and only allowed 2 people at a time. My wife is the only authorized person to make medical decisions for her and they won’t let her up to see her mother cause to other family members are up there that won’t leave cause they don’t want to give the passes up. Then the Doctors and nurses are getting medical permission from those family members that are not authorized to make any decisions. Also giving out medical information as well. Should I be speaking to our lawyer or is this something we have no control even though we have paper’s signed by the patient and my wife.
Negative experience: I want to give them a 0 but they do have some great nurses. The resident Doctors don't even review your chart and talk to you as if you're an idiot. Stay away from their ER and their surgical team if you want to live. Please if you can go to another Hospital no matter how far do your best to get there for yourself or family member. They will lie if you file a complaint and most people give up so they will continue these pour practices.
Negative experience: Do Not Waste Your Time. After waiting for 3.5 hours with my girlfriend to get her a CT scan, Security actually had the audacity to make everyone that was not an actual patient leave the waiting room, forcing people to wait in the cafeteria, then kicked people out of the cafeteria asking them to wait at a Panera restaurant. I had to leave and wait outside in my vehicle. This place is a disgrace. Checking patients' personal information in the middle of the waiting room, if anyone wants to steal information, this is the waiting room to do it. No discretion when getting the patients information asking for social security numbers and addresses in the middle of a packed waiting room. This place should be closed.
Negative experience: I went to the emergency room after having 2 seizures and was rushed there by ambulance just to be put in the hallway. After 5 hours of waiting I finally got someone to answer my questions and they stated I had 26 people still a head of me. I was ignored the whole time like I was a ghost an not cared about at all. No one was around to help me to the bathroom even though I had a bracelet on that stated I was a fall risk. The nurses I asked where the bathroom was they pointed that way. This Hartford Hospital emergency room as poor patient care, non empathetic and threats you like your a bother not that they want to help you. This used to be my preferred Hospital however I will no longer be going to this uncaring Emergency room again.
Negative experience: Wife was rushed in ambulance for seizures, after EKG was put in waiting area for 5 hours and ignored. Had to leave without seeing doctor because there was 26 more patients waiting ahead. Horrible service. Never again
Negative experience: Went to er with chest pains, pressure and severe arrythmias and bring a younger heart patient should have had better service, instead after an egg (quick intske) showed can't rule out antiwrior infarction, triage nurse did not even take my history or BP and told me to go wait and that wait would be at least 4 hours in main waiting room. Next day, I read report of pa/triage who lied and said I reported NO cheat pains, whi h was thr very reason I was there.. hest pains.. heart issues, they also assumed I was not Hispanic by looking at me instead of asking and reported that rong among other things. If you want to live, go elsewhere..this hospital er was horrible.

Negative experience: I'm disgusted by the apathetic and lackadaisical nursing staff here. We had to help my dad to the bathroom because no one would come when he pushed the call button. They let him lay in his filthy bedding for DAYS until we tracked down some clean linens and changed them ourselves! They repeatedly disregarded the meal requirements given by the oncologist and brought him food that he physically couldn't eat. There was NO communication between the staff so none of them knew his current condition and what he needed. When we went to the nurse's station to ask for help they reacted as though we were a burden. If WE didn't beg them for care to be provided, it just wasn't provided. He languished there for over a week before he died and the staff at this "hospital" made his last few days on Earth torturous. The blatant disregard shown to a dying man in his weakest moments is something our family will never forgive. The administration should be ashamed of themselves for the truly sickening way their staff treats patients here.

Negative experience: Transfered from another hospital. Was in hallway for over 30 hrs. Didn't see a dr for hrs. Nurses I finally saw were great. People who did my test were very nice. But bathroom was gross. I haven't been there in yrs and it looks the same. Dirty. Don't recommend going there.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, and will forward your concerns to the appropriate staff members. If there is anything more we should know a patient advocate would be happy to speak with you. If you need to reach us, you may email [email protected].
Fantastic experience: From their state-of-the-art facilities to their dedicated staff, the hospital embodies compassion and professionalism, ensuring each patient receives personalized attention and top-tier medical treatment.
Negative experience: If you expect to be treated like a human being in need of medical help, forget about it. I went with a relative who had severe bronchitis and a referral from urgent care to go get a nebulizer treatment. We had to argue to get help. The place was a pit. Waited in the hallways forever amongst unsavory people. Treated like we were homeless, drug seeking dimwits. No real care given. Robitissin and they took..
Hi Nina Sartori, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are disappointed your experience did not meet the standards we strive to provide, or live up to your expectations. Your comments will be shared, internally, to help us improve. If you would like to share more about your visit, you may email [email protected].
Negative experience: I am so disappointed with this ER. Twice I was there with my father both times we had to wait a significantly long time (10 hours +) to get admitted in. I have no faith in the care that was provided, as we had to, over and over, again provide the history of why we were there and request specific care. There is no communication, even after asking several times. Really sad.
Negative experience: I think bad attitudes at any institution flow from the top down. Based on the horrible interactions I witnessed a doctor. Surgeon and PA have with a patient at this hospital, I think the staff and employees are very mean, dismissive, cynical, uncaring, unconcerned with how the patient perceives the service and I think that executives and management must also be just horrible as well. Sadly this hospital is in a low income community and I think that is part of the reason for the horrible patient treatment.
We strive to provide a better experience than the one you received. We appreciate you taking the time to voice your concerns, and want you to know we are sharing them with our staff. If you feel this requires additional follow-up, you can reach out to us at your convenience by phone at 860-972-1100 or email [email protected].
Negative experience: They are so overwhelmed and understaffed, patients suffer. You can wait up to DAYS in the emergency room. I know several people who have had admitted family members here and they died due to incompetence. There’s a good chance you will literally die if you seek care from this hospital.
Negative experience: My husband had to wait 8 hours for them to send him on his way with elevated blood sugar. Then went to another hospital and they told him that he would have been in a coma if he didn't come in. I know it gets crowded there and you don't want people to be in the hallways or even come in but common sense is not to send someone on their way knowing that they have diabetes and pancreas problems.
Negative experience: It’s so disgusting how they treated my husband who is diagnosed with several mental disorders he was hit by a car in release afterwords to a medical cab that never showed up with no meds for pain and dumped outside as if he never was a patient he later on leaves around 2:00 AM after being discharged around 10 o’clock never to receive his cab and getting mugged trying to walk home I checked on him several times the facility told me they did not see him outside they are not responsible for him once he leaves, but they are the ones who kicked him out without transportation on the way. This later on turned into a disaster all they had to do was make sure that this patient who was newly diagnosed that you can clearly see that they were still delusional when he left
We are disappointed to hear about this experience. If you would like, please reach out to our patient advocate by phone or email to get this situation resolved. Please call 860-972-1100 or you email [email protected]. Your feedback is important to us, thank you for taking the time to share it Eyea Nonee.
Negative experience: I was sent to the emergency room by a doctor in another building. My BP was 78/50 and she was concerned. I was wheeled in to the room at 1130am. 11hours later and I was still waiting to be seen. I left. I got a call at home at midnight.it couldn't have been much of an emergency it was chaos . Never again. I'll go somewhere else
Negative experience: Communication is important. ….. with that said, My father has been in the ICU for 6 days now, and in the mornings between 8:30 AM and 10 I’ll call to get an update on how he did throughout the night. I call now because the first 2 nights he spiked a fever and had some issues and wasn’t informed. When I do call I’m tolled I’d get a call back. I’ve waited an hour and a half minimum before trying again. Just in case they forgot. Still nothing. No call, no update. I don’t live around the corner to swing through, as I’m sure I’m not the only one. When I was able to go Saturday, 5 nurses hung outside of his door for the 2 hours while I was visiting . They were so loud I had to shut the door just to hear my father speak. He has a different nurse the day before that said he would do things and never came back to follow through. As I’m sure at times they are busy, it obvious that it’s not always and waiting over an hour and a half for a return phone call is excessive.
Negative experience: The emergency room response was horrible, they are under staffed and they have Patients urinating in the hall near other patients no privacy ,no one is a priority ,when you ask for help staff says they can’t help you ,because your not there patient, when someone is incontinent they call someone else even though they could be doing it, No one takes responsibility for anything they just keep saying someone will be with you!! And no one ever comes!! I’m sad This hospital used to be amazing but it’s gone down hill!! Way way down . There are a few amazing staff who are hoping and doing what they can individually to help ,frustrated with how the “system “works nowadays and keep their upbeat attitudes and expectations about what they think should be happening. But it’s just saddening
Negative experience: Don't go there pure and simple. Understaffed with more patients in the hallways than in the rooms in the ER. Terrible communication with doctors who never return requests for information on the patient. They discharge you before you safely should be, probably because of the backlog of patients waiting for a bed. Terrible, absolutely terrible!
We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, and will forward your concerns to the appropriate staff members. If there is anything more we should know a patient advocate would be happy to speak with you. If you need to reach us, you may email [email protected].
Negative experience: Overcrowded and dilapidated. The current NICU is filthy and overpopulated while CT Children’s hospital raises millions of dollars for another facility. Meanwhile, the focus on current facilities and environment are entirely overlooked.

Fantastic experience: I’m totally late with this review. I would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Price and her team for taking care of me earlier this year February in fact. I pray this review reaches her. She took every precautionary measure to ensure all of my medical needs were met on an emergency level. I feel so bad this was not posted sooner. But I feel her duties as the attending ER DR was remarkable. We need more medical professionals like her.
Fantastic experience: My son was born here. The nurses/medical staff were excellent. Super helpful and knowledgeable. My wife and I are truly grateful for having our son born here.
Negative experience: Incompetent and undereducated medical staff. Providers do not communicate efficiently amongst themselves or, to family. It’s clear their mission is not patient focused. My mom needs a liver transplant and she was sent here. Not impressed with the care at all. I’ve had to advocate daily for her in getting proper care. It’s also a dirty establishment.
Fantastic experience: I hear these reviews but I will give my experience. At the age of 16, On Aug 3, 2005 I was hit by a pickup truck while walking. I flew 50 feet and fell on my face. I broke my skull, suffered brain injury and broken bones everywhere. I was rusitated, brought back to life. Long story short, they told my mom that I could probably not make it . I stood in coma for 2 weeks and then less than a month I almost completely recovered. I want to thank the doctors, nurses, PCT and EMT for being so dedicated on saving my life. Thank you, Hartford hospital for saving my life. God bless you
Negative experience: This is by far the most disgusting hospital I have ever been to. The staff is rude and incompetent. A doctor? Nah they sit in the back and decide what tests you need without seeing you!! Go elsewhere! Anywhere!! Labs say I'm having a heart event/attack and I haven't seen a doctor in the four hours I've been sitting here!! I spent 12 hours here and was told it would likely be another 12 with no room, just a stretcher in a hallway. On the upside if you're looking to steal someone's identity, this is definitely your place. They literally push their carts around in the ER yelling out your name and date of birth $$$. They told an elderly man that he didn't have to be there, he could leave, their blanket response to any questions. The filth is beyond anything I've ever seen. They should be reported for elder abuse to the poor gentleman. I know you're all tired blah blah blah but the abuse you dish out to patients is beyond belief. Twenty years ago you all would have been suspended and ultimately fired. I can only hope you have a need to be on the patient side and you are treated exactly the way you treated everyone today! Please leave the field of medicine because no one would be far better than 98percent of you barely erect sub humans .
Negative experience: Usually I take hospital rating with a grain of salt. I was properly medicated and treated during my 3 day stay and today I have been in pain all day to the point I started throwing up. They have done nothing to remedy the situation. I’m on a bed alarm and they try to act concern when I have to run to the bathroom to throw up. “Are you ok”? Really?!
Negative experience: DO NOY GO TO THIS EMERGENCY ROOM!!! For your well being, I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!!!!! I have never been to North Korea, but it must be like this. A nurse, in the walkway, said she could not come into my area, SO SHE , with one leg, SHOVED A PORTABLE TOILET IN SO I COULD REACH AND EXPECTED ME TO PEE WITH THE DOOR WIDE, WIDE OPEN IN FRONT OF A 70 year old man. This just one horrendous part of yesterday. Finally, I got up and left, after ten, and I stress, TEN hours. Nobody cared.
Negative experience: This place is the worst ever kept trying to ask the people at the front desk at the Er about trying to see what was going on with my husband and they said once that they see that he was in a regular room they will let me know and the nurse was not even keeping track for me all that they were doing was chatting not even doing their job at all. Do not come here service sucks.and even on the hospital room floors called for the nurse button for my husband and didn't even come to him when he had to use the restroom it's like they hate their job will never never come back here
Positive experience: Relative was refered by local urgent care for "potentially life threatening situation". Took vitals, put into intake and ignored. Never examined by anyone. No tests done. After 3 hours was discharged to home. Nothing was ever explained to patient. Second visit was different. Long wait but eventually was admitted. Tests done disclosed potentially spinal problem. Emergency surgery prevented possible paralysis. Neurosurgeons were great.
Negative experience: I was scheduled for an Spiral Push Enteroscopy yesterday September 12. I have documentation from several sources but oddly after getting undressed and prepped I was told that I was not on the schedule. And I was sent home. I am still sick. With no hope. Extremely disappointed in Hartford Hospital. You let me down big time. I will inform everyone I know about my horrendous and unprofessional experience. Thank you for nothing.
Negative experience: Tahelia,Ebony, Antonia could not have done less. When on the hospital bed phone with my dying grandfather he was asking if he could be brought water, Antonia very quickly responded with no and did not even let him respond. Just hung up the phone. These women might be more fit working at a Wendy’s, because I don’t see how their care/compassion for humanity would qualify them for anything else than overseeing raw hamburger meat. Certainly should not be working with people suffering from life threatening illness.
Negative experience: Hartford Hospital and Grey building! Horrible Hospital! All staff are people who dont do their job and dont care about you! They dont know what they are doing! This hospital killed my father. Staff gave him the wrong dose of medicine and killed him! I was with my father when i witnessed the lack of attention he had! A doctor even laughed at my father for complaining about his pain! If you love your family member please please try to avoid coming here we would if we had the choice but since my fathers kidney doctors were there he had to go to the hartford hospital! Ever since my father died i have not stepped one foot in that hospital! Hope they close this hospital down! Its soo dirty and nasty in there their negligence needs stop!
